Whatever happened to Patrick Bateman after the events of American Psycho? Well FX is hoping that fans of the original film will want to find out. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that a weekly TV series in the works.
“The drama, which hails from Allison Shearmur, writer Stefan Jaworski and Lionsgate Television, is described as a follow-up to the book and subsequent feature film of the same name”.
The series would revolve around Bateman, now in his mid-50s taking on a protege.

American Psycho is based on “Bret Easton Ellis' controversial 1991 novel revolves around Patrick Bateman, a Manhattan executive with a secret life as a serial killer, and spawned a 2000 feature film adaptation starring Christian Bale. The 1980s-set book and movie depicted Bateman seemingly relishing in his upscale lifestyle and like-minded friends, whom he secretly despised. The feature film was written by Mary Harron and Guinevere Turner, with the former directing. The Lionsgate-produced film grossed $34 million worldwide”.

Let's 2013 we had serial killers on The Killing,  The Bridge, Hannibal and of course Dexter which is The Avengers of serial killer shows.  Recently Hollywood loves serial killers even more than TV with films about Gacy, Dahmer, Bundy, Ed Gein, et al.   There are almost as many serial killer shows as Zombie or Vampire shows.

I think it's time for a Serial Killer Channel (all serial killers, all the time).

He wasn't a serial killer, it was ALL in his head..!!!

Don't forget the Following, Bates Motel, Ripper Street and The Fall.

Um, spoiler alert. No it wasn't all in his head. They left it ambiguous.  And in the book he totally was a killer but not sure if he was really Patrick Bateman or not.

Time for some Phil Collins and tell some bitches " Dont just stare at it, eat it!"

Meh.  I thought they just absolutely decimated the lore and fascination that was The Silence of the Lambs (which I loved), with an absolutely retarded sequel (Hannibal - I blame both Thomas Harris and Hollywood for that).  A prequel that was really nothing more than a Silence of the Lambs rehash (Red Dragon), and an absolutely atrocious, ridiculous idea for a prequel (Hannibal Rising).  There's enough blame for everyone to go around for those.  Result: Not at all interested in the TV series.  The mystery of Hannibal Lecter in Lambs was what made that character so appealing not as an anti-hero, but as a sick, twisted, bad ass...

Tried reading American Psycho, couldn't finish it.  Tried watching the movie, didn't like it, nothing more than a glorified sex and kill fest  Result: not at all interested in the TV series.  When Hollywood intentionally tries to make serial killers cool it falls flat on its' face, IMO.

Now, I still haven't watched Dexter, but may give this a shot here soon because of all the rave about it.  I think it's an original idea and is really what a true "anti-hero" story should be about.  I guess I'll soon see...

Modo i think its a case of you having bad taste and limited knowledge of the source material in regards to the story of Hannibal Lecter. as far as American Psycho goes, it was probably waaay over your head anyways so probably best you didn't finish watching/reading it. It is also likely that you won't get the depth of Dexter either.

This was an excellent movie and even greater acting skills on Bale's part in portraying Patrick Bateman. The commentaries of the movie reveal Leonardo DiCaprio was first attached to the movie but then left since he wanted to change too many things from the book and only Bale wanted to keep it as real and raw as the book.

As far as a TV show goes, not sure it would's one thing to see someone teach how to kill but every week? Meh...

There was American Psycho 2 when a girl killed Patrick Bateman. Maybe that television series is the real sequel to the movie rather then that movie starring Milla Kunis.

I wonder if James Van Der Beek would come in to reprise his role as Patrick's brother?

Also.. in the film it is never actually revealed one way or the other if he is or isn't actually killing.. though it is a neat way of looking at it, and perfctly valid.

American Psycho 2 is denounced by the author and is a horrible movie.
