This is my first review here at Mania, so be kind. I went and saw this movie today and had no idea what it was about, except for the ads on t.v. I had no expectations, and boy I'm glad that I didn't. I love fantasy movies, but man this one was a bit painful to stomach. I won't give away spoilers, so it will be hard to explain. Seeing Robert De Niro in such a role was unexpected. I feel pretty, oh so pretty! Not that there's anything wrong with that.
I guess the effects were good, but every crappy movie today has good effects. I am a bit weary to see "Golden Compass", "Spiderwick Chronicles", or even "The Dark is Rising", after seeing this film. Hopefully they will be better. This movie tries to be "The Princess Bride", but it's not even close. After leaving the theater I could only think of two words to sum up this movie, and if I may quote the wisdom of the Geico Caveman,
"AHH WHAT"?
