Box Office: Scott's Lies, Quarantine Defeated by Disney's CHIHUAHUA - Oct 13, 2008 - 10:46am
Yeah Hanzo my friend. Oh I can see the controversy surrounding ZACK & MIRI. However that movie will make for a very interesting gauge at the box office when it comes out.
And Traci Lords, probably the first ex-porn star to successfully have an acting career without getting too much heat because of her past ties with the porn industry....and still smokin' hot I might add for a 40'ish chick. I wonder what made her want to do this movie?? Probably to poke fun at herself.
Be curious to see what other players current or former porn stars may be in this movie.
Peter Dinklage? Ron Jeremy?
Box Office: Scott's Lies, Quarantine Defeated by Disney's CHIHUAHUA - Oct 13, 2008 - 05:24am
Dazzler, you never cease to amaze me during one of your Shia rants. Now if only you could do soundbites about it. I like Shia a hair better than you, but at times he does make you wanna strangle him and buzz cut his cherished hair.
Meanwhile I'll be catching QUARANTINE on Tuesday. As far as BODY OF LIES goes....it looks good, but to me it seems more fitting of a summer release than an October release because actioners generally don't do too hot during this time of the month.
And don't EVEN get me started with CHIHUAHUAS. I moaned and groaned along with other people when I first saw the trailer during IRONMAN at the theaters. But hey...appearently has done a better job as opposed to last year's atrocity that was UNDERDOG.
Phil LaMarr is Gambit on new WOLVERINE toon - Oct 08, 2008 - 01:07pm
Actually Flint and will need to research this to be correct, but Joker was done by Kevin Michael Richardson...and he sounded WAY TOO MUCH like Chester Cheetah. It definitely didn't work. Everytime he opened his mouth, I kept thinking "IT ISN'T BEING CHEESY" everytime Joker made his appearance
Box Office: Paramount Has An EAGLE EYE for Victory - Sep 28, 2008 - 03:43pm
Not so fast Hanzo my friend...DARK KNIGHT will get another crack once its re-released in January and that clearly means its getting Oscar considerations and generally movies that get re-released while getting Oscar buzz wind up making additional box-office cash as evidenced last year with "NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN" and "THERE WILL BE BLOOD". However, with DARK KNIGHT coming out in December on DVD, not too sure how that strategy will work successfully, unless WB plans on delaying DARK KNIGHT til after its re-release which actually may be a smarter idea to simply delay its DVD release.
Then again, I have yet to catch DARK KNIGHT on IMAX so that will be an incentive for me to go out and see it again. Or unless they plan on releasing a director's cut of the movie which will most of us know that much was left on the cutting room floor.
And while I haven't been to the movies lately, with being busy working and tinkering with story ideas for a simple mock SUPERMAN story...now that they made the decision to suddenly wipe the slate clean which killed our mock BATMAN 3 story, which had an early appearance of Lois Lane coming to Gotham to get more on the exclusive recent events shortly after The Joker's reign of terror and maybe a cameo by Luthor and the seeds of LexCorp.
Now I can't wait for Dazzler to go postal because we all know how she feels about Shia. She probably might try to be mean and want to squeeze Shia's injured hand for all the love she shows....which isn't very much.
DVD Review of Iron Man: Ultimate 2-Disc Edition - Sep 28, 2008 - 02:24pm
Thank you Hanzo my friend for some enlightenment on the subject. OH WAIT.....HE MIGHT THINK ITS FANBOY WHINING so you might want to be careful or he'll start on you personally.
DVD Review of Iron Man: Ultimate 2-Disc Edition - Sep 28, 2008 - 02:21pm
One other thing...I reported you smart-ass so that they can see, how this all got started instead of it being a one-sided complaint on your part. While I apologized to Mania for being testy with my comments because I normally don't sound off to ridiculous tirades like yours...you on the other hand doesn't deserve one because you got under my skin....personally. And if you can't handle the shit you shovel, then get out of the shitpit.
DVD Review of Iron Man: Ultimate 2-Disc Edition - Sep 28, 2008 - 01:47pm
And since you don't know me very well obviously, I'm generally a cool guy and most that know me, can attest to that. But no, what did you say to me directly?? And I wasn't the only one that made a complaint so appearently you singled me out for a reason and I wonder why?? I definitely don't see FANBOY used at them so it seems you have a problem. Now if you ever took the time the read the other posts....not much FANBOY inference was used by the others here so how you came to that conclusion is beyond me. And I already told you, you earned getting chomped on for being cute and personal. And what I also find funny is......I never seen much of you and don't knkow you and you don't know me and I'm not on here everyday so once again you making claims of something you have lack of info on so it really makes me laugh when you say I'm on here everyday. HAHAHA. And it people like YOU we grow tire of, especially when you start to resort to the ever-popular FANBOY CARD. And after you mouth off to me directly like you did, and you wonder why I mouthed off on you. So you better check yourself. I wouldn't have sounded off most likely had you not directed your remarks into a personal shot at me and would have just left it be and laughed it off, but you didn't do that didn't you?? No you didn't.....so who's the childish one here...and you stupiditly wonder why you're getting chewed.
DVD Review of Iron Man: Ultimate 2-Disc Edition - Sep 28, 2008 - 01:40pm
Oh ToddM...you made a comment about fanboy issues and the such and wasn't even the topic. But you wanted to get cute with your smart ass. And you pretty sure thought you were. And why I sounded off?? It was because of what you said directly....yeah, who was childish from the first sentence?? And once again...what did fanboy had to do with this?? DVD REVIEW....not only film itslf...but the goodies that comes with it. And yet, you keep makin this a fanboy issue. It wasn't much of a DVD review and I said what was said, but you got real cute with your post ToddM and you made it personal from the get-go.
DVD Review of Iron Man: Ultimate 2-Disc Edition - Sep 28, 2008 - 01:07pm
ToddM...this had nothing to do with fanboy shit. Its suppose to be a DVD review...not another film only review of a movie we already know about. So my suggestion to you ToddM is to shut your fuckin mouth and know your role before I pop your ass...with a skillet upside your goddamn head you mealy mouth helfa. Don't even try to cross words with me because you playin games with the wrong person. READ IT, READ IT, SMELL IT AND SUCK IT, you male ho. PISS ASS, READ IT NEXT TIME!! And oh by the way.....NO ONE ELSE HERE WAS MAKING FANBOY CRIES BECAUSE IT WASN'T EVEN THE ISSUE FUCK NUTS. I should ream your anal with a chainsaw just for wearing those stupid shoes....stupid puke, READ WHAT WAS SAID BEFORE YOU LIP. And speaking of ugly, since you want to go there, when was the last time you apologized to a mirror?? COUGH COUGH....SNOT You should be arrested for being criminally idiotic and lack of reading skills. DO I see a fanboy remark in there?? Was I hallucinating??? You're not worthy of changing your own briefs....FUCKBUTT!! You better consider yourself lucky I don't find you and take a strap to your narrow-nappy headed ass and you caught me in a good mood. Now normally I would send a personal email and try to explain things in an objective manner...but because of your lack of attention to what was said from the other comments on down and making FANBOY accusations when there were CLEARLY NONE made, you earned this ass-chewing.
Now if I were you...in the near future...don't even catch me if I'm in a bad mood, because next time, I will not spare your feelings and it will get nasty. END OF LINE
DVD Review of Iron Man: Ultimate 2-Disc Edition - Sep 28, 2008 - 08:59am
Tim Janson, let me ask this question. Were you smelling the crack of your own ass when you posted this? Were your balls being fondled by a mongolian mongoose in the heat of night?? What does the title say up top?? DVD REVIEW. Wait....lets go over this again Tim......D comes after C, V comes after U then we go back to D again. REEEEEEEEEEE......VIEWWWWWWW. Did we ask for a movie review that us Maniacs pretty much already were aware of?? Noooooo. You have proven that you need to be put on the Hall of Shame list along with Jessica Simpson's "CHICKEN OF THE SEA " debacle.
So until you can tell the difference Tim, I got a hat for you to wear. It says dumbass in bold italics. Next time.....get it right.
Mumbling Kitsune: Seeing Off Toonami - Sep 28, 2008 - 08:43am
As whacky as Cartoon Network's programming schedule is....should this surprise anybody. I never seen such a network so baffling much of the time because half the time they give you no heads up on what's happening from one week to the next. Talk about the "TWO LEFT FEET SYNDROME". Sheesh.
Hammer Still Hoping to Play Bats in JUSTICE LEAGUE - Sep 28, 2008 - 08:38am
Do me a favor Arnie....shut up and get in the corner. Christian Bale IS BATMAN for the time being. If you ever became BATMAN, then we might as well get Tom Green as SUPERMAN so WB can commit franchise suicide. Keep your ass on REAPER and start learning to curtain jerk for your next project.
Paul Newman Passes Away at 83 - Sep 28, 2008 - 08:26am
This is my first post in a couple of weeks and been rather busy. But when I saw this crawl across my newsline screen yesterday morning, I was pretty saddened. While it was no secret his health had been failing for months, but it was a matter of time til such news like this will get reported and generally the type of news no one likes to hear.
Paul Newman was an acting conniseur. Displaying his skills from a variety of emotions from sheer intensity like that in "CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF" (my personal Newman favorite), to sly wickedness in "THE HUDSUCKER PROXY" and "ROAD TO PERDITION" to just being cool and smooth in "THE COLOR OF MONEY" and "THE STING".
Newman was one of a handful of actors that still connected to the ever changing eras of movie-goin audiences. And while he hadn't done much Hollywood work over the past several years. Part of it is much of his disenchantment with the current scene of the magnified, over-the-top and the always in your face and meaningless tidbits of today's Hollywood world...but he still considered it his fraternity.
There was only one Paul Newman and is indeed one of the greatest losses to date. And so many up and coming actors can learn a lot from, even to some of the most worthless, talentless, spoiled hacks (AND THEY KNOW WHO THEY ARE), can learn a thing or two also. I tip my hat to you Mr. Newman...you were one of a kind.
Box Office: BANGKOK Wins Another Slow Weekend - Sep 08, 2008 - 03:01pm
Well look what I started. I mention football with movies then all of a sudden, its MANIA SPORTSTALK...HAHA....
Flint, we may have issues since I'm a Steelers fan. But it doesn't compare when my mom is a Browns fans. And you can imagine the shouting that goes on there. But Velgron threw in the Cryptkeeper to trip us up though. But hey....that's what happens when summer movies come to an end.
In the end though...DARK KNIGHT OWNED.......MWUWAHAHAHAHA!!!! And good seeing you agin Enforcer my friend.
Box Office: BANGKOK Wins Another Slow Weekend - Sep 07, 2008 - 02:39pm
Yeah....its a ZZZZZZZ week, mostly because most of us guys are pumped for football season which is part of the reason. Other reason is just simply what I said back in July....the movie slate gets very thin in terms of what's interesting. BANGKOK DANGEROUS is pretty much another remake of the japanese version. Not quite sure in wanting to see that, and TRAITOR looks pretty solid and will suffer a bit at the box office because the lack of generating buzz. And much of the reviews have been positive.
Well...better watch football, toy around with more of the mockSUPERMAN script and watch more of these homemade lightsaber battles on YOUTUBE and start the new work week later tonight.
