Bonham Carter Returns for HALF BLOOD PRINCE - Sep 04, 2007 - 12:31am
*SIGH*
Just because she is married to Burton, doesn't mean that he's the only reason she gets parts.
Take a look at her career BEFORE Burton... she was already on the rise and becoming well known for being a character actress a'la Gary Oldman.
Face the facts... she'd have (and had) a good career without Burton.
Robert K. Shaye says "The Hobbit" in 2009 - Feb 19, 2007 - 05:45pm
First let me say, when did all the children begin logging into this site? Can I get an opinion out of someone over the age of 25 here?
Please calm down and stop trolling/flaming/hating. It is childish and has no place here.
Now my opinion--Every person that I have talked to who have seen the films but never even picked up a Tolkien book were very impressed with the movies. In many cases, it prompted them to even go out and BUY the books and actually read them.
In all honesty, being a fan of great literature (and LoTR falls in that category), I was expecting a complete bumbling of these films... after all, Peter Jackson had NO experience with this type of movie.
I was completely surprised at how well it turned out. Indeed, some stuff could have been shortened and some other decisions could have been made to shorten the lengths of each of the films. However, to say that it could have been in a single film is simply ignorance of the content of the books. If you understand the time period when these books were written and released, then perhaps you can begin to grasp the nature and themes of the works themselves. Even in 3-hour chunks, much of this was not conveyed.
Regardless, these movies are proof, in and of themselves, of their place in cinematic history.
As for a Hobbit film, I agree that a rush job would spell disaster for the film... it would probably do well in the B.O., simply because of the name, but would probably get panned right out of the gate. I'm sure that given proper time to lay this out and plan it, a good director can make this into a great film.
