New Image of IRON MAN Online - Jan 09, 2008 - 04:40pm
Same thoughts, Almost.
This film continues to be one of my top anticipated films of 2008. Robert Downey Jr. seems to be the perfect actor to tackle the Tony Stark character and I love the trailers given to us already at this point.
I'm curious on what the SB ad will be..and I believe we're getting our first Hulk ad at the SB as well.
THE WOLFMAN Begins Filming Feb 8 - Jan 09, 2008 - 04:32pm
Heh, Greg..I understand what you are saying here. I've seen the Lon Chaney classic tale so I know where it's based out of. I'm a horror fantatic.
I know what you're saying..We just don't write up or edit plot summaries given by the official sources.
If it helps, I believe Universal means..
"It will be like 1941 classic...only the new film will be set in Victoria England"
I can add an "only the" into the plot concept but I can tell you a lot of us don't like doing that. Check out Comingsoon's database entry for The Wolfman..or any number of other sites. We don't like to touch plot concepts or make up plot summaries. We just copy the exact wording from the studio's official site or press release. If they have it worded strange, that's something they should fix in their statements first before we touch it.
In a lot of cases, we do send them notes on errors.
Remember that press release about Spock's mother being human over at Variety a few months back..A lot of editors sent in the error there and wanted clarification before we published that information. This Wolfman one just happens to be a point which nobody has bothered telling Universal to correct their press releases..Because like the Trek snafu, it's a wording issue.
I'll change it for you though..Just letting you know my thoughts on the whole "plot concept" and "plot summary" deal. I had a few comments a few months ago telling me about how a plot was wrong for the subject matter at hand..Had to explain the same thing..The plot may be different than the source material (book, in that case) but that's the plot given to us.
New Image of IRON MAN Online - Jan 09, 2008 - 03:38pm
Sony,
You made a one line comment for the one I took out, which consisted of..
"I think you have her confused with Jesus's mom".
That's it.
You do this kind of stuff all the time and none of it was warranted into the conversation. You wanted to add yet another "baiting" topic which could derail the conversation into..what...Jesus and your dislike towards that faith?
You are free to have your beliefs on Jesus, God or whatever..but this isn't a site for those topics..And no, there has never been an article written by me saying "Jesus is a superhero".
Because this site isn't about religious debates nor is it about politics..If you want to go off on those subjects or argue the merits of believing in Jesus on a daily basis, you take that elsewhere which cover those subjects.
Yes, comics mean discussing politics at times, that much is obvious.
You weren't looking for that with the one line you threw in above..You were looking to derail the conversation with a one-liner..an insult towards a religious faith...Something which has nothing to do with IRON MAN.
Go discuss that topic elsewhere.
As I have said already...I have warned you before on this.
New Image of IRON MAN Online - Jan 09, 2008 - 02:31pm
Sonyman,
Your troll comment on Jesus is getting taken out by me. This isn't a religious talking points site..nor is it politics or any other such commentary.
This is a site for genre news and content. I've also warned you before on trolling that topic here at Mania.
The subect matter in this case is Iron Man, not your belief's on Jesus' mother.
Consider yourself warned one last time. Take that commentary elsewhere to sites which are focused on that..
THE WOLFMAN Begins Filming Feb 8 - Jan 09, 2008 - 02:24pm
Gregcox, I take plot summaries from the official press releases or the studio's PR sites. That's what the studio has in their press releases for this film. Understand that you want to argue the point but until they come up with a different "official" plot concept, that's going to remain the same.

THE WOLFMAN Begins Filming Feb 8 - Jan 09, 2008 - 04:13am
You have it a pretty decent "news" memory, DeadgunSlinger..
On Feb 8, 2007, Mark Romanek was announced as directing the film. So production will roll officially a year to the day.
It was initially planned to begin filming in the fall but production stalled due to Del Toro's schedule on wrapping up some projects.
And Pony, I have the same reaction towards the photo. Dude looks sinister enough without the makeup..

Moore Talks More BSG Final Season in EW - Jan 08, 2008 - 02:53am
I believe it's now split, Pony. The WGA strike was the issue which broke the camel's back on that one.
Moore planned to film the mid-season cliffhanger around Thanksgiving and I'm sure he got that one done since it was already scripted out fully before the Oct 31 deadline but the second half of the season will be delayed due to the strike.
I remember doing news for it back in November so unless there has been an update, that's where it stands for now.
Three Clips from DUNGEON SIEGE - Jan 07, 2008 - 10:20pm
lol Jakeypoo,
I too have my own hatred for Uwe Boll. The thought of him doing a Far Cry movie makes me a bit sick..
But coverage is coverage and it be my job, numbnuts. :)
Besides, this article gives everyone a perfect opportunity to be negative for mass amounts of people. Never enough of that, right?
Oh...go tell the PG (who everyone knows is not a girl) troll off in the Cloverfield article if it pleases you.

Maggie Gyllenhaal Talks Dawes in DARK KNIGHT - Jan 07, 2008 - 01:46am
Not me, no. And that's just the headliners..There's a few semi-decent ones also thrown into the smaller roles as well.
Heh, I believe (and hope) this film will kick ass.
It's going to be a strange year for comic films. A superhero movie led by Robert Downey Jr? A superhero movie led by Edward Norton? The same led by Bale, Heath Ledger and Aaron Eckhart?
Crazy year for comic fans...
United Artists and WGA Make a Deal - Jan 07, 2008 - 01:32am

Let Uncle Sam Buy Your Digital TV - Jan 07, 2008 - 01:29am
The whole "forced change" bit should be interesting to watch as well. We got into a debate last night (partially because of excess beer of course) over the format wars.
None of us have picked up a HD-DVD or a Blu-Ray because the whole deal seems a bit forced on us. The key factor though is the one question..."How long before something else comes along and replaces both formats?"
We know that digital distribution of movies is very close on the horizon and that's a factor as to why the WGA is currently on strike..They know it's coming soon as well.
So, all of these new technology platforms are interesting to see from an outside perspective.
Hell, I remember just a few years ago..they said HDTV programming would be standard on all networks and television series by 2007. So, we bought our HDTV in 2006 and we were ready for it. Obviously, that "standard" medium has been pushed back now.
Disney Continues With TREASURE Hunt - Jan 06, 2008 - 05:16pm

