Max von Sydow Takes on Henry in THE TUDORS - Aug 06, 2008 - 12:47pm
Well, this is supposed to be Henry when he was younger. They have introduced how he got to be such a big boy in season one, when a doctor told him the best way to avoid the sweating sickness was to have a healthy appetite.

Update: Morgan Freeman Okay After Car Accident - Aug 04, 2008 - 04:26pm
The complete and total lack of concern for this great man astonishes me.

Update: Morgan Freeman Okay After Car Accident - Aug 04, 2008 - 02:13pm
From what I just saw on CNN Morgan was joking and laughing with the EMT's and the cop onsite, so hopefully he's not in that bad of a shape. Best wishes and prayers, man.

SDCC: McG Praises Bale in TERMINATOR - Jul 28, 2008 - 03:01pm
I know one thing...Batman wouldn't put a finger on his mama!

Mumbling Kitsune: Flipping Through Batman: Gotham Knight - Jul 28, 2008 - 12:56pm
I can agree with this review better than Nadia's last one. I think everyone agrees 'Story for you' wasn't a very good story to begin with, especially compared to 'Shadows of the Bat' from the original series. It was further hurt by that God-awful animation. As for the acting, except for Batman, nobody has much TO say, period. And I hate to say it, but in terms of a script, a story, it wasn't the best thing ever. Pretty much like everybody else, I agree the Deadshot story was the highlight of the piece, but we've all seen better. I continue to say that the commentary was actually the highlight for me, because we get some insight from Kevin Conroy, himself. lol I will say this...Kevin has a better Bat-Voice then Bale! Bale sounds like he needs a cough drop.

Michael Rymer Confirmed for WITCHBLADE - Jul 22, 2008 - 02:33pm
I loved the comic, but agree the tv show was pretty terrible in everyway that would have really made it 'Witchblade'...the special effects, the witchblade itself, etc. lol I hate to say this but the woman who played Pezzini...every show she was ever in flopped. I can't remember her name, but I can remember her playing an android back in this old 80's NBC show called 'Mann and Machine'. The title alone tells you everything you need to know.

DVD Shopping Bag: Unto Every DVD Generation - Jul 22, 2008 - 12:18pm
I have said and will continue to say that the current Batman animated show is a very, very poor shadow of B:TAS. I seem to be in the minority of those I've talked to, but that's what I believe. By the way, Best Buy has pretty much EVERY DC animated feature on sale CHEAP. I picked up Justice League for like $17 a pop.

Sci-Fi Announces New Genre Slate - Jul 21, 2008 - 04:38pm
The What if? one is the only one that sounds half way interesting.

DVD Review of THE BATMAN: Complete 5th Season - Jul 21, 2008 - 04:36pm
Both series started off as ways for the WB to cash in on their Batman movies, the original and Begins, respectively, but you are completely right, Dazzler, there's no comparison with B:TAS and this pablum.

Mumbling Kitsune: A Very Animated Batman - Jul 21, 2008 - 02:31pm
Wait a minute! Where does he get off calling Justice League a copy??? Bruce Timm, Kevin Conroy, and just about everybody you could name who worked on Batman: The Animated Series worked on Justice League. It's not an 'imitator', it's a continuation. Moron.

And The New T-800 TERMINATOR Is...? - Jul 17, 2008 - 05:45pm
As to the series number, the TV show (and how cannonical that is is debatable) and T3 (which shouldn't be cannon AT ALL in my opinion! lol) they've pretty much established that there ARE deferent models within a series, but unless I'm mistaken, it was different model numbers like T-888, and so forth. Concerning the 'new' terminator, maybe I'm reading it wrong, but is it possible that he's a human that Skynet uses as a basic template for the Terminator flesh-suits? That could account for the 20 year discrepancy. I mean how old was Arnold in the first movie? Mid to late 30's, I think.

First Teaser Trailer for TERMINATOR SALVATION - Jul 16, 2008 - 04:55pm
Sweet. Kinda herky-jerky and no terminators, but still...sweet.

DVD Shopping Bag: One Disc, Two Disc, Blue Disc? - Jul 09, 2008 - 10:40am
I'm agreeing with Redhair on this one. I'm not a huge fan of anime to begin with, except for a few things, but that first segement was horrendous. The rest of it is pretty good, especially the part that looks like it was done by Mike Mignola. The stories were pretty good, fans of the original series should be able to tell which one is Alan Burnett's. The thing I love about this DVD is that finally, finally, FINALLY we've got KEVIN CONROY doing an audio commentary! I'm buying the dvd (I rented it first, see above comments regarding anime) just on the basis of that.

