"I've seen things..." - Dec 18, 2007 - 11:44am
Okay, let's just settle this part. The book and movie are two different things. In the book he was not a replicant. In the "original" film verision it was left very vauge. I'm not sure how Sean Young should chime in, because Harrison Ford is on record as saying they filmed it as Deckard not being a replicant. Personally, I prefer vauge, but because I believe the director saw an opportunity to cash in...several versions have now been updated that imply that he is a replicant. So, Ridley says he is, Ford said he wasn't...Ridley updates to win the argument. Now, I just want to know something...why would it make sense for Deckard to actually be a replicant? I do seem to recall quite well he didn't have any special functions, strength, etc. I personally liked the idea of a human falling in love with the replicant and learning the error of his ways. BTW, whatever happened to letting kids "think on their own"? I'd let my senior class develop their own therories on the subject. At least make them read the original source material too.
Colm Feore Appointed 'First Man' in 24 - Aug 24, 2007 - 04:46pm
No CTU? Great! I think that place was compromised about a dozen times. How many moles did they have working in that agency? Plus, it was growing stale.
Surprised that Surnow is a die hard. I mean, if you look at the show, the Presdients who have been portrayed in the better light have been Democrat. Convservative Democrats mind you. Gotta love their stance on terrorism. Too bad the most convservative in our government don't take the same stand.
Colm Feore Appointed 'First Man' in 24 - Aug 24, 2007 - 12:28pm
S@#*! I was hoping they would completely leave the President out of this one. Now we are going to get that crappy soap opera stuff from last season. Enough...how much more can happen in the White House? After the first Palmer and then the evil Gerorge, um, I mean the George clone (who seemed to turn into a bearded Al Gore after he lost the election look) they should have left well enough alone. I just wanted something different...without CTU and the White House. Well, let's keep our fingers crossed. Now we get the Hillary clone (wouldn't it be interesting if she was a Republican this time...I'm not buying that the producer is a Righty.) Sigh, Jack takes the back...seat.
BTW, there is NO story yet. They are just stunt casting. Hoping that will do the trick. They never had the story written before and the last we heard, their African idea was nixed. They obviously, and this was very, very evident last season, make it up as they go along.
Stephen Sommers Back on G.I JOE - Aug 24, 2007 - 12:21pm
Plot isn't the important thing? LOL Well, what did you expect from a GI Joe movie? Who will not laugh when they chant "Go Joe!" LOL I think Sommers is perfect for this silly cartoon/commercial feature. It is going to be cheese, so just kick back and smell the chedder. At least, I hope that is what that smell is.
BTW, I think he has made some pretty fun flicks...well, all the way up until Mummy 2. But, I'll give him a chance. I wonder if he got the 10 mill he was asking for?
New HITMAN Trailer - Aug 24, 2007 - 12:18pm
Wow, could it really be? A video game to movie that is actually cool? Hey, Olyphant kicked ass in Deadwood...I know he can play tough. I'm glad they gave him the role over Statham. He is kind of just falling into a rut. Insert Statham in generic action flick. I wish he would venture out and play roles like he did in Snatch. Something without him punching, kicking and shooting. I think he has the talent to do more.
Director Alexander Updates PUNISHER 2 - Aug 23, 2007 - 09:44am
Hey, dude sounds like a lady. Actually, the other way around. Hey, I don't care who does it...make this a bad ass film please!
Anthony Michael Hall in DARK KNIGHT Revealed? - Aug 23, 2007 - 09:31am
madmanic999, that is easy, because the actor will only wear the mask for so long before he MUST show his face. To me, that is just irratating. I'd love to see a Spidey or Bats movie where they kept the mask on for, at the very least, half the movie. Main problem of a hero who wears a mask film.
But, I certainly see your ponit about the bad guy knowing the heroes idenity. Another question...why does the bad guy always die in these films? Let's see....Batman, Batman 2, Batman Forever, Batman and Robin, Spiderman, Spidey 2, Spidey 3 and Batman Begins...yep, villians all die.
Heh, funny...they didn't use FOX or maybe "BOX" for the jerky reporters news room. GCN....you never see CNN as the villian. Heh.
BTW, am I the only one who misses the wisecracking, smart ass Spiderman? He seems absent in all three films.
Anthony Michael Hall in DARK KNIGHT Revealed? - Aug 23, 2007 - 08:58am
Well, this explains the rumor about multiple people dressed as Batman in the movie. I'm sure the Joker has his hand in it. How else would you mix up the evidence. Plus, I imagine, we get to see Hall's character make a rather nasty exit in the hands of the crowm prince of crime.
BTW, when it comes to mutliple villians...I think Nolan did fine in the first film. If you count, he had Ra, the Scarecrow, Zzzzack (is hat right. really just a cameo.), and a mafia stooge. Not to mention all the other nuts running lose.
Reynolds Ready for FLASH in JLA Movie - Aug 22, 2007 - 04:51pm
Come on guys...the world of Nolan and Singer should NEVER meet. They are just too far from eachother in reality and range. Nolan wants to ground his in reality and Singer has some 70's Reeve's fetish. It just wouldn't work. I'm all for a balls to the wall JLA flick...one that captures the true spirit of the comics and isn't a directors interpretation. This could be one fun movie. I think Ryan would be perfect as Wally West. And, "yes", Wally has demonstrated many times in his title that the character has a sense of humor. He actually grew from a goof to a more serious Barry clone. No, take that back. Barry was always boring for the most part. And, we get a Green Lantern...very cool indeed. This is about two years off, so plenty of preproduction time and casting can be done.
