Top 10 Werewolf Movies - Nov 21, 2008 - 08:21am
An American Werewolf in London is MY pick for "Best of All-Time". It combined humor(loads of it....remember the Zoo scene?), gore(and man was this film gorey!!), and had Jenny Agutter(super sexy '70's babe still looking good from Logans Run!). The transformation sequence is still one of the best done for this kind of film. Rick Baker's makeup was astonishing, and even the LOOK of the werewolf was incredible! And seeing Griffin Dunne's character(Jack) slowly decompose onscreen was both funny and sickening! The Best! I liked Silver Bullet. Scary. Great acting. Corey Haim was still "acting", before he turned to hard core drugs. And Gary Busey was sober long enough to potray a good character as the "cool uncle", like the article said. The Howling was both weird and scary. I liked the "wolf vision" perspective they came up with(or am I thinking of Wolfen?). Speaking of Wolfen, I'm surprised that's not on the list!    And then there's the Jack Nicholson piece, Wolf(1994). Jack as a Werewolf is scary enough for me!!!!!

Wessmith1966, PLEASE tell me you're kidding about a remake of Forbidden Planet! PLEASE!!! That is quite possibly the greatest sci-fi film of all-time, and it doesn't deserve to be remade into something like what they are doing to TDTESS! Noooooooo!!!!! Ok, anyway, that was my "classic sci-fi lover" side screaming, but I too have heard the rumors about it. What I can't understand is the need to take films like TDTESS and Forbidden Planet or any of those classics and re-imagine them. Wasn't Tim Burton's re-imagining of  Planet of the Apes reason enough NOT to do it? These movies were made during different times, and their stories worked, THEN, and don't  apply today, or it takes too much "change" to make it work. Look at I Am Legend. To me, that is one of the worst films ever made, and yet it's based off of and is a remake of one of my favorite 70's sci-fi flicks, The Omega Man. Sure, TOM is dated, has some 70's motif that isn't relavant today, etc., and it too is a remake of Last Man on Earth but it is a great movie and a fun film to watch. Like Soylent Green! Another Chuck Heston classic!  I just don't see the need to remake all these classics, except that Hollywood has lost its ability to write anything original anymore! So they feel it's necessary to "remake" or "re-imagine" classics and modernize the FX. Whoopty-do-dah-day!!! They don't NEED that treatment! Forbidden Planet still looks amazing for a film that is 50+ years old! Like what we see in the trailers for TDTESS, it's all about Gee-Wiz FX, and "shock" factor of what the "aliens" do to us. Again, as I said before, it's like seeing Independence Day, but retitled to The Day The Earth Stood Still. It's not based off the original story as seen in the classic film. And it has Keanu.....whose only decent piece of acting was in Speed. THAT is why I hate this remake, and will NEVER see it. Period! If they remake Forbidden Planet, and it's done like TDTESS, I will avoid it too.....hell, I'll avoid it simply on principle of the fact it DOESN'T need a remake/re-imagining. DO the movie they did, sure, but call it something else....like "Silver Sphere Invasion" or something. Not The Day The Earth Stood Still.

Screw this remake! The original TDTESS is one of the all-time great sci-fi classics. This is a remake in NAME ONLY. Keanu as the lead role in what WAS an intelligent, thinking mans sci-fi? HAH! And from what we see of the previews, the producers should have just called this Independence Day 2. Give me a frackin' break! They ruined The Andromeda Strain(1971) with that silly, stupid, poorly acted remake, and now they are taking one of the Holy Grails of sci-fi and messing it up too. So when do we see a remake of Forbidden Planet? I mean, if they are going to take a classic like TDTESS and "Hollywood-ise" it, why stop there, right?Jeeez, no wonder I don't go to movies any more. I'll stay home, pop in my CLASSICS and enjoy them better than what Hollywood pumps out now. What a JOKE!!!!!!!!