Routh Out of SUPERMAN Sequel? - Jan 04, 2008 - 02:28am
MadManic,
WB isn't replacing the Batman character in future Bats sequels..This only applies to Routh and Superman Sequels...
But yes, I do agree with you on that whole 90120 issue..That's why both Bale and Nolan have expressed displeasure at the whole JLA thing..Bale wants WB to wait till his trilogy is over..Who really knows what WB will cast for their JLA Superman..Will it be someone we even "want" for future Superman sequels? That's why this speculation seems crazy at the moment..
We don't know if there will even be a JLA film. We don't know if JLA will even perform up to expectations (or fail)..
Routh Out of SUPERMAN Sequel? - Jan 04, 2008 - 01:52am
Or it could end up failing horribly, depending on who WB cast as their JLA "Superman"..They could end up getting some 23 year old actor with highlights to play the character in the film and we could end up being stuck with him for the future movies..
Or it could work as you say..Who really knows, right?
Hell, I seriously doubt JLA will get even made no matter how many times I have to write up more speculation on it..Perhaps, I'm wrong..When the WGA strike ends..A JLA film could end up in production in the near future (even if I doubt it).
We also know that the DGA and SAG will be going against AMPTP on the exact same issues that the WGA are currently fighting them on. So, WB is waiting for this current strike to resolve only to have two new possible strikes rear their heads in the upcoming months.
If...If...If....A lot of those come into play when talking about any JLA movie or this whole Routh/Singer angle...
Golden Globes Seek Deal with WGA - Jan 03, 2008 - 01:24pm
Smeg..Rgt,
Did you check out the Hollywood Reporter article linked at the bottom of the article? That's the whole "deal nixed" piece that CS and MSN took from..
As I said it in line below the title..They may seek a compromise but it's not going to happen here. Mr. Camara bit off more then he can chew with that statement.
HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX - Dec 27, 2007 - 02:03pm
Agreed with Merin. I found this movie much better than Goblet of Fire. Yates clearly did better than Newell or perhaps it was screenwriter Kloves taking this film off for a break. It feels more like a director's change though..
And yes, I agree there still should have been things in the film..The conversation between Harry and Dumbledore should have been longer and more clear..just a few more minutes..
Not really an "Extras" sorta guy..I'll watch it if I really really feel the need to in some cases.
Have to say the commentary for The Thing is still one of my favorites.
Agree with your review grade, Tim. Definitely one of the best films of the summer.
ALIENS VS. PREDATOR: REQUIEM - Dec 27, 2007 - 01:51am
No, I don't accept gifts, t-shirts, nor anything else from studios. That's certain other sites.
Yes, I remember Spiderr very well. He kept accusing Patrick Sauriol (Our NewsEd at the time) of working for Universal. He eventually accused me of the same deal.
ALIENS VS. PREDATOR: REQUIEM - Dec 27, 2007 - 01:38am
Actually, I'm not heated at all nor am I mischaracterizing you. I'm stating basic facts as to your previous comments in this talkback. I don't really mind that you hate the movie. Everyone has an opinion on something and I say more power to them..and to you. You can talk till Hell freezes over about not liking this film or any other if you so choose to.
No, I don't make any income towards merchandising, residuals, or anything else in relation to this film. I have no personal investment in it.
Someone will eventually say my full name, job title and employer if they so choose to.
ALIENS VS. PREDATOR: REQUIEM - Dec 27, 2007 - 01:16am
You have 21 comments in this article, Sleeper. 21 of the 60 comments are from you and the only comment consisting of your actual review for the film is your first comment (#4). Which seems odd since you haven't seen the film...
Your 2nd comment was a smart ass response to Joeybaloney.
Your 3rd comment was an insult towards Dalton for liking the film.
Your 4th comment was an insult towards Fox (not thoughts on the movie).
Your 5th comment was another few insults towards Dalton.
Your 6th comment was insults towards Daforce for liking the film.
Your 7th and 8th comments were pointed towards me after I questioned your previous ad hominem comments..
Your 9th comment was an insult towards Collector for liking the film..
Your 11th comment was a semi-apology to Dalton for getting another reviewer's opinion mixed up (Live Free or Die Hard).
Your 12th comment was pointed towards people who liked the film using the words "Denial"..
Your 13th and 14th comments are about not seeing the movie (which makes your review in comment #4 seem odd).
Your 15th comment is more insults (nothing to do with AvP:Requiem). This is the time when this talkback has been derailed..
Your 16th comment was another shot my direction for calling you out.
Your 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th and 21st comments are where we are now..You asking me repeatedly about being a Fox executive and telling me how you're the one getting attacked..
As far as "Why" I haven't addressed your question about me working for Fox..
Well, I don't really need to, Sleeper. Most people here know exactly where I work..They know whose payroll I'm on and it's certainly not 20th Century Fox.
I usually sign my name at the bottom of the comments when I want to be clear that I'm talking back to my fellow Maniacs here, especially when they have a question about a particular news article.
So yes, quite a bit of people here know whose payroll I'm on and they know my full name. It's certainly not a name written on any checks cut from 20th Century Fox hence I really don't need to address that particular question from you.
ALIENS VS. PREDATOR: REQUIEM - Dec 27, 2007 - 12:21am
Well, you are doing ad hominem here which is the reason I chimed in the first place. People said they liked the film. You responded almost immediately attacking them and their judgement of movies as a whole rather then any true counterpoints of the movie (which is understandable since you haven't seen the film).
You're free to have your opinion about the topic just as their free to have theirs on the film. You attack them, they attack back. That's why trolls bait in the first place..To get the topic off-subject and derail conversation..
Hence the common saying..."Don't feed the trolls".
ALIENS VS. PREDATOR: REQUIEM - Dec 27, 2007 - 12:07am
Once again, Sleeper..You're continuing with the ad hominem technique...
ALIENS VS. PREDATOR: REQUIEM - Dec 26, 2007 - 04:49pm
Dalton says he liked it..
You respond 13 minutes later going after his opinion on cinema more then any direct response about the film..
"Ugh. Dalton, aren't you the guy who wrote that godawful review for Live Free or Die Hard here?
Can't believe you're defending this POS. Actually, it all makes sense now--you're from the bizarro world!
Guys, don't even bother picking this dud up on DVD. Use the alternatives if you have to watch it at all, or better yet, don't watch it and use the time you save to e-mail Fox and demand that whatever studio executive who decided to greenlight this thing be sh*t-canned ASAP. "
Daforce say he happen to like the film..26 minues later, you do it again..
"I'm sorry, but trying to validate watching AVP-R by bashing I Am Legend and No Country for Old Men is a transparent ploy, not to mention pathetic. Both those films were WAY better than AVPR can even hope to be, and quite frankly, mentioning them in the same breath as AVP-R is an insult to both of them. "
I have to wonder if and WHY you've seen Aliens vs. Predator:Requiem after all the bashing you've done for this film these past few weeks..
Here's AvP:Requiem articles in which you've made your position more then clear, Sleeper...

"This POS is going to suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck!
First off, that planet doesn't show any of the same design elements we saw in the Predator ships from the original movies.
Second, why do they insist on showing all these lame photos of the Predalien? That one where it's leering over a screaming woman looks hilarious--it's like it's got little crab claws and it's saying "Rrrrowwrrr! I'm going to PINCH you! PINCH you! Rrrowwrr!"
If someone just had a crab mallet and some butter, that woman would be saved! "
December 19 Article:

Here's your first comment from this article..
"The word is already out, this movie is terrible.