TV Wasteland: Stargate's Back Minus One Character - Jul 07, 2008 - 01:23pm
Don said it best himself on a number of occasions...Godspeed, Mr. Davis.

Comic Review: CAPTAIN AMERICA #38 - Jun 05, 2008 - 01:53pm
Ha! I'm with you much drama; it was .40 when I started in the late seventies. I like what they're doing with Cap. Almost against my will I think I may start collecting again. Oh, wait, no. I have a car with a gas habit!

Burton Directing Depp in DARK SHADOWS - Jun 03, 2008 - 12:30pm
Holy crap, how did I miss hearing about this??? I don't mind Burton and Depp working together. Admittedly, they do it a lot, but they usually make a damn good movie together.

New HULK Trailer on Best Buy DVDs - Jun 03, 2008 - 12:26pm
Pushing the hell outta linking it to the old show, aren't they?

DreamWorks Planning Pirate Film on BLACKBEARD - May 20, 2008 - 12:36pm
Eh, Blackbeard is overated as a pirate. Black Bart Roberts was a hundred times worse and more succesful than Teach ever was. That would be a good movie. Besides, they already did a Blackbeard. Thing was so bad it went straight to video.

McKellen Confirms His Return of GANDALF - May 01, 2008 - 02:43pm
'Preciate that, fft.

McKellen Confirms His Return of GANDALF - May 01, 2008 - 12:24pm
I've asked this question before, but nobody seems to have an answer (or at least no one answered). Why is Peter Jackson not directing this movie??? I had thought it was the legal issues with New Line that were preventing it, but that's over so far as I know, so what's the deal???

Ewan McGregor Helping Hank's DEMONS - Apr 28, 2008 - 12:14pm
There was another guy, Pony. One of the Swiss Guards. I can see Ewan playing this guy before the Pope.

Del Toro Confirmed for HOBBIT Films - Apr 28, 2008 - 12:12pm
I'm probably about to ask a dumb question, but why isn't Jackson directing? I thought all the legal rigamaroll was settled.

Showtime's TUDORS Approved for Third Go - Apr 24, 2008 - 05:55pm
Well, genre does mean 'type', so in that regard it fits, of course. But beyond that, I think just the fact that it is a period piece/costume drama might qualify. Or maybe whoever posted this has a thing for Anne Bolyne!

Three New TV Spots for IRON MAN - Apr 24, 2008 - 12:27pm
And how in the name of God do I get rid of this fat little vampire kid??? Somebody Please Tell Me!!!!!!!!

Three New TV Spots for IRON MAN - Apr 24, 2008 - 12:26pm

HA! Tell me about it Jarrod!

First Pic of Joe's SCARLETT Revealed - Apr 16, 2008 - 04:15pm
Well, she's got red hair and a crossbow...although if memory serves, it should be bigger. Man, I hope they don't screw this up. Oh, and for the record, if anybody from Mania is listening, not loving the changes so far.

Dresden Files: Small Favor - Apr 15, 2008 - 10:46am
This'll be my third attempt to make a comment, so here goes. I read the first three chapters of the book last night, excellent blend of fantasy and reality that I've come to expect from Butcher. My idea for putting Harry on the small screen is to use to books as the basis for story acrs. Tell a book in four-eight episodes, depending on its length and what goes on.

Charlton Heston Passes Away at 84 - Apr 07, 2008 - 04:44pm
While I'm saddened by his death, after what I've seen on some other blogs regarding his death, I'm incredibly proud of the MANIA community for at least showing respect and due reverence for the passing of this amazing actor. Props to everybody.

Three More Join Whedon's DOLLHOUSE - Mar 27, 2008 - 10:17am
On the one hand, everything I hear about this (from the creative end) makes me think this is gonna be really cool. On the other hand...Fox and sci-fi/fantasy generally don't play well together. I'm hoping Terminator and Dollhouse will mark a change in that track record.

Arthur C. Clarke Passes Away at 90 - Mar 19, 2008 - 05:55pm
Geez, man, we're losing all the great ones....

First Look at Rick Baker's WOLFMAN - Mar 19, 2008 - 05:53pm
NOW THAT'S WHAT A ****** WEREWOLF IS SUPPOSED TO LOOK LIKE!!!

