Here is our first chance to meet Greg Weisman, the executive producer of Star Wars Rebels. Many of you will remember his earlier series for Disney, Gargoyles. There isn’t any new footage for images here for Star Wars Rebels, but it is still enough to get hyped for the series. Check out Mania’s coverage (and photos) from the Star Wars Rebels panel at the NYCC (here).
Press Release: Greg Weisman, executive producer of Star Wars Rebels, chats with about Lucasfilm's upcoming animated series, his career journey, and more.

Star Wars Rebels leans towards Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope in terms of tone, Weisman explains, and shows the early days of the Rebellion. When the series begins, the Rebellion is not yet organized, and the series will show how the Alliance forms over the course of seasons. "That is tremendously exciting," he says.

Weisman says he is a longtime geek, having read comics from a young age and getting his start as an editorial assistant at DC Comics. He worked his way up to associate editor and then transitioned into animation, eventually creating the Gargoyles cartoon for Walt Disney Television Animation, and recently worked on Young Justice.

Weisman saw Star Wars for the first time in 1977, when he was 13 years old, and loved it -- but The Empire Strikes Back stands as his favorite film the series. "Empire...blew my mind," he says, and also talks about his favorite Star Wars character and scene.

Despite all the hard work that goes into it, Weisman is very excited about Star Wars Rebels. "It's just really cool," he says.

Question, will they respect the story of Force Unleashed as the Genesis of the Rebellion or will they discard that story and make up a new one, personally i hope they keep it  its a good one.

The Force Unleashed was pretty good.  I never played the game, but I have listened to the audiobooks.

They had better keep the idea that the Force Unleashed happened.  Starkiller rules.  They should have him as a cameo!

Greg Weismann is the man. Gargoyles, Specitacular Spider-Man, Young Justice, were all his shows. He is a fantastic writer and show runner. Had no idea he was involved with this. Even more excited.

Gargoyles is a great sign to the show and rewatchable.  Makes me think Keith David will be involved which would be great, Golith.

 Goliath FTW!

That, and he did Young Justice, thereby being responsible for brining Icon and Rocket to the small screen, makes this new Star Wars show a must see for my tiny corner of geekdom.