---------------------------------------------------------
As I say, you have made your position quite clear on this film, Sleeper.
I'm still confused why you've seen this film the last few days after all the criticism you've waged towards it in all the articles.
ALIENS VS. PREDATOR: REQUIEM - Dec 26, 2007 - 03:49pm
Sleeper, why are you so adamant about bashing people who liked the film?
For nearly two months now, attached to every single article I publish for this film..pictures, teasers, clips..trailers..You've been bashing this movie.
Now, you're bashing the fellow readers here who happen to like the film?
Makes little sense. We understand you don't like it..I understood that fact after two or three articles for this film in October when you kept chiming in that this film would be total garbage..

Viggo has expressed interest in returning, Westend.
It seems that they will definitely be closing the gap, due to all the extensive notes that JRR Tolkien left on the many characters.
I'm not sure if that means we'll be seeing Viggo playing his Thorongil alter-ego or not but it seems likely.

Ahhh, Hanso. It is a cool poster too..
Btw everyone...As I wrote in my blog, I've changed our Development Hell section around. Got rid of the outdated movies(released movies) and it will now serve as a true database with up-to-date trailers, teasers, behind-the-scene featurettes, etc..
Basically, it can now be a place for everyone to talk about the movie year round..Same goes for Iron Man in our development hell section, Cloverfield, GI Joe, Justice League, Thor, etc etc..
If I miss a trailer or behind the scene featurette to add into those individual sections, feel free to contact me with the link and I'll add it to those sections.

TOS 'Guardian' Writer Ellison Denies STAR TREK Rumor - Dec 14, 2007 - 04:22pm
Haha, Dazzler. I had the same thoughts last month when that guy from the Online Star Trek show talked smack about the new Star Trek film.
Trekweb and Trekmovie put it up on their site last month as "news" and I had three scoops in my inbox..
My immediate thoughts were...
"This is news??"
"Who the hell is this guy and why should I care about his opinion enough to report it?"
As I said in a rant last month on it, I understand why sites like Trekweb and Trekmovie report it. After all, this is a new Star Trek movie coming out and they're going to be giving as much..."news" as they can find even when it's not actually news...
But I know I won't be reporting every single bit they do on the subject. Especially not about people's opinions who play some obscure character on an "online" web series based in the Trek universe..
In a lot of cases, I do need to report the news if it's worthy enough..like this Harlan Ellison interview. Harlan has done enough and has earned the right to talk the subject and after all, he's hilarious. Same goes for people involved with TNG, Roddenberry's camp, JJ Abrams' camp, etc. They've earned their right to talk about the new film but I won't be printing any fanboy's thoughts even if Trekweb publishes it as a news..
I'll still publish casting news, photos..and credible stories from credible sources..I'll continue reporting that..
And yes, in some cases, it's not a joy to do so..
Especially in all that JLA crap last month. Every single day, someone was saying.."Ohhh, this person was cast as Wonderwoman!" and "Hey, this guy is the new Batman."
After a while, you start going..."Okay, I'll write this out...I'll publish it...but I don't believe any of this shit. "
Hell, I'm still in the category of "I don't believe a JLA movie is coming out..This has development hell written all over it."
But yep, I'll still pass it along to you guys and I still try to keep my opinions out of the articles themselves..Especially when I'm so tempted to end a JLA article with..
"JLA will hit theaters when Hell Freezes Over"
Oh..and Rgt..I'll put up "TCOTEOF" in the next few articles about this subject..Haha, but you watch..I'll have a new reader going "What does TCOTEOF mean?!?" Remember, that's the time when you Trekkies..Trekkers, Nerds and fellow Geeks swoop into teach the fan-patented abbreviations. :)

Singleton Confirms A-TEAM, Drops EXECUTIVE ORDER:SIX - Dec 13, 2007 - 06:08pm
I would have liked to see Singleton do a sci-fi thriller but I definitely understand him dropping Executive Order: Six...That movie's concept does look a bit too like Carpenter's version of The Thing..
Still, there can't ever be enough sci-fi thrillers for my taste...Unless they're being done by Uwe Boll.

First SPEED RACER Trailer - Dec 08, 2007 - 09:03pm
Once again, Metalwater.
This is a SPEED RACER article. Nothing related to Star Wars. So, why are you once again going off on something altogether different?
First SPEED RACER Trailer - Dec 08, 2007 - 05:49pm
What are you talking about, Metalwater?
George Lucas has admitted himself that his tale is taken from many mythologies and from previous cinematic masterpieces like Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress.
At the end of the day, he says his tale is based on "The Hero's Journey.." which is the truth.
A tale that has been told in literature for a thousand years.
Hell, Beowulf, written between 700-1000 AD is a "Hero's Journey"...
I've seen you do this "Hey, they stole from this concept or that concept" over..and over...and over again..
But you've really lost me here. A "Hero's Journey" has been told countless times long before Star Wars and long afterwards.
George Lucas has SAID on many occasions that his SW trilogy is based on The Hidden Fortress and many different mythologies long before that..Furthermore, this is a SPEED RACER article..
Why are you derailing it to your strange speculation on George Lucas? Go make a blog.
HEROES: Powerless - Dec 05, 2007 - 02:44am
I cheered when Maya was taken out and had a good few chuckles over what was said when it was done..
Sylar looking at the camera (Suresh off-screen): "See what you made me do."
*fires*
*Maya drops dead*
It felt like a line delivered straight for the fans of Heroes from the creators because the characters were so unpopular.
Then, of course, they bring her back and disappointment set in..
I liked what Hiro ended up doing with Adam for two reasons. It gives Adam a chance to come back in the future and it shows off alittle of Hiro's darker side/dark humor. In some ways, leaving him in a coffin in the same graveyard where his father and mother now rest is much more sinister then simply chopping his head off.
I bet it was Noah who fired the shots there at the end against Nathan but I think I agreed with a family member in the statement.."I hope that's not Noah!". That would literally kill all progress between Noah and Claire. I am somewhat happy that Noah's no longer hiding though..He's a strong character and I like him staying in the shade of gray then being a black or white character. Basically, the CSM effect.
It seems like Nikki is dead but I'm not sure on Nathan just yet. The tv reporter at the end made it a habit of saying "He was shot.."....not "He was killed...". There's still a way out for Nathan to return. Heck, same for Nikki since they didn't actually show her die but I'm thinking her character is really gone more than Nathans...
Oh right, I can't wait for the next chapter of the show. Just the last moments of Sylar "rising" and the title of the next segment sold me.
Villains!
Just the title alone for the next volumn intrigues me. Will it be based solely around numerous villains (Sylar, Adam, etc) looking for the top "I'm the true God"-type character amongst each other? Will it focus on villains joining together to fight the heroes of the show in a united effort?
The possibilities look good for that type of storyline and I can't wait.
HELLBOY 2 Trailer and Villains Coming Soon - Dec 04, 2007 - 06:36pm
Wiseguy,
In some cases, they do attach it to other genre films when that studio doesn't have anything big coming out..
Which is something I see here. Like you, I don't see it getting released attached to Charlie Wilson's War.
But there's no other genre Universal releases in December.
So, I assume it will be getting released online and attached to genre films like Aliens Vs. Predator (Fox), I Am Legend (WB) and Sweeney Todd (Paramount).

