This actually sounds pretty interesteing. Not familiar with the book, so I'll be looking forward to hearing more about it.

Dimension Films has announced that they've acquired the rights to the vampire thriller called Garden District. It was penned by Anthony Jaswinski (Vanishing on 7th Street) and Luke Goltz (You and I). The film will be produced by David Kirschner and Corey Sienega. Overseeing for Dimension Films are SVP of Production and Creative Affairs, Matthew Signer and VP of Production and Development, Keith Levine.
“This film reminds me of the early days of Dimension,” said Bob Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Company. “We look forward to making 'Garden District' as terrifying in theaters as it is on the page.”
Plot Concept: The story centers on a trio of young, ambitious myth-debunkers head to New Orleans after a mysterious video of a vampire’s execution goes viral to find out if the video was real or fake. They soon find themselves up against dark forces and in over their heads.

I wasn't a fan of Vanishing on 7th Street and I'm weary of the vampire genre (I think writers only know of two monsters...vampires and zombies.) And, vampires in New Orleans....hmmmm...why is it always NO? It sounds like it could be a POV film. But, who knows, Weinstien is the P. T. Barnum of movies. Mermaid anyone?
You had me at vampire - as long as they don't sparkle
