Director Yates Talks Intro of HALF BLOOD PRINCE - Jul 03, 2008 - 02:05pm
Haha Beagle, I forgot all about the pole dancing from Ginny. Thanks for the reminder. :)
Btw, HBP is one film. They're splitting up Deathly Hallows into two films because Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert, Emma and the producers don't want to omit anything from the final book. No cuts for that one so split it into two films.
Which sorta contributes to our discussion. Totally agree, Tbones. Saying the same thing from this comfy quarterback couch over here. Insert Dobby a few times starting with HBP. Even if it's minor scenes, it gives a reference.
I'm not sure if they'll even do Bill. Doubt it...Bill and Charlie don't exist in the movies.
Dave Legeno will play Fenrir Greyback...so his character is still in the films.
New Trailer for Jane's MUTANT CHRONICLES - Jul 03, 2008 - 11:53am
Let's keep the commentary directed to the Mutant Chronicles trailer, guys.
No more jokes from 40 Year Old Virgin which could be misconstrued from people who haven't seen that movie.
Thanks,
J
Director Yates Talks Intro of HALF BLOOD PRINCE - Jul 03, 2008 - 11:37am
Agreed. They could probably make their way around Bill and Fleur's wedding. Perhaps turn it into Lupin and Tonk's wedding?
But man...Bill is a great character in the books...I wish they would do some Dobby cameos though. Just have him say "hi" and "bye" before Deathly Hallows. As it is now, movie audiences (who don't read the books) haven't seen him since Movie 2.
lol No Reason. I just don't remember trains of THAT kind in the 8th book. I could be mistaken. Which book had Mr. Potter dressing like a Emo, doing Saturday Night Fever dancing in the streets of London and singing in a bar before slapping Ginny? Perhaps, I'm the one getting the 8th and 9th novels confused.
Millar Will Deliver New Pitch for SUPERMAN - Jul 03, 2008 - 10:24am
You're right. I knew it was something on the tip of my tongue since as I said in today's Potter news, I'm rereading the series and am halfway through the Goblet book.
Thanks!
Though, you have to admit, it would need to be a certain type of execution on the director's part to avoid MPAA's wrath here. Cedric eating dirt was done so quick in the movie that the board probably passed on severe judging.
If they show Luthor killing a child in a certain way, the MPAA will come down hard.
(Not that I agree with any of you haters that the boy needs to die. It's just interesting to think about. lol)
Millar Will Deliver New Pitch for SUPERMAN - Jul 03, 2008 - 09:17am
I can't remember the last PG or PG-13 movie I saw where someone's boy died at the hands of a villain. Can anyone help me out here? This will bother me throughout the day trying to find an example.
Because WB will want to keep the sequel PG-13 at least, not R.
Everyone already knows my thoughts. As for the news above, I say what I believe in tomorrow's rumor column. But as I say, you already know my thoughts.
As Monkey suggests in Comment #10, I think Millar's fanboyism is getting the better of him here. lol As Wise suggests in Comment #8, if Millar keeps it up, I'm sure someone from WB or Singer will tell him in no so certain terms to be quiet.
Unless, of course, Millar is messing with us here and Singer himself invited Millar into the sequel's planning stage.
Director Yates Talks Intro of HALF BLOOD PRINCE - Jul 03, 2008 - 09:06am
I think you mean the 9th book, fft. :)
Rereading the series at the moment because I don't have any new purchases to occupy my reading time..About halfway through Goblet, which is basically where around the time the movies severly split off from novels.
Sure, Alfonso split somewhat in PoA but man, the fourth and fifth movies were hard to include a lot due to Rowling writing longer novels.
I liked what Yates did with OotP but I really wish they included Dobby, a more thorough explanation of the prophecy and a longer finale at the Ministry. If they did, I would have had less to explain to my sister who wants to read the novels but hasn't yet.
The directors need to explain the important details a bit better for fans who haven't read the novels yet.
But I definitely look forward to seeing what Yates does with HBP. (They better include Dobby..even in a minor 1 minute scene).
Dobby, Bill...Fleur....These omissions from the movies has me wondering about future scenes in the Deathly Hallows.
IMAX Bank Scene from DARK KNIGHT - Jul 03, 2008 - 08:59am
"....but someone needs to take this clip out I haven't gotten any work done today."--Hanso
And NOW, you know my master plan! Muhahahaha
....
Or perhaps, I just wanted to enter the July 4th holiday by passing along a bad ass clip, thanks to Wiseguy's friend. :)
Striking Gold! Writer/director Guillermo del Toro - Jul 01, 2008 - 12:55am
As my avatar photo suggests, I'm definitely looking forward to this sequel. Del Toro won my respect a long time ago and I'm looking forward to see how well he travels through middle earth. Same goes for the Frankenstein remake though I'm curious how he's going to find time for that one. Will it be as a director or as an executive producer?
He's got a busy schedule but he can do it.
Box Office: WALL-E Victorious But WANTED Strikes Hard - Jun 30, 2008 - 04:43am
I still have Grindhouse flashbacks too. We (online media) had that marketing machine moving in hype mode for a few months (almost a year prior). Well, we know what happened.
Then again, The Dark Knight isn't going to be a hard R rating like Grindhouse.
But still...Grindhouse went up against 3 wide PG-to-PG13 1 hr and 30 minute family movies on Easter Weekend 2007. It failed.
The Dark Knight is going up against what...6 wide releases in the family dynamic territory...likely with shorter running times?
No, I'm not saying The Dark Knight is going to fail like The Grindhouse. I loved Grindhouse and was pissed that it failed but there are some major differences between the two. It's not a hard R and BB gathered a lot of fans. It also has a lot of people curious about Heath Ledger's last true full performance.
The Dark Knight will do very well. But overall, let's see how it can perform against so much demographics before we predict the box office.
As Wise, I believe, said in an article last week...It's becoming that the only $300.0 mil markers are the ones released in May now. The studios are releasing too many stacked schedules from June-August to even have a shot in the summer seasons.
But we shall see. I may be proven wrong in the next few weeks. I almost half hope that I am! I'll put on my "Idiot" cap then. :)
Bonham Carter Joining TERMINATOR SALVATION - Jun 30, 2008 - 04:14am
Well, technically Johnny Depp and Christian Bale are indeed about to be in the same movie. That Michael Mann thriller about the true Untouchables, Public Enemies. Depp is John Dillinger, Bale is the F.B.I Golden Boy Melvin Purvis after him. Should be hitting theaters next year.
Oh...and never mix Jager and Guiness. Or Crown Royal and Apple Juice. I still can't believe you escaped custody twice in one night. Bale (aka Batman aka John Connor aka Melvin Purvis) will be hunting after you next if you keep that streak going.