Box Office: THUNDER Wins a Slow Labor Weekend - Sep 02, 2008 - 07:36am
I gotta question for you Bearly. Did you read my post carefully? Appearently not. I didn't say you said it. I said a naysayer.......it doesn't say "THIS IS WHAT BEARLY SAID". Read it right next time. Now while I agree that SUPERMAN is getting an unnecessary reboot and can work around it. But the problem is SUPERMAN RETURNS worked around SUPERMAN 3 and 4. It really isn't common knowledge, just in the mind of Singer and the studio...it takes place after SUPERMAN 2 because the following films were mishandled badly. While I rather not see a reboot, but it seems pretty silly to work around a movie that worked around the previous movies, because most people response to SUPERMAN's kid is nearly an overwhelming negative and the overall story in general. So now what direction do you take that part of the arc with the kid? It be basically pretty creepy in a Woody Allen way to tab him SUPERBOY since he spawned from Supes and Lois's loins. Everytime I think it...I feared that might have been one idea being kicked around. So as I said earlier...we already know his origin so it doesn't need to be retold in detail, much like how the beginning of THE INCREDIBLE HULK started, as I feel SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE is virtually almost untouchable in terms of a reboot because it is commonly the measuring stick on how comic films should be done and nearly seamlessly flawless until DARK KNIGHT finally became the one film that was mentioned in the same breath as the first SUPERMAN and can arguably be debated as perhaps exceeding it and IRON MAN, the first SPIDERMAN, X-2 and BATMAN BEGINS lumped in the box below those two films. Another reason why I also don't like the idea of SUPERMAN rebooted is because now it has to catch up with BATMAN which is a bit ridiculous. Which seems to me they should have done it the first time...not long after BATMAN BEGINS instead of doing RETURNS. Then we wouldn't have this problem. I've said it here many times, SUPERMAN continues to be the biggest Hollywood franchise mess, because the execs responsible jerkin off with their right hand don't know what the left hand is doing. And they wonder why the Schusters have been pissy at them for almost a year and wanting to take the rights back from Warner.
Box Office: THUNDER Wins a Slow Labor Weekend - Sep 01, 2008 - 06:37am
Well, Bearly...while I think the idea of the reboot is really a good idea, but unfortunately SUPERMAN has been painted into a corner in which it has to be done. The point of SUPERMAN RETURNS was to wipe the mess that was SUPERMAN 3 & 4. Not too many people realize it, but Singer tried to use it to say those two films never happen. Very much like HIGHLANDER 2, the god-awful bastard sequel was ignored by HIGHLANDER: FINAL DIMENSION and the tv series. We know those films happened but its like, "ok those films didn't happen. But HIGHLANDER 2, looks like academy award winning material once you get a glimpse of HIGHLANDER: THE SOURCE. The only way I will lay my eyes on one of the worst films made in the history of films, is if I'm held at gunpoint with toothpicks in my eyes. And you wonder why HIGHLANDER is getting rebooted.
STAR TREK is another example....not really a necessary reboot. But when Rick Berman imploded much of the established history set by the original series(in history books ENTERPISE was not the first ship in starfleet, and definitely the ship design was NOT
altered to look like a tiny rustbucket...and very little contact with the Klingons)...basically Paramount told Berman "don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out". Berman had great people that worked under him, Steven Ira Behr, Ron D. Moore and Jeri Taylor. What do those 3 have in common? Berman tuned them out because of his ego and they all eventually walked out.
And by the way....I knew IRON MAN was gonna be a huge hit, just most underestimated how it would perform before it came out, because the character over the years never really felt like a major player because it was being drowned by the SPIDERMAN, X-MEN craze during their hot iron storytelling run from the mid 80's to early 2000. Not many were saying IRON MAN owned until after its first week at the box-office, then all of sudden people went IRON MAN crazy. So only a handful knew what they were expecting. With DARK KNIGHT.......WE KNEW IT WOULD OWN BEFORE IT CAME OUT. And I'm still waiting on the one person to come out and take their licks for saying SPACE CHIMPS would own. Still laughing at that one. So if you gonna say something owns.....say it BEFORE it hits. That's like a doubting naysayer coming out telling us...."OH I KNEW IRON MAN WAS GONNA MAKE $314 MILLION ALL ALONG." No you didn't, you thought it was only gonna make $150 million and thought he was a B-list character you lying bastard.
Box Office: THUNDER Wins a Slow Labor Weekend - Aug 31, 2008 - 09:49pm
Ah, yes...its been 3 weeks since I made any comments because I been busy, among other things. However, was there any surprise DARK KNIGHT was gonna climb back up this week after peopele went brain-dead for 2 movies that basically got panned for being brain-dead in HOUSE BUNNY and DEATH RACE. As far as BABYLON A.D. goes, haven't seen it yet. Not really plan on it, because it has the look of rental all over it. I like Vin, but I think its time he start goin back taking chances like he did with his last box office hit THE PACIFIER, which paid off for him. Other than marking out for another RIDDICK movie, and not too sure about the 4th installment of the FAST AND FURIOUS, considering 2 and 3 were less than desirable.
Meanwhile, 3 weeks ago, I said a couple of my friends and myself were gonna tinker with a mock script on the next BATMAN. But considering WB's recent announcement of wanting to reboot SUPERMAN, it shot down a couple of plot ideas to our story...namely an early appearance by Lois Lane making a trip to Gotham to get an exclusive from Commissioner Gordon detailing The Joker's reign of terror in DARK KNIGHT and progress in capturing BATMAN as a wanted outlaw. Also shot down was the moments between the disgraced Mr. Earle and Lex Luthor, planting the seeds of LexCorp...however that was only a minor plot device to be used to set up what ultimately would be the first crossover meeting between BATMAN and SUPERMAN in a separate adventure. However, we debated on the main villian, either THE RIDDLER of MR. FREEZE... in which I had a very workable idea to introduce FREEZE.
But now since WB has very smartly killed JUSTICE LEAGUE for the time being and gone into SAVE SUPERMAN mode, we gonna put BATMAN on ice and come up with a mock script for SUPERMAN using the proposed working title mention here on Mania during all the wild SUPERMAN rumors over the last several months, THE MAN OF STEEL. Since the last thing people wanna see is another SUPERMAN vs. LEX one on one battle...our idea is to open the story with BRAINIAC causing global apocolypse to a distant world. Shortly after that scenario, go into a storied flashback clips of SUPERMAN's origin...much like the beginning to THE INCREDIBLE HULK. Lex will be involved, but just as a minor player as BRAINIAC is the real threat as he comes to Earth only to discover Kal-El is among the populace and tries to coerce and trick him to join his cause, but instead will lead to an explosive smackdown between the two with Earth hanging in the balance.
Box Office: DARK KNIGHT Takes Down The Pineapple - Aug 10, 2008 - 03:13pm
HAHA....leave it to you Hanso to turn it into "BAD HOT CHICKS IN SPANDEX GONE WILD"!!!
Ahhh....the dreams I could have. Hmmm...maybe I should ask my stripper friends to dress up as them on Halloween. I do have a Batman costume. But if I do that then my hot mama bear might get mad because she'll feel she's being left out, then she and the girls will get together for some female POW WOW and leave me out the mix.
HUH!!! Wouldn't be the first time.....
Box Office: DARK KNIGHT Takes Down The Pineapple - Aug 10, 2008 - 02:03pm
Well...DARK KNIGHT keeps chuggin along. But yes...and this is what I predicted when the movie was released that most likely TROPIC THUNDER will be the one that tops DARK KNIGHT because the trailers and viral vids for it have been absolutely funny. Especially with a virtually unrecognizable Robert Downey Jr. all done up as "the dude playin the dude disguised as another dude". Just had to quote that line.
CLONE WARS is basically the series premiere of the cartoon on CARTOON NETWORK coming up shortly...so some will think to themselves, "Why bother to pay for it when we'll see it on tv in a few weeks". And its run at the theaters is projected to be short because of it.
DARK KNIGHT looks to pass STAR WARS by the middle of the week and if it pulls in another good dose of numbers....then we may finally have to start talking TITANIC's record though I think it'll fall a bit short of it. Personally I rather see the record broken because its the most overrated all-time blockbuster and if it wasn't for it being pushed back from its original summer release in '98 to the end of the year and absolutely NO COMPETITION for 7 weeks til STAR WARS SPECIAL EDITION releases to hype THE PHANTOM MENACE...it may not have earned as much money as it did. Would it still be on top of the list? Well, avoiding the crowded summer movies that year....I doubt it.
In the meantime....a couple of my friends and I have been tossing around a couple of outlines and gonna do a mock script of the third BATMAN installment. Since we do like to write stories from time to time...DARK KNIGHT clearly has given us inspiration and gonna see how what direction the third film WE like to see it go. It could take a few weeks since we do have jobs....and if any MANIACS here (YOU TOO HANSO MY FRIEND) like to toss around a few subtitles....drop it in the hat.
Comic-Con Recap: Best Costumes - Jul 31, 2008 - 10:28am
Alright, The Joker up top looks like Rob Zombie, or you could say what would happen if Charles Manson got dropped in a vat of chemicals. Both prospects looking very scary. But the second Joker does kinda look like Milton Berle....who I believe and was a RUMOR back then was a candidate for The Joker in the 60's til it went to Caesar Romero.
The guy as Destro looks like he's sprouting from a mushroom...
I assume that's Paul Revere in the one pic. And if he is....that's one fucked up nose.
The chick who's the Black Cat looks like Dustin Rhodes/Goldust in one of his MANY transgender incarnations ripoffs like he pulled off in WWE back in the day. Definitely won't forget his mockery of Marilyn Manson with his MarilynDust gimmick. AGH!!!
As far as the Ghostbuster goes....he must be Harold Ramis, because Harold hasn't missed too many meals over the years compared to what he looked like back then.
Everyone else looks pretty good, though not quite registering who the guy in the makeup suppose to be. Must be from the flick DOOMSDAY.
The Fallen Takes On TRANSFORMERS - Jul 30, 2008 - 07:34pm
Hey SonyMan...haven't seen you much lately. But yeah The Fallen was not an original Transformer in a TV series sense, but Simon Furman, who had a hand with classic G-1 on both the comic and the show, did an expanded re-imagery of their history. So he added that long....LONG before the days of Optimus and Megatron, The Fallen was the first 13 Transformers created by Primus and then tied in the role of the Quintessons that they did have an influence in the early development of Transformers, but much of the Quintessons role into their creations was partly misinformation as they wanted to keep the Transfromers true history hidden as they took credit for their beginnings while playing the role of false gods when the true god was Primus.
This was presumably the direction they tried to take the show after season 3, but unfortunately that's when it was discontinued in The States. Primus and Unicron witnessed the Big Bang and seeded many worlds....Earth may have been one of them. If you missed a post on the previous page I put up there's a little more in detail.
But then he also had to tie in a bunch of the BUNGLED RE-BOOTS AND CONVULUTED CONTIUTITIES by saying that Unicron and Primus were masters of time and different TRANSFORMER realities. Probably not the way Furman had intended for the TRANSFORMER UNIVERSE, but since he had to make sense of the jumbo mess the TRANSFORMER property is currently going through.
I do have Furman's TRANSFORMERS ULTIMATE GUIDE which explain much of it and is probably hard to find in stores since it was printed back in 2003....unless you find one on E-Bay.
Yeah I prefer his original INTENDED version rather than the mess its been through over the years.
The Fallen Takes On TRANSFORMERS - Jul 30, 2008 - 09:45am
The Fallen is from the six-issue mini series, TRANSFORMERS: THE WAR WITHIN, which was during the dark age of Cybertron. I do have the issues. The Fallen was one of the original 13 Transformers created by Primus, but at the time of his creation his was not yet evil.Simon Furman, who was involved with the original G-1 comic and current ones as well as well as the classic G-1 tv series and subsequent shows, BEAST WARS, BEAST MACHINES and the current TRANSFORMERS ANIMATED...along with Pat Lee told the story (MORE OR LESS THAN A RE-IMAGINED, RE-TELLING AND EXPANDED MYTHOS OF TRANSFORMERS DURING ITS COMEBACK) of The Fallen as a servant of Unicron, once banished into limbo along with his master. When Megatron and Optimus clashed early on in their battle, both were lost and presumed dead when a protoype space bridge malfunctioned and exploded, but created a window big enough for The Fallen to escape. Both forces left in disarray, realize the threat and joined reluctantly to stop him from releasing Unicron from the same limbo, but were unsuccessful. This dire event led to the reawakening of Primus (though consciously) in the final confrontation in the spark chamber where The Fallen met his demise. The Fallen bared a resemblence to an evil version of Optimus Prime and Nightmare from SOUL CALIBER.Furman also added the background in his TRANSFORMERS ULTIMATE GUIDE that Unicron and Primus are brothers that seeded worlds across time and realities (MULTIVERSE)...sort of like DC's INFINITE CRISIS scenario (explaining other versions of TRANSFORMERS)...just not as hectic (SO FAR). Unicron chose later to become evil and chaos and became the eater of worlds that both he and Primus help create. Though its unclear whether Earth was one of those worlds. But their epic clashes may or may not have been the catalyst of the concept beliefs of the heaven and hell mythos. Notice that Unicron bears the likeness of a robotic version of Satan. And over the years, it never occurred to me til 2 years ago once you sit and look at Unicron more closely to see that he was drawn (MAYBE ALMOST BY ACCIDENT) to look like the devil, and the extensions on his arms resemble wings in robot form. Primus and Unicron are creations of The One. Once Unicron was defeated and exiled in limbo for a time, Primus reverted to his alternate mode...as the planet Cybertron and seeded himself and passed off all his learnings to create the original 13 Transformers, which was where The Fallen was spawned and other robots were created afterwards, unaware mostly that Cybertron is the robot god figure that they worship is Primus in planet mode. But eons of wars rendered much of the life force of Primus used to fuel his Cybertron mode exhausted...giving the world its battered war torn look and leaving Primus in a deep slumber.
