Comicscape: Dan Didio’s Countdown to Internet Crisis - Jun 26, 2008 - 03:22pm
There's a lot of ruthless marketing involved in comics nowadays but I gotta admit that marvel's dedication to good writing has led to some very good books... Sure, we can complain about the inconsistent arrivals of Thunderbolts, Astonishing X-Men, Runaways, and Thor (all of which are great books btw - Ellis & Deodato's rendition of Moonstone's fight against Doc Sampson and Songbird's vs Goblin were freakin' AWESOME!!), but what about the consistently awesome books: Daredevil (holy shit, could this be the longest ever run of great writing from its start to its current running?) Capt America (Ed is a writing genius) Iron Fist Nova Guardians of the Galaxy/Annihilation Iron Man (original, the last Mandarin story was great!) recent Uncanny X-Men (thanks again Ed) Ultimate Spider-man and ultimate FF4 X-Force (great stuff so far) Wolverine (this old man Logan storyline looks like it's gonna rock) Ms Marvel... yep, i like this book a lot Millar's FF4 Avenger's Initiative Punisher War Journal - love the current arc marvel 1985 Kick Ass Secret invasion - So far i'm totally enthralled that's a pretty damn good list of quality books Sure, I have my complaints: BND sucks... nothing good about it, and pissing off JMS for profits is not a good idea. New Warriors should be a lot better than it is. So far it sucks. The new direction of the Hulk blows. Anything Power Pack... bleh. But, wow... the above listed books are siphoning my money and I'm happier for it. Go Marvel!

First Trailer for Anderson's DEATH RACE - Jun 13, 2008 - 09:54pm
Looks like that old Playstation 2 game that kicked ass about 8 years ago that took place all over the world... the 2nd in the franchise was excellent but then it went downhill from there... anyway, this looks worth a matinee. I'll see it for Stratham and Ian McShane (he made Deadwood while it was still on the air - a shame he isn't in anything current full time...).

Secret Invasion: Implications and Musings - Apr 09, 2008 - 03:32pm
I'm actually enjoying Secret Invasion but yeah, I agree, if it's nothing but an excuse to retcon the fuck outta the marvel universe then well... shit. But, the comment i wanted to make most of all is one concerning Kurt's and Ben's comments about best current Marvel comic. Nova and Punisher over Iron Fist? Yeeesh. Matt Fraction and Brubaker's work on Iron Fist is amazing! And, just for the helluva it thought I'd make a Top 10 Best Marvel comic reads currently. 1. Iron Fist 2. Captain America 3. Punisher: War Journal 4. Daredevil (Has there ever been a more consistently good book over a span of 100 issues in comic book history? Serious, can anyone answer me this question? Holy Hell... maybe X-Men 125-225? - nah, DD gets my vote) 5. Punisher 6. X-Factor - Peter David's work on this series kicks ass 7. X-Force - i know it's only 2 issues in but it's damn good 8. Iron Man - maybe it's the gritty artwork and storytelling but as much as i hate stark I've loved this storyline w/the Mandarin lately 9. (tie) Ultimate Spider-Man/Ultimate Fantastic Four - still BMB best work and Carey's too for that matter 10. Anything Annihilation - i still miss that writer/artist combo who combined to create that Groot, Rocket Raccoon, Mantis, Capt Universe, Peter Quill team-up 11. Thunderbolts - Sorry, yeah, i cheated and added a #11 but i couldn't leave off this title - it's how a team book should be written
