Landis Leaves Chronicle Sequel

Differences with Fox

Max Landis spoke with Total Film about his sequel to Chronicle. Landis has revealed that the sequel will go on without him. Fox had initially hired Landis to write a sequel to the high successful $127 million grossing Chronicle. There was talk that Fox didn’t like Landis’ new script. Landis has now revealed he has been off the project for a while now.

“Fox had a different direction they wanted to take the series,” explains Landis. “The truth is, when you're successful as a screenwriter, you have to just take everything in stride. That's like more than half the job.”

He then said: “Chronicle 2 is still probably happening, just not with my involvement as of now. It's a bummer, but there are no real hard feelings. They hired new writers on it. I'm sure they'll announce soon.”

So Maniacs, are you in for a sequel to Chronicle since Landis is out of the project? Sound off below!

I'm sure that the clowns Fox hires will screw it up royally.

would have loved to see the rejected script to compare with what comes out

despite being rejected he remains very respectful... wise for a guy who doesn't want to jeopardize any future gigs... BUT

we all know after he was rejected he wanted to go postal on the studio execs who wanted a more commercial take on his baby.

so did this movie really need a sequal anyway?

aegrant, i think it did why not?

I didn't think it need a sequel.  It was a good self contained story.  The conflict has been resolved in that the abused kid isn't around any more, and the last remaining guy of the trio is off exploring the world.

I guess they can make a sequel, like how do governments respond to this guy or does anyone else find the ship.  It's just that it doesn't seem like there necessarily NEEDED to be a sequel.

It would be pretty easy to do.

We saw the three guys in the first one - but that doesn't mean that someone(s) didn't show up to "find it" five minutes later?

What if the powers were passed along, like the flu, for the people they first made contact with in xxxx number of hours/days?

We don't know that this was the only object that fell.  What if one fell in Russia, only the military got to and further trained their special people into weapons?

Lots of options open... :0

This guy is very green. Fox could have easily made the right decision in letting him go.

Anyway that's part of the business and he obviously knows this. I bet most writers' works don't ever see the light of day, the odds are always against them. They need to know not to take it personal and just keep moving forward