Box Office Update: KNIGHT Scores Victory Over Brothers and FBI - Jul 28, 2008 - 01:39pm
Well JonnieJ....you missed a lot of the WOW factor in DARK KNIGHT. You was too busy sleeping. So how you watched most of the movie? And thank god you atleast didn't say CATWOMAN was better than IRONMAN. You would have been sent to serve time in El Sagundo if you have said it. But the Hulk?? Well, which one? The deplorable Ang Lee version or THE INCREDIBLE HULK in which that was the version Ang Lee should have made? Hopefully its HULK ver. 2. But no....not better than IRONMAN.
And I was kidding about stabbing you in the ass with frozen spit. I'll just let Predator target you with his laser-guided smart weapons. And please Joey tell me you didn't go see LOVE GURU. You were better off goin in for shock treatments and getting a kick out of that. The trailer was enough to say..."no thanks".
And you know it must be a slow day trying to talk about something else besides DARK KNIGHT when fellow Maniacs are talking about Kevin Costner flicks. Pretty much anything made after the debacle that was WATERWORLD, smelled of rhino balls. (save for OPEN RANGE...that was pretty decent)
Box Office Update: KNIGHT Scores Victory Over Brothers and FBI - Jul 28, 2008 - 11:13am
No JonnieJ, you won't get spanked. I'll just stab you in the ass with frozen spit. DARK KNIGHT predictable and boring?? So you knew where this movie was leading to BEFORE YOU SAW IT?? And if you found it boring and almost fell asleep, why didn't you just get out your seat, stop the drool from hanging out your mouth and left? There's no doubt now that drugs CLEARLY are being administered. Or you were also liquored up with Shia "The Beef". To steal and modify a line from Tony Stark...."the fun-vee guys for DARK KNIGHT is here, the oh-humvee guys for movies that sucked are already playing at your nearby $2.00 matinee theaters or hitting the bargain bins at Blockbuster. And since you were HALF-ASLEEP, you fail to even construct and comprehend the methodical complex madness of The Joker's schemes. I would go into details of what you didn't get, but you proved that you are a humanoid ham n'egger so I don't want you to fall asleep during the explanatory details. With that said.....you didn't like DARK KNIGHT....fair enough. But your explanations as to why was about as incoherent and as ridiculous a typical Uwe Boll flick, WHILE BEING SOBER!!I guess you must have saw LOVE GURU and thought that it was greatest comedy. HE HE HE HE HELL!!! What's next, you gonna tell us CATWOMAN was superior to IRONMAN??
Box Office Update: KNIGHT Scores Victory Over Brothers and FBI - Jul 28, 2008 - 06:23am
Well Predator, it could have been worse. Karas could have said, MEET DAVE was Academy Award winning material. Now Karas, atleast you enjoyed SPEED RACER....which would be one of the few here that did like it.
I should laugh at you for saying its was the best movie of the summer (WHICH CLEARLY IT ISN'T) and also its a clear indication that drugs were obviously administered during viewing and again making your statement here. But you have proven that you're not even worthy of being laughed at.
Therefore, it has been decided that you'll be given this response........WHAT?!?
DARK KNIGHT OWNS.......AGAIN!!
DARK KNIGHT Rescues Another $23.1 Mil Friday - Jul 26, 2008 - 10:05pm
But yeah Wiseguy, it would be no surprise if DARK KNIGHT is still #1 next week. Chances are MUMMY 3 should take it, but FOX thought X-FILES would and obviously that didn't happen. And we have yet to see Saturday's take.
DARK KNIGHT Rescues Another $23.1 Mil Friday - Jul 26, 2008 - 09:58pm
Appearently Wiseguy I foolishly deleted it when I meant to add MUMMY 3 in the mix, so I just do it shorter. MUMMY 3 should win, because it does have a following for its franchise, but we are talking about Rob Cohen.
DARK KNIGHT Rescues Another $23.1 Mil Friday - Jul 26, 2008 - 09:55pm
X-FILES title "I Want To Believe" meant one certainty. I beileve we gonna get our asses handed to us. Mulder turns to Scully and says, "in fact I'm holding my ass in my hands right now. What about you Scully?" So now that puts the proverbial nail into the coffin of the X-FILES franchise til the time is right for audiences will be ready for it again since they lost the core audience years ago when it stayed on the air too long and got too silly to even bother to follow anymore.Next week MUMMY 3. And that film being a success will depend on what mood people will be in for Rob Cohen. Will it topple DARK KNIGHT?? Stay tuned. In the meantime Hanso, guess we'll add STEPBROTHERS and X-FILES to the latest DARK KNIGHT bodycount. Continue to enjoy the DARK KNIGHT ride ladies and gents. I plan on seeing it 5 more times so I can take my viewings up to 8.
DARK KNIGHT Fastest to $200 Million - Jul 24, 2008 - 04:09pm
Well....now that I'm back from my afternoon nap. The box office take is gonna be very interesting to see this weekend. There is an outside chance that DARK KNIGHT may narrowly touch the $300 million dollar mark. Once Wednesday and Thursday numbers are tallied, then the weekend starts. Unless we get surprised by the box-office of X-FILES or SEPBROTHERS will most of us are seriously doubting that'll happen, history could be made again by Sunday, which may inch us closer to start whispering about how close it will get to TITANIC.And Silversurfer, if DARK KNIGHT doesn't get noticed, it wouldn't be the first time. As well crafted as Richard Donner's SUPERMAN was made, it won a lot of technical awards at the Academy, but got majorly snubbed in any other the major Academy categories because they balked at the idea of a comic book movie. Has anyone realized that after the first STAR WARS won 6 Academy Awards (SINCE IT DIDN'T WIN BEST PICTURE AND LUCAS DIDN'T GET A BEST DIRECTOR NOD IF I RECALL), the superior sequel THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK got snubbed in major categories except in the technical awards in which it cleaned house? And we all know how much LORD OF THE RINGS got hosed for 2 films straight until RETURN OF THE KING painted the Academy in a corner and it ate every award in sight except anything that was foreign. And listening to Richard Roeper talk about how DARK KNIGHT earlier today and it should get serious Academy considerations....not just best supporting actor nod for Heath Ledger and possibly for Aaron Eckhart as well, but should get nods for best film and best director as well because DARK KNIGHT is not just merely a comic book movie...its a very serious EPIC crime-drama actioner and may have now cemented Chris Nolan as not only a household name, but without question an A-list director who will get have more people flock to his movies in the near future, much like James Cameron became the hot iron of the 90's after The first Terminator and Aliens, then we saw the box-office explosion that was Terminator 2 in '91 because people took notice to Cameron. And for those that saw Nolan's last film THE PRESTIGE which grossed over $210 million, I thought that was one of the more overlooked movies of 2006, but it got sort of ignored somewhat because of the raves of critics and movie-goers for THE DEPARTED and that was an even better film which won best picture and best director. No one thought GLADIATOR would get that much attention by the Academy for what it was and yet won 5 awards including best actor, film and picture. But because it was the most raved film of 2000. And personally I felt 300 got overlooked seriously last year because not it was just a great graphic novel....it was a great movie. Not saying it should have won anything, just it should have been appreciated for what it was. And if THE WATCHMEN continues the trend that DARK KNIGHT has set, Zack Synder can't be ignored for too much longer and it would be almost blasphemous if he were, especially if DARK KNIGHT gets totally ignored. And I thought CHICAGO was the most overrated Academy Award film....even though it was really good, but that good?? I don't think so.So is DARK KNIGHT this year's DEPARTED?? Will this film get the nods that the first SUPERMAN really didn't get? Will this help the comic-book genre be appreciated more when more titles get translated to the screen in the future? Quite a few questions will be waiting to get answered. In the meantime....go watch DARK KNIGHT multiple times. And if you haven't seen it yet, then you're missing out on a comic-book cinematic masterpiece.
DARK KNIGHT Fastest to $200 Million - Jul 24, 2008 - 07:43am
And that take was made when tickets averaged $6.00 dollars. As I said a few posts ago, its the one film to date that women flocked in ridiculous droves like rats following the Pied Piper, mostly because they were fawning over Leonardo, which bascially made him an A-lister since. Did we need 3 hours to know the boat sinks in the end? Unless you was poor in history class....nope.
DARK KNIGHT Fastest to $200 Million - Jul 24, 2008 - 07:33am
Joey, DARK KNIGHT pushes the PG-13 rating closer than any film to date. This movie should have been R-rated, but they cleverly showed no blood and hardly strong language with was probably why it was PG-13...but the thematic images of the violence and action scenes really tested it. And remember the animated series also pushed the tv-rating considering its nearly as serious as the current film.
DARK KNIGHT Fastest to $200 Million - Jul 24, 2008 - 07:10am
Since you brought up BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES Hanso. Some people that watched the show never realized that Mark Hamill was the voice of The Joker. The reaction I normally got when I tell em would be "YOU MEAN LUKE SKYWALKER?? GET THE HELL OUTTA HERE!!! Now more people watch cartoon credits to see who voiced who.
DARK KNIGHT Fastest to $200 Million - Jul 24, 2008 - 06:46am
I totally agree Hanso. And it'll be interesting to see the the weekend take, even as X-FILES 2 and STEPBROTHERS open on Friday, its almost a forgone conclusion that DARK KNIGHT will be #1 for the second straight week unless one of those two films actually surprise us which I think neither will.I said this before the release of DARK KNIGHT a couple of times....theres not a lot of movies between now and then that's making people really anxious for. X-FILES success will depend on whether its core audience are actually giddy for the return of Mulder and Scully for the first time in years. X-FILES stayed on the air 3 years too long and got really silly during that time even after the release of the first film and it kind of came off as silly. STEPBROTHERS will depend on whether or not the flop of Farrell's last film SEMI-PRO will carry over to this movie. SEMI-PRO didn't get much reaction earlier this year when the trailer came out for it and just didn't click with the audience, though they seem to react more to this latest film, so we'll see if the flop of SEMI-PRO was a blip on the radar or a sign of people feeling tht Farrell's act is getting old quickly. MUMMY 3 was originally a July 11 release back in the spring. But when movies started to either push up or fall back because of THE DARK KNIGHT, Universal got smart and bailed out of that day before it would become roadkill the following week, plus Fraser already had JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH marked on that day also and so far has done better than anyone expected. But MUMMY 3 is directed by Rob Cohen, and he has that Michael Bay auora, its either gonna be loud, mindless fun or its gonna be loud, and mindlessly annoying. And after 2 FAST 2 FURIOUS was just a dumb sequel and the travesty of STEALTH, MUMMY 3 success will depend on what mood film-goers are in and be willing to tolerate another Rob Cohen outing simply on just word of mouth. TROPIC THUNDER so far seems to be the only film left so far grabbing anyone else's attention and very little has been seen or talked about of Vin Diesel's BABYLON A.D. Suffice to say, DARK KNIGHT may continue to break records of ridiculous proportions til the end of summer but the one record that will be a challenge and its WAY TOO EARLY to mention it, but I'm sure some are thinking. How close can DARK KNIGHT's numbers get to TITANIC? Back then, TITANIC had absolutely NO COMPETITION for nearly 2 months until the release of the STAR WARS SPECIAL EDITION versions and came out in December when back in that time, movies coming out in November and December were a bad months and not too many hits occurred during those months and weren't being treated as holiday fare as they are now in today's standards. Had TITANIC came out during the summer of '98, which was scheduled a week or two ahead of what ultimately wound up being the summer champ, Michael Bay's ARMAGEDDON, it probably wouldn't have grossed over $600 million like it did. But it was engineered by James Cameron who was at the time...the Tom Brady of Hollywood next to Steven Spielberg who is Hollywood's Peyton Manning. So TITANIC probably would have been the top film of the summer instead, and its the one film to date that women flocked to in droves without a second thought (MOSTLY BECAUSE IT WAS THE BEGINNING OF THEIR CRUSH FOR LEONARDO DiCAPRIO). But would it have grossed over $600 million in the summer? Probably not. So will the TITANIC effect happen for DARK KNIGHT? Chances are not likely but would be surprising if it did. But women find BATMAN as appealing and cool as much as the men, which is something some women hesitate to admit openly. Plus we're also finding out that Heath Ledger has developed a bigger fan base than he originally had. Some may have been closet fans in the past, but now they're coming in far and wide. Its sad that he's been gone for some time now, but I'm sure he's smiling down from the heaven's above in what is looking to be his finest hour. A shame he's not with us to relish it.

