2 More Writers for Star Wars?

Rumors on Episode VIII and IX

By Robert T. Trate     November 20, 2012

Rumors, hearsay, or the truth?
Deadline is reporting that Empire Strikes Back co-screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan has been hired by Disney to pen Episode VIII and IX. Further more, X-Men: First Class screenwriter Simon Kinberg will be assisting in writing duties as well.
All this will follow the 50 page treatment that Michael Arndt (Toy Story 3) has written featuring the further adventures of what could be Luke, Leia and Han. They are said to be in the treatment yet, the scope of their involvement is not yet known.
Personally, I see this as good news because Kasdan’s input on the prequel’s was sorely lacking. Kinberg also had a hand in Sherlock Holmes and penned the script for X-Men: Days of Future Present
Mike Fleming Jr., does say: “I’ve heard Disney has approached Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg and I believe it is to get the ball rolling on the subsequent installments mapped out by Lucas”.

UPDATE:

The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision had this to say as of 4:41 PM Tuesday afternoon.

“Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg have closed deals to write installments of the new Star Wars trilogy, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. The pair will write either Episode VIII or Episode IX -- their exact division of responsibilities is yet to be determined -- and also will come aboard to produce the films”.

Having anyone involved with ESB with the next trilogy boasts well for the next trilogy, Pretty impressive group so far if true

Empire is still the best starwars movie, putting someone that was attached to it on the team is such good news. Good job Disney!

Empire Strikes back was the best movie in the original trilogy.  With Kasdan joining the creative team only good things can be expected!

Hell. Yeah. As much as I do love all the films despite their faults, TESB is without a doubt the best of the six, and it's Kasdan's input on ROTJ that makes it so epic (Lucas added the slapstick ewok action).

So far so go. Just like being back in the 80s.

I think the fact that ESB is recognized as the best of the SW movies is why Disney got Kasdan. I wonder if they might also hire Carrie Fisher as a writer, too. She is recognized as agood script doctor in Hollywood. She will step in and re-write certain scenes in movies that aren't flowing well. She also wrote some episodes of the Indiana Jones TV series.

Anyone who had doubts about Disney now?

Whoever is running the show on these movies to get going is not doubt going where the success was. They seemed to be listening to what the fans disliked of the prequels.

So don't expect little kids that say "yippee", gungans and ewoks.

I like that Kasdan worked on 5 & 6 and the Shadows of the Empire story line.I wonder if he will tie in some of the "Shadows" elements or at lest make a mention of it since Shadows was a Lucasfilm project. PS - I would love to see a animated Shadows movie. My son loved the story and we have a very unfinished version of it floating on Youtube.

Either way, thumbs up for having Kadan get aboard. I believe that he was also involved in the Radio Drama series.

As long as they keep out the Ewoks and Jar Jar, I'm in.