Box Office: WALL-E Victorious But WANTED Strikes Hard - Jun 30, 2008 - 04:02am
Oh, I understand totally where you're coming from, Evil Beagle.
It's why The Matrix went where it was destined to go.
Hype.
It's also why I was highly amused from the opening intro of Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The fourth film took 19 years to make. Steven Spielberg and executive producer George Lucas began that intro with the same imagery against any hype machine..
As in... "People, don't make a movie out of a mole hill (prairie dog hill)."
In the end...Sometimes, the hype machine has everyone's expectations way too high.
I LOVED Batman Begins. But people here already know my thoughts. There's three wide releases on July 11, 2008. There's three wide releases on July 18, 2008. X-Files 2 follows up on July 25, 2008.
There's way too much demographic competition. If Dark Knight becomes the highest grosser of 2008 and earns 9,999,999 Gazillion dollars as Hanso says, by all means, I will start out a box office report with "Hanso is the effing bomb!". Same goes for earlier predictions that "Knight" hits the $300.0 mil mark by the third weekend of release. I'll begin said BOR with admitting my goofyness at not being a believer. But man, there's just way too much demographic competition in the month of July for me to drink the koolaid. :)
Del Toro Reveals Preference for FRANKENSTEIN - Jun 30, 2008 - 03:47am
True, I almost put that in the article above..
As in..
"How the hell does Del Toro expect to do a Frankenstein movie when he's in middle earth for the next four years?!?"
But I'll say it here below. Perhaps, he means to lead the production for Universal Pictures as an executive producer rather than a director. Whatever the case, he is really behind a Frankenstein remake. Dude's been excited about it for years and Universal has given him the project fully...to produce or to direct.
Perhaps, he'll somehow find time between The Hobbit 1 and The Hobbit 2?
I know...I know, even that's doubtful.
Bonham Carter Joining TERMINATOR SALVATION - Jun 30, 2008 - 03:44am
How the hell did you get involved in TWO barfights and not get arrested? Man, you ran the gauntlet!
And if Johnny Depp gets casted in Terminator Salvation 2 or 3....Well....I bet Tim Burton is really directing the sequel after McG, whether it was your drunken fantasy or not. I mean, come on....Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp appearing in the same movie? Has to be Burton directing!
Mark Millar Still Loves SUPERMAN - Jun 29, 2008 - 11:23pm
Wow! Nice to see you enjoy the column too. I like writing it up but it's been slow feedback for it.
This weekend was my error. I wrote one up and published it Saturday morning. But Sunday morning, I accidentally deleted it and I didn't have a saved copy on my computer. I thought about writing another one up for fun this evening but it would already be pushed out of sight since I have the Box Office report and latest news coming in.
But I'm glad I have a fellow fan of the article. Stay tuned next week for a blast from the past, Wise!
Oh...and I'm on the right side in terms of SR. :)
Mark Millar Still Loves SUPERMAN - Jun 29, 2008 - 11:37am
From what happened last October, Wiseguy, it seems to be one of those "under the table unspoken agreements" between the two major competitors that if an author is contracted to write comics for one, he can't be involved in movies for the other.
Hence the fanboy flame up late last year where Millar goes "I have a pitch for Superman!" and then gets flatly denied by DC and WB.
But times change...Maybe DC and WB have changed their minds here...
So, it's not an "exclusive" but it's still an "exclusive" in some executives' minds.
I know, it seems rather silly. At least, that's my opinion. If someone is passionate about a character as Millar is clearly for Superman, I don't think he should be denied just because he's doing some Marvel comics.
Oh....and I still think SR is a great movie. But then...that's only one opinion. Nice to see you over here in the corner with me AlmostUnbiased and fellow SR fans. :)
Mark Millar Still Loves SUPERMAN - Jun 28, 2008 - 12:33am
Well.....Superman Returns rocks....It's not a turd. That's for sure. At least that's the humble opinions of me and Merin these past few years.
SR was one of the best "superhero" flicks of the past few years, no matter the haters.
And yep...Bryan Singer is still currently in charge of Superman: Man of Steel.
We shall see what Wanted does, Hanso and Gang.....Personally, it's going up against Pixar's Wall-E. I say it finishes without a shot.
But Millar is an exciteable person...hence his "Wanted 2" talk earlier this week. We shall see on Sunday's Box Office Report. :)
First Teaser Poster for SAW V - Jun 27, 2008 - 09:12pm
lol I have an idea. After all, I've been here for 11 years at Cinescape and Mania...I've seen my fair share of disturbing thoughts at our forums. (Thanks a whole bunch, Jakester!)
But I still found a few chuckles. Mucho gracias on this slow Friday, Flinto.
THE MUMMY 3 and Summer Olympics Team Up. - Jun 27, 2008 - 05:33am
We'll see soon in those Summer Olympic spots. Sorta sounds like the deals between the studios and the NBA Playoffs. They like to incorporate movie advertisements and the basketball theme together in what sometimes can be described as .....strange.
WB Sends Out Full KNIGHT Gallery - Jun 27, 2008 - 05:28am
Yep, definitely love that Harvey Dent coin photo. I almost put that baby up as the main article photo but...the expression on Heath Ledger's face with the fire in the background...Well, that expression is sinister. I couldn't stop smiling when I saw that photo in the press kit. I'm actually surprised WB sent some of these suckers out to all of us.
The Gary Oldman pic with him holding up the "Joker Newspaper" was a good one too.
July 18....We're approaching the final weeks of this long campaign. Can't wait to see it.
E.T Clips of KNIGHT Online - Jun 26, 2008 - 02:52am
Well, it's an interview with Heath Ledger so it's old news. I believe we covered that particular one here a while back too.
Still, I totally agree with you sportswarrior. Everytime I see Heath Ledger in a trailer or clip for the Dark Knight, a part of me goes "Damn....".
The bittersweet feelings are there and I hope that his performance will be a true capping performance to his short career. We know he will play a small part in Terry Gilliam's next film but he only filmed a few scenes. This one will be his last full performance and I hope it does him justice. Since it's Nolan, I have a feeling it will.
Can you imagine what it was for Nolan in his editing studio after hearing Ledger passed away. A lot of weight on his shoulders and he doesn't want to let anyone down.
Top Maniacal Rumors: Leo America, Knight Time & Punisher Hex! - Jun 22, 2008 - 01:32am
I'm laughing out loud at the fact that with so many of us fanboys willing to watch a movie more than once ...(Twice or maybe Three times), there is even one possibility that a movie will not perform up to our expectations in theaters.