If you will excuse me gentlemen. I have a very beautiful lady I need to focus on and romance. DARK KNIGHT OWNS YOU!!!! SMELL IT, SMELL IT, SMELL IT.....NOW TAKE IT!!!!
Comicscape: Character Contrast in the Dark Knight - Jul 23, 2008 - 11:31am
IRONMAN and DARK KNIGHT raised the bar in my view. I think it will make other future comic films to try to crank it up a notch. Especially on the DC front because the current setting of BATMAN, Warner knows it can't keep half-assing on SUPERMAN, particularly when the Schusters are ever looming over their heads and they have got to get GREEN LANTERN, THE FLASH and WONDER WOMAN to the big screen before getting stupid on making JUSTICE LEAGUE without establishing the other major players.
Comicscape: Character Contrast in the Dark Knight - Jul 23, 2008 - 11:15am
You know what's funny Darkheart, if anyone else realizes, that the 2 best films are from two comic characters that are almost mirror images of each other. I could see Stark and Wayne painting the town red as basically those clearly are the two best movies of the summer season. And lets not overlook IRONMAN because that film in some ways got us stoked for the DARK KNIGHT. Before then, IRONMAN had some doubters as to how well it would do because its not been given the same treatment over the years as SPIDERMAN or X-MEN which always bothered me because he's a major player in comics and at times felt like a second-string title. Give Favreau and Downey kudos for making IRONMAN revelant as a major player again. But I'm thrilled for Downey because this is a guy who's always been a great actor who's career been marred by personal demons and I was pulling for this years and he finally got that one movie that said ROBERT DOWNEY is back. I give props to any person that can man-up and say I need to get my ass back in gear an earn it. Right now IRONMAN is still #1 overall, but not by much with INDIANA JONES on its heels, but DARK KNIGHT will catch up to both of them in a hurry. I said IRONMAN is the best Marvel movie hands down. DARK KNIGHT is the best DC movie hands down. DARK KNIGHT is the better film but both films are winners in my book.
Comicscape: Character Contrast in the Dark Knight - Jul 23, 2008 - 10:56am
And when critics are in unison over a comic-book movie to this degree....then you know Nolan and company made something special with this. As well as the first SPIDERMAN and IRONMAN was well received and made, they fall a little short to the hoopla DARK KNIGHT is currently getting. We as fans should pull together and support DARK KNIGHT fully because not only will this help the genre finally get the deserved recognition of what a great movie this is, but this may actually get studios finally sit back and say...."LET'S QUIT MAKING SUPERHERO FILMS FOR THE SAKE OF MERCHANDISING AND START RESPECTING THE SOURCE MATERIAL. And it will be interesting to see how THE WATCHMEN will get received. Only comic-fans reacted to the trailer, as others were a little befuddled til they saw "FROM THE DIRECTOR OF 300", then gave that "that looks interesting reaction. Plus lets not forget THE SPIRIT and we'll see how much they'll get right with PUNISHER 2. By the way Thomas Jane...regret bolting for THE MIST??
Comicscape: Character Contrast in the Dark Knight - Jul 23, 2008 - 10:37am
DARK KNIGHT is being raved by critics and some fans (INCLUDING MYSELF) as the best comic book film since SUPERMAN and that speaks volumes since SUPERMAN is generally considered the measuring stick on how comic book films should be done. Yeah its debatable Darkheart..but you have to admit, DARK KNIGHT fired on all cylinders. As far as too much. NAH....SPIDERMAN 3 and XMEN: THE LAST STAND were a complete mess because THEY TRIED TO TAKE MAJOR STORY ARCS AND CRAM IT ALL IN ONE MOVIE. BATMAN didn't oversaturate its objective unlike those two movies did.Plus back then despite all the critical praise SUPERMAN got, as far as I can remember, it didn't get a single major Academy Award nomination (save for orignal score) and that wasn't considered a major award back in that time...but it did clean up in the technical awards. DARK KNIGHT may get looked harder by the Academy and get nominations in areas that SUPERMAN didn't. Yeah I know its all premature, but who would have thought as violent as THE DEPARTED was, that it would get the attention at the Academy it got and finally gave Scorcese that elusive best director award along with best picture....5 awards in all I believe.
Comicscape: Character Contrast in the Dark Knight - Jul 23, 2008 - 10:24am
Believe me BMF....Schumacher smelled too much buffalo ass when he actually considered those choices. And this is one of the few moments Wiki actually gets something right.
Comicscape: Character Contrast in the Dark Knight - Jul 23, 2008 - 10:18am
Ah yes, Kate Beckinsale. I wish she had been the Baroness in G.I.JOE instead of Sienna Miller. Evangeline...not a bad choice. Truthfully, I would lean towards Kate myself...but for some reason, I probably would go with Alyssia Milano. I think it might be almost tailored-made for her.
Comicscape: Character Contrast in the Dark Knight - Jul 23, 2008 - 10:07am
Yep Hanso...that is true. And THANK GOD that didn't happen. What was equally odd was that Will Smith was considered for the role of The Scarecrow not long after he did INDEPENDENCE DAY. Atleast we know which one is obviously more talented.
Comicscape: Character Contrast in the Dark Knight - Jul 23, 2008 - 10:03am
But back to the topic at hand as I continue to laugh in amazement of seeing Robert Downey decked up as a black guy in TROPIC THUNDER. Who would you cast as CATWOMAN Joey??
Comicscape: Character Contrast in the Dark Knight - Jul 23, 2008 - 09:58am
It could have been worse...it could be Uwe Boll's BATMAN. But that clearly would be one of the signs of the apocolypse if Warner let him near it. Remember, Fox gave that man $70 million to put together DUNGEON SIEGE which would without a doubt show that even the impossible can frightenly happen.
Comicscape: Character Contrast in the Dark Knight - Jul 23, 2008 - 09:53am
And if I see Michael Bay's name appear in the middle of the bat symbol....someone stab me in the brain with an ice pick. I SURRENDER....I SURRENDER!!!
Comicscape: Character Contrast in the Dark Knight - Jul 23, 2008 - 09:50am
Hobbs, who would have thought 2 years ago....TRANSFORMERS....A MICHAEL BAY FILM??? I SURE AS HELL DIDN'T!! As if TRANSFORMERS isn't getting raped enough already.
Comicscape: Character Contrast in the Dark Knight - Jul 23, 2008 - 09:47am
I'm gonna have to look back on my past post on that topic because it has been a while and that was shortly before MANIA implemented the new interface. But somebody's pic was up there on the Wolverine cast screen. I haven't kept up with Wolverine news that much since it seems every time I see screen shots it looks like Liev is scorfing down twinkies the way they put that hair on his face playing Sabretooth.
Comicscape: Character Contrast in the Dark Knight - Jul 23, 2008 - 09:40am
I just had a frightening thought. If Nolan decides not to do the next film....I can see us sitting in a theater, see the bat symbol come on-screen and it says....MASK OF THE DARK KNIGHT.......A MICHAEL BAY FILM. OH SHIT!!!
Comicscape: Character Contrast in the Dark Knight - Jul 23, 2008 - 09:30am
BMF...I know who you're talking about. In fact when we first saw his pic early in Wolverine 4 months ago, I was the first person to scream JOKER with that guy. If I remember right, Hanzo was next to say..."YEP, WE HAVE OUR NEW JOKER."
Comicscape: Character Contrast in the Dark Knight - Jul 23, 2008 - 09:25am
CATWOMAN is in need of serious restoration to credibility after Halle Berry's take. Plus Catwoman would need the aid of another villian story arc because she just doesn't have enough story to sustain fully for a film because her origins have been a constant revolving door throughout her exsistence.
Comicscape: Character Contrast in the Dark Knight - Jul 23, 2008 - 09:20am
This is what I like. Rattling our brains on how Nolan would do the next film and its sparking probably the most interesting debate to date here on MANIA...probably until a script is submitted within the next the year. Hobbs...you woke up out of that bed finally.
Comicscape: Character Contrast in the Dark Knight - Jul 23, 2008 - 09:14am
Now considering how the film ended with BATMAN now basically a vigilante fugitive by choice.....you could in a very interesting way do a revised tale of MASK OF THE PHANTASM. Don't think about it in its current form, just take the concept of the character and rework the tale.
Comicscape: Character Contrast in the Dark Knight - Jul 23, 2008 - 09:05am
Freeze is not far fetched for Nolan's BATMAN...just need to keep it straight-forward as he was done in BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES, because he's been marred in infamy by Arnold and Schumacher and that stentch needs to be wiped clean. And yes Poison Ivy wouldn't quite work here so I agree with Hanzo there. Plus Nolan likes to cast people that we don't think about that could pull off the villians very cleverly.
Comicscape: Character Contrast in the Dark Knight - Jul 23, 2008 - 08:59am
However, Weaving would make a great Mr. Freeze which is one of 2 directions I would take the next film. I would take Bruce Timm and company and have them give me a combined expanded script based off the one of the best episodes ever made in "HEART OF ICE" and sprinkle a little bit of "SUBZERO" and have those dramatic elements and focus mainly on the backstory and theme of Mr. Freeze. If I were to insert another villian, it would have to be done right and done in a small dose to where its only a minor element to the Freeze story. I'll come up with a second direction alternate story shortly. In fact I should open up my wordpad and come up with a script since I do like to tinker with stories on my spare time.
Comicscape: Character Contrast in the Dark Knight - Jul 23, 2008 - 08:45am
True both Depp & Weaving are older. Hugo looks good at 48 and Depp clearly is drinking Dick Clark's youth tonic. DiCaprio is actually looking older than Depp, and he's not even 35 yet I think. Hey look at Brett Favre...he's 38 and looked like Moses since he was 32. Plus everyone age at different speeds. Looking at Favre and Depp, who looks older obviously?
