Top "School" Movies?
(Mon 09/01/2008 07:08pm)
Well Maniacs it's back to school time so how about a look at the classic "High School" and "College" movies? The obvious classics are Animal House, Fast Times, Breakfast Club, but what movies am I missing here?
What are the all time best "school" themed movies? I want to gather up a Top 10 list of "school" movies based on reader's and fan's feedback and run it down live on Chaotic Radio next week, so you tell me - What was your all time favorite and what classic "High School" and "College" movies are we forgetting here?

The lost art of the Drive-In Theater LIVES!!!
(Thu 08/28/2008 12:10pm)
The essentials: lawn chairs, blankets, bug spray, bulk candy from the grocery store, maybe even a few bags of home popped popcorn and soda pop.
I guarantee there is at least 1remaining drive in theater open for business somewhere in your state. And if you think hard enough you may remember back to when you were a kid and your parents took you on a Friday night to the show. Cars lined up single file to get in, the rows of speaker boxes on steel poles ready to receive the crowd. You scout up and down the lot looking for just the right parking spot - can't be too far back or you'll likely end up behind some jackass with a big old pickup truck blocking your view
Like mine, yours probably even had a rugged playground . You run around making new friends, maybe take a spin on that death trap the "Big Spinner", the giant metal circle that laid about a foot off the ground and could be spun, usually by someone standing beside it. If you were lucky you’d get a pile of kids on there and somebody’s mom or dad would kindly whip you into a World of Unimaginable Dizziness. A couple kids would fly off from the G-forces but most would hang on, teeth gritted, eyes squinted, cheeks flapping wildly against the wind, until the Big Spinner reluctantly came to a slow stop and finally let you off. Then you’d all walk away in different directions, some kids hitting tree trunks head on, others falling down nearby hills.
But the sun is going down and they've started to play the classic cartoon vignettes with dancing corn dogs and coke bottles. The old timey announcer reminding you that "The concession stand has all the best snacks and goodies to make your movie going experience complete. And don't forget an ice cold refreshing Coca-Cola to wash it down" But of course you already have your stash of goddies you brought anyway. Lay out the blankets or open up the chairs and get every situated just right. Or maybe yours was the station wagon, and you could just pop open the back window to create your own virtual theater inside the car.
One way or another, your bound for a double feature thrill like no other.
A lot of folks don't realize that this time honored experience and tradition is alive and well today. In my area of NY we have 2 drive in's we can visit - each about an hour and half drive east or west. All it takes is a quick google search for "drive-in theaters" in your state and you'll find one within reasonable distance.
And $9.50 for admission + about $20 for snacks and drinks...each? Not likely. These days most drive-ins either still charge by the carload or in our case, $7 for adults and between $2 and $5 for the kids. They are all still double features of "nearly" first run films and in many cases, as with ours, they have gotten into the habit of making it a TRIPLE feature all for the same price. Though staying awake till 3am for all 3 films is a bit tough.
My wife and I rediscovered our love for drive-in theaters a few years ago and it has turned into a summer time tradition. Hell it borders on an absession! The atmosphere, the people, and the experience are everything you remember and more. We typically go 3 or 4 times during the summer and this Friday night will be the last hoorah. The kids absolutely love it. Last time we went we were recognized as regulars by the theater owner and he took me an my sons into the projection room to make the announcements and my 10 year old son got to push the button to start the film. By the end everyone is so exhausted from playing on the playground and their blood sugar has crashed from the snickers high that they sleep soundly all the way home.
Summer is just about over Maniacs. I encourage you to get out there this weekend and find a drive-in movie. Tomorrow night it's Kung-Fu Panda followed by Wall-E and if we make it that long, another Iron Man viewing will round out the night. (wish it was Batman, dammit)