We shall see on July 19, 2008, fellow Bats fan. We shall see. I'll hold my doubts in the same manner that a lot of fans are so sure it will be a box office heavyweight. :)
Sony Targetting May 2011 for SPIDER-MAN 4 - Jun 21, 2008 - 10:19pm
The report of the screenplay, hanso, says that's what they want...
But...
We'll need to confirm it through the principle parties of the fourth movie first. I do believe that Raimi, Maguire and Dunst will be involved with the next film but in the negotiations, there way be variances between the sides. There may be a few years off between Spider-Man 4 and 5.
We shall see.
Top Maniacal Rumors: Leo America, Knight Time & Punisher Hex! - Jun 21, 2008 - 09:13pm
lol Flint, I hear what you are saying...
But...Grindhouse had a full year of Us (online media) keeping fan anticipation at maximum. The anticipation was so high that there was no doubt the movie would be a high grosser.
And then...the movie hit theaters against 3 family movies on Easter 2007 weekend against 3 movies that were 1 hr & 30 minutes long.
Needless to say....Grindhouse failed miserably no matter how anticipated online media met the movie. No matter the positive reviews from serious critics.
Yes...Batman Begins was a critical success....Yes, there's a lot of fanboys.
But competition...and demographic competition...and running lengths all play an effect here.
I'll ammend my earlier statements.
If The Dark Knight has 300,000,001.00 million by the third weekend, I'll say that Hanso AND Flint are the bombs in that Box Office Report. But I don't see it happening.
There are 3 wide releases for July 11 weekend. There are 3 wide releases for July 18 weekend. There is too much competition. As I said in the first 10 comments and as Wiseguy said right after...
There's a point where the studios shoot themselves in the foot. It's becoming that only May releases are the only $300.0 mil domestic grossers. Like 2007...and like 2008.
We shall see if we're wrong. But.....it's going to be a test for the studios and those movies moreso than it will be for us fanboys.
Sony Targetting May 2011 for SPIDER-MAN 4 - Jun 21, 2008 - 08:11pm
From the confirmed reports, scythe, it was the studio which wished Venom to be a villain in Spider-Man 3, not director Sam Raimi.
With Marvel doing so well on Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, and other Avenger plans, it would stand to reason that Marvel and Sony would agree with the dissent on Spider-Man 3 that they wouldn't interfere with Sam Raimi again for Spider-Man 4's story....as they did with Spider-Man 3.
Millar's KICK ASS Ready for Production - Jun 21, 2008 - 08:04pm
That too, fft.
There have been rumors of Pitt being in the film. There have been rumors of Daniel Craig being in the film. There have been rumors of Robert De Niro being in the film.
All have working relationships with director Matthew Vaughn.
We won't know for certain until Variety does the press release but there's a good bet that De Niro, Craig and Pitt are two of the big name stars that Millar mentions above.
Top Maniacal Rumors: Leo America, Knight Time & Punisher Hex! - Jun 20, 2008 - 03:37pm
lol Joey Joey Joey...
If The Dark Knight is at $300,000,001.00 on it's third weekend, I'll begin THAT Sunday Box Office Report with "Maniac Joey Baloney is the bomb! He guessed it correctly.."
But it's not happening as been said in previous comments.
Still, I'll do it if that miracle of miracles happen.
Now, go get drunker, Joey. :)
Cohen Premieres Full Trailer for MUMMY 3 - Jun 20, 2008 - 02:08pm
I really wish they just said "Evie is busy doing something with the Museum" and left it at that..
They didn't need to recast her altogether. Just say her character is busy.
But the movie does look fun. That's the essence of these Mummy films. Silly fun "leave your brain at the door" adventures.
Top Maniacal Rumors: Leo America, Knight Time & Punisher Hex! - Jun 20, 2008 - 01:53pm
lol Jetpack..
That is some true dedication from Thomas Jane. He creates a photoshopped image himself without any knowledge from the actual creators and even admits to it after its been passed around the web.
Top Maniacal Rumors: Leo America, Knight Time & Punisher Hex! - Jun 20, 2008 - 01:50pm
I don't see Dark Knight being the top grosser of the summer, guys. I totally agree that film looks truly great and due to my Batman fanboyism, I'm sure it will be, but I just don't see how it's going to gross more that Iron or Indy with that much competition nipping at its heels in July.
Wide Releases
June 27
Wall E
Wanted
July 2
Hancock
July 11
Hellboy II
Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D
Meet Dave
July 18
The Dark Knight
Mamma Mia!
Space Chimps
July 25
X-Files 2
Step Brothers
There's three wide released films the weekend before Knight hits theaters and more than enough demographic competition to go around.
As Wiseguy says in the first 10 comments....These days, it's becoming a near reality that the only $300.0 mil grossers come out in May since studios are stacking too many movies together in June and July.
I really hope Knight does well and I hope it's a lasting tribute to Heath Ledger...but 152 minutes long against so much competition...Well, I don't see it being the highest grosser.
Carradine & Hannah Reunite for KUNG FU KILLER - Jun 20, 2008 - 05:04am
Heh, I just like how the series is called "Kung Fu Killer" and Carradine's character is called Crane.
Now, take off a word from the title and a letter from character.
Kung Fu.
Cane.
:)
Top Maniacal Rumors: Leo America, Knight Time & Punisher Hex! - Jun 20, 2008 - 04:55am
I can say I would also have liked Holloway as Gambit in the upcoming Wolverine prequel. He's said a bunch of times that he loved the character growing up and I've grown to respect him from his Lost moments. I think he could have done the character justice. Since he's a true fan, his dedication would have shown too.
As for the 152 minutes of Dark Knight. Haha, I know Hanso will chime in here but I think there is one thing that is bothering me.
Sure, I'm happy that it's going to be a lengthy installment with a lot of good character development...
But..
(Yes, there's a "but")
...We know how mainstream audiences are. People who don't keep up with online movie news such as ourselves. Those are the people who don't know anything about a "1,000,000 to Make Uwe Boll Quit" petition...Hell, those are the people who don't know who Uwe Boll is and don't really care to find out...
Bypassing the mainstream audiences' idea on a "long movie" (Believe me, I'm having flashbacks as to when Grindhouse failed), there's another issue.
Theater business. Like last summer, the studios have stacked way too many movies in back-to-back weekends and each movie is taking away from each other to a degree.
I'm wondering if Iron Man and Indy will be the only $300.0 mil domestic grossers because of it. Ironically, they're both from Paramount, the ruler of the 2008 Box Office Season clearly.
With a running time of 152 minutes, there are questions as to how many showings a day a theater will allow per day for the movie and how it will affect the box office results in our weekly Sunday report.
Sure, I think Dark Knight will make a killing, fellow Maniacs. But I wonder if having Hellboy II a week before and X-Files 2 a week after AND having a 152 minute length will play an effect here.