Comicscape: Character Contrast in the Dark Knight - Jul 23, 2008 - 08:33am
Well unless they cleverly use the Lazarus Pit scenario for Ra's A'Ghul as part of his backstory to explain why he's immortal which he did mention he was immortal and a bit of a supernatural figure in BEGINS, so draw your own conclusions. But he is one tough bastard to rid of. Plus I think the smallest window was left open for Two-Face to return. I'm in the minority that he isn't dead. I took the ending as Harvey Dent, the human being is dead. Batman and Gordon used it as a cover to keep the city from knowing that Dent was rampaging the streets as Two-Face and wanted them to remember him as the white knight and savior. Debates will no doubt rage as to whether or not Two-Face died. And yeah Hanzo, when they scripted DARK KNIGHT it was with the intent of carrying it over to the third film with Two-Face potentially being the main villian. Now whether the intent changed as scripts go through rewrites or they change things during filming remains to be seen. Furthermore, I think The Joker will get recasted despite Nolan saying he won't. Remember, Heath Ledger was not the first choice. The studio wanted Johnny Depp to audition for the role but it never happened because he was too busy working on Pirates 2 & 3. Personally Depp would be my first choice to replace Ledger, my second choice would be Hugo Weaving. And I think you'd would agree Hanzo that we should hold a forum where "YOU" the fans in the role of Chris Nolan, what would you do for the next BATMAN film? What would your story be and who would be the villian or villians?
Mania Manifesto: Top 7 Video Games at E3 - Jul 22, 2008 - 04:07pm
I watched E-3 all of last week. Games I'm looking forward to are DC UNIVERSE, MORTAL KOMBAT vs. DC, GEARS OF WAR 2, RESISTANCE 2 and THIS IS VEGAS...which looks to be a sleeper hit considering the concept.Plus also being a DIE-HARD wrestling fan...can't wait for SMACKDOWN vs. RAW 09, TNA, as well as the WRESTLEMANIA LEGENDS game where the WWE is goin back to old school 80's style with the classic look of the old WWF. Hogan, Andre and Heenan so far had been announced, but they also said since managers were more relevant and SORELY missing in today's wrestling, expect the likes of Mr. Fuji, Freddie Blassie, Jimmy Hart, Elizabeth and Slick. So bring on Demoliltion, Jake Roberts, Ted DiBiase, British Bulldogs, Mr. Perfect and more. But the big question is two enigmas that will need to be answered. Will Bruno Sammartino be in the game or much less want to considering he's STILL SALTY against Vince? Or will the Jim Helwig aka The Ultimate Warrior be in the game considering he's made heads roll over the years of being one of the most controversial figures outside the ring with his twisted view of the social world. You can Google, MySpace or Youtube his OVER-THE-TOP seminars (WHICH IS A RIOT IN ITSELF CONSIDERING THAT ITS ALMOST LIKE WATCHING GRIMLOCK SPOUTING SHAKESPEARE). And I know for a fact the he and the Iron Shiek will not be exchanging christmas cards anytime soon because they hate.....and I MEAN HATE each other's guts. And the Shiek's comments are even funnier considering it almost like hearing GLENGARY GLEN ROSS as much profanity he spouts on Youtube about the Warrior.Plus, The warrior hasn't had the greatest of relationships with Vince either....for that matter Warrior hasn't had the greatest of relationships pretty much everywhere he's went in his pro career. And he's already had a comeback match recently and sporting the Dolph Lundgren crewcut.
Box Office Update: KNIGHT Captures Box Office History for WB - Jul 20, 2008 - 06:04pm
Now I will agree with you on the one part Wiseguy. They went to the well one too many times with the Uncle Ben arc and shouldn't have been used for the Sandman. Once was enough and that was the first film. I didn't like that they went to well during the second film and should have left well enough alone. But Sandman was the best part of SPIDERMAN 3...and they totally killed all the momentum they established the feud between Peter and Harry because they threw all their eggs in one basket and SPIDERMAN 3 was a complete mess.I think its time to go with a new director. Raimi can stay on as producer if he likes, but I think Spidey needs a fresh prespective. And unless Tobey picks up the slack...get rid of his "I WANNA FALL ASLEEP EVERYTIME I SAY MY LINES" delivery and show Kirsten the door as well.As far as the Big Bad Harv persona...you can go either way with it, but personally I think it would have been overkill and you don't want too many things goin on which is I said a few comments ago. DO NOT OVERSATURATE YOUR OBJECTIVE. Harvey Dent was handled well enough.
Box Office Update: KNIGHT Captures Box Office History for WB - Jul 20, 2008 - 04:58pm
Wessmith, I'll give MAMA MIA a school of credit. Not too familiar with the play other than I heard of it, but never seen it because musicals are generally not my cup of tea with the exception of a very few classics I like. Will it become this year's HAIRSPRAY as that was the summer sleeper hit last year? Who knows, but give it credit for being second.
As far as X-FILES goes...people weren't happy with the final 3 years of the show and it stayed on the air 3 years too long as it got sillier and sillier. And have people lost interest after talks of a sequel since 2002? Well we know die-hard X-FILES fans will go see it. The question is will it recapture the attention of the casual viewers, which will help determine who well it performs next week.
STEPBROTHERS...well Will Ferrell lost steam after SEMI-PRO flopped big time earlier this year. But it seems the trailer to STEPBROTHERS got a little more reaction than SEMI-PRO did where people groaned at it when I went to see CLOVERFIELD.
Box Office Update: KNIGHT Captures Box Office History for WB - Jul 20, 2008 - 04:40pm
Well Hobbs my friend...the next Spidey film probably won't hurt too much. But Spidey 3 came off too goofy. But they did make Sandman a relevant villian again and was the best part of SPIDERMAN 3. Atleast it didn't go the route of Superman 3 and 4. But Raimi admitted when he shot SPIDERMAN 2 and was asked what do fans want to see as the next villian for SPIDERMAN 3, he said he never liked Venom, but would introduce him to the fold. The mistake of that was the Venom should have never been involved in 3 considering Venom was a major story arc and should have been a stand-alone Spidey vs. Venom film til atleast the fourth installment. That was the mistake XMEN: THE LAST STAND did was trying to do to major story arcs and trying to make it one movie after Singer had set it up for a revised tale of the PHOENIX SAGA. Instead we get mishandled versions of both that and "GOD LOVES, MAN KILLS" story arcs in the same movie because Singer and FOX couldn't compromise on the direction of X-3 which was one of many reasons why Singer bolted for SUPERMAN RETURNS.And yeah Hanzo...I don't remember who it was that said SPACE CHIMPS would own, but I couldn't help but laugh at it.
Box Office Update: KNIGHT Captures Box Office History for WB - Jul 20, 2008 - 04:26pm
Batman777, I'm not sure if BANE would be in the cards considering how Schumacher made himact like Sludge of the Dinobots. Bruce Timm and company did him service, but unfortunately, they still haven't been able to wipe the stentch of Schumacher completely.MR. FREEZE may be more salvagable, but BANE.....may take some serious damage control. Plus it be too early to do a KNIGHTFALL story arc in this series. Now Nolan, provided he does 3 and most likely I think that he will, is gonna have to bring creditbility back to CATWOMAN because I would fix that problem quick considering how badly that was handled...and I won't forget how Halle Berry actually thought she was gonna bolt STORM and X-3 by doing the now BEEN DEAD BEOFRE IT WAS DEAD ON ARRIVAL CATWOMAN film series. Then she came crawling back to Singer and FOX. I'm sure she got laughed at by the studio. Now lets see how serious Warner is about getting GREEN LANTERN to the big screen. So far, they flopped with THE FLASH and WONDER WOMAN...and can't tell if they're coming or going with the personnel on how to handle the next SUPERMAN...provided they don't feel the wrath of The Schusters first.
Box Office Update: KNIGHT Captures Box Office History for WB - Jul 20, 2008 - 03:44pm
Jarrod, I never said an entire army said that DARK KNIGHT would underperformed. Just those who doubted. And speaking of army...wow did HELLBOY tumble in week 2. I think the film's uneven approach turned some people off. I had expected it to drop to 2 or 3...but 5?? I thought HELLBOY 2 was good when I saw it last Saturday, but I thought it fell short of being better than the first. On a visual level it was beautiful to look at.And to whowever said that SPACE CHIMPS would own the weekend last night.......HA HA HA HA!!! Come out of hiding and own up to it. Hey atleast it did better than MEET DAVE last week.
Box Office Update: KNIGHT Captures Box Office History for WB - Jul 20, 2008 - 03:23pm
This is for those that doubted THE DARK KNIGHT performance. What did I say last night?...its all about INTEREST FACTOR, which was a no-brainer. IT'S BATMAN....I told you when Nolan did BATMAN BEGINS it was all about reeling in the trust factor from the ANTI-CHRIST of the BATMAN HELLHOLE THAT IS JOEL SCHUMACHER. The first film was a hit but not as big as this installment because....1. People weren't too familiar with Chris Nolan and his work2. People will never forget or forgive Schumacher's run on BATMAN3. Because of Schumacher, BATFANS were cautious about not getting suckered, especially considering the same year....the shitty as CATWOMAN came out 1 monthbefore BATMAN BEGINS. So Nolan had an uphill battle from too many people smellingDONKEY ASS screwing up franchise characters. And on that note, this is dedicated to those who don't want to admit or are too cowardly to come out and own up to saying BATMAN will underperform.....(kick to the head) POW! Here's 4 more for you..POW POW POW POW!!! SMELL IT, SMELL IT, SMELL IT...NOW TAKE IT....POW!!!
Yes, much of it is engineered when people wanted to see how Heath Ledger's performance is so raved about and did his performance drive him to the point of what is called "LIVING THE GIMMICK" that it gave him sleepless night's and may or may not been the catalyst for his death. We dont' know exactly. But the other half is simply fans knowing that Chris Nolan is a guy that they given trust to handling the franchise. Trust was earned after BEGINS...get behind it.
Update: DARK KNIGHT Grabs Third Record - Jul 19, 2008 - 05:34pm
Well Almostunbiased, if you may remember back earlier this spring, HANNA MONTANA (god forbid), opened on less than 700 screens and made $24 million dollars in 3-days. But much of that was because disney was charging an arm and a leg at the theaters to see it.STAR WARS back in the day grossed over $400 milion dollars domestically and only opened on less than 500 screens...so you know people went and saw it more than 3, 4 5 or even 12 times because it had the interest factor. Movies that rake in huge amounts of money have that interest factor where you'll want it to see it more than once....key word INTEREST FACTOR. SPEED RACER, opened over on 3000 screens and is one of summers titanic flops because the lack of INTEREST mostly the fault of Warners because today's kids aren't familiar with Speedy, especially when you have CARTOON NETWORK and BOOMERANG and you haven't showed a good deal of the show in years, so you can educate today's audience with the show. And speaking of TITANIC, it opened back when November and December were considered weak months for films and wasn't focused on a great deal of family movies and potential blockbusters like its being done today. TITANIC, was originally planned for a June relase which ironically was the week before what was the summer box-office champ ARMAGEDDON. TITANIC being relased in December absolutely had no competition for 7-weeks until it was finally toppled by the now infamous STAR WARS: SPECIAL EDITION films. If TITANIC had been released when it was originally intended, it probably wouldn't have been the current raining box office king. That be like taking the Jordan era Bulls and have em play the Clippers for 30 straight days. Yeah coming out with a 28-2 record when its all over, you look good too with no competition too.And so far as of today, DARK KNIGHT has already (NOT COUNTING SATURDAY AT THE MOMENT), has already grossed $84 million total from Thursday night and Friday opening numbers. And yes Jyansr...Barbara was adopted and then carried the last name Gordon, though it never really played that way throughout the years, but went under the assumption of being his natural daughter in other told versions during the BATMAN mythos. Not like the STUPIDITY OF SCHUMACHER INFAMY in saying she was Alfred's niece which was nothing but background blasphemy.
Update: DARK KNIGHT Grabs Third Record - Jul 18, 2008 - 09:10pm
Almostunbiased....bottom line: get the record books out. Run time will not hurt the movie. Its what you do in the movie with that run time will determine whether people will come back for seconds, thirds or fourths. And so far most people have seen it 2-3 times already including myself.
