 Bunyon, I think you are off by at least 10 years.  My recollection of the Frank Miller original was Batman/Bruce has been gone ffrom the scene for roughly 10 years and is now in his mid to late 50s. 

Freestrike: If Batman was not fictional, if you were to compare Sly to Bruce, Sly only played a toughman on film. Bruce spent how many years punishing his body?  It takes its toll. 

 I still think Damian Robin sucks.  Can we have a public poll to see if he lives or dies? LOL