Five Clips from Zombie's HALLOWEEN - Aug 22, 2007 - 04:47pm
We shall see...I can't wait to catch this late night on HBO. That is how excited I am.
Eva Mendes Ready for Miller's SPIRIT - Aug 22, 2007 - 04:45pm
I don't think acting skills are really required for this film. Nothing too deep. I mean, if he is staying true to the spirit of the, um, Spirit...they will be more stereotypes than anything else. I think they are being cast on their looks...which makes sense considering the material.
So, after a few flicks and years have passed her by...just think, we will get to see her bare all in Playboy. Isn't that the typical route for moderately talented (loosely using that term) actresses?
Update: Bay Back on TRANSFORMERS 2 - Aug 22, 2007 - 04:42pm
Um, like the reviews for the first one weren't "bleh". Me? I could care less. I'd rather see a Micronauts film.
Routh, Bale Out of JUSTICE LEAGUE - Aug 22, 2007 - 04:40pm
I say bring it on! There are multiple titles out there featuring various versions of the same character. I think I can wrap my mind around a different take on Supes and Bats and still enjoy the individual concepts. This type of movie has NEVER been done. I mean, we have the X men franchise....which was far from perfect. But, never a film with all top characters. I think two years is more than a enough time. Hardly rushed. If it takes longer than that, the people in charge need to get another job. I thnk this is the right idea. The worlds of Nolan and singer don't mesh. Let's have a world where they do work. Maybe...FINALLY...we can see Bats in something other than a rubber suit. Plus, Supes may actually be manly and cool. I'm up for it...not sure why everyone is whining and not being able to see the potential for some movie fun! Personally, I wouldnt' care if they made another Marvel film featuring Spidey and main heroes without Toby. Seriously, who cares? Think of the fun....but, typical of everyone to complain before the film is even out of the gate. Me? I'm going to be first in line with my bucket of popcorn.
Reynolds Ready for FLASH in JLA Movie - Aug 21, 2007 - 03:53pm
If you think he is only one note, you must have missed Smoking Guns. I think he would be perfect as a Wally West Flash. The guy is in great shape, he can be funny, but also quite serious. Hell, he was the only saving grace in Blade Trinity. I'd place my vote for the guy. Finally, a superhero with a personality.
Bale says 'No' to JLA Movie - Aug 21, 2007 - 03:51pm
Hey, you don't need "stars" for a JLA movie. Let's try getting actors who like like their comic counterparts and lose all the preconceptions set up in the current Batman and Supes films. There already is a Supes TV show and movies coexisting...I don't know why there couldn't be a JLA film along with Batman/Superman. Bring it on!
Anti-Religion Not in GOLDEN COMPASS - Aug 21, 2007 - 03:30pm
Excellent point.
As far as this movie...I think they are not worried about upsetting Catholics as much as trying to reach the broadest audience possible. And, since the film has yet to come out, and they third film, at this point, is nothing but speculation....I think we can wait and see if they "bastardize" the books. I should advise those with ruffled feathers....they will disapoint you. Just as they did for the legions of fans of Harry Potter or any random Stephen King adaptation. The movies are always of a different breed.
Bale says 'No' to JLA Movie - Aug 21, 2007 - 03:25pm
Bah, treading on toes. Again, simply recast the main leads and give us a world not connected to rubber suits and effeminate Supermen. Just a cool JLA movie. Why does everyone think the three worlds must join?
Anti-Religion Not in GOLDEN COMPASS - Aug 21, 2007 - 02:43pm
agentcooper, if you carefully reread the posts you will realize that most comments aren't anti atheist/augnostic. It is the very opposite. People seem to resent Christian themes in their films, but are fine with anything that supports antisentiment. Which is fine. Their choice. But, a lot of opinions seem to stem from ignorance for that which they speak. Or, maybe just a bad experience.
I certainly don't fault your apologizing on behalf of all Christians, but I think people as a whole need to take a look inwards at their tolerance and acceptance of others beliefs. As far as a film, or book...if you don't like the views presented don't read or watch them.
BTW, everyone should make an important distinction. The Catholic church doesn't represent all Christianity. On that note, not all preist are sex offenders and Christians are not all out to gobble up your souls. Talk about tolerance.
Martinez Finds Love in DEATH RACE Remake - Aug 21, 2007 - 02:25pm
Only one way for this film to work. It must be brutal and it must be unpolitically correct. Something that they will never do. That was left in the 70's.
Garofalo Investigates on 24 - Aug 21, 2007 - 12:57pm
I don't know what "righties" are being referred, but if I based my opinion on every actor who had a skewed political view, I'd never watch another program or movie again. FYI, Willis has said several times now that he is a moderate. Time to update. The difference though...the guy has talent. That said, my comments were originally directed at her acting. The fact that she is a whack job has nothing to do with it. That part is just annoying. I don't know if I'd say she was a "thinker". That is a bit of a stretch. Unless it is because she mirrors your political views. She, along with many of Hollywood, have been expressing their views on the war for some time....reminds me of that film with the puppets.
Garofalo Investigates on 24 - Aug 21, 2007 - 12:47pm
If they use CTU, the teen, and the President/staff once again...the show will be officially over. They need something fresh. Do they even acknowledge the fans that have kept the show alive? I mean, it seems for the last two seasons, everyone has said "just give us Jack". Have him dealing with a much more personal crisis. Perhaps, some of the open ended plot lines come home to roost and he is struggling to stay alive. Skip the terrorists and the bombs. Give us a good, solid Jack story. Last year was just barely a step away from being a daytime soap.