And how DARK KNIGHT avoided the R-rating is beyond me. Even though it didn't show blood and had little to almost no hard language, this film skirted with the PG-13 rating harder than any film to date where the rating has come under question since its release because of the visual images and high-impact action....AND I LIKE IT!!! If you want a laid-back BATMAN where the director has a serious fetish with showing men's asses while putting on the rubber suit and showing close-up shots of crotches to make it look like the suit is as tight as a pair of BANANA SMUGGLING SHORTS OF THE 70's, then take your sorry, no-pancake havin without the maple syrup ass and slap in BATMAN & ROBIN....or watch Adam West in all his undignified glory, shaking his beer belly, doin' the BATUSI, have a fake shark GUM his leg to death and forsaking the Batmobile just to be seen OUTRUNNING rush hour traffic while on foot no less in the original BATMAN movie.
The first 10 minutes of the movie reminded me of the final 10 minutes of the over-the-top finale to THE DEPARTED. and the police were more crooked than ever. They'll be helping you one minute then stab their own mothers in the back the next. Probably the same crooked justice where Chloe Kardashian was suppose to serve a 30-day jail sentence only to serve 3 hours today.
But nonetheless...DARK KNIGHT's success is making the rest of DC UNIVERSE (which I can't wait to get my hands on SONY's online version of the game) standing still as far as on-screen films go, though Warners is mostly responisble for that happening because their other projects are either in DEVELOPMENTAL HELL or on WORDPAD HELL since they can't seem to get anything else going. "Now let's put a smile on that face."
Why the Dark Knight Owes Adam West - Jul 17, 2008 - 07:04pm
I loved and hated 60's BATMAN at the same time. Yeah Adam West gets the scripts (ALBEIT FORCE-FED LUNACY). Gotta love that shark gumming on his leg while on the ladder of the Bat-copter. Telling ROBIN that its a good day to get out in the open air for a run....leave the Batmobile (being a open top vehicle), out in the GODDAMN OPEN AND RIDICULOUSLY OUTRUNNING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC WHILE IN PURSUIT OF CRIMINALS!!! OH so now Adam West is in the role of THE FLASH all of the sudden?? Hey....lets not forget how easily they got taken by Shelley Winters and the Hillbilly Bunch. Yeah, might as well get taken by Jessica Simpson while she's eating Chicken of the Sea while wondering where's the chicken is, knowing that its tuna. Yeah....how bout Adam West being disgraced by being forced by KING TUT to shake his beer belly to do the now infamous BATUSI. Well, it could have been worse if Victor Buno shook his washer and dryer belly and his dimpled hind-end doing the BATUSI himself, so thank god that didn't happen. And while we're at it....lets scale a building while tryin to do a job and take a time-out with our daily open window conversation with some humanoid ham n'egger, not realizing that insidious plots are taking place or trying to perform a good deal of stealth......yeah so much for stealth tactics. Why don't you go ahead and have Martha Stewart (has she been around to annoy people then) and invite BATMAN and ROBIN for milk and cookies while THE JOKER sneaks out the back into an alley for a getaway. And don't even get me started why BATMAN was wearing swimtrunks while in costume at the beach.
Yeah Adam West, you been victimzed over the years by a bunch of flea-infested, foul smellin' pot smokin' writers who thought flame broiling a burger at Burger King was 5-star entertainment while hopped up on LSD and laugh manically while it turned brown. Maybe all that lunacy was the reason why you and Burt took those costumes to sex parties and did the dirty with the Caped Crusader groupies (ALLEDGEDLY MENTIONED IN RECENT YEARS). Yeah Adam its not your fault....all you did was show up for a payday. Atleast you had some dignity restored when you did vocals for BATMAN during the classic adventures of BATMAN and ROBIN of the 70's...though I wanted to so badly choke out BATMITE with my bare hands, then later replacing Olan Souchie as BATMAN on The Superfriends. You played Batman better than you did in the 60's.
Hey people it could be worse, lucky this is not a topic on the SPIDERMAN series of the 70's where Nicholas Hammond only swung from corner to corner of a building much pretty much the series and looking totally ridiculous wearing cowboy boots in an episode taking place in an abandon old west town. Yeah....disgrace of another hero, but that's another story for a rainy day.
THE DARK KNIGHT: The Joker's Wild! - Jul 17, 2008 - 06:30am
Hanzo my friend....the day is here. When Scott Mantz mentions Downey's performance, what I think he's getting at is how Downey's timing and wit of playing Stark came off. Downey has this sharp, saracastically smart-alecky funny approach when in Stark mode and virtually had audiences laughing during much of IRONMAN...something that was sorely, and I mean SORELY missing from much, if not almost the entire Tobey McGuire run as SPIDERMAN (save the first film) because SPIDEY as we all know in comics and in cartoon variations comes off as a quippy smart-ass. As Peter Parker, Tobey nails it because Peter generally feels uncomfortable when he tries to stand-up for himself and just lets things roll off, but once Peter becomes SPIDERMAN, he's finds complete freedom of being ballsy and confident that Peter often fears of displaying.
Tobey's (I FEEL LIKE I REALLY WANNA GO TO SLEEP EVERYTIME I DELIVER MY LINES APPROACH) has always annoyed me...and he sounds even worse when he done vocals in the videogame installments based off the films, which often times makes you wonder, if not question just how much dedication he puts into the character which is one of the main reasons why fans has never been totally crazy about Tobey as SPIDERMAN to begin with and why most are embracing the idea of recasting the role to another actor should Tobey not return. And you also noticed people groaned when he expressed interest (MORE LIKE DESIRED) to jump into the role of Rick Hunter should ROBOTECH make it off the drawing board. Not saying he's not a good actor...he is talented. But he can be a better performer if he didn't come off as giving you a feeling that he's half-assing his way through a movie, though he was solid in SEABISCUIT.
Robert Downey, whose always been a solid actor, made his cult following of fans smile from ear to ear, as well as gained some new ones as IRONMAN and made Tony Stark, a lot more enjoyable and a hoot a lot more than he should because he played it as if he was the life of the party...something that not too many actors can pull off with clever ease. Downey can have great chemistry with a broom and a mop and make a performance out of it.
Heath Ledger was always a good actor. Just it took BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN for people to finally take notice in what a deceptively sharp actor he was. And yeah its a shame he's not here to relish in what could have been his finest hour, but I'm sure he's smiling in glee with the man upstairs as DARK KNIGHT is just a few mere hours of being enjoyed. And I seen most of the reviews from various newspapers in print and on-line and its averaging from 3-1/2 to 4-stars from established critics, not from critic WANNABEES (PATRICULARLY THOSE FROM ROTTEN TOMATOES and I HAVEN'T SEEN WHAT THEY HAVE SAID YET NORMALLY BECAUSE MUCH OF THE TIME THAT SITE IN GENERAL AND THOSE WHO RUN IT SHOULD BE LOBOTOMIZED) with much of their butt-fucking insane reviews. But I know for a fact, I will enjoy every second of it.
Box Office: HELLBOY Edges Past Hancock - Jul 13, 2008 - 06:32pm
Only two things bothered me about HELLBOY 2. First, the Golden Army visuals looked rather bland in the finale. It looked like they took a bunch of Binoicle figures and tried to super-impose them on the screen. So that sequence looked kinda rushed towards the end or just wasn't made to look convincing enough. Second, how the ending into the credits occurred....made me wondered did Tarintino sneak onto set and shot the last scene because the reaction to the ending from the audience was mostly bewilderment. One woman behind me said, "Well, that was a pretty generic finish".
Maybe Del Toro tried to be a bit quirky with it along with other parts of the film because it had that 70's type of feel right at the end, but it came off as a bit odd and out of left field somewhat. Other than that, Del Toro is showing more and more that he is a visual marvel.
Its gonna be a while for HELLBOY 3 (MORE LIKE 2013 0R 2014) since he's now beginning early work on THE HOBBIT which he is committed to for 4 years, so he's not gonna have time to toil around with other projects whether be as a producer or a director.
And where the hell are you Hanzo? Time to begin the DARK KNIGHT countdown. Or Flint, you can do it. tick tick....tick tick. Get your tickets early folks, because showtimes are selling out where I'm at and may resort to 24hr openings on Thursday and possibly through the weekend.
Box Office: HELLBOY Edges Past Hancock - Jul 13, 2008 - 02:30pm
Well, last week I said HANCOCK might stay at #1, but I also said I wouldn't be surprised if HELLBOY stole the top spot and it did so good job for HELLBOY. I was really surprised that JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH came in at #3 because I had expected it to get lost in the shuffle with WALL-E and WANTED in the mix.
Eddie, Eddie....Eddie....I know you been re-inventing yourself over the years because the high-octane profane style can only go so far once you do it too much or reach an age were you become mellow. Family oriented material or fan friendly material (LIKE SHREK) can be a good thing when its done right, but not when its completely MINDLESS. Please stop making these type of films because you're starting to drink the same tainted pitcher of kool-aid that ruined Whoopi and Cuba because MEET DAVE had the stentch of PLUTO NASH written all over it and how NORBIT made money last year is beyond me. Eddie needs to go back to clever comedy, do more daring roles like in DREAMGIRLS, or get BEVERLY HILLS COP 4 into production ASAP because not only will your oscar nominated performance in DREAMGIRLS seem like a pipedream (SEE WHOOPI AND CUBA), but you're edging real close to Pauly Shore status if you keep cranking out clunkers like this.
Ladies and gents, the new summer turkey...MEET DAVE, after from passing to SPEED RACER to LOVE GURU. And its amazing that Both Murphy and Myers coming off SHREK crank out movies made to be pitched in the garbage. Now bring on THE DARK KNIGHT so I can skip work.
Marvel Studios Pressuring WB/DC To Change? - Jul 12, 2008 - 01:06pm
Jochimus...the whole situation is a mess. And the Schusters are willing to go as far as taking Superman out from under DC if it means getting control as to where the buck stops or an attempt to get it away from Warners period currently in court. If that were to happen, and personally I can't see Superman NOT BEING UNDER DC, then it may lead to a long line of DC/Warner ugliness because A LOT OF FINGERPOINTING will go around for years. Futhermore, if the Schusters win and they manage to pull it off, would you want to be known as the guy at Warner that lost SUPERMAN?? And how rocky would the boat be between Warner and DC then be?? It may be as bad as the Titanic. And I said it here last month, Warner...you keep screwing up, and I'll see to it personally that you'll only be making Viewmaster slide flicks.
Marvel Studios Pressuring WB/DC To Change? - Jul 12, 2008 - 12:23pm
DC based films have been a mess. While most will say that BATMAN & ROBIN was the worst for reasons that Schumacher with a fetish with giving us close-up shots of Batman and Robin's crotch and ass while putting on the costumes. His fascination with 60's badly conceived cornball humor and Looney Tunes sound effects, seeing Arnold at his embarrassingly worst (DON'T GET ME STARTED WITH THE POLAR BEAR SLIPPERS), written badly all the way around and giving us a new reason to hate Robin with every passing moment. CATWOMAN & SUPERMAN 4 are clearly the worst not by just a country mile....how bout from the distance between the Earth and the Moon.Yeah Nolan restored luster back to the BATMAN franchise, but SUPERMAN has been an utter mess since Superman 3 and Warners wonder why while being stuck on stupid why the Schusters have been in an uproar over the Superman property. FLASH can't seem to outrun developmental hell...WONDER WOMAN getting hosed by the Warner Exec's comment from last fall with his "CHICKS THAT LEAD FLICKS SUCK" and I'm sure had been backpeddling since and they poorly keep hiring idiots that don't know how to do WONDER WOMAN and don't really understand the mythos of the character. And they wonder why directors don't stick around for it. GREEN LANTERN.....we'll believe it once we see it in production and is SUPERMAX really a supposed GREEN ARROW flick or is this some bullshit attempt to sucker people into seeing a movie that isn't what its suppose to be. If Warners want to pull that tactic....hire M. Night instead. DC may have to simply break partnership ties with Warners in order to put their house in order on the big screen front...other than maybe doing something about Dan Didio on top of that. They can still relase their films under Warners just do what Marvel has done, take control of your own shit. I've been saying it for years, I like to see how Bruce Timm and company would handle big screen adaptations as opposed to bringing in scribes that doesn't know a monkey's dick from an ape's ass that are being brought in for the sake of commercialism. And we can't get that to happen, then I'll submit scripts myself.
