I came here to kick ass and talk about graphic novels. And I got bookshelves full of graphic novels.
Ugh. New comic day. It's a busy day, if you're a comic shop's retail staff. A day full of boxes which need to be opened and emptied, books which need to ... Read More
Will Smith and Spielberg Remaking OLDBOY - Nov 09, 2008 - 10:59am
Why is this movie being remade? It's just KOREAN!
This isn't a remake, it's a rip-off. They can't even develop their own ideas anymore. This has nothing to do with Smith or Speilberg, or Tom Hanks (the other star being mentioned for the roll), this is just a cheap an uncreative grab for cash and attention.
"Yeah, that one. I want to make that movie."
But somebody already did.
"I don't care. We're gonna make it anyway."
But it's already been made. I own it. It's right here. You're watching it. You can have my copy.
"No, I want to remake it. Take out all those confusing Asian people and rewrite the whole thing to suit my agenda."
.............
Listen, back in the day, it made sense to remake foreign films, because nobody was watching them. People didn't understand the cultural gap, there weren't people bringing a lot of movies over, stuff like that. But today, ANYBODY can go into almost ANY video rental place, and rent or buy OLDBOY. It doesn't need to be remade. You can just go get the original and enjoy it. It was only filmed a few years ago.
Pathetic. It's just pathetic to see these "filmmakers" so bankrupt of ideas that all they can do is re-enact hits from my DVD shelf.
Mendes says PREACHER has a long road ahead - Nov 09, 2008 - 10:51am
I have felt for years that it is my duty as a somebody who really loved Preacher to say: A cinematic treatment of Preacher would be a really bad idea. As a fan, I am 100% AGAINST FILMING PREACHER.
You want to make a lame comic-book movie? Do Green Lantern. You want to do a Garth Ennis property? Do HITMAN. But leave Preacher alone. It's a wonderful comic, and it doesn't need to be watered down by getting pissed on by the film industry. I just hate that crap where people report that the fans are excited about shit like this. I know lots of Preacher fans, and only the real dumb-ass jock-rock types ever tell me that they want to see Preacher put in front of cameras.
Paramount, Pitt pop for Pope's BATTLING BOY - Nov 06, 2008 - 12:07pm
I dig Pope, but I always think it's a real crap move when comics are given cinematic development deals before the actual comic has been published.
