We finally have an official title and synopsis for The Avengers spin off TV series called MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Check out the official press release below. A release date of 2013 is all that is still known for the series.

Official Press Release:

Joss Whedon (MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) shows us not all heroes are super with MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.

Fresh from his role in the summer’s box office smash, MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS, Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) returns to the worldwide law enforcement organization S.H.I.E.L.D. He puts together a small, highly trained, team of Agents to tackle the cases that haven’t been classified yet, the new, the strange and the unknown. That team consists of straight arrow Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), an expert in combat and espionage; pilot and martial artist Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen); and brilliant if socially awkward scientists Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge). They’ll be joined by civilian new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet).

Prepare for an epic adventure that showcases the hope and wonder of the human spirit. This is a world of Super Heroes, aliens and the unusual – of action, spectacle and world spanning stories. The show will speak to the human condition through the lens of our very human, non-powered S.H.I.E.L.D agents – that together we are greater than we are apart, and that we can make a difference in the world.

Executive Produced and co-written by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen (Dollhouse, Dr.Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog), Jeffrey Bell (Angel, Alias) and Jeph Loeb (Smallville, Lost, Heroes) comes Marvel’s first live-action TV series, MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.

Isn't he dead?

This has the potential to be great.  It also has the potential to be not so great.  I don't think this is going to be guaranteed of being a slam dunk hit like a lot of people out there think.  I just don't envision the stories of this series being as comic book oriented as what many people out there are thinking, but I could be wrong.

Needless to say, I'll be looking forward to this with much anticipation.

Let's wait until after the next few movies come out this year before we speculate as to how truly dead agent Coulson is.  There has been tons of theories already proposed, but I think we may have our answer before this series hits the airwaves.

Character "killed" in a comic book universe anybody really dead?

mharsha 4/7/2013 8:09:41 PM

This would be a great way to introduce some smaller characters that wouldn't quite translate well on the big screen. I can see this being great, but like millean said, it could be a flop too.

I would guess this would be set before Avengers

I get a vibe they had trouble with Shield title with old cop show Shield.  Now it's Marvel's Shield.

This should be fun.

Plus Coulson didn't really "die", Fury said he was down. Never saw the body after. Easy explanation.

I sure hope it's not a prequel. I would love references to the Marvel movies. I would also love a guest appearance by one of the characters. Even if it's the lesser characters from the movies, at least we would get the sense being all tied together. They could get Dr Erik Selvig, Doc Samson (Ty Burrell?), Kat Dennings, etc...

I do want this to be set before the Marvel movies. It could be fun to have a season or 2 of crazy things happening before any of the big guns arrive on the scene. Build up to Fury needing to create the Avengers to deal with the stuff agents can't handle. I really think it would work well.

millean 4/8/2013 7:15:32 AM

I thought they already said that this was going to be set after the events of The Avengers?  Was I the only one to get the memo, or was that memo a fake?

Maybe you guys didn't see it because of the TPS report cover sheet that was attached.  :)