What does it really matter. I guess I'm just pondering aloud my thoughts. Dark Knight will be a hit and it will likely be deserved.
I'm just holding reservations on a lot of these studios. I'm not sure why they seem bent on hurting themselves by stacking so many movies so close to each other.
McClammy and MGM Team up for LE CAR - Jun 20, 2008 - 04:33am
Definitely funny...Agreed Pony. Since it's Friday and the news story was related, I thought it would be cool to include it here.
The "I F**ked Ben Affleck" video was on Oscar night so it had more cameos in it but there's a lot of Hollywood fans of Kimmel because he plays it straight with them. That's one of the added bonuses for his talk show vs. veterans like Leno or Letterman.
There's a backstory to the "I'm F**king Matt Damon". For years, Jimmy has been messing with him (and he's been in on it of course). We have a thread dedicated to the videos in our Celebrities forum here at the Mania messageboards.
Ashmore Deals With Cold Monster in the THAW - Jun 15, 2008 - 04:59pm
Hey Trollman,
Most of us are aware that John Carpenter's The Thing is a remake of the classic sci-fi film. But John Carpenter's version took the story into a new and more faithful direction than the original.
It was based around the fears of the Aids virus and other issues of the late 70s and early 80s and it was about a killer virus in the same region...
So yes, as we're saying above, this does sound very close to that. The killer parasite in the movie mentioned above may not be an "alien" parasite but that doesn't stop the comparisons from being made by us Carpenter fanboys.
Even the title of the film is something..."The Thing"..."The Thaw"...
23.5 Degrees: Affirmative Alienation - Jun 15, 2008 - 12:45am
I pretty much agree with you Wise and I'm a huge fan of space exploration in the private and public service industries for those reasons alone.
Hell, I think we have life outside of Earth in our own solar system even if it's not anywhere near mammal complexity. As an example, I'm willing to bet that there are micro-organisms, plant life, etc on some of the moons like Titan farther out into our system.
Now, that's just our solar system. Add on the fact that we are surrounded by untolds amount of solar systems inside OUR galaxy and I know that there is also other intelligent life elsewhere.
What amazes me is scientists looking for just planets nearby with H20 and oxygenated atmospheres nearby as to whether there is life there as well. That strikes me as odd. Are they saying that just because of Earth and what we know about our species needs, life can't live under different elements? I don't see why life can't adapt and grow under different elements and circumstances. Hell, for all we know, there could be some jellyfish like creature living in gases of Jupiter. Nobody knows where life can live or can't live. A lot of scientists like to just pigeonhole circumstances as defined by what we call standards of Earth life.
I guess I think it's a bit egocentric to say Earth is the only planet of the only solar system in our galaxy that can sustain life. That's not even saying the same for all the other galaxies out there, which in turn has hundreds of millions other stars inside their own galaxies
Hell, if there was a way to actually confirm, I'd lay down quite a big bet that 6 or 7 solar systems away from US is another solar system with another planet that has intelligent life on it too. They're probably having this same debate wondering if they're the only ones out there in the galaxy not realizing that we're in their own backyard of the Milky Way.
Mania on this Day: Collateral Cruise, Speedy Mishaps & Castle Delays - Jun 15, 2008 - 12:06am
Haven't watched it yet, Wise. I was a fan of the anime but just haven't had a chance or strong desire to watch the movie yet.
From what I can gather, that seems to be the biggest wrong that WB and the Wachowskis made with the film. They didn't really target it a specific demographic...or if they did, they didn't do it well enough. A friend of mine inside the theatrical industry said much of the same thing. No single demographics seem to want to watch the movie or if they do, they're not in a hurry to watch it, more content to wait for the DVD.
True on Cruise...He hadn't played a villain in sometime and that must have weighed in on him pushing MI:III years back.
Ashmore Deals With Cold Monster in the THAW - Jun 14, 2008 - 12:58am
Perhaps, it's my Carpenter fanboyism talking here but they should slap on a "Based on The Thing" credit somewhere in the intro.
Of course, I haven't seen the finished product...it could be something utterly different. Still, that plot line sounds...*walks away*
8-Minute Gotham News and Alt-Trailer for KNIGHT - Jun 13, 2008 - 09:59pm
I wouldn't worry, Hanso.
Ratner will be busy doing Beverly Hills Copy IV (confirmed) to do that one. The God of War with Ratner has never been confirmed by anyone on his camp or by the studio.
The man's name seems to be attached to too many movies by rumors alone but little of it is ever fact.
8-Minute Gotham News and Alt-Trailer for KNIGHT - Jun 13, 2008 - 09:09pm
That 8 minute Gotham News was awesome. Easy to admit that I love what Nolan and the marketing guys are doing with this movie. Just the amount of the fanboyism they put into some of their viral sites (like the Gotham Newspaper) had me impressed.
Can't wait for July 18.
Top Maniacal Rumors: Iron Cheap, Raimi's Return & Beachy Turok - Jun 13, 2008 - 08:31pm
Thanks Joey...
Hanso...Wiseguy (I did read your blog on it too), I did cover these subjects individually during this past week. Which is sorta why Joey says we're talked out on these subjects. But this column is more of a weekly wrap-up of the top rumors for other people who don't have as much time during the week...For all users just to discuss things in one place. A weekend discussion place if you will. :)
Superbad Stars Take on the APOCALYPSE - Jun 11, 2008 - 03:29am
I was thinking the same thing when I was writing it, Mr. Jaw. But technically in Superbad, Jonah Hill and Michael Cera played Seth and Evan's childhood antics. Hill was Seth and Cera was Evan.
Seth Rogen and Bill Hader were only identified as Officers Slater and Michaels. No first names.
Still, it would have been amusing to see the same two cops dealing with the apocalypse. If they were even half as bad as they were in Superbad, the world is doomed!
Vader's Secret Apprentice in SOUL CALIBUR IV? - Jun 09, 2008 - 02:53pm
How come Lucas is the one getting bashed for being money greedy? I mean, I'm used to it from here and everywhere else after the prequels, but....this is Namco Bandai's title and major release. They're the ones who have say and are putting the characters in to help sell their title.
Update: Marsden Joins TRANSFORMERS 2 & Video - Jun 03, 2008 - 12:58pm
Marsden was also the head scientific leader (the devious one) in Anaconda 2: Blood Orchid and the devious scientist in Resident Evil: Extinction, the young chap who tried shooting the main villain towards the end only to get his eyes and tongue yanked out when his would-be victim turned into the creature.
Around the same age as Josh Duhamel and Gibson. It seems that Bay is putting in more Worldwide elements into the sequel as opposed to the original being strictly American. One battle in a Chinese city and now this guy will be playing a British Special Forces operative. Perhaps some other elements too as time and scoops come in.
