GI Joe Retaliation Delayed (Article) - 5/24/2012 2:25:54 PM

apparently paramount just feels like they need a big flop and an extra $10million for hacked 3d mixed with a 1yr release delay should do the job.

that's a shame. I enjoyed the camp of the first flick and was interested in seeing this one.

Carano in Fast & Furious 6 (Article) - 4/24/2012 4:17:26 PM

as long as they keep in the direction of the last movie where it was a heist flick w/ cars rather than a car flick w/ a heist then I'm all good w/ the series continuing

Flop or Not? (Article) - 3/19/2012 4:39:18 PM

@Wiseguy The idea I posted is a very off the cuff comment with a hint of sarcasm against how ridiculous the new "flop or not" system works. Though I do believe in the foundation I'm not saying it couldn't use a bit of tweaking. Actually it would be a lot better if studios just quit worrying about opening weekend and went back to longevity.

Now for the tangent: I honestly do believe that the best critic for a person is themself but the problem is the only real user powered movie site out there right now is IMDB and that place is a joke. Movies are often rated by people who haven't seen the movie or simply score based on what the current score already is - i.e. if a movie is scoring low or high then it's very common for people to jump in and score the exact polar opposite in hopes of creating a score closer to what they think the movie should be which then creates a completely bogus score. This skewed score will last for about a year until it goes through the rental crowd and simmer down to something more realistic. That's the only reason why I referenced critics rather than users because of how whacked out the general scoring of IMDB is.

Now if the scoring system included both user and critic input that would be great but at the same time there needs to be a way to keep it a bit less trolled.

Flop or Not? (Article) - 3/19/2012 3:22:06 PM

Anyone remember the good ol days of about 20 or so years ago when a movie was considered a flop if during its ENTIRE run in theaters it didn’t  make a significant profit? When most movies weren't really raking it in the opening weekend but instead worked on a slow boil that eventually made it the flick that everyone wanted to see weeks after it hit the theater?

Nowadays, sadly it's all about the marketing and what they can do in the opening weekend so it's no longer about making a good movie but instead making a bunch of really great trailers and massive amounts of hype mixed with product endorsements.

I'm annoyed with the current state of Hollywood filmmaking and I'm even more annoyed with how the general public has bought into the hype. Rather than call movies flops I think we should refocus our attention at how many suckers see a bad movie opening weekend. You want to know how to see the sucker report? Pull up something like RottenTomatoes, see what the freshness rating is and compare it to where it sits on the top 10 of the weekend, lowest score with the highest gross WINS!

WB Halts AKIRA (Article) - 1/6/2012 5:13:48 PM

All the leaked info about the movie just kept on make the adaption go from bad to worse in the idea dept. Here's the hoping that the halt is simply the good decision to start from ground zero and get it right

EVIL DEAD Remake Confirmed (Article) - 7/14/2011 12:01:40 PM

@jedibanner i'm not really seeing how the original is destroyed if they aren't editing it like lucas did to star wars and then burning the original print. in other words - the original isn't being touched, they're just making another movie.

More Captain America Set Photos (Article) - 4/25/2011 2:22:14 PM

when you're shelling out your cash at the box office, don't forget, this wasn't filmed in 3D so don't waste the extra $3-$5 to see it that way.