Berg Confirmed for DUNE - Mar 18, 2008 - 01:53pm
Really encouraged by the news that the producer of the miniseries is onboard with this production.

D&D Co-Creator Passes Away - Mar 05, 2008 - 12:30pm
I'm gonna probably get flamed to death for this, but there's a song by George Jones, 'Who's gonna fill their shoes?' That's all I can think of right now. I can't think of anybody fit to POLISH Gygax's shoes, much less fill 'em.

Sneak Peek at SG1: Ark of Truth - Mar 04, 2008 - 09:59am
I completely understand why RDA isn't in this, I can't fault the man for putting his family first, but with being the (almost) end of it, you'd think he'd want to be around for both DVD's. I desperatly wanted him to be, anyway.

WB Preparing JUSTICE LEAGUE for 2009 - Feb 27, 2008 - 03:01pm
I also thought it coulda been a little longer. After the huge build up over the Center, I felt a little cheated by the battle. I much prefered the inner conflicts of Hal Jordan and Jon Jonzz and the social conflict all the heros were going through. And I loved the historical references.

WB Preparing JUSTICE LEAGUE for 2009 - Feb 27, 2008 - 02:30pm
The reason this is being rammed forward is because in terms or number of movies made and money made, Marvel is slaughtering them. Heck, even Dark Horse has gotten out more movies than they have, in this current wave of comic movies. They want to get there piece of pie before there's none left. Their urgency to get the movie made quickly makes me fear for it, but I still have hopes. Ha, refering back to Wessmith's comment, I loved New Frontier! Maybe DC and WB should give the thing to Dini and Timm. I don't think those guys could produce a bad script if they tried.

Jon Favreau Talks IRON MAN - Feb 27, 2008 - 02:23pm
I'm with Pony on this one; good stuff Mr. Favreau.

BIONIC WOMAN Officially Axed by NBC? - Feb 21, 2008 - 12:24pm
I didn't think it was all that bad a show. It definetly had some HUGE shoes to fill and that might be a big part of why fan reception wasn't what was hoped for. I had hoped that they would develop the characters more, but I guess that is not to be. Anybody heard anything about Journeyman?

Tolkien Estate Sues New Line - Feb 13, 2008 - 04:01pm
I'm not prepared to say New Line's crooked, at least not anymore than any other big buisness that's out to make as much money as it possibly can, but this is getting ridiculous. Somebody in legal or accounting needs to get their act together.

Eccleston Plans to Destroy G.I JOE - Feb 13, 2008 - 02:59pm
Mine did the same thing. It's on my page, but it's not on here.

Eric Bana Talks STAR TREK Role - Feb 13, 2008 - 02:53pm
Frankly, this scares the hell outta me. How good can the antagonist be, how strong a prescence on screen can he be, and what can he bring to the story when the actor playing him describes him as a "cameo"???

BSG Returns to Sci-Fi April 4 - Feb 13, 2008 - 02:44pm
CANNOT WAIT! The specials...eh, I could live without 'em. I don't watch much tv, but for this one I make damn sure I'm home!

No Dinobots in TRANSFORMERS 2 - Feb 13, 2008 - 02:37pm
I'm with those who held up Bay as an good action movie producer/director. Looking forward to TF2 with or without Dinobots, though I was looking forward to the big, dumb goofs.

Worthington Leads TERMINATOR Trilogy - Feb 13, 2008 - 02:22pm
We must not have read the same article, Hobbs. It states that McG contacted Cameron. Cameron recommended an actor for a part. McG cast that actor in that part. If that doesn't qualify as involvement, perhaps we have different interpretations of the word. And I never said Cameron had a problem wtih T3. I said I wished he'd directed it, which, in my opinion, would have improved a movie I considered campy and predictable, at best.

Indy IV Trailer is Attached to JUMPER - Feb 13, 2008 - 02:11pm
Actually, I'll just wait for the trailer to hit the web rather than waste ten bucks.

Bettany Helps Humanity in LEGION - Feb 13, 2008 - 12:14pm
This sounds pretty interesting. I like the idea of Micheal being our defender instead of smiting the heck outta us as usual.