Harrison looks effing awesome, the look and feel of the scenes we have seen so far seem great and I cannot wait for this film to hit theaters again.
Harrison sporting a cobwebbed hat had me chuckling too..Full circle to his cobwebbed outfit in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
HEROES: Truth and Consequences - Nov 28, 2007 - 04:27am
The problem with that question is the unknown factor, Ultrazilla. We just don't know when the WGA strike will end and we don't know what the upcoming SAG/DAG strike will do to production next summer for the next season. So many unknowns have writers and studios not elaborating if they will finish a season after the current ones run out.
As for the show..
The Monica/Micah storyline should have been cut out when the WGA strike changed this into the next to last episode.
I liked the episode but again, the writers put in a pointless side story over Micah losing his book bag when the show should have centered on Noah, Claire, Matt, Suresh, Peter, Hiro and Nathan.
I had no qualms when Sylar took out one of the wondertwins and chuckled even harder when he kissed Maya right there while his body was still warm. Sylar is just one of those villains you love to hate..His ruthless behavior is a plus in a show where so many characters are too nice.
Also found it very strange that Maya couldn't sense anything wrong. I mean, other than being a supposed hero with powers, that's her twin dead right there...She couldn't sense anything?
Still, next to last episode and we hardly get any Noah...No Nathan...No Matt...Yet, we get Micah crying over his bookbag being lost. That was the only frustrating aspect of it.
The ending was awesome...Hiro screaming while charging Peter.
For next season, I ask the following from the writers and Kring.
1. Improve the common sense of Peter.
2. Improve the common sense of Suresh. (Or Kill him.)
3. No more lies between Claire, Noah and Co. Act as a unit.
4. Keep the main characters together for the most part, keep them in constant contact.
5. No amnesia. I love the Haitian character, someone we don't see enough of, but that's a tired plot device for good television series.

ENCHANTED Jumps Ahead of Hitman - Nov 24, 2007 - 04:25pm
Highest average per screen is a talking point and that's about it.
It's not the industry standard for the "true #1".
The true #1 is the film with the best box office at the end of the day.
Michael Clayton opened up on Oct 5-7 in 15 screens with an average per showing rate of nearly $48,000 per showing.
Good for them. It doesn't stop it from being on only 15 screens and landing in 22nd place for the weekend while The Game Plan began its successful run at the top of the pack.
There's only certain weekends where the highest per screen average actually affects the box office victory in terms of the smaller release beating the bigger release.
Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married is a clear example of that. It was released on 1,000 less theaters then its competition but its average had it beating the other films for that weekend.
In most cases, it's just a talking point though and not a true judge of anything other then a "limited release" film doing well.

Maggie Q is Silver Fox in WOLVERINE? - Nov 24, 2007 - 03:01am
Hope you had a good one too, Sonyman. Same for everyone else who celebrated it this week.
Our Thanksgiving was strange for us. My relatives didn't come in town for this holiday but we didn't know until the day before Thursday.
So..we had only 5 people and yet we had 6 pies and way too much food for only a small group.
Haha. I wasn't complaining of course..
We had some great Greenbean Casserole as well along with some sweet cabbage sorta deal my grandmother cooked up for the first time. Plenty of Turkey, stuffing and ham as well.
It was definitely a quiet affair since no family get together but they're all coming at the end of December instead.
I'm used to sitting down and playing poker afterwards with my Uncle, Aunt and cousins but no go this year. Instead, I watched the Cowboys play the Jets..which wasn't a matchup at all so the Turkey had me dozing off for bits at a time.
The slow news week is throwing me off as well. I'm so used to writing up 20 articles a day here and yet on these holidays, everyone else takes a few days off which makes life...well...boring. Not that I can't do boring everyonce in a while. I can certainly take it but I'm not used to it during the week. I knew the trades would take Thursday off but I was sure they'd give us something on Friday at least..Perhaps one or two news stories but nope..nada. So, I'm just bsing over at our forums and catching up on reading and banning those annoying Shrooms spammers that plague our Maniac User Feature sections.

Maggie Q is Silver Fox in WOLVERINE? - Nov 23, 2007 - 07:36pm
Yep, Filch, I worded that one incorrectly and it's been fixed. I meant that they're using Frank Miller's graphic novels and source material from the Weapon X comics as well but the pecan pie and cheesecake euphoria had me writing it out funky.
:)
As for my thoughts, Maggie Q seems like a good choice for the character if the negotiations come through for Hood, Jackman and Fox.
I'm still curious who is playing Creed. I know Mane has said he would like to reprise the role but I'm wondering if they bring him back or go a different direction.

Sotheby's Unveils Rowling's BEEDLE Novel - Nov 21, 2007 - 04:09pm
I'd say there's a high chance this is getting published, Todd. She'll probably wait a year or two so the six hand-written copies can fetch a good dollar amount for the charities..Wait a year and then publish it in mass production since she has retained the copyright/reproduction patent for it.
Jack Black Talks GREEN LANTERN - Nov 21, 2007 - 04:03pm
Thinking the same thoughts as you four.
I guess I'm thankful that Catwoman movie did something right.
Still, how could this have even been seriously considered by WB and Black??
Humor didn't exactly go over well in Batman and Robin...and Batman Forever.
What makes them think it would go over well with turning GL into a walking joke?
Gotta wonder what they put into their drinks over at WB. Some of these executives need to actually listen to the reactions they're getting from the fan community, especially with this JLA film.
Cast Set for Bruckheimer's G-FORCE - Nov 21, 2007 - 02:48am
Exfan,
This film is not related to the anime Gatchaman so you don't have to worry on that one. This is an entirely different movie that just happens to have the name G-Force.
Honestly, I can't wait for the studio to change the title of this film so this confusion goes away.
I know I don't feel like writing "This isn't related to the anime" in every single article over the next two years..

