Harrison Ford Open to a Fifth INDIANA - Apr 17, 2008 - 03:51am
I agree with ponyboy. I would also venture that this movie is going to have the Phantom Menace Effect, making a lot of money even if it's awful.
INDY IV Premiering at Cannes - Feb 29, 2008 - 03:48am
I may be the only one who cares, but does anyone know when the novelization comes out?
CLONE WARS Hitting Theaters First - Feb 12, 2008 - 03:39am
I have no problem continuing into my 30's to give George Lucas at least 10% of every paycheck in one way or another. That just seems to be the way life is and I've gotten used to it. For me the problem here is that I just don't care about cartoons. I still haven't bothered to see the first Clone Wars cartoon (although I hear it's really good). So bring on the live action -- or at least the live actors surrounded by CG aliens and environments.
Sly Remaking Bronson's MECHANIC? - Feb 07, 2008 - 03:48am
I thought Get Carter was great. I'm glad to see Stallone working again. I'm a little hesitant about the reports that he'll be doing another Rocky. Rocky Balboa was so redeeming, I'd hate to see him turn out another Rocky V and have to quit on that.
New Photo for INDY IV Appears Online - Feb 03, 2008 - 07:33am
mckracken - Thanks for the answer. I don't know where I was; I must have missed that whole thing.
New Photo for INDY IV Appears Online - Feb 02, 2008 - 07:18am
Who says that tight shot of Indy standing on some wooden boxes is in the government warehouse from "Raiders?" Is that speculation based on anything other than the photo?
John Hurt Talks INDY 4 - Dec 23, 2007 - 06:21am
joeybaloney, Your equality would have to be:
joeybaloney - .99 = Satanic Rites of Dracula Titties > joeybaloney
Since no one's actually paying you not to buy it; you're just in the same position you were before you bought it. It'd be nice if we could get paid to avoid bad movies though.
Greenwood Talks CAPTAIN PIKE Role - Nov 15, 2007 - 06:00am
Well that's not really fair that your take is the last one we have to sit through, Jarrod... But I think you made some good points. And I actually read your whole comment. Normally I skip over comments that run that long, which demonstrates that I agree with you: everyone has an opinion and it's not always news.
I don't mean to change the subject, but did anyone see the theatrical presentation of the Original Series episode "The Menagerie" on Tuesday night? Tonight is the encore presentation.
STAR TREK:TOS Episode Hits Theaters - Oct 22, 2007 - 05:18am
I like this idea, and I understand they chose "The Menagerie" because it is the only two-part episode from the original series, but come on... The episode plays like Star Trek: The Motion Picture...boring. There are so many better choices; they could play two different episodes back to back to achieve an event length.
Fox Techs Up for DIE HARD 4 - Oct 17, 2007 - 05:10am
I'm also a little irritated by the ad that's blocking the article...
Spielberg Talks INDY 4 & TRANSFORMERS 2 - Oct 10, 2007 - 05:19am
Thanks, popa. I'm only half Harrison's age, but every year it gets a little harder to stay in the same shape. Nevertheless, I refuse to ever quit. Your comment was good to see.
Lucas has said for years that it's okay this movie has taken so long to get made because Harrison is one of those people who it doesn't matter how old they are; he'll always kick butt. I think that's true, so it doesn't surprise me about the stunts.
INDIANA JONES Deals with Robbery - Oct 03, 2007 - 05:57am
I'm not a big fan of Indy having a son either, but that's just because I want the focus and the action to stay on Harrison. I don't care how old he is, I want to see him bust up some Nazis (or I guess Russians this time). Hopefully this movie will take the Star Trek II approach where the aging action hero meets his grown son who he neglected because he was too busy with his adventures, and the son followed his own path, trying to avoid becoming like his father...
'Jason' Confirmed for FRIDAY THE 13th Remake - Oct 02, 2007 - 06:09am
I would much rather see another Nightmare on Elm Street movie. I don't see all the news that comes out, but it seems like New Line won't even talk about that until this Friday the 13th movie is done. Once upon a time there was talk of a Nightmare prequel that sounded very interesting.
TERMINATOR 4 Arrives in 2009 - Sep 26, 2007 - 05:46am
That was a very cheap shot at Mark Hamill. I think the reason the prequels aren't as good is because directing actors is not Lucas's strongpoint. The fact that the original Star Wars succeeds in spite of that direction is a real tribute to the actors, Mark Hamill included. In Empire he spends half the movie talking to a green puppet and somehow manages to make us believe that puppet is alive...
Lucas Details Both STAR WARS Shows - Sep 21, 2007 - 09:28am
Jarrod, is this page cut together out of sequence? The questions make no sense in the order they're in... Lucas starts out talking about the cartoon, saying it takes place between Episodes II and III. The next question asks where the cartoon takes place relative to the movies. Lucas skips over that and segues into a description of the live action show, followed immediately by "what about the live-action series?" The next question isn't clear which show they're taking about (although I think they're back on the cartoon), and then I just gave up and stopped reading...
Checkov is Cast for STAR TREK XI - Aug 08, 2007 - 06:04am
I assumed Chekov wasn't on the list because he's about ten to 15 years younger than Kirk. That means this guy has to be about 13 years old. Is he?
That aside, McCoy was never "danger-loving," Uhura was anything but "tom-boyish," and Sulu was very disciplined, not much of a "wildcat."
I like the idea of putting Star Trek in the hands of people who aren't really familiar with it because it gives a fresh perspective, but maybe they shouldn't be doing established characters.
