Luke, Leia, and Han Return in Episode VII

The story picks up after Return of the Jedi

The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly has an exclusive interview with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. She discuss the future of the franchise and working with Disney. More importantly, we get our Episode VII time frame.
Lucasfilm’s co-chairman and soon-to-be president, Kathleen Kennedy, has told employees she wants the company to produce two or three films a year (it’s averaged fewer than four per decade), and first up is Star Wars: Episode VII for 2015, which will pick up sometime after Darth Vader gave his life to overthrow (figuratively and literally) the Emperor and save Luke in 1983’s Episode VI— Return of the Jedi. Yes, the plan is to return to the characters in the first trilogy (1977–83). Whether the original actors will have significant roles or merely be on hand to pass the baton to a new generation of actors—something Lucasfilm tried with mixed success with Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Disney with TRON: Legacy—is unclear”.
The issue also reports that there could be children's films, animated films, and even a TV movie.
Star Wars Episode VII has a 2015 release date (expect it in May as all Star Wars films have been released in May).

Thanks to DarthoftheDead for the submission.

Hopefully this 3-4 includes some Indy films.

 Good news indeed.

I still really just do not understand why anyone is excited to see an old Han Solo.  I just like to picture him as I last saw him in Return of the Jedi.  Godfather 3 was extra crappy because they aged Michael. I mean, does anyone want to see what...a 70 year old Joker in a Batman movie?  How about a Matrix sequel when Keanu is in his 60's?  Maybe they'll make a Lord of the Rings sequel where everyone is in their 80's.

Maybe the reason Mr Ford is gonna be in the next movie is cause Han Solo will die in a Blaze of glory, just like he wanted all those years ago.....

Awesome. I knew it was gonna go down like this. Those three are the faces of Star Wars. Brand recognition is a good thing. Now all they have to do to make my day is announce that the Solo twins are in. They don't have to follow the books but the characters themselves would fit in great with the idea of Luke being the main Jedi Master of the whole galaxy.

They can do Jedi Knight Leia too and make Han some kind of military or government official. They can have Han be all grumpy about being domesticated and shit with kids and a real job. LOL The writers could take advantage and throw in some comedy that does not suck like the Prequels lame ass jokes did.

Actually this is a good idea. The empire was most likely not defeated at the of ROTJ... The rebels  only destryed a fraction of just one fleet, and I do remember that the rebels were losing big time in the ship to ship fleet battle around the death star. For what ever reason, The Empire made a tactical retreat, thus giving the rebel alliance a pyrrhic victory. I strongly suspect that after the revisioned version with of all the partying after the victory at Endor, the Empire probably brought the hammer down hard. It probably took many many years and many battles to finally bring it down. The three of them would naturally be older and worn down from so much conflict and hard work. I think it would be a classy and great way to start closing down the era of the main three and passing on of the torch to others to continue the fight.

Axia777, I concede! You win!

My thought was that George's new trilogy would simply avoid using the original trinity (hallowed be their names) just to avoid messing with the Expanded Universe and having a clean slate to work with. Looks like they will get some work out of this though. How much and in what way we will have to see.

I don't mind at all. The fan in me wants so much to see Jedi Master Luke tutor younglings and also whip out that lightsaber and kick some ass!

Given todays technology all they would really need to do is get them to lend their voices, then just  their characters could be animated like Avatar. The technology is good enough that we couldnt tell the difference.

The next trilogy could take place one day after the end of ROTJ if thats the case

The "two for three films per year" comment was clearly simply Kennedy misspeaking.  She obviously meant a film every two or three years.

No monkeyfoot, we all win. This is going to kick ass. I am so very excited that they are taking this all so seriously and are not trying to just make a quick buck off of the Star Wars name. I am confident that this will be the best Star Wars since Empire Strikes Back.