Sienna Miller Fights Against G.I JOE - Nov 20, 2007 - 04:50pm
Tacid --Comment#8:
"WOW! you have to be the worst Journalist I have ever seen.
Hasbro has already debunked the Brussels-based GIJOE rumor saying that they will be based in the "Pit"
This is taken from an article you posted yourself "The G.I. Joe team will not be based in Brussels. Instead, they will be based out of the "Pit""
http://www.mania.com/56544.html "
..........
I seriously thought about ignoring it because what's the point but I'll go ahead and respond.
1. Obviously, you don't check many news sites. Go to other sites like AICN for the "worst journalist" awards. Harry literally creamed when trying to pass off news about Simon Pegg getting cast in Trek. There's ton of examples from many blogs out there of worst journalists but by all means, feel free to throw it my direction because you didn't feel like clicking on the link above.
2. Try reading the press release that I linked to before hitting someone with an insult. I provided the link to the press release above in this article. You know, that link that says "Variety". The trades report press releases directly from the studio/production companies.
Now, click on that Variety link and read down to the "plot concept". ALL plot concepts for all movies given by all news sites are provided by press releases and the studio's official website.
I didn't create that "Plot Concept" above out of thin air. We always take it from the latest press release given by the studio.
Try reading the actual press releases before going off the deep end with the insults, tacid.
3. You gave me a link to a previous article. One that I wrote out myself. Again, as I say above, we provide the latest news from the latest press releases.
Today, some news story may hit the wires from some website stating "Thor will be based on Cybertron and the norse god will do battle against a bunch of cyber-midgets."
That doesn't mean that the plot won't change next week when the actual studio gives out another casting related press release.....

CLOVERFIELD Trailer #2 - Nov 20, 2007 - 02:12am
Did you click the right trailer, Metal? There's two trailers on that apple page now..The old one and the new one.
As for my take on the film, I can't wait and it's not because I want to see some big monster movie up close...
In fact, I'll say I don't want to see that. I want to see the monster attack through the eyes of a normal person.
I know a lot of people are saying.."Where's the monster? Just people running?"..
Examples like that. Personally, that's what I love about it.
Too many movies have some hero who stands toe-to-toe with the monster without any fear. I think we have enough of those examples in cinema.
I want to see the take on the people who just want to live through the ordeal..Who want to hide..Who want to escape and run...run...run some more.
I don't care if I get two minutes of the Monster when the film comes out. I'll be more excited if they just keep the suspense level high without the monster.
It's partially why I liked Signs. An alien invasion but there wasn't a need to overshow the aliens..The suspense was there without showing the aliens..Just giving the mind-effects of what an alien attack would do to a normal person.
I'm not a big fan of Shaky-Cam in a lot of instances...Greengrass's shaky-cam fight sequences in the Bourne Supremacy gives me headaches everytime even though I enjoy the movie itself.
But I'll glady accept Shaky-Cam in this case because it's about people with a camera running for their lives..trying to hide..trying to survive. It's realistic to have shaky-cam in this example.
Not some steady camera pointing directly into the face of the monster, not when the filmmaker is supposed to be in the movie/attack itself.
So I'll take it and I can't wait for a monster movie in which we get the story hardly told by Hollywood..Instead of some superhero staring down the monster with no fear, I'd like to see the take on the 99% other humans who just want to live through it.

Greenwood Talks CAPTAIN PIKE Role - Nov 15, 2007 - 01:28am
Alright, now that the article is live, I'll put my thoughts right here.
Nothing about Greenwood. He's great.
But the James Cawley part. I seriously debated even publishing this story because every day, some new person who has a hand in something TREK related sounds off at Trek Web or Trek Movie...I don't blame those sites because after all, they are sites relating to Star Trek and this movie gives them a chance to have .....news...
But seriously...
Why should I give two damns about James Cawley or what he has to say about this?
He's not happy about the NCC 1701 being changed? Okay, what did he think was going to happen here? Paramount and JJ Abrams would break out the original 1701 model and have it blazing through space in the original 60's "look"??
Keep dreaming, Mr. Cawley.
Second, why should we even care if you're angered?? Hell, how do we know what he claims is true? That he actually saw the new design for the NCC 1701 for the next film?
The Harlan Ellison frustration, I can understand. He had a hand in the TOS storyline which may come into play with this movie...I can understand his stake in the film if that is the plotline.
But Cawley's anger? Personally, I don't give a damn.
He plays Captain Kirk on this "web-series" New Voyages...Does he really think the principals involved with the real TOS production are thrilled with his New Voyages storylines and character depictions? The majority of Star Trek fans most likely like Shatner's Kirk..Not some Cawley Kirk on a web-based series..
As I say, I totally understand the Star Trek focused websites letting people like this "speak out" on the upcoming film. It's what they do and it's "news" for them to publish. I'm reaching my limit on it though...The only people whom are newsworthy in having anything to say about this new film should be the people involved with TOS, Gene Rod's family and perhaps people involved with TNG since this is placing the final nail in the coffin for their films..Those are people worth mentioning in "news" relating to the new Trek film.
I guess there's some irony here. Here I am stating this right after I included it in the article above, right?
:)
I guess I'm just saying from now on...If Gene himself isn't coming back from the dead to say something, I won't be mentioning anyone else's take on the next film unless their thoughts actually "deserve" to be mentioned...i.e TOS crew/staff...TNG crew/staff...Gene's family...or this film's crew/cast.
First Images of Quinto's SPOCK Online - Nov 13, 2007 - 02:02pm
Normally, I'd let this one go but I'm going to respond to it this time..
Lazerman writes: "Go to AINTITCOOL, they have even more pictures, not just this one, and it is so fuzzy, you can't make a judgement call on it until you see and HEAR him in the character."
....
Lazerman, they do not have more photos for themselves. They just took more photos from the original site for their own purposes, something which is generally frowned upon by other news sites. Sure, take one...and give a link. Don't take multiple photos..Let the readers go to the site which breaks the news for that one.
AICN took those photos from JFX Online, Lazerman.
Like most news they do, they don't highlight that fact..instead they link to JFX and IESB after the photos..I'll give it to Quint..At least he mentioned their names above the pictures.
In many cases, they don't even do that.
This is why AICN gets so much heat from other guys around. They steal shit or they do their best to limit the knowledge that they took anything from someone else.
Hell, I've seen them say in very small words just last week ."According to this guy" ...The word "this" was the link to the original article. That was their sole discretion for giving credit..
What? They could share the breaking story but when it came down to crediting where the story came from, they just say "this guy"??? Not even the site name?
That's the problem here.
JFX ONLINE is linked above, Lazerman. They are the ones where we all got the photos. That's where you should go for multiple looks as I wrote above..Not AICN.
As I say, normally I wouldn't have said anything but this isn't the first time I've seen some comment saying go to AICN when all they were doing is taking stuff from another site...The people who should get the credit for any news article is the one who does the breaking scoop..Not some third party that does its very best to steal everything without even trying very hard to give credit where credit is due.
Credit for an article should be in the first paragraph of any article. It should be clearly said..i.e the site name or the guy who writes it...It shouldn't be said AFTER the photos in the article. It certainly shouldn't just say "these guys", "them", or "this person" as AICN likes to do on a frequent basis...