BATMAN-GOTHAM KNIGHT (Two-Disc Collector's Edition) - Jul 12, 2008 - 11:15am
Moz72...."Legends of the Dark Knight" is on the 2-disc edition. Basically "Have I Got A Story for You" is a redone version of that episode. Along with Mr. Freeze's first appearance in "Heart of Ice" which was one the series best episodes. "I Am the Night" when Gordon was gunned down by The Jazzman and "Over the Edge" in which we don't find out til the final moments of the episode where Batgirl was under the Scarecrow's fear toxin which she has visions of seeing her death at the hands of The Scarecrow, which turned Gordon into a vigilante against Batman, Robin and Nightwing once he unmasked Batgirl only to find out its Barbara. And Hanzo, if you had on the audio commentary, they did reveal that Crispus is indeed in THE DARK KNIGHT which I believe he's the one in the previews where The Joker rants, "WHY SO SERIOUS?" Though they kinda skirted around as to whether how pivotal Ramirez is (WHICH THEY REVEAL THAT SHE IS NOT DETECTIVE MONTOYA IF PEOPLE START TO ASK QUESTIONS) and how much she's in DARK KNIGHT it appears as well, because they didn't wanna give away too much details stemming from "Crossfire" and "Deadshot" which seem to be the only 2 segments in my view that try to bridge the gap between BEGINS and DARK KNIGHT. I did like the fact that they used Tim Burton's Batmobile version in "Working Through the Pain" and Bruce wearing a modified BATMAN RETURNS costume in "In Darkness Dwells". Plus I think we can all agree that despite he didn't have a lot of speaking parts, Kevin Conroy was sorely missed as the voice of Batman since the end of JUSTICE LEAGUE. His voice has become as iconic with one character as much as Peter Cullen had become as Optimus Prime. Also listening to the audio, Kevin had a pretty funny story about how he briefly gave a helping hand at a resturant during 9/11 which one of the cooks (who was an architect brought in as a hired hand), who was also took time out to help out at a the same joint asked Kevin, what he did for a living, and Kevin says....I do voices. Then it dawns onto the guy, "HEY, WE GOT BATMAN AS A SERVER!!" Then he tells everyone else about it. Funny stuff....
DVD Shopping Bag: One Disc, Two Disc, Blue Disc? - Jul 09, 2008 - 06:22pm
I bought GOTHAM KNIGHT and was pretty solid for the most part. The first segment, "Have I Gotta Story to Tell You" was basically a redone edition of the episode "Legends of the Dark Knight" from BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES (WHICH IS ONE THE 4 EPISODES PICKED BY BRUCE TIMM ON DISC-2) where kids had their different perspectives about who or what BATMAN is. But I wasn't too keen on the animation in that sequence, but the other sequences drawn were good and I don't have problems with anime when its straight-forward and attention to detail is generally astounding. But I don't like anime when it comes to GIGANTIC EYEBALLS BULGING OUT LIKE UFO's, UNSURREALISTIC FACIAL EXPRESSIONS, CHARACTERS SUDDENLY DEVELOPING RAZOR SHARP TEETH WHEN YELLING AND FUCKED UP TRANSFORMERS DRAWN LIKE TEEN TITANS IN ROBOT SUITS...when people say they don't like anime, its probably because when they see Pokemon, Dragonball-Z, etc...the style tends to get blackballed because much of it is drawn way too kiddie-like, and that's what is commonly seen on tv on a daily basis. But then when its taken seriously like AKIRA, GHOST IN THE SHELL or APPLESEED, then its not too big of an issue. Plus anime is not all done by japanese as other countries including the States adopted the style (ANIME WANNABES) over the years and went away from the art-deco approach...though Disney still does their own style. Another reason animation on tv comes of as less-inspired in this age is because animators think that it shaves off time when developing episodes. Notice back in the 80's when episodes would look good one day and pretty shitty the next because of the time they needed to get them done and often times would run out of order because they weren't getting them done fast enough, plus trying to do an order of 39 to 60 shows in a season was no easy feat back then. So today's standards is more about puncutatlity and less attention to detail which at times leads to half-assed drawing. While I don't draw as much today as I used to in my youth, I still do things in detail, a style I haven't changed.
Box Office: HANCOCK Flies into July 4th Victory - Jul 07, 2008 - 03:25pm
Now after taking my nap....Alien you misunderstood me on CLOVERFIELD. Some people didn't like it because they don't like the herky-jerky camera movements, others didn't like it because because of its style, made viewers ill. It wasn't simply a report news from Mania, it made entertainment news in general because people either couldn't FINISH watching the movie or some refused to go for repeat viewings because of its style....When BLAIR WITCH came out, people came out in droves because of the hype and it was something original at the time. After it came out, some people didn't like it either because either they'll say it was because of the herky-jerky camera movements (WHICH CLEARLY WERE A LITTLE LESS ERRATIC), or they hate it because they get the same feeling from M. Night Shamalyan movies (SIXTH SENSE and SIGNS BEING EXCEPTIONS), that it was one massive con job. Ever wonder why BLAIR WITCH 2 was a MAJOR box office dud?? FOOL ME ONCE SHAME ON YOU, FOOL ME TWICE SHAME ON ME. And BLAIR WITCH 2, wasn't shot the same way as the first film. Well BLAIR WITCH 1 pulled off a $180 million dollar con job when it was all over and it wasn't everyone's cup of tea. BLAIR WITCH pulled in nearly $90 million in its first week, more than double what CLOVERFIELD did in its first week. But if people gonna be blowing chunks and their eyes rolling in the back of their heads and the problem actually makes CNN news, you not gonna get a lot of people goin back for seconds or thirds. I think if and when they get around to CLOVERFIELD 2, people may reject it as fast as ex-lax.
Box Office: HANCOCK Flies into July 4th Victory - Jul 07, 2008 - 09:10am
CLOVERFILED mostly died because of the Blair Witch camera experience and gave some viewers vertigo, which killed much of its chance for a few repeat viewings. And you must be high if you think DARK KNIGHT is gonna underperform BATMAN BEGINS. History lesson: FF4: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER, even though it was slightly better than the first...mostly because of the Surfer, fell short of outgrossing the first film...not becuase of overblown hype, because people expect more of the same juvenile approach from Tim Story who some think his style is JOEL SCHUMACHER-esque. The style that earned the wrath of COMIC FANDOM BACKLASH because of BATMAN FOREVER and the very infamous BATMAN & ROBIN. Nolan had to earn the trust of BAT-FANS and assured them to wipe the stench of the HEY DUDE TALKIN', DO I LOOK LIKE I BEEN SMOKIN-POT STARIN' JOEL SCHUMACHER. And if you haven't seen Joel when he does interviews, much of the time he looks like he's on another planet. Makes me wonder if he is from another planet. I'd rather watch Dick Vitale on crack than to watch his goofy ass.
Box Office: HANCOCK Flies into July 4th Victory - Jul 07, 2008 - 07:58am
I'm still wondering where's the logic in foliage making you commit suicide in THE HAPPENING?? Or was it a big dose of cigaweed in toxin form?
Box Office: HANCOCK Flies into July 4th Victory - Jul 07, 2008 - 07:42am
Maybe Alien doesn't quite get it Pony and Hanso. Since english doesn't work maybe I'll explain it...perhaps I should start to help explain it in swedish.swedish: "HE-HONDE HEREDE SCHNERDE!!! HE-HONDE HEREDE SCHNERDE NAS VONGA-LIGER ON A TOOT TOOT!!!"Now if you need FURTHER CLARIFICATION, let me say it in chinese....chinese: "CHING-BONG DING-DONG PING-PONG DARK KNIGHT KUNG-LO AIYEEEEEE!!!!" Well Alien, can't help you on Batman Begins other than you want that or do you want it to revert back to Arnold in his polar bear slippers leading his goons in a chorus of "MR. HEATMIZER"??
Box Office: HANCOCK Flies into July 4th Victory - Jul 07, 2008 - 07:10am
Well Alien....DARK KNIGHT is a big deal, because people feel confident about Chris Nolan since he doesn't exhibit signs of being a HAPLESS HACK who's just in it for the money. BATMAN so far is in the RIGHT DIRECTION....unless you want the beer-belly jiggling Adam West while he and Burt Ward (WHO LOOKS LIKE HE ATE ROSIE O'DONNELL nowadays), in their first Batman film...while HILAROUSLY OUTRUNNING CITY TRAFFIC and having a rubber shark gumming Batman's leg, because clearly that shark forgot its dentures before heading out into open water. And you highly doubt it will be bigger than IronMan?? Both films got equal amount of hype in different ways...but like I said previously...DO NOT BE SURPRISED IF DARK KNIGHT IS BOX OFFICE CHAMP WHEN ITS OVER, because the summer list is pretty thin after that. STEPBROTHERS?? Will Farrell started to lose steam when BLADES OF GLORY came out last year when it was only a decent hit and his last film earlier this year, which that name escapes me for the moment FLOPPED big-time. MUMMY 3?? How many people trust Rob Cohen?? Vin Diesel's BABYLON?? Has anyone talked about it?? But more and more I'm starting to wonder if it will come out in August since movies that tend to come out in that month, often has a habit of getting pushed back for a variety of reasons. And lets not get started on how much of a mess SUPERMAN is currently in. By the time they get ready for the next film either the Schusters will finally put their foot in Warners ass before it goes before it goes in production or IronMan 2, AntMan and potentially Nolan's third BATMAN film will be out. Then Warners will get stuck on stupid, get silly and want to start talking about Justice League again, want to get rid of Singer and his writers....errr keep Singer but get rid of his writers.....errr maybe we need to give Mark Millar a chance.....ERRR but may Millar might have a conflict of interest since he does DC and Marvel....ERRR...lets make Brandon Routh the scapegoat for SUPERMAN RETURNS underwhelming performance and get rid of him...ERRR maybe it REALLY WASN'T HIS FAULT since all he did was show up and put on the suit...OH WAIT...we got this big ass mess on CW that is the totally misguided and long-in-the-tooth SMALLVILLE. Oh yeah....who was responsible for that LOIS & CLARK junk?? Hold on...hold on...does anyone remember watching SUPERBOY: THE SERIES?? And lets not get started as to why Chris Reeve was out of shape in SUPERMAN 4?? Why Warners gave Golan-Globus the keys to make that movie?? Why Gene Hackman was dubbing all the lines for Mark Pillow?? How was Muriel Hemingway was able to breathe in space....and in her business suit on top of that? Did anyone else wanted to kill Jon Cryer besides me over his Lenny character?? I would get started on SUPERMAN 3, but that's where the downfall started and the rest we know is history.
Box Office: HANCOCK Flies into July 4th Victory - Jul 07, 2008 - 06:19am
You're right Ponyboy...which is why some felt it was disappointing. Like I said, HANCOCK was more of a drama than a comedy (DRAMEDY)....which seemed to be Berg's intent. And as I stated, would really like to see what was left on the cutting room floor since it did go through edits and re-shoots.
Box Office: HANCOCK Flies into July 4th Victory - Jul 07, 2008 - 06:00am
We'll get it right Hanso.....MEMENTO, MEMENTO, MEMENTO..............everyone repeat after Hanso......M-E-M-E-N-T-O...MEMENTO. This is what happens when I get home from 8 hours of work.