What's it like to be a young singer / songwriter trying to make it?
(Thu 04/24/2008 05:41am)
Find out Saturday on Chaotic Radio!! Swansong (Gentlemen Death) and I will be interviewing young artist Michael Annotti this Saturday April 26th on the show.
New and up coming artists rarely get to tell their story unless someone at VH1 happens to pick up their video and play them a few times at 7am when no one is watching anyway! Makes no sense to me.
So I've been searching around myspace looking for new and undiscovered bands and artists that sound good and sound like they have potential. Then to bring in to the show and give them a little forum to tell their story and get a perspective from someone who is working their way up in the business. Michael Annotti is one of those artists.
Check out Michael's music on his myspace page - www.myspace.com/michaelannotti and let me know what you think. NO. It's not rock, it's not metal. Best I can describe it is modern folk meets pop meets perhaps a twang on country. It's an original sound and we'll talk one on one with Michael about where he got started, where he finds his vision and where's he's headed next!
Of course, I'll run down the week's Entertainment News, Swansong will bring us Weird and Strange Headlines from all over the world, A Signature Chaotic Radio Dueling Top 5 List, Callers, Music, Entertainment, Insanity, all the lovely little things we do every Saturday night at 10pm east, 7 pm pacific.
Come on over and join us and a bunch of other Maniacs from the forums at www.NowLive.com/Kaeos - Click on the HUGE gawdy banner and you'll get in the live chat room during the show. Very cool thing it is.
****Also, let me make a intro for another Maniac here doing this Internet Radio thing. You may know Immortal1982 from the forums, he not only moderates the Comic Books & Superheros Forum, but he hosts The Unknown Comic Fan on Sundays at 7pm east, 4 pacific!
The Immortal One is joined by Mania's McKracken as they sort out the Comic Book industry and run down new releases, trade paperback recommendations, story arcs, specials, collectibles as well as looking at what's coming up in Comic Books! Last week, Immortal attended ComicCon in NY and brought a ton of great stuff to share on the air!! Definitely check out The Unknown Comic Fan!!****

Hi. My Name. Is Kaeos.
(Sun 04/13/2008 07:28pm)
Howdy Fellow Maniacs.
My name, as mentioned above, Is Kaeos. Pleasure ta meet ya. I wanna tell ya a little about what I do. :O)
I'm a long time poster in the Forums here at Mania, I think I joined some time in early '03. I'm a proud "Lounge Rat " over in the Forums, but I lurk quite a bit here on the main page checking out articles, news and such.
I'm also the Producer and Host of a little Talk Radio program called "Chaotic Radio!!" Which airs LIVE on the Web every Saturday night at 10pm east, 7pm pacific, which is what I really wanted to talk about.
We are an Entertainment News / Satire / Talk Program, we've been on the air now for almost 1 year. Every week I do a full Hollywood and Entertainment Industry Report covering everything from Movies and Music to Television and Gaming.
This past Saturday we covered Naomi Campbell, The opening nights of Prom Night and Street Kings, The Disney / Pixar 2008 Press Release, Vanilla Ice being arrested, Brad Pitt being a jerk, Howard Stern losing his sidekick and A Special Report on how much Reality TV SUCKS.
We also have a lot of freeking fun! We have Callers, Segments, Weird and Strange Headlines, Games, Dueling Top 5 and Top 10 Lists, Guests, Features and a lot more.
A lot of you probably know my co-host on the show, you know him here as Swansong, I call him Gentlemen Death and He's blogged here about the show a few times. He is also the Psychotic Genius behind those "Headlines" I mentioned a minute ago.
I am a true believer in Mania as the #1 Entertainment Site on the web and what we all do here is what has continually inspired Chaotic Radio and what we do on the show. Now, the folks in the Forums have endured a very long, very old thread in the "Asylum" where we talk about the show every week, but my hope is to branch out here on the main page and expand our presence on Mania. I sincerely believe that Chaotic Radio is a logical extension of what Mania stands for.
So I am glad to meet ya, I am hoping you'll check out the show and I'll try to make sure to contribute more content to the front page here. Please check us out at www.myspace.com/chaoticradio or at www.nowlive.com/kaeos.
See ya 'round the site Maniacs!!
