I hear ya Hobbs. I DVRed THX1138 about a year ago, and wow, I hated that movie. I only made it through by watching roughly 1/2 to 3/4 of the movie on 60x speed.
The Batman series and movie basically DID have action figures. The Mego line of superhero action figures included all the characters from the Batman movie, and in the same costumes. The only exception would be Catwoman, whose costume reflected the comic book version rather than the drool inducing one from the silver screen. Their version of the Batmobile was also based on the tv series.
Hobbs, I'm totally with you there on THX-1138. Whenever I can't fall asleep, I just put in either my copy of THX-1138 or Star Trek: The Motion Picture. They put me out in no time.
2001 needs the Discovery, Frank and Dave and The Monolith and 2010 Heywood Floyd (Roy Scheider) John Lithgow plus Helen Mirren and the Russians and Hal and Star Child Dave and dying Dave Bowman.

All right there are some Dave Bowman 2001 figures (they were at Comic Con last year). The Batman figures (1966) were over 4 decades ago and not really figures or premium collectibles. There are a few Rocketeer figures on Sideshow. Believe me I checked and they are awesome. ~ Robert
I own thye Sideshow Collectibles 1/4 scale premium format figures of both Doc Holliday and Wyatt Earp. Well, they're not really "action figures" since they're not poseable but they are better IMO
The District 9 thing has me a little puzzled. The movie is ripe for collectibles.
Yeah, I'd call the Mego toys dolls instead of action figures. (Size matters, right?) :) I actually had some of them back in the day.
And I admire Bill Waterson's stance on merchandising, but I would love me some Calvin & Hobbes figures. I would display them at work beside my Wallace & Gromit ones.
OK, just checked out both lists. Not too bad, but I'd never want some of these. The Batman series are an absolute must. (How is it they have never made any of those? Licensing issues?)
The one I would add to the list would be the Rocketeer. He just looks like he would be a cool character. I'm not a big action figure guy, so apologies if they already have those out there somewhere. Throw in the blimp as a figure carrying case/playset. :)
