WHITE HOUSE DOWN: Official Trailer

Did we not just have this movie?

By Robert T. Trate     May 10, 2013
Source: Sony Pictures Releasing UK

To be honest with you Maniacs, I was sort of ignoring White House Down. Call it my prejudice against Channing Tatum or because we just had Olympus Has Fallen, but it is true. I was ignoring the news and trailers. Well I broke down and watched the trailer and it looks like fun. A perfect Summer Movie with a great cast mixed with action and humor.  Yet, when I saw it was directed by Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, Stargate, Godzilla) the prejudice came right back. What are your thoughts on this flick, Tatum, and Emmerich? Are we ready for another Die Hard set at the White House? For some reason this one reminds me of Under Siege 2: Dark Territory

Synopsis: In Columbia Pictures' White House Down, Capitol Policeman John Cale (Channing Tatum) has just been denied his dream job with the Secret Service of protecting President James Sawyer (Jamie Foxx). Not wanting to let down his little girl with the news, he takes her on a tour of the White House, when the complex is overtaken by a heavily armed paramilitary group. Now, with the nation's government falling into chaos and time running out, it's up to Cale to save his daughter, the president, and the country. The film is directed by Roland Emmerich, written by James Vanderbilt, and produced by Bradley J. Fischer, Harald Kloser, James Vanderbilt, Larry Franco, and Laeta Kalogridis. Executive Producers are Ute Emmerich, Channing Tatum and Reid Carolin.

White House Down arrives June 28th, 2013.

Yeah this looks like fun.  I got no problem with Emmerich, Tatum, or Foxx.  And yes we did see this basic plot already this year with Olympus Has Fallen, but what the hell, Mr. Trate is right, this looks like decent summer fun.  I'm in.

Zilla...you have redeemed yourself with the new avatar...please keep this one.  :)

Another Channing Tatum movie....yawn...Yes please let me spend 10 bucks on his 2 dimensional acting...if that.

Feeling like we may have just watched the whole movie.

... Again.

 I'm just gonna say it-

this looks bad.

Olympus was better, and Fallen is not even out yet.

Can't see Foxx as Prez. Could see Eckhart as Prez.

Can't see Tatum with messed up 'do as SS agent. Could see Butler as SS Agent.

Emmerich directs. So there will be caricatures, not characters.

And yet this will get more play than Olympus.

Savin my ten bucks for something else....

Well, to be fair he isn't a SS agent. Apparently they thought the same thing, MovieGuy. The only movie I like Tatum in - surprisingly - is Magic...Kidding.  It's actually 21 Jumpstreet.

2013 is not the year you want to be president in movies or tv. Bull Pullman put back on his president suit in the now recently canceled 1600 Penn in which that show was deemed bad comedy. While the president in Rise of Cobra was already in peril, it didn't get any better for him in G.I.Joe: Retaliation and notice Channing was asleep at the wheel in the first film where the president was taken so not a good track record so far.

In Olympus Has Fallen, Aaron Eckhart had it rough, but atleast he was defiant for the most part as that was the most heat a president had been in since Harrison Ford in Air Force One. William Sadler in the current IronMan 3 was constantly being punked by The Mandarin, then screwed over by his own Vice President in Miguel Ferrer. Though its rather funny with two underrated solid actors, known for playing seedy characters in roles where they had a habit of going against authority in the past.

And now Channing once again hanging around another president with Jamie Foxx in White House Down. But this is Roland Emmerich and he clearly has NEVER liked Washington. He had it out for Pullman in ID4, but Pullman laughed in the face of danger and lived. Perry King was just another victimized president in The Day After Tomorrow and had a quiet death off-screen while Danny Glover got it the worse being annihilated by a giant tidal wave and the John F Kennedy carrier ship in 2012. If I were Foxx, I would have said, "Hell No" playing a president with Emmerich and Tatum around to give him fits.
