One more time, since Shadow and Almost seem to be sincerely lost, here is some plainspeak about this column. This a series of related fictional stories which are based on a real person's life experiences. Have you somehow missed two of the most blockbuster cultural events of the last couple of decades - Holy Blood, Holy Grail and the DaVinci Code? This serialized adventure is based on these books and much much more. This website deals with cultural emphemera. These stories are a running commentary on a entire genre of fiction that has sprung up centered on these books.

Jedi, the Computer Misuse Act specifies several levels of offense. I have seen a copy of the police letter acknowledging that an official caution had been administered in this matter under section 1 of the Act. If you Google the Act, you can see that it is multi-leveled depending upon the severity and degree of the offense that the poliice are able to prove.

Dear Maniacs: Please consider the following: Everyone looking at this website is "into" mass media. Art in general, whether it is traditional in form (books, plays, paintings, etc.) or electronic (TV, movies, video games, etc.) is always about the difference between appearance and reality. You are immersed in this difference. Stella is only telling you that there is more than meets the eye in these cultural “events”. She is suggesting that you think about what is going on in the subtext of the mass media that you consume. Otherwise, you are simply being manipulated.

A little plainspeak for you concerning Stella’s messages: It is possible to divide mankind into several groups (more properly “groupings” or “sets” in the mathematical sense). 1) The majority. Those who eat, drink, reproduce, make merry or miserable as life dictates and generally spend their precious human existence living as essentially as they might have lived in a plant or animal body. 2) What I call the “Jones group” after Bob Dylan’s “You know there’s something happening here, but you don’t know what it is, do you Mr. Jones?” Those who suspect that reality is not always what it appears to be. 3) Those who believe that they have it all figured out and appoint themselves as “leaders” of one sort or another. 4) Those who believe that they REALLY have it figured out and manipulate the previous group from the behind the scenes. 5) Those who realize that all of the above is BS, and have various theories about a meta-reality above or behind the appearances of the world. 6) A very small (probably mythical?) group that truly does have it figured out and therefore says little or nothing because they realize that all is exactly as it’s supposed to be. Shadow, I'm sure that Stella is completely okay with a few Maniacs not getting her fiction series and that she is quite happy to continue writing to her extremely niche market of over 40 million people who bought The Da Vinci Code. Daforce, you are to be congratulated for getting one level of Stella's humor! You show promise.