New Redband trailer for Coens' BURN - May 30, 2008 - 09:41pm
Pony....Why are you on my butt now?
I don't like comedies and I normally don't cover them here at Mania but I do make exceptions. Sci-fi comedies, Fantasy comedies, Horror comedies and like said above...Spy comedies.
Why not cover it?
I understand that everyone has a different opinion. In all my years here, I'm used to hearing people complain my direction but sometimes, even I'm surprised on it all. I was surprised last weekend when Taydor told me to cover something instead of doing a weekly column. As Chip said, "don't read it if it's not your cup of tea"...
We do have 32,000 articles here at Mania and sometimes even I'm surprised when someone who is on my friends list (like you, Hanso, etc) comes along and tells me..."Why is this covered here!?"
I don't know...I really don't know at times. All of you know how I feel about comedies..(dime a dozen) but when it's mixed with genre material like spy, sci-fi, fantasy, horror....I do cover it.
Box Office: Paramount Finds Memorial Day Treasure with INDY - May 26, 2008 - 02:30am
Mla, you would sue your own wife/girlfriend??? Crazy man, you.
I believe that's what Wes is referring to above when he says "The Boss" anyway. Correct me if I'm wrong there.
I believe a lot of "Bosses" will be leading their minions...errr...significant others to that film next weekend.
INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL - May 24, 2008 - 11:06pm
Winter, it did have some X-Files: Fight the Future moment there...
But what is there to say? In ALL the Indy movies, the MacGuffin must be destroyed when it wipes out the enemies.
Raiders of the Lost Ark: Takes out the Nazis, then lost in a warehouse.
Temple of Doom: Most of the stones disappear into crocodiles, except one, which isn't returned to a museum.
Last Crusade: Cup falls through the cracks because of.....greed.
That's what MacGuffins do. Since this was based on 50's sci-fi classics, the ship must disappear at some point and be not left for evidence.
In the same style that Mulder can't possibly prove that an alien ship exists in the running of the X-Files series.
I see what you're saying, Winter, but there seems to be little choice behind it. It needed to go somehow.
Del Toro & Jackson Answer Fan Questions for HOBBIT - May 24, 2008 - 06:19pm
I'm as surprised as you, Hanso.
All the articles I've written over the Hobbit this last year and none mentioned Ian Holm. It's always about whether McKellen and others returning. By the mere fact that nobody asked whether Holm was returning was leading me to believe that they were going to recast the character.
It caught me off guard there above..
INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL - May 24, 2008 - 03:08am
Spoilers in my review. If you haven't seen it yet, skip of over this post.
Absolutely loved the movie. Felt like the same flow as the other three so director Spielberg kept himself in check with it.
First 20 minutes: Action scene. Check
Next 20 minutes: Introduction of real overall story. Check.
Next 20 minutes: Indy's on the hunt. Check
Next half hour: Indy's got the Skull but some skulldulgery (sorry, couldn't help myself) has the "idol" stolen from him and he must get it back and kick some serious ass along the way. This is where the real action sequences come into play and end.
Last half hour: Narrative and closing of the film. Check.
On another review elsewhere, I heard a comment saying..."They needed more action in the last 30 minutes..". My immediate thoughts were..."Did they even see Raiders of the Lost Ark and Last Crusade?!?!" The last real action in Raiders was the truck scene. The last real action in Last Crusade was the tank scene. Both films then went onto to finish things up with the MacGuffin being the real hero because the villains succumbed to "greed".
Spielberg did the exact same thing here with Crystal Skull. It's not up to Indy to kill all the Russians in the last 20 minutes of the movie. He didn't have to do that with the Nazis either in "Raiders" and "Crusade". The villains will shoot themselves in their foot with their greed. Just as Cate Blanchett finally did.
Story pacing was perfect and the introduction of mythology/legend was there as well for Spielberg and gang, just as it has been for Raiders, Temple and Crusade. Examples being "Lost Ark" devices towards the end wiping and melting Nazis, Sacred stones protecting the people and being used as evil by some sinister heart-grabbing villain, and of course a 900 year old Last Crusade knight guarding the Holy Grail.
Crystal Skull follows its own mythology into the legend that alien beings helped the Mayan culture. Plus, of course, as brought up, the movie is set in the 50s and what movies came out in the 50s? Which movies inspired Steven and George to go into the movie making business? B-monster movies (Attack of the Killer Ants) and sci-fi flicks (The Day the Earth Stood Still). Of course, that would be the theme here. Next logical step to go into..
The scene which had me laughing my ass off was Indy's expression upon seeing Karen Allen for the first time. I almost lost a lung with Harrison's great method acting. Same goes for the scene where they're falling into the quick mud at night.
"Say it's a rope!!" "Say it's a rope"
Great library scene too. Indy comes rolling across the floor and a student doesn't flinch, just says "Hey professor, can you help me out here?" Haha...
If anything, above everything else, I like how Spielberg switched spots with Harrison and Shia. In the cycle chase scene, Shia looks to Ford and smiles and what does Ford do? He does the exact same thing that Sean Connery did to him after the Last Crusade cycle chase scene. Great job, Steven. You switched the roles as smooth as possible there.
I agree that the Tarzan scene was way too over the top...The same can be said for when Chewie does the exact same thing in Return of the Jedi. Chewie even makes the Tarzan call while doing it. The Tarzan reference shouldn't have made the final cut, Steven, but one scene doesn't damage things too much for me.
Definitely had a great experience with this latest Indiana adventure. I felt like a kid again and that's exactly what Steven wanted for us fans.
Three More for 24 Prequel Movie - May 23, 2008 - 05:01am
Well, they talked about filming a theatrical movie between seasons last summer. But the WGA strike threw everything out of whack. Not sure if it's still on the slate now. This upcoming 2 hour TV movie is likely compensation for that as well.
Fox may look at the results of the prequel movie's rating (and likely DVD sales) and see if a theatrical movie is plausible or economical.
TERMINATOR Trilogy Begins Production - May 23, 2008 - 04:57am
Preach it, Dark Knight2280.Yes, it's still targeted as PG-13.
But continue to preach it! Perhaps they'll listen. Rightttttt...who am I kidding?
PS: Main terminator is being kept under wraps. No confirmations. I'm sure over the summer or into the fall, someone will leak it. Probably at the upcoming Con...
HOBBIT Enters Pre-Production with Returning Cast - May 21, 2008 - 06:50pm
Hah Scythe!
"But in the name of the Eldar, Valar, the Nine Rings and the One, and the Silmarils in the crown of Morgoth, enough talk about the ages of the actors. Are we TRYING to tempt fate here?"
