Charlton Heston Passes Away at 84 - Apr 08, 2008 - 09:18pm
What a shame so many of the last comments reflect the poor tastes and insecurities of those that could only wish that could even be 1/100 of the man Charlton Heston had been.
He was good man. A principled man. He was an actor with integrity, motivation, and spirit.
It's true he was a political activist both progressive and conservative. Throughout his 84 years he stood tall for what he believed in.
The trouble with so many today is that as a people (myself included) we tend to lack the courage of our convictions, and even more often the tact to admit that we might actually be wrong or even ignorant. When someone says something we disagree with, rather that offer a sensible alternate opinion, some people will resort to making snide contrary comments, "shout downs", and or deliver crude and incredulous insults. Worst of all, so many people do this as if to only spite someone with whom they may feel inferior too.
We should not distort the accomplishments of the deceased by placing our (Sorry, but this is sad but true.) loose 21st century values upon them. As I stated before, Mr. Heston was a principled man… And I might add, quite the gentleman! How many of us can claim to be as well adjusted as he was? How many of can even come close to the level of experience of talent he displayed on the screen and yes, even his life?
He is gone now. Another one of my childhood heroes has gone away. There may never be another like him as Hollywood has become close minded and bigoted against most of what is worthy of respect.
I would like to remember Charlton Heston as a cinematic giant, who starred in so many of what would become my favorite films.
Finally my first comment may seem contrived to some of you, but here it is again;
“If, in the afterlife there is a pantheon of great men, real men of righteous conviction and motivation excelled in their art, then I would hope Charlton Heston has gone to join them.”