WGA Update: Projects Like JLA in Question - Nov 12, 2007 - 05:02am
Agreed Pony and Co.
I still maintain my own earlier opinion that this project has "Development Hell" stamped all over it since Early October.
Even if I have to write up a news story on it every few days, I just have the feeling it won't be getting made...that it won't fall into Development Hell in the next few months.
It's just too ambitious a project under the circumstances of this recent strike-related atmosphere in Hollywood. There have been way too many hiccups along the way over the past few months.
I'll believe it's getting made when George Miller says "Action"...(Which means, it would cost WB too much to halt production.)
Until then, I'll continue passing the news on it when something happens but I don't really see it going anywhere for now.

I just don't see how Helen McCrory looks anything like the description for Narcissa Malfoy. I tried finding a photo of the actress with blond hair just to get a better comparison shot but came up empty.
It's not just that though...After all, there's always hair dye. It's just McCrory doesn't look like my mental picture of Narcissa as Rowling describes her in the final two books.
She does make for a good Bellatrix look..but Helena now has that part and she fits it perfectly.

Kring Apologizes to HEROES Fans - Nov 08, 2007 - 06:37pm
I hear you, Gauley.
I'll send this to NBC and Kring just for reading purposes. I'm pretty sure someone from NBC or the production company behind the show will have read this article already today anyway so nothing to worry about on that one.
Personally, I haven't seen much wrong with Season 2 guys...Before writing out the article this morning, my first thoughts were "Apologizing for what??"
I understand that some people may not like it but I like the action coming into effect later into the season..I like the set-up. Personally, I couldn't stand the twins but when Sylar entered the mix, I loved it. By the way, I cannot wait for them to get pulled over for a stolen vehicle...Not because they're going to jail (Sylar or Maya will deal with that) but because they're driving Claire's stolen vehicle...That'll be funny as hell..All Sylar needs to do is open the glove compartment and it drives me crazy..
Every week, I'm thinking..
"Open the glove compartment, Gabriel! See the registration names!"
And I was one who thought they should have killed off Sylar in the Season 1 finale..To bring about some closure to the storyline...
Now? Hell no. Sylar is like CSM. He's one of those characters who should stick around because he's such a great character to hate/love/hate/love/hate/like because he's so evil/hate/love some more...
Anyway, I understand the thoughts on Hiro staying so long in the past and I've thought West was a villain since day 1 of his appearance...but I like the set-up to Adam Monroe.

Bee Hive Stung by AMERICAN GANGSTERS - Nov 04, 2007 - 10:27pm
I've thought about that before, Kw...The reason I ended up not doing it was because in any given week, there's perhaps just 1 or 2 films that have a budget listed. Perhaps 3 films at most.
For the most part, the studios keep the budgets to themselves until later in the release. A few months after the film gets released, they're more likely to give the budget but a lot of studios don't even do that.
Basically, it would mean a new column on the chart where only perhaps 2 rows would have any information and the rest would be "N/A" ....
I try to stay on top of the budgets that are released though. If someone gives the cost for a certain movie, I'll pass it along..
If more studios agree to release budgets, I'll definitely add a new column for it though, kw.

HEROES:ORIGINS Scrapped For Now - Nov 01, 2007 - 01:45am
I understand that you were really just stating your opinion there...
The writers and studios are struggling to meet deadlines for the scripted shows at this moment...They're working overtime right now to script out all 22-24 episodes for the many full-time series on the air.
Most writers/studios have only scripted out 10-14 episodes at this point of time with the knowledge that the WGA can walk away from the bargaining table.
Since the main focus is getting all of the original HEROES series scripted at this point, they're scrapping this until after the strike is resolved.

Sorry about that Hanso, I just checked out the Wonder Woman article comments and see you mentioned it too. I saw it earlier but I still would have credited you if I saw you mention it..I tend to check my email for scoops and read comments later in the day.
Still, I'm keeping a close eye to Whysoserious..Something may happen at Midnight. I'll credit you with that one. :)
And yes, this film is turning into a joke. I'm still very...very sure...that this film has development hell written all over it. I've asked a few other news editors and everyone is thinking there's a 50/50 chance of JLA actually getting made. I'm more in the 30/70 group..Maybe even 20/80. I just don't see it happening unless they're half way through filming...
This is too ambitious a project and this production has experienced way too many snafus for me to believe otherwise. You can bet WB executives see the constant negative feedback on just about every media outlet. They should know it's turning into a joke by now..If not, they'll certainly know before production begins.

Capcom Adapting a CG RESIDENT EVIL Film - Oct 30, 2007 - 02:13am
Yes, Biohazard is the name for this series in Japan, Moz. Since the CG-Film is primarily getting released in Japan first, it's sticking with it's title...I'm sure if it gets international distribution, it will be called Resident Evil: Degeneration here in the states.
Not sure why everyone's going off on Advent Children...I just mentioned it would be done in the same vein..i.e CG-film. They're both managed by two entirely different developers..Capcom manages RE/Biohazard...Square-Enix manages the FF franchise.
I would have thought some Resident Evil fans would be happy they may get a seperate film linked closer to the Game series..since Capcom is co-producing this film.