----------------------------------------------------------------
Believe me, I was thinking the same thing. I can be superstitious at times as well. I curse at baseball announcers when they go "Here we are in the 7th innning with a no-hitter..."
*Hit!*
*Curses*
But I agree that it is on the mind. Christopher Lee, the legendary actor who has appeared in so many classic horror films, being one of them.
But you're right. Let's not tempt fate or jinxes with these two franchises, Lotr and Potter.
J
HOBBIT Enters Pre-Production with Returning Cast - May 21, 2008 - 02:08pm
Almost,
Just letting ya know that Cate Blanchett said a few months ago that she would return to her character in a heartbeat if asked. She loved entering the world. I couldn't confirm it above because she hasn't been contacted "officially" yet via the trades but still...
It's likely she'll be back given her quotes in the past.
I was cringing at the Christopher Lee/McKellen comments above. Can't say it hasn't gone through my head too or even their own heads. I know it seems amazing that nobody of older age has passed in the Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings cast (outside of veteran actor Harris-Dumbledore early on). Both of these series are looking to complete their film franchises up to 2011 and both franchises have older actors which are playing essential roles.
Batman Begins' Tone Influencing WOLVERINE? - Apr 30, 2008 - 03:31am
Batman Begins' success and fan approval set a major precedent for studios and directors in restarting and working with the origins of superhero characters.
It's understandable that other directors will want to follow that mold.
Tina Fey's MAMA Beats Harold & Kumar - Apr 28, 2008 - 03:27am
Technically no, McKracken....but the tale of the Monkey King is a classic tale in China and has been adapted many times even with different names.
LOST: The Shape of Things to Come - Apr 26, 2008 - 12:52am
Ben's becoming such a great & complex character on this series. I like the fact that he's in the middle of just about everything important surrounding the story arcs.
And Sawyer...Wow, what a change with his character. Hugo and Charlie used to be a great dynamic of the series and Sawyer has readily stepped into Charlie's shoes as a replacement.
My older sister was shitting kittens when they pointed the guns at Sawyer in this episode. In shows of the past, we would say "Yeah, right, they won't kill him off".
But it seems the death toll is adding up over here and nobody really feels safe if we haven't seen their flash forward by now.
When they pointed the gun at Sawyer, there was definitely some "Nooooooooooo" thoughts going on.
Alex's death was brutal as well.
Great season so far. Superb writing and storytelling. Loving it.
New DARK KNIGHT Trailer Premieres at NYCC - Apr 21, 2008 - 11:57pm
lol I didn't even see your comments in my Box Office Report. Were you and Gauley busting my balls again? :)
This one wasn't posted over the weekend because there was no trailer to pass on...Much like those Joe pics last week..We knew they'd ask them to get it taken down within an hour and sure enough, the studio did.
Studios are definitely quick these days. But I don't mind the occasional ball busting. I'm always listening even if I don't always respond.
Bloodgood Fights in New TERMINATOR - Apr 21, 2008 - 02:08am
It seems either that report was untrue or the name is staying until an alternate is approved. WB's official site still has it listed as Terminator Salvation for us anyway.
X-Files 2 Title Revealed by Carter - Apr 16, 2008 - 04:29pm
lol I see that you posted it in the blogs..I check my email before looking around for news, not Mania blogs. Next time, email me the link and I'll credit you butthead. :)
New Viral Site for HELLBOY II? - Apr 08, 2008 - 11:25pm
Hanso and Company,
I can't wait for us to get our Properties section going soon because I have a feeling you guys will do it justice.
Case in point is your suggestions about all the Batman Viral stuff I'm missing out..
I'll be honest on that one. There are too many viral sites to manage for the Dark Knight alone and these New Property pages will give you guys the chance to frequently update ..say...a Batman section with every new update on every new Viral site you find.
I've know I've been getting some flack for not covering every single viral update that pops up for Batman like....say...SHH does...but after a point of time, it becomes too much for one person to watch over. I have a lot of subjects to cover here and other duties so I can't always dedicate it to chasing Viral campaigns for films.
That's exactly why we're getting together the Properties section to be managed by the people who know best in the world of Mania....You!
Ray Stevenson Talks PUNISHER - Apr 07, 2008 - 12:41am
Hanso....SonyMan...
It's not for lack of trying here. Nobody can get a confirmation from their publicists on the Joe parts yet.
I'm sure a confirmation will come soon whether they're in the film or not but until then, thats something that will go in next week's Rumors of the Week column.
Much like a lot of crap that AICN reports...
Just replying here to let you know I hear your thoughts on me not reporting it. We're all still waiting for a confirmation from both actors' camps.
Vader is No Superman & Hulk Madness - Apr 04, 2008 - 08:54pm
Fixed McK, I'm surprised someone didnt email me and tell me about the HTML error.
And Hanso, I'd love to publish those photos but I already know what's going to happen.
It's much like those Iron Man photos earlier this week. Paramount and WB are very quick to "ask" (errr demand) that we take them down.
Next Screenshot Trivia is Up! - Apr 02, 2008 - 02:09pm
Band,
We resolved that one a few weeks back. Only logged in users can see the answers and that's after they already entered their guesses. They can't guess them again since their username is already in the system.
I believe that's why people are complaining above about spelling...and that's why spelling has to be precise! This is automated..The spelling for each answer is taken directly from IMDB.
Non-logged in users can play the game but they can't see the answers.
Gauley, we're always listening..We read the comments. I may not always say something because it may be out of our control but we're listening.
Next Screenshot Trivia is Up! - Apr 02, 2008 - 01:52pm
If you post answers, all that will happen is you get banned from the site.
I've said guys that the answers need to be precise...as in the same exact letter-for-letter as IMDB.com's database entry.
It needs to be the exact same as its counterpart at IMDB. If you know a movie but are unsure about its exact spelling, consult that database.
Mla, looking into that issue now.
Mania Exclusive Interview: Simon Pegg - Mar 31, 2008 - 11:53pm
Pegg definitely rocks, Bern. Agree with you on that one. Double cheers and a Guiness to boot.
It's cool to see him admit some Trek fans having doubts on his Scotty casting. It shows he knows what's on the table for that one. Though, even if he did screw the pooch---which I don't see happening---something tells me he won't be to blame for the film. It's one very ambitious project with a lot on the line. Good news for it is the release date of next May.
Hah, I wonder if Simon directly asked Hank to do a voice...or if Hank just knows he will be asked while on the set of a film and does them anyway preemptively.
Looking forward to checking out Run Fat Boy Run too when I grab a chance.
Mania Exclusive Interview: Superhero Movie Writer-Director Craig Mazin - Mar 27, 2008 - 04:06pm
It's a Zucker film.
I'm there.
