I'm guessing Alan Moore can't be too happy about this.
Things like this is what keeps bringing people back.
zalder, I agree with you to a point. I don't mind they have to leave some things out or give a smaller character a bigger role to make up for someone they can't bring on for budget reasons. What I don't like is changing the plot...stick with the books as much as they can is what I say. Look how well it worked in the first season....when you stick to the source material you can add useless characters like this whore Ros. Personally I would have prefered they put the blackfish or someone like that in there instead of making up a nothing character like Ros but it didn't bother me in the first season because they stayed very close to the books.
Havent seen it yet but will eventually over the next few weeks but everyone I know says it's great. I'm curious how much of those totals are 3D? Don't knock the fact that 3D has made these totals impossible to gauge. I would be more curious what the number of tickets sold are vs what TDK did.
hanso, first I've heard that. I would agree it's a sad day if true but the guy is 57, he'll be in his early 60s by timed he is done with Avatar so he will most likely be leaving Hollywood on top of his game. I still think back to an interview I saw with him where he states he wanted to dive to Titanic more than he wanted to make the movie so if he wants to retire and focus on more diving and going to Mars I say more power to him...and his documentaries will be just as great. The one he did for discovery channel on the battleship bismark was outstanding.
This shouldn't surprise anyone. J.J. doesn't understand ST so he's going to keep rebooting every movie. I don't like the pick for Khan but whatcha gonna do?
That was EPIC! This is going to go down as one of the greatest movie trilogies. I'm glad they cleaned up Bane's voice.
Wow, comics to movie budgets or profits? I've said this before, this is the PERFECT topic for Mania to do a seperate article about. No one out there takes the time to educate the movie audience on how everything makes or doesn't make money so they go off what is seen. Honestly I would like to stay on comics but this is an interesting discussion.
As I understand it, Joel is correct. You need to add another 30% or so to the reported budget because studios don't report everything including marketing. I may be wrong on this but I've read that Domestic studios take home 55% of the profit and 45% overseas so you are not making as much overseas as you think which is why they are pushing 3D like they are over there. And last, studios don't take into consideration DVD sales or rentals when they release these on the big screen. I think it's safe to say, if it's a modest hit or box office smash it will do well on DVD otherwise you don't know until it's on the shelf. I do think they consider toys especially if it's something like a comic book movie but how much a thought that makes into the profit I do not know.
I'm in the minority on this side, I thought 2nd movie was great. Only complaint was that Tron was under used.

It's been a while since I saw the doc on this movie but wasn't Hampton released and Peoples was brought in to replace him? Hampton didn't like the changes they were making to his script at the time...I think. Like I said it's been a whlie since I've seen the making of BR.
Besides, they are just in talks and in Hollywood that could translate into development hell. Until Ridley finally says they are shooting I'm not getting my hopes up. Don't forget Ridley Scott is in his mid 70's so who knows how long he'll keep making movies. Sucks to get old as I'm learning but it really sucks when there really isn't another Scott type of film maker in the pipeline right now to replace him.