BSG:RAZOR To Hit Select Theaters - Oct 25, 2007 - 06:49am
lol It seems clear that you will not budge here, Metal.
Before hitting the sack, I'm just pointing out that Larson is the one who approved this Razor film after Universal/NBC agreed to his stipulations. They agreed on the project. His stipulation was that it air on tv before hitting DVD. He's an active producer on the film who is getting paid for it.
I came in here because I saw you going off on how Larson will be able to sue Universal/NBC over this news.
I came in to ask you..."How do you know Larson hasn't already given his approval for this theater release?"
Larson and NBC/Universal aren't exactly fighting at the current time. In fact, Universal/NBC have just picked up another show with Larson very clearly attached ...the upcoming Knight Rider reworking/revision, based on Larson's idea and having him on board as a credited writer. This is Larson's baby...He's been sitting on it for years after his constant disagreements with David Hassellhoff. Well, Universal/NBC just optioned it.
The two sides are working together not only on Razor but also on other projects like this new Knight Rider show..
So my first question is still my last question before I get some sleep..
How do you know that Larson, as an active producer for Razor, hasn't already given his approval for this Free Nine City Theater Release?
Fox Greenlights MAD MAX 4 Production - Oct 25, 2007 - 06:16am
Not too busy at the moment, Flint. About to catch some quick sleep and it's been nice to vent a little frustration towards the film as well. You gave me an opportunity.
I usually just listen to you guys say what needs to be said but every once in a while, it's nice to vent the very same frustrations that you feel even if I have to write the articles out in a non-biased way.
Hahaha, believe me. Sometimes, I'm so close to ending an article with "They're effing nuts!". Alas, that's a bit too AICN-ish for me though...
BSG:RAZOR To Hit Select Theaters - Oct 25, 2007 - 06:03am
Once again, Metal, you are assuming that Larson hasn't already agreed to this Nine City Free Theater Release.
The stipulation for this Razor film was that it air on television before hitting the DVD market.
You do not know that Larson hasn't already given full approval on this nine city release. Universal and Larson have already agreed on this Razor film and all principal decisions made for it including the dvd release. Larson is a credited producer, under his WGA stipulations, for this Razor film and his terms have been fully met or this film wouldn't be happening. He's an acting producer.
You are assuming that Larson hasn't already agreed to this free nine city theater release as a consulting producer for the film. If Universal has had Larson's approval before anything else relating to this movie, why would they do this nine city tour without first consulting him, Metal?
Fox Greenlights MAD MAX 4 Production - Oct 25, 2007 - 05:53am
Popa, the many false starts of Mad Max 4 are attributed to disagreements between Gibson and the Studio on which direction to take and other factors. That's the reason for moving onward without him. "Age" is just nice Hollywood-language reasoning. It's the same tone as "creative differences" that we sometime see...
Flint,
"DarkJedi, do you get the impression that they just don't care? That's the impression I'm getting. "
Or they care way too much, man. Their enthusiasm is getting the better of them along with a lack of common sense. You know the common factors..Throw in some "Yes" men and productive decision making can move very quickly towards "studio insanity".
Ever since JLA was first announced earlier this year, the executives over at Warner Bros talked about how "excited" they were over the script turned in to them. Well, their excitement is getting a little carried away at the current time. They're so eager to get this made that they seem willing to skip points A, B & C and head straight to E if you know what I mean.
November is fast approaching and we still do not have a cast member publicly selected. The only casting rumors we have come across are widely regarded as negative in fan feedback.
Basically, they're shooting themselves in the foot by being too eager. A JLA film has been rumored and desired for years now. Warner Bros. have wanted to do it for a very long time and now with this script, they think they have the story. But they are so eager to reach the finish line that they seem to be forgetting to put one leg forward before the next.
This is too ambitious a project to rush. WB should know that. They do know that.
As I say, I can see history repeating itself. Just 4 years back, we here at Mania were getting reports of Wolfgang getting ready to cast the project "World's Finest" aka "Batman vs. Superman". Rumors were going strong, the production was heating up and Warner Bros. wanted that film made with the very same enthusiasm. Unfortunately, it got the better of them and after a while, the two franchises were again seperated...
I can definitely see history repeating itself again...
BSG:RAZOR To Hit Select Theaters - Oct 25, 2007 - 05:25am
Metal,
Are you assuming that Larson hasn't already approved this action? After all, Larson is a credited producer for this film. He has been paid for Razor and contract details have been worked out in terms of his rights for this film. Universal-NBC didn't even okay this movie until they had Larson's stipulations first.
Fox Greenlights MAD MAX 4 Production - Oct 25, 2007 - 04:46am
Nope, you're not the only one, Flint. Your thinking the exact same thing I was thinking while writing this article in the last hour.
I experienced a few "Wtf" thoughts mixed in with some "Yeah, right." doubts.
I've been thinking for a while now that JLA has "Development Hell" stamped all over it in the very near future, Flint. With every new report on that film, I move more towards skepticism. The whole JLA production feels like the same stuff we went through years before on McG and Wolfgang Peterson being attached to bring about Superman and the other film, Superman vs. Batman. Wolfgang got the closest and yet failed in the end. That's what the JLA feels like..Though, of course, I may end up wrong. WB may get this film rushed into production after all..It may see the light of day.
By some miracle, George Miller may actually oversee a JLA film, a Mad Max 4 and a Happy Feet 2 all at the same time.
But I seriously doubt it.....

Millar Denied SUPERMAN Pitch by WB - Oct 24, 2007 - 06:02pm
Xyde, Elvis Gump was being sarcastic there with his "epic" comment....
While I liked SR along with a very few people here against so many people who hate it, I do have to question the logic behind Warner Bros. and DC lately.
As gauley says, writers are constantly switching to different publishers.
The thought of WB ignoring anyone from Dark Horse, Image, Marvel or any number of indie publishers because they're competition is very ...very...questionable. It makes for a limited selection pool.
It seems downright silly.
It's not as if WB is making any friends with their JLA news over the past month. Now, they're doing this?
Crazy.

Cemetery Screens THE SHINING on Halloween - Oct 23, 2007 - 04:48pm
I'll ignore your jab, gauleyboy, since I clearly spelled cemetery twice inside the article itself.
I admit, mistakes happen when I'm rushing at 3 am in the morning. Fixing it now.

Cohen Gives an Update for MUMMY 3 - Oct 22, 2007 - 05:13pm
Nope, it's always been planned as a sequel. I believe your thinking about the seperate entity...a direct to dvd prequel of The Scorpion King. Same franchise but different creators, format, etc..

First Look at REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA - Oct 21, 2007 - 03:44am
lol If it helps, she was literally booed off the stage last night at the Scream Awards. :)
HELLGATE:LONDON Goes Live - Oct 19, 2007 - 05:09am
No luck yet, Pat?
What's the error message say? Perhaps, it should be sent into Flagship.
HEROES: The Kindness of Strangers - Oct 17, 2007 - 01:57am
I have to say that Sylar is indeed a great character now. I can't believe that I was wishing death upon his character at the end of last season for some true closure. Now?
No...I truly hope he becomes the Cigarette Smoking Man of Heroes. He's just one of those characters which draws you in...That smirk at the end of last night's show? When he's starting the engine after hearing the twins story? That smirk had me laughing for a stretch there. He's such a great character, I'd rather keep him around...Keep a shady character who always looks after himself ala CSM.
I can't tell if the big baddie "cockroach" is working with Sylar or if he's just following him around. Last time we saw him, he was crawling on the manhole cover on the season finale.
Speaking of which, the story regarding the twins just got a bit more interesting now that Gabriel is involved. Thank god. It will get a hell of lot more interesting when they get picked up driving Claire's stolen vehicle.
That's what I was expecting in this episode. I kept waiting for Gabriel to open the glove compartment and see....Claire's name on the registration for the vehicle. The thief didn't strike me as a guy who would think about cleaning out the car before driving to Mexico...All Gabriel has to do is open the glove compartment or get caught and find out who the Nissan Rogue belongs to..
Then, it shall be on...
"Sauron" (dubbed that because of the 'Eye' pictures and his "I seee youu" to Molly) finally has a name...or rather a face. Has Matt said his name yet?
What I really liked about the show is that the writers are not going everywhere all at once, like Stephen alluded to. I would rather focus on just a few characters for one episode...and then...say.....Focus on Peter next week. (As the preview looked like..).
Some of the best episodes during season one were the ones where only a few characters appeared. Not all of them. I think Kring and Co. stretch themselves too far by having everyone (or nearly) crammed into a one hour show.
I'm glad they didn't show Hiro or Peter in this show even if they're such loved characters. It's better to focus on them next week.
Great show!
Possible Cast Choices For JUSTICE LEAGUE - Oct 15, 2007 - 05:50am
Love that sarcasm, TotallyClover. I did that because some people may not know who Jeremy Piven or Common is. I know a few people who have never seen a Star Wars film before & never heard of John Williams or James Horner..Hard as it is to believe, there's likely someone out there whom have never listened to a rap song by Common nor seen the great work of Piven.
Love how that's your only contribution to the discussion though. Sarcasm. That's seldom seen here on the internet... :)
As far as the JLA movie, I feel your pain guys on a lot of fronts.
One, rushed movies on this scale makes for disasters.
Two, this ambitious a project in the timeframe needed has "Back to development hell" written all over it. Does anyone really think they get this film shot by June 2008?
Three, it should be noted that these are only the stars Hollywood Reporter has heard about. There probably have been older and much more established thespians whom we haven't heard about trying for these roles. As sportswarrior said in comment #3, Bats and Supes may be cast from a more established older actor. But yes, this group of "young" actors have auditioned for the roles says HR and if any of them get cast, then I share your fears...Bring out a rushed JLA Mtv-esque film? No thank you, Warner Bros.

