The Fall of '84: Supergirl (Article) - 11/25/2014 12:49:50 PM

I was seven when this came out.  I recognized at the time the only thing I liked about the movie was Helen Slater.  I liked Helen Slater because I wanted to do things with her, that a seven year old boy couldn't quite explain.

Today I can recognize that Helen Slater was one of the few good things about this movie and not just because she's easy on the eyes.  Though she is.

I wish they had done better than this and DC had better do better, or I'm going to have to get involved.  There is no reason why a female superhero cannot make it. It's disgusting how hypocritical hollywood is.  They just want the 'easy' buck and want to let us know how progressive they are all while selling us the mysogonistic lies and bullshit that a female superhero can be compelling or doesn't work.

Don't know what I'd do...write a script.  Direct a movie.  Act.  I could totally be Supergirl.

The Fall of '84: Night of the Comet (Article) - 11/18/2014 9:21:00 AM

Hell, I was seven and I remember thinking those actresses were pretty hot.  Still do.  Catherine Mary Stewart?  Yeah, man.

She needs to come back in the Last Starfighter sequel and kick some butt.

What?!  I'm holding out hope for a sequel.  Maggie's revenge.

I loved watching that on HBO when I was a kid.

The Fall of '84: Missing in Action (Article) - 11/17/2014 11:58:08 AM

I admit your review pissed me off until the end.  I agree with you in the end.

I don't think Platoon would have been as accepeted if we hadn't started with the insanity of movies like Missing in Action or First Blood.  Or perhaps the sequels to First Blood.

First Blood could have been a brilliant start to the conversation -had they stuck with the original ending and not turned Rambo into a cartoon...litterally and figurativley.

There was a movement in the 80's to reconize the wrongs perputated on on our soldiers in Vietnam and afterwards, that I really think owes a lot to the movies of the era.  The fact that the US as a nation, led by our government swept them under the rug and pretended the war didn't happen after they got back and that everything was fine, when it sure as hell wasn't, fine.

I think glorified revenge porn flicks like Missing in Action, Rambo and movies like The Destroyers (IMDB has it as The Devestator) helped ease that need for payback on some visceral level.

Movies like Platoon, Full Metal Jacket and eventually Apocolypse Now (which may be an example of coming too early to the game) finally helped get a dialogue going that would help many come to terms of the horrors and disservices that were perpurtrated on those who served.

Most of us who grew up in the 80's knew people who had been affected by Vietnam, it is saddening that it took years after the end of the war for the dialouge to really be started on the condition of our vets.

Makes my butt hurt just thinking about it.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 %u2013 Clip #2 (Article) - 11/10/2014 9:34:46 AM

If they can make the movies better than the book, it might be a good effort.  This was definetly my least favorite of the three books and really after the build up of the second one, it was a real let down.

As far as Jennifer Lawrence making any claim about those photos hurting her career.  Man, that ain't the point.  That was a flagrant and despicable invasion of her privacy and nobody has a right to see those pictures that she doesn't want to see them.

She was right, it is a sex crime.  Maybe not legally, but it should be.