Worthington Leads TERMINATOR Trilogy - Feb 13, 2008 - 12:11pm
I didn't love T3. To me it was nowhere near the calibre of the first two films; hell, the television show has proven better so far. I think the primary reason for that was a lack of Cameron, and I'm SO glad he is at least giving advice on this, but I'd rather have him in director's chair. Nothing against McG, but Terminator is pretty much Cameron's baby.

Indy IV Trailer is Attached to JUMPER - Feb 13, 2008 - 12:04pm
Damn it, I really didn't want to see Jumper...

Eccleston Plans to Destroy G.I JOE - Feb 12, 2008 - 12:14pm
I'm divided on this one. On the one hand, I wanted a scot to play Destro, and Eccleston is from Northern England...most non-Britons can't tell the difference. He's also one hell of an actor; never seen him in anything I didn't love--Dr. Who and Elizabeth, personal favorites. On the other hand, he IS kinda small to be playing Destro. Maybe he can bulk up some. On the whole I'm gonna say HALLE-FREAKIN'-LEUJAH!

Jaws Star Roy Scheider Passes Away - Feb 11, 2008 - 02:25pm
This one hurt. This really was like losing someone you knew. I gotta agree with Wessmith, I don't think I ever saw anything this man was in that he didn't knock it outta the park...even Seaquest (I liked it too, before the flames start, but it was a flawed vehicle, no reflection on Roy)

Klingons, Super Models & Conan, Oh My! - Feb 08, 2008 - 11:53am
At the risk of displaying an ungodly amount of geekiness, I remember from the back in the day that Covergirl acutally had been a model before joining the army and becoming a tank-jokey, so it does kinda fit. And hey, maybe it'll be worthwhile. Cameron Diaz turned into an okay actress, in certain roles.

Ledger's Death Ruled Accidental OD - Feb 06, 2008 - 05:21pm
My only thoughts on this are that no matter if you are a person of one faith or another, or of no faith at all, the truth is Ledger is beyond all this now. Let the dead rest in peace. Condolences to those he left behind.

SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES: Heavy Metal - Feb 06, 2008 - 02:46pm
I never actually said she was cute; I said I loved her. I do, however, think she IS very attractive, but that is my opinion. As to cute being unsuitable for a Terminator, let's examine a few things. First, Terminators are infiltration units; they get close to targets before destroying them. Over the course of the movies, we've seen this ability improve, from the 600 series with its rubber skin, to the flesh-covered 800, to the memetic 1000 and T-X. Now these are all examples of physical camo used for infilitration, but the Terminators have also shown they are capable of BEHAVIORAL infiltration as well. The 800 in T2 evolved to have rudimentary human emotions. The 1000 was capable of making somewhat effective small talk. In essence they become more adept at mimicing human behavior, enhancing their infiltration abilities. That said, why is being 'cute' unacceptable? Are you more likely to trust the large, dangerous-looking, oddly-behaving male or the small, attractive (cute), oddly-behaving female? All that aside, Glau's Terminator has stated she is 'Different'.

SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES: Heavy Metal - Feb 06, 2008 - 01:09pm
I have to say I've been more than pleasantly surprised by this show. Generally speaking, tv shows based on movies not only tank, they do so hard and fast, but this one I've been happy to see succeed. The writing has been good, the acting also, and I love Summer Glau, so I hope this thing continues to role right along.

Rise Up and Hear the Bells: The Return of Captain America - Jan 30, 2008 - 03:39pm
I'm probably in the minority with this, but I'm down with this. I think it'll make for some good story telling. Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier IS NOT Steve Rogers or his version of Captain America. He won't deal with problems the way Steve Rogers did, even though it was Steve's final wish that he fill his shoes. That's going to introduce internal conflict to the character all by itself.

Destro Has been Cast?? - Jan 30, 2008 - 12:27pm
It was first established in the marvel comic that he was the thirteenth Earl of McCullen, a Scottish lord (laird) and that the Iron Grenadiers were his household guard. Later the cartoon (which I hated compared to the comic, sorry guys) picked up on that and even that he was related to Lady J. I agree he needs to have a great voice. My only concern with Micheal Dorn is that he's getting up there. I think they'd have to do a James Earl Jones/Darth Vader thing if they picked him. As to him being the main bad guy, it fits the mythos. Destro was the Field Commander for Cobra usually, with Cobra Commander being in Strategic Command. Duke and Hawk have a similar relationship.