BTW, is it just me, or do you get the impression that Gorofao smells of hemp cigerettes and stinky sandled feet? Has she ever officially come out of the closet? Doesn't matter as long as the series gets back to what made it great in the first place. Well, even during its great moments, they could have lost Kim.
Koontz's FRANKENSTEIN Getting Adapted - Aug 21, 2007 - 12:44pm
Not sure what caused the "creative differences" riff, but I thought the pilot showed promise. Plus, it had a pretty good line up of actors. Funny to me that Koontz, whose novels have been adapted several times whould show issues with this series. I can say, his adaptations have been worse than the novels themselves. Don't get me wrong, Koontz is fine in the "bubble gum for the brain" sort of way.
Anti-Religion Not in GOLDEN COMPASS - Aug 21, 2007 - 10:58am
Hmmm...well, read the book instead of judging his work on a movie BASED on his writing. Then you can have an informed opinion about Lewis' work. Which, as far as children's literature, was brilliant.
THE 4400: One of Us - Aug 21, 2007 - 10:30am
This looks like an interesting show, but it is so involved, I'd have to go back and rent all the past DVDs. Is it worth it?
Garofalo Investigates on 24 - Aug 21, 2007 - 09:40am
Someone in Hollywood take note...please quit giving this lady jobs. She is not funny, nor is she entertaining to watch. Her butch persona grew old after the last job Stiller gave her. Enough. Let her go save the ozone, seals or take a stand against shaving her legs.
Update on Warner Bros' JLA Movie - Aug 20, 2007 - 08:30am
Um, here is an idea...get different actors to play the part of Supes and Bats. Then they can make whatever film they want in the right tone. I think the current Bats and Supes seem to be in totally different worlds. One of reality vs. cheese.
Katie Holmes as WONDER WOMAN? - Aug 19, 2007 - 08:57pm
That said...maybe she could replace Rose in Barbarella.
Wonder Woman? Yaaaaaaawn. Unless, of course, it is set in the 40's during WW2. That might be fun.
Rose McGowan Strapping Leather in BARBARELLA? - Aug 19, 2007 - 08:56pm
So, will Barbarella only have one leg and a bad case of the crabs? Wow, awsome....my anticipation for this wacky remake just shot out the roof. And, here I was hoping his next project was Spy Kids 4.
Tom Savini Surfs in LOST BOYS 2 - Aug 19, 2007 - 08:54pm
And, shortly after this news, the four horsemen of the apocolypse were spotted.
First Look at BOND 22 - Aug 18, 2007 - 07:01pm
Are you certain? As far as any of my books...there hasn't been a rated R Bond. It is listed on IMDB as rated PG 13. Which is what I recall it being when it was released. Nothing in the film warranted an R rating. Where did you get the info? I think the outting did poorly because people didn't take to TD as Bond and the more obvious and simple truth...the film just was not that good.
WHO WANTS TO BE A SUPER HERO?: Disguise - Aug 18, 2007 - 05:48pm
Wow, attack a genius and father to modern comics. Um, I'm afraid he DID create many of today's recognized Marvel characters. And, I've read more than once where he has accredited greats like Kirby for their contributions. Tell me one other writer who has contributed more to modern comics than Lee and is recoginzied in the mainstream world as the ambassador for the medium itself? That's right. None. Who cares if his "style" is dated. Pick up some of the past and rediscover just how important that work was.
I really don't read the "cape and underwear" books that much anymore. But, I do know that there are several examples of "heroes without an edge". Depending on what one wants out of their book. I'm sure the majority are brooding, depressed, narcasitic heroes. Wait a sec...so were Peter Parker and the Hulk. Go figure. Lee also invented the "dark hero". He just called it the regular guy who happens to have super powers.
I can't speak about his Striperella cartoon. I mean, I assume he was pandering to fanboys who live in basements and seem to like their heroines with big jugs. I might be mistaken about the basement part.
But, back to the actual show...it is SUPPOSED to be silly and corny. As would the very existance of a guy who wears a cape/underwear and walks around, begging for attention as he demonstrates his laser beam eyes. I'm curious what "edge" you would want a family friendly show to display? Maybe the guy can murder and mame and swear as he dances around in his cape/underwear. Personally, I can overlook the ad placements in a low budget reality show about wanna be superheroes. After all, every reality show has ad placements. At least, this one tried to be a bit more clever and involved in the actual events.
Speaking of basements, several of the contestants might fit that bill. An F rating though is really unwarranted. I'd say it deserved more of a C.
First Look at BOND 22 - Aug 18, 2007 - 03:02pm
I know a lot of people become very passionate in Bond debates, but the truth is, book Bond and movie Bond are complete different entities. He has evolved into something different in the movies....even the lastest incarnation. Bond, while being somewhat suave in the books, was nothing on the level of the movie version. The gadgets, the cars (for the most part) and the girls are all products of the movies. It is something the audience expects on a certain level. I can understand that our perceptions are that Bond should be better looking, more sophisticated, etc. But, Craig has the next movie to show that he can grow with the character and not just continue to play him thuggishly. I sure he will up the charm factor. That said, I believe the guy only wants to commit to one more Bond film after this and then we get the huge "who is going to replace him". I'm sure Clive Owen would be a canidate, but he might be getting too long in the tooth to be in the role. Of course, DC is always likely to change his mind if he keeps producing films like the Invasion. He might keep doing the role for leverage...that is, if he remains popular. I believe TD first outing did well. The follow up...not so much. I mean, it made money, but not on the level of PB's venture into the role. BTW, DAD was supposed to be a homage to the past. Which is why it was so "over the top". Same writers, I might add, as CR.