Box Office: HANCOCK Flies into July 4th Victory - Jul 07, 2008 - 05:13am
Thanks for correcting me Goatarist......I meant to type MEMENTO not Demento. Also, since they did edit a good portion of HANCOCK, like to see what was left on the editing floor because parts of it was on the vague side when it came to explaining Charlize's character. Sometimes scenes that get left on the floor often times can help a movie stand out more. AVP REQUIEM is a big example when a lot of the illogic plot holes in the theatrical version was filled by the restored scenes on DVD which made the movie come off with more sense and fewer questions. HANCOCK did come off more as a drama than a comedy. The laughs were there, but it happened early and was kept in small doses the rest of the way while the drama took over which may have been Berg's intent. But the movie was only 92 minutes and it got to the point...albeit vague in some spots. Plus the ending clearly leaves it open for a sequel. By the way Dazzler, you may be on an island by yourself after saying it should have been more like MY SUPER-EX GIRLFRIEND.....the MAJOR TURKEY OF 2006 that may or not have killed the resurgence of Uma Thurman after KILL BILL. The last thing she needs is another trip of cinema hell after BATMAN & ROBIN and THE AVENGERS....two major turkeys released 5 weeks apart in the same summer back in '95. Uma doesn't have that teflon pan ability to shake off bad movies like Sean Connery who was more embarrassed holding an evil genius meeting along with a group of guys wearing grizzly bear suits, in one of MANY...FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PICK ANY SCENE IN THAT MOVIE!!! And its kind of funny since only people remember how bad BATMAN & ROBIN was when the shitty film of the year was THE AVENGERS, which tells you that THE AVENGERS was SO BAD......NOBODY ELSE WANTS TO REMEMBER IT.
Box Office: HANCOCK Flies into July 4th Victory - Jul 06, 2008 - 05:49pm
Well, like I said last week. Will Smith has reached a point in his career where "YOU HAVE TO SEE HIS MOVIES"....whether good or not so good. HANCOCK is good, but not great but still a fun ride and no surprise about its box office take. Which was probably the kind of take Disney was expecting out of WALL-E last week but they didn't count on WANTED doing that well and WANTED was promoting more frquently than WALL-E was. From Tom Cruise, Julia Roberts, Meg Ryan, Denzel Washington, Robin Williams to Jim Carrey and now Will Smith. They reach that point to where they're so likeable that you have to take a trip to the movies. Tom and Denzel still command screen presence with certain films that gets media attention while others have lost steam over the years, but Robin and Jim find their niche in animated projects because they've become more animated performers, as Mike Myers is starting to find out after Love Guru became officially the (SUMMER TURKEY) ahead of Speed Racer, even though Speed Racer wasn't a bad movie, just lack of interest on the American front because kids today don't know Speed Racer....and the latest Speedy cartoon doesn't count because it just recently started. Warners is to blame because you have "CARTOON NETWORK" and "BOOMERANG" and really haven't showed the classic toon a great deal nowadays as opposed to the early years when both networks came about. Kids know what Pokemon is (GOD FORBID)....they know what Transfromers is (THANKS POKEMON, POWER RANGERS, SABAN ENTERTAINMENT IN GENERAL AND GLEN MURAKAMI FOR RAPING AND BASTARDIZING THE G-1 CONCEPT)....but not know who Speedy is too well. Now HELLBOY is next and while I expect HANCOCK to remain #1, Hellboy is gonna perform better than what people think and the first Hellboy was a box office hit, just now that Del Toro has gained a good deal of momentum because of Pan's Labyrinth and carving out a niche as a solid visual director...much like Tim Burton. Then after that its DARK KNIGHT. Some people talked about how Batman Begins wasn't huge at the box office despite grossing just shy of $200 million. Remember folks, Nolan had to earn the trust of the fans to make sure that HIS Batman had to wipe the stentch of the DREADED SCHUMACHER ERA which created the whole FANDOM BACKLASH AT COMIC FILMS being made for profit and not for caring about the source material in the first place. Plus people didn't know too much about Chris Nolan other than hearing his acclaimed flick DEMENTO. So naturally, there was gonna be hesitation in the beginning but ultimately won people over....now knowing that Batman is in good hands so far, don't be surprised that DARK KNIGHT winds up being the summer champ when its all over, which I believe it will be because the summer list of anticipated movies gets VERY THIN.
Box Office: WALL-E Victorious But WANTED Strikes Hard - Jun 29, 2008 - 04:20pm
Hang on, I was just handed a note by James McAvoy concerning WANTED stealing some of WALL-E's audience over the weekend.
FROM JAMES McAVOY: "Disney......I'M SORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRY!!"
Box Office: WALL-E Victorious But WANTED Strikes Hard - Jun 29, 2008 - 03:22pm
Appearently Wiseguy, you must do a poor job at tracking Will Smith's July 2nd box office track record. Will Smith has reached a point in his career in which whenever he has a big movie, especially his "CONTRACTUALLY ETCHED IN STONE JULY 2 MANDATE", it generally means bonafide hit. While WILD WILD WEST was a turkey (and still made a profit shockingly), was his weakest, worse and lowest moneymaker AS A SUPERSTAR. Six Degress to Separation, which was solid... doesn't count because he wasn't on the Hollywood map at the time and it got limited theater play even during his FRESH PRINCE run.I wasn't too keen about I AM LEGEND back in December. I didn't hate it, just thought it was underwhelming but its success was guranteed regardless. I, ROBOT...same feeling yet success guaranteed but that was on his July 2 mandate and it did rake in more money than it probably should have. HANCOCK is getting as much pub as THE DARK KNIGHT, because...1. its Will Smith...NO SURPRISE2. the idea of a superhero who saves you 1 minute, then turns into "Stone Cold" Steve Austin on your ass the next when he feels unappreciated, gets drunk and cause more destruction than Godzilla with little regard for anyone has been the big sellig pointis why people find this hero (MORE LIKE ANTI-HERO) pretty damn funny and wanting to see it in droves and the part where he tosses the kid in the air for calling him a jerk (edited for tv, while he called him an asshole in the previewed theatrical version), continues to be the one mark out scene that gets the loudest laughs3. Of all his July 2 releases, HANCOCK is probably Will's most eagerly anticipated sinceINDEPENDENCE DAY (though it was the concept of aliens bringing worldwide destructionas the selling point more than it was Will, plus he had a star-studded supporting castas cannon-fodder).HELLBOY 2, despite being sandwiched between big releases when it comes on the 11th, will do better than anyone expects and probably will be #2, but will have the impact in that spot as WANTED did at #2. May not have the same impact box-office gross wise, but will perform well. And Disney I'm sure has to be more disappointed than happy at WALL-E and its box-office take. Yeah they should be happy at $62.5 million, but having most of its thunder stolen and A BIG CHUNK OF IT I MIGHT ADD from WANTED probably stunned them more than anybody. I seen WANTED last night, and boy did it deliver. WALL-E is a success, but to Disney's standards (which generally are arrogant standards), somewhat bittersweet as they probably expected WALL-E to run roughshod at the theaters, but I think it was more their failing as WANTED was promoted bigger and better than WALL-E during the weeks we kept track of it. Someone in the Disney office probably had this thought in mind......."HEY, IT'S A DISNEY FILM. HOW MANY PEOPLE GONNA GO SEE AN R-RATED ACTION FLICK MATRIX-WANNABEWITH ANGELINA, MORGAN AND J. McAVOY??" Appearently a lot more than you realized Disney.Just because you slap a Disney name on it, doesn't gurantee you box-office supremacy anymore. That peak was reached with THE LION KING and TOY STORY, though Pixar and Disney bicker over who deserves credit for TOY STORY (Pixar in my view)... and don't get me started on how many Disney clunkers you got in your vault. Underdog, Insepctor Gadget and Robin Williams' FLUBBER remake to name a few. And it amazes me how people can sniff out a Disney clunker better than any other clunker by any other studio....COUNTRY BEARS and DUDLEY DO-RIGHT anyone??But nonetheless.....July is gonna be dictated by Big Willie early on, but once the 18th hits, a bunch of bats and Joker grins lurk in the shadows ready to strike.

Then forgive the error on my part Amish, I was getting hounded by yahoo chats during my last posts and got me unfoucused when I did it my last comment. Been a hectic day so far....I meant to respond to Todd's comment.
Top Maniacal Rumors: Shazam-mess , Avengers Team & Super Survival - Jun 27, 2008 - 12:15pm
Well Amish....since Toho (who owns Godzilla) wasn't happy with the american treatment is making sure that....
1. Roland Emmerich's version was an insult to Toho and probably will never again let it
done by American.
2. Toho definitely made sure that there won't be no more American Godzilla, when he was
laughably killed in 10 seconds by Japanese Godzilla in Godzilla: Final Wars as a big
F-U to Roland for making Godzilla fans angry.
Top Maniacal Rumors: Shazam-mess , Avengers Team & Super Survival - Jun 27, 2008 - 07:16am
As far as Captain Marvel goes.....he was around before Marvel became Marvel. So you can go either way....his sounding cry Shazaam was used as the title for the laughably bad, yet guilty pleasure 70's tv show. Not too many people remember or realized he had a show back then when it came on late saturday mornings. And believe me Not-A-Fan, there is no way in an ELEPHANT's ANAL that people will mistake Shazaam for that BIG UNCOORINDATED, SHAQ-BONIC TALKIN (english butcherin' with a mouthful of rocks version ofEBONICS), HOW DOES HIS ASS TASTE WITH HIS NON-RAPPIN, NO-PANCAKE HAVIN SNAGGLE-TOOTHED, ALL-DUNK AND BRICKLAYIN' FREE THROW SHOOTIN' 2 BUCKETS OF EXTRA-CRISPY KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN SHORT OF 400 LBS WITH BAD KNEES THAT STUNK UP THE JOINT IN PHOENIX AND GOT THAT ASS WAXED IN 4 GAMES AGAINST SAN ANTONIO UPPER-LIP SMELLIN SON OF A BITCH!!!AND DON'T EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVEN GET ME STARTED ON STEEL AND THAT RETARDED ASS SHAQ-FU VIDEOGAME!!!! Now back to important topics........A 300 prequel is workable because its Frank Miller and Zack Snyder, not George "MY STORYTELLING HAS BEEN MISGUIDED SINCE DOING HOWARD THE DUCK" Lucas.Avengers is so far appears to be on the right tack with current story arcs of IronMan and Hulk in play.Justice League....THANKFULLY is in developmental hell, because Warners not only have to amp up the next installment of Superman, but you need to establish the other major DC players and hopefully Green Lantern doesn't get stalled on its way to the big screen...as evidenced currently with The Flash, and FIRE that dumbass Warners head honcho for his stupidity 7 months ago that Wonder Woman may never be made as a solo film because of his "CHICKS THAT LEAD FLICKS SUCK" comment. And I said this once before to you Warners and I'm not jokin' around. You screw up Justice League, I will see to it personally that you go from making Hollywood movies to ViewMaster slide flicks. As far as Cloverfield 2 goes....make sure that this film doesn't cause another round of vertigo complaints.
Hellboy 3......uh I do believe that Ron Pearlman is pushing 50. Even though he stays in great shape, don't pull an Indiana Jones and have us wait for 20 years.
Nicole Ritchie Joining NBC's CHUCK - Jun 26, 2008 - 01:28pm
Speaking of no talent......yeah SHAQ, DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED WITH KAZAAM, STEEL, THE SHAQ-FU GIMMICK AND VIDEOGAME, BEING 2 BAGS OF M&M's away of being 400lbs with bad knees, being known as a giant tree that made his rep in his career as a DUNK ONLY AND BRICK ARTIST AT THE FREE THROW LINE PLAYER....and his NEVER-ENDING TALKING WITH A MOUTHFUL OF ROCKS SHAQBONICS, because everytime he opens his mouth he makes THE GREAT KHALI SOUND LIKE A ROCKET SCIENTIST. Yeah I can do a 5000-page graphic novel on SHAQ and it be just that....GRAPHIC, because of his sorry, NO-PANCAKE HAVIN WITH MAPLE SYRUP EATIN ASS. HEY SHAQ, HOW DOES TIM DUNCAN'S ASS TASTE AFTER GETTING SWEPT 4-0?? ERRRRRRRRRRRRR...................YEAH GOT NO RAP FOR THAT ONE DO YA?? YOU STUPID PUKE!!! YEAH, I DON'T BLAME MRS. SHAQ FOR DIVORCING HIM EITHER AND LIKE THAT WAS KOBE's FAULT. SEEMS TO ME MRS. SHAQ IS SAYING THAT HE TOSSES BRICKS IN THE BEDROOM TOO!!
Ron Jeremy?