Leonard Nimoy in STAR TREK XI - Jul 10, 2007 - 05:38am
This Star Trek XI "news" changes every day with no regard for what was reported as "news" before it. I thought it was already confirmed Shatner and Nimoy would both be in it...? Anyway, if they want my $8 all they have to give me is those two guys. They can be in their Star Fleet uniforms acting out a script in Shatner's living room with '60s-style special effects for all I care. Those two guys (and the late DeForest Kelley) are and have always been the important element.

New Line Drops MEG Movie - Jul 06, 2007 - 05:25am
I read the book years ago. It was awful. I don't blame New Line a bit for letting it die. Billion dollar franchise, Alten called it? There's already a low-budget version of this movie at the video store, called Megaladon, and another I can't even remember the name of. It's been done over and over, and MEG wasn't even the best rendition.
The Odd One Out - Apr 09, 2007 - 05:23am
They run out of money? Is that the best you can come up with? Come on... Like the toys you're describing, I think this article was written by a preschooler. Now I just feel cheated out of five minutes of my morning. By the way, "waist" as it is in the last paragraph should be "waste."
Ray Winstone joins "Indiana Jones 4" - Mar 28, 2007 - 05:18am
I thought if someone had to be designated as Indy's sidekick it would have been Marcus Brody (Denholm Elliot), and he's not around anymore. Maybe this guy's going to fill that role.
"Halloween" wraps shooting - Mar 24, 2007 - 10:31am
I've never been able to get too excited about the Halloween movies, and by the description of this one, how's it any different than the others? What I did really like was madmanic's "grandma" comment. I never heard that before and it made me laugh. Thanks.
"Star Trek XI" Casting and Release Date - Feb 28, 2007 - 05:34am
Somebody does the Kaaahn! thing on every Star Trek report...Karl should just add that as part of the news to get it out of the way. All of these actors are too old to play the characters in their "academy days." Matt Damon is about the age Shatner was in the original series when he was already a captain. One of the obstacles the original cast had to deal with, particularly in the later movies, was the absurdity of sixty-year-old men trying to run around as space heroes. It would be equally absurd to have a 35-year-old guy as an academy cadet. "Galloping around the cosmos is a game for the young, Doctor." It also doesn't make any sense from a business perspective to reestablish a franchise with actors (at least Damon) who haven't hit rock bottom, and therefore certainly won't return for fifty sequels.
"Indiana Jones 4" coming May 22, 2008 - Feb 06, 2007 - 05:52am
If Rocky's still swinging at 60, Indy will be fine. In Last Crusade Harrison was about eight years older than Indy was supposed to be.
Note: Ponyboy - The word is "albeit." It's one word, means "although."
James McAvoy joins "Star Trek XI"? - Jan 26, 2007 - 10:01am
KJ - James Doohan didn't have a Scottish accent in real life, nor did Walter Koenig have a Russian one, so I doubt Paramount's relying too heavily on that as a factor for casting. WhiteKnight - Some of the dialog in the earlier films suggests that the three seasons we saw on T.V. were in fact the last three years of the five year mission, not the first, so that space has already been filled. But that's not the point. Paramount doesn't care about filling in a timeline; they care about making Star Trek profitable again. The best way to do that is to get actors like this guy who are relatively unknown and try to fill in a good story using the familiar elements. As fans we just have to get over that fact that no, up until now they really didn't know each other back then. As far as Damon as Kirk, what if this film really is successful? Is Damon going to keep coming back to make more Star Trek sequels?
"Indy 4" News - Jan 23, 2007 - 05:50am
Maybe ponyboy's on to something here. Since Harrison's getting pretty old to play Indiana Jones they're going to surround him by dinosaurs to make him appear relatively young. That's fine with me; I don't care how old he is. They could have 75-year-old William Shatner playing the young Captain Kirk in the new Star Trek movie too and I'd be fine with that. It's all about the familiar element.
"Lady in the Water" nominated for a Razzie - Jan 23, 2007 - 05:37am
Nobody was happier than me to see Shyamalan crash and burn with Lady in the Water. I had written him off as a one hit wonder by his second movie. I was wrong. Lady in the Water was engaging and original. I don't know who the Worst Supporting Actor is for, but Paul Giomatti and Bryce Howard were fantastic. The most persistent criticism of the movie was that Shyamalan just made up his own mythological folklore. Is that not allowed? Anyway, as much as we would fault him for that, the movie relied heavily on common themes. What scared kid's imagination hasn't come up with something similar to a scrunt (the wolf-like creatures that hide in the grass)? Maybe the problem really is that expectations are just too high for the guy, but no matter what, the best he's ever going to be able to come up with is another movie. I thought this one was pretty good.
"Superman Returns" sequel: Shorter, tighter, action-packed - Jan 17, 2007 - 05:19am
My problem with Superman Returns was just like ponyboy said, it was a rehash of the original movie that just wasn't quite as good. Shorter, tighter and more action-packed is definitely the way to go. I didn't like the kid either, but because the character of Superman is kind of flat (no pun intended on my name) there has to be some element of personal torment and conflict for him to make it interesting.
William Shatner talks "Star Trek XI" - Jan 11, 2007 - 05:18am
I think most Star Trek fans are content to agree that the garbage that was Generations (and pretty much everything Rick Berman did with the series) never really happened. The rest won't know the difference, so everyone's happy.
"MEG" Getting a Green Light? - Jan 01, 2007 - 10:54am
I read Steve Alten's book years ago, and although cruel, SlamShut is absolutely right. The only thing remotely worthwhile about that book is the concept (i.e. a very, very big shark wrecks havoc). It was anti-climatic with generally poor writing. It is a waste for New Line to invest in that particular franchise.
I agree with ponyboy. I would also venture that this movie is going to have the Phantom Menace Effect, making a lot of money even if it's awful.