POLTERGEIST'S 25th Anniversary on Oct 9 - Aug 18, 2007 - 02:42pm
I can say, I probably didn't comment in the "roundup", but I found it invaluable in my DVD selection process. I watched several films that were recommended on your site. Some, I would have otherwise overlooked. I agree...get it back up and running.
Johansson Set for Miller's SPIRIT - Aug 18, 2007 - 01:18pm
Actually, a lot of people liked Match Point. It was a hit for WA. I thought it was a very interesting film. But, film is subjective. Now Scoop on the other hand...well, it shows that WA can produce a decent film and then follow it up with complete garbage. My theory...he should stay out of his films. His routine grew stale in the 80's. To comment on "Scarlett should do porn"...not a bad idea. I feel that is about her range as an actress.
HAROLD & KUMAR 2 Trailer - Aug 18, 2007 - 01:14pm
Wow, I didn't realize there was actually still and audience for this film. I guess I was wrong. I thought the first was subpar and I'm surprised that films deserving direct to video release get this kind of attention. Go figure.
First Look at BOND 22 - Aug 18, 2007 - 12:30pm
You know, I've done a little research and every single new Bond has been described as "the best Bond since Connery." Every single one. Now, that said, I agree every actor has brought something different to the role. I'd prefer, instead of comparisons, to simply describe each as a worthy addition of the legacy. I think it is juvenille to hate on one actor to make another stand out as a posters favorite. Craig is fine. I'm glad they are going with a more realistic approach. I'd preferred Clive Owen, but that is neither here or there.
WHO WANTS TO BE A SUPER HERO?: Disguise - Aug 18, 2007 - 10:00am
Oh, I'm not going to attack a man who has given us so very much to be thankful in the world of comics. I also think you are being way too hard on a series that doesn't really take itself all tha seriously. It is just fun and I'm happy that the people seem less self absorbed than a typical episode of Big Brother. With characters like Hygenia, it is all tounge in cheek. I think it is time, as modern readers, to step back and realize that we don't have to take the entire medium seriously. Give me the fun...and this series delivers that aspect. It is cheese to the highest degree and I'm glad they haven't gone "dark" and accepted that a buch of grown ups dressed in comstumes is just silly.
Another Production Delay for 24 - Aug 17, 2007 - 01:35pm
I don't know how it would have worked, but it would definitely be different. I assume that since ER was able to do a season with characters in a believable African set...certainly 24 could do it. I know when I was in Hawaii, I took a movie tour and MANY films are shot there as a replacement for Africa. But, I'm not dying to just see this plot fullfilled, just not sure why it would be deamed so expensive. Gosh, shows like Star Trek used the Grand Canyon as a completely different planet.
Rated R Clips of SHOOT 'EM UP Online - Aug 17, 2007 - 12:50pm
I think this is the movie that Smokin Aces wanted to be. Giamatti feeling up a dead girl....bring it on. This sounds like fun. I believe the director described it as John Woo's wet dream. Good enough.
Live Action DOCTOR STRANGE On the Way? - Aug 17, 2007 - 12:45pm
A great character to adapt. Stick to the twisted early years and it could be one of the best. Certainly a nice "horror" replacement since Blade left the building.
Another Production Delay for 24 - Aug 17, 2007 - 12:41pm
I agree, the producers seem to be on the mark by requiring the entire season to be mapped out. That has been a flaw since season one. At some point, they begin to meander and lose track. Which might explain some of the never ending Kim plotlines. I know it has effected the last two seasons. I hope they not only get on track, but they give this series a face lift. I'd be happy if they completely left out a majority of the supporting characters and focused on Jack. That includes CTU and the Presidental cabinet. Make it more personal and gritty. I don't care to see the soap opera of the Presidency.
Um, as far as shooting in Africa? Why? Can't they shoot on a lot, or Hawaii and just say Jack is in Africa? The same as a dozen movies and TV shows have done? I'm not certain why they needed to actually GO to Africa.
Johansson Set for Miller's SPIRIT - Aug 17, 2007 - 12:35pm
Well, she did have a rather infamous liason with an actor on an elevator. I believe it was Adrian Brody. She has also been linked with Del Toro. So, I don't know about a party whore, but she definitely has poor taste in men. That said, I've enjoyed most of her work. I'd say that Match Point was her best...I would NEVER say Scoop. That was one of the worse films I've ever seen and she embarrassed herself in the role. Terrible acting in that movie all around. I would say she is sexy, but doesn't come across as very bright. Part of her allure I suppose. In a part like the Spirit...I'm sure she will fit right in.
SCORPION KING Details Emerge - Aug 16, 2007 - 08:08am
I completely agree manic...the original was pure cheese and camp. The Rock was the only reason anyone even saw the film. Why bother making a new version without him?
Abe Finds Love in HELLBOY 2 - Aug 15, 2007 - 06:57pm
Man, I dug Pierce in the movie as the voice of Abe. Not so much Doug's same treatment in the cartoon. I just think Pierce has more range as a voice actor.
Characters To Expect in PUNISHER 2? - Aug 15, 2007 - 06:51pm
Nothing against Jane, but I felt he was too much of a pretty boy to be Frank Castle. That and he simply lacked the attitude. Now, Stevenson could really rock in this role. : )
ISLE OF THE DEAD Remake On The Way - Aug 15, 2007 - 07:59am
Weaker yes...but, it had such potential. And, I hope it is realized this time out. I imagine they will be facing "hordes" of demons, vampires or the living dead. That is the trend today.