Wanted!: Writers for Live Action STAR WARS - Oct 14, 2007 - 06:51am
:) Necro, I was referring to the "Return of the Jedi" death star.. and it was really just a joke I was quoting there from the Clerks movie. Just kidding around. Even the joke makes you think about the "little" people inside these complicated worlds that never get mentioned. I mean, let's say the A New Hope Death Star was built by complicit Geonosians..It was complete by the time the Rebels blew it up? Are we saying that everyone on that DS deserved to die..That there wasn't "families" of some tech officer just out of the academy? lol It's the little stories inside the big story which can be fun from a writer's point of view...
STREAMS OF SILVER: The Legend of Drizzt Book V - Oct 14, 2007 - 06:13am
I have a friend who absolutely hates Salvatore's novels in this universe.
I love them.
It's like you say Tim, there seems to be no middle ground.
My friend hates them for the exact reason I love them. Sure, I'll take some serious sci-fi/fantasy reading when it comes but I'm also going to like the straight ass action fluff for what it is...If I want to take a time out in between some serious reading and check out Drizzt & Co. mow down nasty orcs and drow in an action oriented story, it's fine with me. These kinds of arguements always happen though within the sci-fi/fantasy community of readers. The splits over what's serious reading vs. action fluff.
Good review, Tim.
Wanted!: Writers for Live Action STAR WARS - Oct 14, 2007 - 06:00am
He owns the rights to the characters and worlds so there wouldn't be any selling going on there...but writers do get paid for their thoughts. They don't get paid enough though hence the upcoming strike. Join the WGAW, Metal. Get some representation and take the studios to task... :)
Personally, I'd love for a new story inside the universe to be around something small...something gritty...and something NOT related to Skywalkers, Jedi, etc..
It'd be fun just centering around the people that are frequently missed inside these fantastical worlds.
Sure, it's the Captain Kirk and his bridge crew (Star Trek) or Admiral Piett and his commanders (Empire Strikes Back) that get the screen time but what about the poor Joe Schmoe who does their dirty laundry and cleans up after them. Their lives are on the line as well serving aboard these ships in danger... Haha.
It's like that SW conversation in the original Clerks. All those contractors--data cable runners, plumbers & engineers-- killed while doing their jobs because of a lousy group of rebel scum.
Budget Cuts for THOR Movie? - Oct 09, 2007 - 05:43am
Actually, Marvel is the one wanting it cut down to 150 mil.
But still, is anyone thinking the same thing as me when I wrote this article?
Who in the hell put the price tag at 300 million and WHY?
Matthew Vaughn?
How the heck did someone estimate 300 million???
We know there will be scenes of Thor in his home realm but I can't believe there would be that much CGI scenes that would drive the asking price to 300 million!

John Woo's KILLER To Be Remade - Oct 09, 2007 - 05:39am
I know what you mean guys...Damn, it's not even 20 years and they're remaking a John Woo ass kicking action film???
Whiskey, the director for the remake is already announced..But I wish you were correct and Woo was involved more in it.
I'm curious if this "Killer" will feature the Beretta 92F gun..a John Woo favorite. :)

Pixar Developing JOHN CARTER OF MARS Trilogy - Oct 09, 2007 - 05:37am
Hey Klaatu,
Just letting you know that your fears may be calmed somewhat. Pixar has indicated their desire to branch out into different mediums and demographics in future projects.
The company we see as the creators of Toy Story, The Incredibles, Cars, etc could be targetting adult audiences more directly by 2012. They've indicated a need to break the mold from their normal playgrounds.
There can be no doubt that there are scantily clad ladies and blood thirsty fights in the John Carter series.
I'm surprised we've had two commenters already who have said they haven't read this sci-fi series..
Definitely recommend it, readers. This has been on the forefront of some serious contenders for over a decade now.
The fact that Pixar is already planning a trilogy (something very uncommon for them) indicates their serious nature in the series...franchise..

SF Obstacles - Oct 08, 2007 - 04:55am
Great article as usual...Even if we never get comments to read with these, I look forward to this weekly column every time.
I had a feeling they would release yet another set for Drizzt when the Orc King hit and lo and behold, it's out. I may pick it up or just wait sometime down the road.
That upcoming Harry Potter omnibus has caught my eye as well. It's definitely a cool box set.
I haven't read any of Stephen R. Donaldson's latest series but the man will always have a place in my thoughts for his Gap Cycle series.
Damn, I loved the Gap Cycle even if it was twisted reading so many years ago. Speaking of which, since their travel methods dealt with "folding space"..
I align myself with you in hoping there is at least some semblance of possibility to a tech device used in a SF book but I admit that I can be very understanding if the story itself is greatly written. If I'm happily lost into the world by the early pages, I'll bypass some of the unplausible elements in terms of ships and technical devices..Sometimes, the authors can even lessen the enjoyment by trying to explain the technical reasons behind a device and end up ignoring the reason the reader bought the book in the first place. Great story and decent characters should come first.
But yes, plausibility is a must ...otherwise it should just be called a pure "Fantasy" book and not a Sci Fi.
Any column which mentions lighthearted action fluff like Drizzt, Stephen R. Donaldson and something related to the good book with "DON'T PANIC!" across its front deserves a bang..
And speaking to our other loyal readers...Don't be so silent. I know we have a lot of readers who enjoy most of these books featured in his column. Give Pat a conversation or two even if it's a "Hey Pat, run across any horrible coverart for good SF/Fantasy books lately?" He deserves it. :)

lol Why? To piss off Jakester? :)