And yes, I was just as disgusted when Meet the Effing Spartans beat out Rambo. Or when Epic Movie beat out the box office last year.
But in a Zucker produced spoof, I trust.
New Viral Sites for DARK KNIGHT - Mar 27, 2008 - 04:04pm
Galaga, I like that you saw that.
Nolan has said that the Penguin is his least favorite villain...but there can be no doubt that Nolan and WB have adjusted to Ledger's death.
I wouldn't find it surprising in the least that the Penguin was in the third film or at least a reference to his character.
There can be no doubt that Nolan had to change things for the third film now that Ledger is gone.
Two More Traveling to Raimi's HELL - Mar 27, 2008 - 04:00pm
Not 1 comment.
Should I stop covering Sam Raimi's return to the horror genre?
Or are you all Rami-ed out?
New Developer Footage of RE 5 - Mar 27, 2008 - 02:34am
Same here, Audio. Same here.
But hey, at least it's new footage of the game.
*Going to refill my half-full glass*
JUSTICE LEAGUE Losing Against Australia - Mar 19, 2008 - 06:50am
Well, there's no doubt that Chicago is becoming a virtual goldmine for filming...Quite a lot of movies getting shot at that location over the past year.
But I agree with the landmark comments.
...
Btw...I wonder if the Australian government will allow George Miller to film Mad Max 4 (his next project after JLM) there.
Or if George will even try to film it there given his current gripes.
Yelchin Playing Reese in TERMINATOR - Mar 19, 2008 - 06:27am
http://www.mania.com/justice-league-america_article_55906.html
Why yes, Hanso...yes, he is. :)
And he's in the upcoming Star Trek reboot...Probably multiple picture deal.
In fact...Yelchin likely has a multiple picture deal with WB for Terminator now, a multiple picture deal with WB for Justice League..and a multiple picture deal with Paramount for Trek.
This kids gonna be as busy as Shia in the next few years.
Arthur C. Clarke Passes Away at 90 - Mar 19, 2008 - 06:23am
I just wrote it over at our forums but I haven't had a change to read Childhood's End yet...I'm gonna pick it up this week, Sony.
But damn it if I didn't read Rendezvous so many times as a kid that I wore out the book cover multiple times..I've probably bought that book at least 5 times in the past 10 years.
Same for Hitchhikers Guide too..Another deceased but never forgotten writer...
42...2001...42...2001...42...2001
Arthur C. Clarke Passes Away at 90 - Mar 19, 2008 - 05:44am
Godspeed, Mr. Clarke.
You truly were a legendary man of Science Fiction and you made a lasting impact on tools like me. I'll always appreciate your work.
Enjoy your journey onward to your new adventure.
Yelchin Playing Reese in TERMINATOR - Mar 19, 2008 - 05:39am
Have to say, rghtiger, that the latest press release did reveal more than expected...
Still not sure what "Earlier version of Arnold model" mean..
Did it mean an earlier model below T-800...As in something we're already seeing in the Sarah Connor Chronicles...or did it mean the actually T-800 model in earlier version.
lol Sometimes, these press releases are not to be trusted..like the whole Star Trek-Ryder playing Human mother ordeal last summer.
Raimi Leading New JACK RYAN Trilogy - Mar 19, 2008 - 01:43am
I did the same head turning when I saw this story, mla.
Raimi has talked about how much of an emotional and time-consuming drain the Spider-Man trilogy was for so many years..
And now, he has a new Fantasy series hitting ABC next year (based on Terry Goodkind's series)..
And...this? I'd understand if he was just taking this as a one time deal to lead the new Jack Ryan movie..but the press release implies multiple films all with Raimi set to executive produce and direct.
Damn Sam. Spider-Man locked you up for nearly a decade and now you have something for the next decade.
Hulk, Iron Man and More for FX - Mar 17, 2008 - 01:10am
Agreed.
I liked how the trade set up a possible venture for a specific Superhero network from Marvel Studios. Obviously, they're just talking about doing full 24 hour marathons with superhero movies on the FX network in the near future..
But if this proves successful...as in highly profitable, I can definitely see Marvel Studios getting into television specifically to bring together a niche satelite channel sometime in the near future.
SUPERMAN Sequel Begins Script Phase - Mar 14, 2008 - 06:27pm
A guy is sitting at a bar in a skyscraper restaurant high above the city. He's slamming tequila left and right. He grabs one, drinks it, goes over to a window and jumps out. The guy who was sitting next to him couldn't believe that the guy had just done that. He was more surprised when, ten minutes later, the same guy, unscathed, comes walking back into the bar and sits back down next to him.
The astonished guy asks "How did you do that? I just saw you jump out that window and we're hundreds of feet above the GROUND!".
The jumper responds by slurring, "Well, I don't get it either. I slam a shot of tequila and when I jump out the window, the tequila makes me slow down right before I hit the ground. Watch."
He takes a shot, slams it down, goes to the window and jumps out. The other guy runs to the window and watches as the guy falls until right before the ground, slows down and lands softly on his feet. A few minutes later, the guy walks back into the bar.
The other guy has to try it too, so he orders a shot of tequila. He drinks it and goes to the window and jumps. As he reaches the bottom, he doesn't slow down at all...SPLAT!
The first guy orders another shot of tequila and the bartender says to him, "You really are a fucking asshole when you're drunk, Superman."
Official HULK Site Launched & More. - Mar 13, 2008 - 12:37pm
Shame on you, monkeyfoot, shame on youuuu. I said Ty Burrell was playing Doc Samson months ago here at Mania.
:)
And I agree, it's cool to have the trailer broken down by the director so soon.
SUPERMAN Sequel Begins Script Phase - Mar 12, 2008 - 01:12am
Yep, I liked SR as well and can't wait for Man of Steel. It's obvious that I want this one in theaters more than any WB-distributed JLA film. And if Singer chooses to pump up the action angle, that's cool with me but I bet a lot of fan expectations are hinging upon which villain will be on the hot seat this time.
Spacey is confirmed as returning as Luthor but it will likely be a limited role and not be as the main baddie.
So who? Who can attract audiences in the same context as Batman taking on the Joker?
SaucyMi Dominates Screenshot Trivia - Mar 10, 2008 - 07:17pm
Wile,
You don't have to wait. Check out the header above. The automated Screenshot Trivia has begun.
SaucyMi Dominates Screenshot Trivia - Mar 10, 2008 - 01:09am
Notes:
Peckinpahwannabe, I added that 1 point to your score but I need you to check your email for a question I sent your way this morning. When I grab your email, I'll update your numbers again here.
MyerFreddy, I added that two points from last week to your final score for the Pet Cemetery issue.
And everyone else, expect the official version very soon here. Goodluck and remember, you must be precise on your answers from now on in any official Screenshot Trivia games...Whether it's for movies, television, anime, etc.