Raimi to Direct HOBBIT, Jackson to Produce? - Aug 15, 2007 - 07:55am
Bring it on..Raimi is the man! I'd LOVE to see Bruce get a role. And, for those doubters....with Peter attached as producer, you probably will get Ian back as Gandolph. The Hobbit is a much lighter tale than LOTR and I think Raimi has the right style.
Kevin McKidd As The New THOR? - Aug 15, 2007 - 07:50am
GREAT CHOICE. The guy has acting chops and has brooding down to an art. I think he would be a great actor for the role. As far as "bulking up"...if Will Smith and Ed Norton can do it...so can this guy. And, I might add, he is in pretty good shape as it is. And, "yes", they will go for a more realistic approach. This is one franchise that needs it. Otherwise it will be laughably silly.
Stephen Sommers Not Up For GI JOE - Aug 15, 2007 - 07:47am
Um, why would he ask for so much? Because Mummy and Mummy 2 were big hits. Come on, actors ask for 10 million all the time and these type of cotton candy films seem to rake in their share of the dough. And, because this is a kids franchise and I, for one, think this would be right up his alley. You guys take your cartoons waaaaay too seriously.
DARK KNIGHT Footage at Wizard World Con - Aug 13, 2007 - 01:30pm
I think you should note that I would want a GOOD superhero film. We have had more than plenty "realist" comic heroes...I'd like to see a WELL DONE comic with the attributes I listed. Corman be damned. Hey, you like Batman in a rubber suit...this should be your, what, sixth fill of it? How about Spidey...who didn't he reveal himself too? Half of New York. Apparantly, actors don't want to be in a film where their face is partially or fully covered for most of the film. I guess it brings a new term to "acting your way out of a paper bag." I liked V for Vendetta and the mask was NEVER removed. So, it can be done. Now, that said...how many films that aren't crap have attempted the "true to the source material...costumes and all" so far? All we get are others interpretations.
FREDDY VS JASON VS ASH Hitting Comics Soon - Aug 13, 2007 - 01:21pm
Of course Ash will win...he is freakin ASH! Now, that said, glad the film didn't pan out. I'd much rather see an official Evil Dead sequel. Just deadites, no Jason or Freddy.
First Look at Burton's SWEENEY TODD - Aug 12, 2007 - 04:15pm
Well, Burton is hit or miss for me. I always have hope and sometimes he can deliver...and sometimes he gives us Planet of the Apes. He seems to do better with this gothic type of material...besides it gives his girlfriend an acting job. Besides, a dark musical...something unique to the screen.
Frog Brothers, Both Coreys in LOST BOYS 2 - Aug 12, 2007 - 04:10pm
Hey, I'm one who wouldn't watch 2 Corey's if your threatened me with violence. The same with Lost Boys 2. However, I can't fault the guys for trying to reinvigorate their career. The boys have got to eat...I assume they blew (literally through the nose) their childhood acting savings.
Stephen Sommers to Direct G.I JOE? - Aug 12, 2007 - 04:07pm
Why not Sommers? It is a children's cartoon after all...made for preteen boys. Seems to me it is what the guy excells at. Enough about "raping your childhood". I'm even surprised people above the age of 20 would be interested...but, I said the same about the Transformers. Skip "relevance"...it is GI Joe.
DARK KNIGHT Footage at Wizard World Con - Aug 12, 2007 - 04:05pm
Well, personally, although I liked BB, I would love for them to completely ditch the Burton rubber suit. Also, why recast Rachel...it is distracting...just make her a new character. Better yet, why even have a love interest in each film? They are going an interesting direction with the Joker. I hope it works...I wasn't a fan of the pic released on the net a few weeks back. But, I guess I'm more of a purist and would like to actually see a Batman movie and not some realist, Burton spawned interpretation. For that matter...wouldn't it be cool if they, just once, produced a superhero movie where the hero didn't always remove his mask, spent more than 15 minutes in the film wearing their costume, and actually stayed VERY true to the source material? Just once...I'd like to see how it worked out. Yeah, give me the X men in full costume not bondage gear.
Pictures of Romero's DIARY OF THE DEAD - Aug 10, 2007 - 12:33pm
It may not be Blair Witch, but you can excuse the confusion..kids in woods making film. Also, it seems more like he is milking his own work. Hope he does better than he did with his last zombie project. I don't think he can blame this one on the budget and studio. The one thing that confuses me...it says in the article "part of his dead franchise", but I believe Romero has said it is not part of that world. Which is it?
Four More Show DEFIANCE with Craig - Aug 09, 2007 - 10:00am
Hey, a WWII piece with a great cast. Nice change of pace from giant robots, Japanese ghosts and super hero flicks. Not that there is anything wrong with that...it is just nice to see a film like this get made.
PINK PANTHER 2 Is a Go - Aug 09, 2007 - 08:21am
Steve Martin is such a talented guy. Why waste his time on this crap? He is brilliant as was Sellers. His version really doesn't do either justice. Just let it rest and find a more suitable project. I'd rather see the Jerk 2.
First Look at 30 DAYS OF NIGHT: BLOOD TRAILS - Aug 08, 2007 - 08:51pm
Yahoo...a good ol' fashioned monster flick. I can't wait until the film. I never read the graphic novel but if this is a preview, it looks like fun.
