The Lone Ranger Character Posters

Who else?

Walt Disney has released two new character posters for The Lone Ranger. I think it would have been better to tease us with some of side characters first. We’ve see the Lone Ranger and Tonto in all the promos. Some of the other characters should be featured on posters like these as well.

Plot Concept: Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) and man of the law John Reid (Armie Hammer) are opposites brought together by fate and must join forces to battle greed and corruption.

The Lone Ranger features Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer, Tom Wilkinson, William Fichtner, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale, Ruth Wilson, and Helena Bonham Carter. The film is directed by Gore Verbinski.

The Lone Ranger enters theaters on May 31, 2013.

In the age of hugely produced Superhero and sci-fi movies, it must suck to be a movie like this....

Lol, I thought this had already come and gone without my noticing!  Seriously, I saw the trailer over the holidays and the Super Bowl ads, but I never heard anything more about it.  I just assumed it already left the theaters, and I was expecting this to be an article about the Blu-Ray release.

You can tell how excited I am about this one!

Come on, Violator - that's what they said about Pirates of the Caribean!

After seeing the trailers for this, I could not be less excited about a movie (well I am less excited about Transformers, but not by much).

fuck all that,  i'm watching this and transformers.. heck if i watched Gi joe 2 , then this should be right up there with them also. Stupid fun.

Violator, Lone Ranger is a superhero right!!? He has a mask , came back from the dead, and kills bad guys, seems like a superhero to me, .. well not so shure bout the coming back from the dead but still, a crime fighter..

Zillaman, just like you, I am looking forward to The Lone Ranger but with caution, in large part because I watched the classic series as kid when they re-ran them during the early days of syndication and they also air currently on Starz Western.

Also I want to see how it plays out and if it will be able to shake off its first 1981 theatrical attempt, The Legend of The Lone Ranger, which all honestly wasn't as horrible as it was made out to be. Just it got bogged in its own muck of a slow, shoddy origin plot which it took up nearly almost 3/4 of the film time before The Ranger made his screen presence. And that it didn't help that the film star playing the lead, Klinton Spilsbury was dubbed the entire film.

Plus the fact that film was a financial and public relations disaster with die-hard fans of the old series as it happened during the time of the whole falling out with classic tv series star Clayton Moore (in his mid-60's at that point doing public appearances and conventions) when Universal gained the rights in order to do the film, they prevented him from wearing his garb (only temporarily and Moore later counter-sued) since they didn't want people to thinking an old man was reprising the character.

Looking at the trailer for months, it looks like an updated version of the failed '81 film following the concept of his origin, except laced with Depp humor (hope its kept in small doses, though I shudder to ask how the horse ends up with the hat on its head) and amping up the sex appeal and action.

 Momitchell & Zilla- I suppose so...... But , Y'ALL know what I mean!! ; )

They should just change the name to John Carter 2 because that's about how successful this movie is going to be.  AH is not a very good actor, Depp looks ridiculous (and I think his box office appeal is waning) and Verbinski's Pirates are bloated nonsense.  It'll be loud, lots of 'splotions and a thin plot; they spent $250 million on a movie that I don't think looks very good in the previews.  If you can't make a movie look appealing in a 2 minute preview then it's going to be an uphill battle all the way to turn a profit.

I really like the Lone Ranger character.  I also grew up watching the Clayton Moore series.  And while the series might be considered on the racist side by depicting Tonto as a monosyllabic "Indian," at least they used an actual Native American for the part.  I understand wanting to use star power to attract attention to the film, but this whole white painted Indian thing smacks a little too much like a version of Blackface to me.  There are a lot of talented Native American actors out there that could've played Tonto.
