CLOVERFIELD - Jan 19, 2008 - 07:02pm
Saw this movie on Friday...As I sat there watching what I will say was the best movie I have seen in a good long while, I mean it was no There Will Be Blood...but then it doesnt have to be, I noticed people...there were people who were totally into the movie...and then there were people who left feeling ill. And then there were people who just could not stand not being told everything. And I can see each persons view on this. Not everyone followed the viral marketing or knew about it. So they missed out on some explanations. Some people cannot stand shaky cam...I dont like it but found it didnt hurt in this movie. And then there were those people who were just into it...totally...I felt stunned when it ended. People complained about how it just abruptly ended...I thought it was brilliant as thats how it really started with the creature just announcing to NY Hey guys I am here and I am going to have fun. The creature was pretty damn cool and I do have to say...I am a Big G fan...and this monster really impressed me. The acting I thought was pretty good...nothing amazing...but not bad either. I did find myself liking the characters and that is something you ususalliy dont get in these kinds of movies. If this movie cost only 25 Mil not including marketing ...I have to say this. Why the hell do movies cost so much to make? I mean looking at Cloverfield..the effects were really nice....and it didnt have a cast of hundred and hundreds like Lord of the Rings. Could it be...and this is only a guess..that smart film making may actually pay off for Paramount? Even if there is never another Cloverfield...this has to show that movie budgets can be brought under control. And that worthwhile films can be made and actually turn profits without being mega hits.

SUPERMAN on Hold, JLA Trouble Continues - Jan 12, 2008 - 03:35pm
I loved Superman Returns...but it could have used a super villian. I am tired of Luthor this and Luthor that. However..I think Routh was the right choice to play Superman...and I agree that Singer has a great Superman Film in him. But I will say this for Luthor in Returns...at least he had competent henchmen.