Checkov is Cast for STAR TREK XI - Aug 08, 2007 - 09:57am
Um, okay, so everyone knew eachother in space camp and just happened to be put together for that famous mission? This is ridiculas. Personally, if they wanted to make a "kids in space" version of ST, I simply wish they would have left the original cast alone. At the most, why not have Spock and Kirk training new recruits. Don't give us this teenage Smallville version. Not looking forward to this no matter who is the director.
Mike10, Khan knowing Chekov was simply a mistake on the writers part. Nothing more.
Next HIGHLANDER Direct to Tv - Aug 06, 2007 - 07:54pm
Oh, I don't know if anyone will be disapointed. After all, there has really only been ONE good Highlander movie...and that was the first one. The others were rubbish and made little sense. They didn't even bother trying to explain why nothing connected and why they continuously contridicted themselves and their mythology. Just really piss poor execution on each film from 2 on. Too bad, great concept.
Frank Miller Selects the SPIRIT - Aug 03, 2007 - 01:28pm
lincolnparadox, Dick Tracy wasn't stylish? I think that WAS the problem, it was all style and no substance. As far as the Spirit...bring it on. I'm really looking forward to this film. I've been a big fan of Eisner since I first started reading comics. I know Miller is a HUGE fan and I even liked his take on the character over recent years. I hope he has a great crew backing him up. The casting seems good for the lead. Not familair with the guys work, but he has the chin (although, when it comes to chins...no one can beat Bruce Campbell. When is he going to get a shot at playing a superhero?)
THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM - Aug 03, 2007 - 11:30am
So, is this the film where Bourne finally hits puberty? Just kidding, I like the films, even if I think the story is wearing thin. Damon just always looks like a kid to me.
Imperioli Snoops on LOVELY BONES - Aug 02, 2007 - 01:50pm
I can't say I'm a big fan of the casting on this film. Grosling seems strangley out of place in his role and Imperioli is so iconic as Christopher from Sopranos, it will distract from the film. I have to say, I felt Jackson's casting in LOTR was inspired, but his follow up King Kong and Lovely Bones leave something to be desired. It is like he purposely tries to miscast, but the trick no longer works for me. IMO, the miscasts of Jack Black and Adrian Brody in KK just never clicked (well, there were a lot of things I found wrong with that film from the juggling act to Kong ice skating like he was in a Coca Cola commercial to the simple fact that it was just too much and too long.) But, I digress. I’m glad to see he is doing a much smaller film, I just wish he would work on his casting choices. I know I might get some flack for expressing this concern because so many consider Jackson a cinema god. I like his work and I enjoyed the LOTR films. That said, I’m not overly disappointed that he may not be involved in The Hobbit. It is a much lighter tale and I’d really like to see someone like Raimi helm that project. Actually, I just want to see that project move forward. But, then again, I’ve always been a bigger fan of The Hobbit than the LOTR trilogy. Just a personal choice. And, it should be more accessable to the audience…both adults and children. Heh, all that rambling from a casting choice.
First Tv Spot of HALLOWEEN - Jul 31, 2007 - 12:11pm
Personally, I feel that they should leave the classics alone. Just move on. Come up with a new modern monster. I guess it is cheaper, but finacially and creatively, to just rehash the old stuff, but I'm very jaded towards all the reimaging. Soon we will have Jason remade to go along with Leatherface and Michael. Is Chucky next? Seriously, is there that much of a lack of creativity for people to create their own classics? All of these monsters came from the 70's and early 80's...a shame no one can do something new without reimaging. I'll be skipping this one and I hope they guy, who claims to be a big fan, can come up with something a little better in the future (I found 1,000 Corpses to not only be a retread of Chainsaw, but a major disapointment. If Zombie can't come up with his own ideas, maybe he could remake an oldie, such as, White Zombie...the film that inspired the name for his band.)
Comic Con: IRON MAN & HULK Videos - Jul 30, 2007 - 05:50pm
Wow, thanks for sharing the link to the Iron Man footage. That looks great. I got pumped watching him fly. Now I'm really excited by an Avengers movie. I wonder if they will do a Cap stand alone movie first, or introduce him to the present in the Avengers film? This will be one great summer!
Surely you jest...I'm not seeing Ed Norton in the Hulk. I'm seeing the Hulk from the comics. From the pug nose to the large scowel and ape like face. This looks like the Hulk I grew up with...scratching my head where you are seeing Norton.
A DESCENT 2 On the Way? - Jul 30, 2007 - 03:55pm
SPOILER
How did the UK version end? The US had her crazy as a loon tallking to her dead child still underground.
I personally thought it was decent, but not worthy of a sequel. I'm afraid, box office wise, it might go the way of Hostel 2. It would be a pointless follow up. Just go with something new and keep it exciting.
Never mind...just read the complete thread. I don't know, I think they should have taken her madness even further. Making the creatrues all a figment of her imagination and putting her as the killer of her friends.
More Nights at the MUSEUM - Jul 30, 2007 - 03:37pm
I like Reno 911. That said, I thought NATM was bore. And, I caught it for free on an international flight. It was perfect to make me fall asleep. Such a disapointment considering the cast (the old timers) and the writers.
SPIDER-MAN 4 Needs a Writer - Jul 30, 2007 - 03:33pm
I can't belive I haven't seen this film. I was there for part one and two on opening weekends. However, the lackluster reviews really took away from the enthusiasm I orignally had for this project. At this point, I guess I'll be seeing it on DVD. To be honest, I missed a lot of the blockbusters this summer. Just an excuse for me to upgrade my TV for the fall.