Destro Has been Cast?? - Jan 30, 2008 - 10:56am
I sure as hell hope this guy can act. Yeah, he's wearing a mask, but that means he's got to be an even better actor cause we have to be able to get everything through that mask! Remember Hugo Weaving in V? And honestly, I was hoping for a Scot. I mean, Destro's a Scot, for crying out loud.

Update: Quaid, Vosloo & Tatum Confirmed For G.I JOE - Jan 29, 2008 - 12:38pm
Okay, Hawk's in as team leader. I'll quit bitching now.

Hoskins, Firth, Oldman Joins CHRISTMAS CAROL - Dec 03, 2007 - 06:21pm
Sweet. It's great story, but I really don't understand the need to do it CGI/Motion capture.

Billie Piper Returns to DR. WHO - Nov 28, 2007 - 12:39pm
And can you imagine the cat-fight between Rose and Martha??? All we need is Sarah Jane and it'd be perfect!

Billie Piper Returns to DR. WHO - Nov 28, 2007 - 12:37pm
YEEEEEHAAAAW (Leave me alone I'm southern)!!!!!!!! Between this and the winning lottery ticket this is one damn good day! On a more serious note, while I'm not happy about the delay in season 4, it's not the end of the world. It whets the viewing public's appetite for more, and keeps Tennet from getting burned out by doing something else he loves. AND BILLIE'S COMING BACK!

New Look at Ledger's JOKER - Nov 27, 2007 - 06:36pm
I dunno...call me a purist but I prefer the classic duds...still think the movie will blow you out the back of the theatre though!

Ben Cross as Sarek in STAR TREK - Nov 19, 2007 - 04:39pm
Bout time he got a semi-decent part again instead of the sci-fi channel flub-up of the week.

Greenwood Talks CAPTAIN PIKE Role - Nov 15, 2007 - 12:56pm
I'm not normally such a stickler for this kind of thing, but I think just for continuity's sake, the ship should remain the same. I'm not saying not to spice it up, but both DS9 and Enterprise have shown that the old ship can be made to look pretty cool with modern special effects.

Greenwood Talks CAPTAIN PIKE Role - Nov 15, 2007 - 12:55pm

Stallone Talks About RAMBO - Nov 15, 2007 - 12:48pm
Study your history; that's EXACTLY what we are. Out of roughly 3-4 thousand years there's always been somebody at war with somebody else. Aside from that, does anybody else feel that Stallone is tying up loose ends before he retires?

JLA Cast Possibly Locked & Ready - Nov 14, 2007 - 06:37pm
I thought they decided to pass on the aussie chick...although I saw her in Macbeth, she probably could pull off the acting of WW; don't know about the physicality...she'd have to do some hellacious training...and stand on a lot of apple crates!

CAPTAIN AMERICA Returns Briefly For Special Issue - Nov 14, 2007 - 12:48pm

CAPTAIN AMERICA Returns Briefly For Special Issue - Nov 13, 2007 - 06:41pm
A lot of guys in service appreciate what Marvel did...and they appreciate what Cap stands for. You can call him what you want to, say he's out of step with the times, but he's like Superman, Batman...and for that matter Beowulf, Gilgamesh, Sampson, King Arthur...he's an icon. He's the ideal of a hero with our own American twist...which has been reflected in every incarnation he's undergone, from Ideal Patriot to Jaded Idealist. He'll always be around.

Josh Lucas Searches For TELL-TALE HEART - Nov 07, 2007 - 07:48pm
I teach this thing every semester. It's NOTHING like this!

BRUCE WAYNE Getting Shelved? - Nov 07, 2007 - 12:54pm
This is comic book death we're talking about here. It never takes.

Marvel's Joe Quesada Talks AVENGERS - Nov 07, 2007 - 12:48pm
Sounds like basic good story telling to me. Get the origins out of the way with the indivdual movies, have something to link them together down the road, Nick Fury, like Wessmith said, then bring it all together. Course, this means we'd have the Avengers movie no earlier than something like 2011 or 2012.

New MIST Trailer Appears Online - Nov 06, 2007 - 02:33pm
It was one of my favorites too, but I remember being frustrated as a kid by not know what the hell the mist was and where it came from!

Hasbro Clarifies G.I JOE Storyline - Nov 05, 2007 - 09:18pm
IMHO the cartoon was horrible compared to Larry Hama's comic book. I hope they go more by that than the cartoon. Oh, and for the record, Hawk was the leader in both genres. Duke was Top Kick.