If you know a movie screenshot but you're unsure of the title, consult Imdb.com's listings for that movie. The answer will be worded precisely from their listings.
Thanks and good luck everyone!
Joes Are Patriotic, Black Panther Trilogy & More Supes! - Mar 07, 2008 - 06:21pm
Mustang,
You read it correctly but they're two different Avatar concepts..
Cameron's Avatar is an original spec..a Sci-Fi Fantasy with a mixture of live-action and motion capture technology.
M.Night's Avatar is based on the toon property.
They're not related.
ANIMALS Set to Wipe Out Mankind - Mar 06, 2008 - 10:47pm
Haha Mr. Jaw. Nice one.
For some reason when I was writing this one up, I kept thinking of the Evil Deer in Slither. You know, one of those animals you wouldn't expect but could get really pissed off at man after a while..Unfortunately, I couldn't find a photo for that evil Deer who wants to eat Nathan...So I opted for a Mad Bear instead.
And holy shit, The Last Starfighter is coming on HBO right now. I haven't seen that in years..
Producers Answer LOST Questions - Mar 04, 2008 - 11:46pm
Some of the new things are pulling me away from commenting as often. The biggest thing is that new Movie Screenshot Trivia Game..I have to sift through 200 or so emails every week now for that one alone.
Also the new Friday Rumor column.
This is on top of managing the content and news which always pulls me up..up..down..down..left..right..left..right..B A (Oh wait..)
Hopefully when the Screenshot game gets Automated this week (No more emails), I can talk more Lost and stuff with you fellow Maniacs. :)
Producers Answer LOST Questions - Mar 04, 2008 - 04:18pm
lol Guys, I never said it was breaking news or anything. Just a some producers answering Lost related questions.
I was thinking it's Michael or Claire in the coffin too. But I'm not so sure anymore.
Charlie's sacrifice was about getting Claire on the helicopter, right? But who's to say that Claire doesn't die on the boat or in the helicopter?
Whatever the case, this season of Lost has been badass so far and it looks like the body count will go up soon.
Oh yeah, Sawyers getting another haircut. That too.
D&D Co-Creator Passes Away - Mar 04, 2008 - 04:10pm
Wow ExperiMental,
I didn't think you were that type of person. You having a bad day or something?
This is dedicated to someone passing away..Much like Heath Ledger or any other press report about someone passing..
And it did say he is survived by a wife and six children.
Didn't expect that eM. You've never shown that type of posting here before..I'll chalk it up to a bad day.
Movie Screenshot Trivia Rd5 Set 1 - Mar 03, 2008 - 01:16pm
Yahoo screwed up your emails, peckinpahwannabe and Wile Koyote. I didn't get either one of your Set 2 emails until this morning. Both of you sent them last night according to the timestamp but Yahoo was experiencing some major delays.
And JrJedi, it should have been automated last week. I'm not sure what the delay is but I can't wait for it to get automated..No more emails to go through on my end.
Child Logan Recast in WOLVERINE - Mar 02, 2008 - 09:07pm
Semantics, guys. I'll change the wording since you're technically right but come on...
Movie Screenshot Trivia Rd 4 Set 2 - Feb 28, 2008 - 04:25pm
Apologies Peckinpah.
The first 40 emails I got from Set 1 didn't have the correct answer for #1. I hadn't got to your email yet before correcting the photo..And yes, it was Pet Semetary.
That photo was from another folder and not meant to be in the set game.
Sorry about that, I'm juggling a lot of jpg files with this game and all the news and that Pet one shouldn't have been involved.
WB Preparing JUSTICE LEAGUE for 2009 - Feb 27, 2008 - 04:38pm
Hey Hanso-san,
Just like to say I don't doubt that JLA will make money. Lots of money. In fact, if the film gets made, I'll likely go watch it the first week out since I'm a comic fan and I'm curious on it.
But I still hold my reservations on the whole process from Warner Bros. here. They have a proven product with Nolan and Bale and they're putting it on jeopardy for the sake of an unproven risk like this team-up of JLA.
And I understand that some people think that two different Batmans is no big deal..
But remember, we are more hardcore than the average moviegoer.
The average moviegoer doesn't know to avoid Uwe Boll or wouldn't have a clue to who performed the musical score soundtrack of The Empire Strikes Back and Indiana Jones. They'll watch anything if the trailer "looks cool".
Crappy movies make lots of profits to the same degree that great movies sometimes fail at the box office.
Every Sunday, I have to type out a box office report and every Sunday, I have to wonder if something like "Meet the Spartans" will be the winner as opposed to something more aligned with our Maniacal passion in the world of great films. I definitely agree that we'll see a JLA film but I have to wonder why WB seems so hell bent on risking this at the expense of proven commodities.
Johnson Saves The TOOTH FAIRY? - Feb 27, 2008 - 01:46am
Santa Clause was about an ordinary man who had to step in and save Christmas & the North Pole.
Since this sucker will be directed by the man who helmed the last two of that franchise, this will the same take on another iconic folk legend. Just a film to take your kids to.
And Dwayne was successful at bouncing out of the action genre with his recent Game Plan success. He's also doing the Witch Mountain film, which is likewise set for 2009.
But I get what you're saying exfan. It's hard to make someone like Arnold S. or Dwayne look "ordinary". Arnold pulled out those roles in Twins, Junior but he still had the build of an action star.
WB Preparing JUSTICE LEAGUE for 2009 - Feb 27, 2008 - 01:35am
Hah Lobezno, I'd be on the betting floor with you but I've also had my doubts for this film getting made for months. Enough so that when I did write up the 1,000th rumor for the project, I was tempted to end it with:
"Justice League will hit theaters when Hell Freezes Over."
:)
But WB does seem hell bent on getting this production rolling. At least, they seem hell bent on it today. Who knows what I'll be writing up in three days when some other news report or rumor crosses the wires stating the exact opposite.
I find the whole mess a bit silly on their parts. Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale have already expressed their frustration on a different Batman in this Justice League film before they can finish the 3rd Batman film in their series. Why would WB feel like pissing those two off for something as dangerous as this JLA film?
I say dangerous because there's a lot "What-ifs" in terms of this production, these confirmed castings and how the final product will look for audiences.
Whereas a larger percent of the public already know what Nolan/Bale can deliver in the Batman series. It seems to me that WB is risking a proven success over a risky adventure and that course of action doesn't seem very wise.
Personally, I think Marvel Films seems to be doing the smart thing and testing their heroes individually before bringing together an Avengers film.
Haha Beagle, I forgot all about the pole dancing from Ginny. Thanks for the reminder. :) Btw, HBP is one film.