That said...I wouldn't mind a fourth installment. They could push Dunst character further in the background though. Maybe just focus more on Spidey. Make him more of the wise ass from the comics. But, I assume, if it didn't happen in the third film, they will go with the Paker/MJ marriage.
RESIDENT EVIL:EXTINCTION Trailer - Jul 30, 2007 - 10:30am
I too enjoyed the first movie. It was fun and, since I'd never played any of the video games, i didn't have a lot of baggage. I caught this one and part 2 on DVD. I thought 2 had potential, but it just wasn't realized. The ending of the first part seemed like we were in for some mass zombie, world ending battle...instead it was rather subdued. But, I can't say I won't rent this from Netflix.
Hilton Joining REPO Horror Musical - Jul 30, 2007 - 09:39am
Gosh, I was kind of hoping she would just fade into the background after her brush with the law.
Comic Con: IRON MAN & HULK Videos - Jul 30, 2007 - 09:36am
The Hulk looks fantastic. I'm glad they are going with the comic book look and not the face pull that they did for Eric Bana. I can't wait to see this presentation on screen. I'm not really worried about "what comic book movie will own whom", I'm just excited that we are going to get to see Iron Man, the Hulk and a good Batman movie all in the same summer!
Comic Con: INCREDIBLE HULK Highlights - Jul 29, 2007 - 09:44am
Ugh, I hate it when the reference the TV show as inspiration. I agree Madmanic, I hope the only inspiration that came from that program was the fugitive on the run. I'd rather them be inspired by the actual comic. And, I agree...someone should have asked..."is the Hulk going to speak?"
GREEN HORNET Not a Comedy - Jul 28, 2007 - 10:37pm
Hmmmm...admire his body of work? Says a lot. Personally, I think he is a funny guy. I've enjoyed most of his work so far. Obviously, I don't think he is right for a serious action comic book movie, but I hope he proves me wrong.
Now that I think about it...I think they really should make this a comedy. It would be hilarious to flash back to his great uncle the Lone Ranger...with Seth playing that part too. It would be funny to see him smoking peyote and playing the game "Tonto...do you know how I know your gay?"
GREEN HORNET Not a Comedy - Jul 28, 2007 - 04:54pm
Sony, you never cease to amaze me with your juvenille attacks on your fellow posters.
Gosh, I'm sorry the "I know you are gay" line from Seth's film was bellow you. Seriously, if you can't contribute, don't post insults. I belive it is the one thing that will get you banned from the site and it is not necessary nor is it productive. It just labels you as a troll.
BTW, you seem to have some serious issues with politics. You might want to seek some type of help for that...because it is inappropriate in this conversation (and all the other threads where you toss out your nonsense.) Seriously, Sony, grow up and then post.
GREEN HORNET Not a Comedy - Jul 28, 2007 - 02:37pm
Pigeonholing? Here is a rundown of Seth's next film Pinapple Express..."A stoner (Rogen) and his dealer (Franco) are forced to go on the run from the police after the pothead witnesses a cop commit a murder." We are not the ones pigeonholding him. I'd say, if he wants to be taken seriously in an action flick he might want to get on a training regimine. Personally, I think there are certain roles where an actor is appropriate. I don't see this as one. I wish him the best in this venture, I really do. It is the Green Hornet which is thankfully not a major character.
Damon Will NOT Be Kirk - Jul 28, 2007 - 11:34am
Makes sense...he would be too old for the part.
GREEN HORNET Not a Comedy - Jul 28, 2007 - 10:42am
As far as dope smokin slobs....I think he is brilliant. I love 40YOV and KU. He is a very funny guy. I don't know about comparing him to Hanks (btw, I thought Keaton sucked as Batman.)
You know how I know Seth is gay....he wants to play Green Hornet. That's pretty gay actually. : )
GREEN HORNET Not a Comedy - Jul 28, 2007 - 07:37am
Riiiiiiight. Okay, I believe I heard this once on MST3000..."writer, producer and star is not usually a good sign." I think he is early on in his career and should stick to what works. Follow those comedians that have gone before you...Ben Stiller for example. Don't try to branch out into genres where you are obviously out of place. Unless, of course, Green Hornet was a rich, dope smokin, fat slacker. In that case...he is perfect for the part.
Watch the INDY Comic Con Panel - Jul 28, 2007 - 07:34am
Hey, Marion still looks good. Glad she is in the new flick. And, Indy doesn't look bad with a slight beer gut. I like the way Ford has aged. Looks perfect for the part. You know, Shia might be Spielberg's new pet monkey, but I think he looks like he could be Indy's kid. I'm not a hater of this guy...I haven't even seen anything he has done outside of Saturday Night Live, so he works for me. Better than a Short Round. All in all....looks like a fun May 2008.
Comic Con: Spock Confirmations and Kirk - Jul 27, 2007 - 10:47am
Star Trek: the beginning....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Where is the tension? Why? You would think they would be able to come up with a better idea...take the fanchise forward...not back. We saw the Kirk and Spock stories.
SAW IV First Cut Gets NC-17 - Jul 27, 2007 - 10:43am
Ugh, quit paying to see these things or they will never stop!
BTW, you can skip the 8 movies to die for. Trust me, you will thank me. None of them were scarey, nor did they warrant the title. I'd say it would be best to lable them as "eight movies that would have never made it to the theatre and gathered dust on the DVD shelf if not for this gimmick."
PIRATES Hits Dvd Shelves Dec 4 - Jul 27, 2007 - 10:41am
I don't know if it is my memory, or just the forgettable nature of this film...but, I am fuzzy on much of it. However, I do recall all of the original POTC. I have to say, I was very disapointed in the two follow up films. Just TOO much. Am I the only one who would like to see a pirate movie without monsters?
Comic Con: Karen Allen Returns to INDY - Jul 27, 2007 - 10:17am
Beh, not sure why the Simpsons would warrant attention in this feedback. Personally, I'm less than thrilled by that project. Too little too late....dude.
However, Marian in the new Jones film...I like that idea a lot. I just hope she is not limited to a cameo role. What was great about her in Raiders is that she was Indy's "equal". She kept up and the tomboy persona was perfect. It always seemed out of balance in the other two films when he was swayed by a bimbo and a "pretty face". I think we all enjoyed the fact that Marion stood up to him. She, in many ways, was just as smart, or smarter than the sometimes falliable Jones. He had to work to keep up with her fiestiness. She held her own without the noted Temple of Doom pampered whining.
She was one tough broad in Raiders and DIDN'T take crap from anyone. What she lacked physically, she made up in attitude. The gal drank a monster of a man under the table, whacked Nazis, thumped henchmen, outsmarted Indy's nemesis and took a poke at Indy himself. Sounds pretty much like she "doesn't take any crap." What did you want? Some silly, over the top, martial arts expert ala Mummy Returns? She was a very realistic character. Well, except that she seemed to have the uncanny ability to sober up quickly.
BTW, Doug Jones didn't play Gollum. That would be Andy Serkis who was the man behind the skinny LOTR beastie.
Universal Switches HELLBOY 2 & MUMMY - Jul 27, 2007 - 08:37am
Yes, but this time the director is helming the project with an academy award under his belt. I'm sure they will play that up and the switch means they have confidence that this will indeed be a blockbuster.
Nelson Fights The INCREDIBLE HULK - Jul 26, 2007 - 05:09pm
I think this is a great idea. The Abomination would get a bit tedious as the only villian since he is mainly just there to slug it out with ol' jolly green. The Leader has been a favorite and I'm glad they seem to be moving closer to the source material.
Early Look at BEOWULF - Jul 25, 2007 - 01:26pm
I don't know...this is the third time this story has been done in the last few years. The most recent starred Gerard Butler. I'm not sure what they are really bringing to the table here outside of "sexy" and better special effects. I never really saw the story as sexual and the comment "sharp stilettos merged with bestial hooves" makes it sound a bit silly. Is Grendals Mom a stripper now? I can honestly say, no movie stars "tits" are going to make me see a film.
I do have to admire how they got Winstone to lose so much weight. The guy was out of shape in a major way. Hey, on a movie star diet, exercise and personal training program, I guess ANYONE can beef up and trim down. And everyone gave Tom Hanks such kudos for losing his flab...if this was a testimate to Winstons performance in the film...he would win an academy award hands (and donuts) down.
Adamson Talks PRINCE CASPIAN - Jul 23, 2007 - 04:55pm
My goodness it has taken awhile for this sequel. Aren't the kids all grown up now? : )
Stevenson is the new PUNISHER - Jul 23, 2007 - 02:19pm
Well, that is assuming Jane is correct about the script. Personally, I thought the last Punisher was dreadful. It was silly and Jane was just too pretty to be the Punisher. I'm glad that he decided to opt out (don't get me wrong, I like the guy, just not in this role.) I don't know if he is the best judge considering he agreed to that rotten script in the first one. I don't care a lick about Ray's age, I think this guy has an edge and looks rough to boot. This is a Punisher look.
CONNOR CHRONICLES' Scene to be Redone - Jul 23, 2007 - 02:17pm
Um, am I the only one who thinks this will probably not work as a series? If they even do bring in another Terminator, want that kill continuity in the movies? I have a feeling this is going to have a very short run.
Stanley Tucci in Jackson's BONES? - Jul 23, 2007 - 12:49pm
I've always enjoyed this guy in his supporting roles (except the dreadful and painful to watch The Devil Wears Prada). He definitely can play a weasel.
INCREDIBLE HULK Tearing Up Manhattan - Jul 23, 2007 - 11:31am
Mcdawg...too cerebal? Hardly. There are other ways to get your point across without insulting everyone else who disagrees. I found it simply lacking in any clarity towards the end and "yes" there was plenty of "Hulk smash". Unless, you are not couting that long battle with the army and the Hulk poodles. It just wasn't a very good film, IMO. I think Ed Norton is a much better choice over Bana for the character of Banner. He has proven to be one of our most versitile and talented actors. Plus, he has the look of "scrawny Banner". I actually think the Hulk didn't raise itself above any of the comic book films. It emphasized the comic panels, etc. I felt it tried to be more style over any real substance. I personally didn't find it all that cerebal or deep. The abusive father storyline was in the series since the 70's. The interal delima, etc...nothing that challenging. Just a boring and incoherant film.
Oxymandias Is Set for WATCHMEN - Jul 23, 2007 - 08:52am
Wow, Jackie from Bad News Bears is a lead in a film. Of course, his face is covered through most of the story. INteresting, I didn't even know the guy was still acting.
INCREDIBLE HULK Tearing Up Manhattan - Jul 23, 2007 - 08:49am
I really didn't like the first Hulk film. I'm hoping we see some major changes in his presentation. Also, it would be nice to actually get a film that lets him talk instead of just grunting and growling. I hope the computer tech. has improved so he doesn't look like a cartoon.
Stevenson is the new PUNISHER - Jul 22, 2007 - 10:08am
EXCELLENT choice! Now, I just hope the script is not as dreadful as Jane lead us to believe.
