It is a sad day for animation and fans of cartoons everywhere. Legendary animation giant Lou Scheimer has passed away. The Emmy and Grammy winning co-founder of Filmation was 85 years old. “Scheimer underwent quadruple bypass surgery and was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Scheimer was still working even as late as the April of 2012, providing consulting work for Gang of Seven Animation”.

If you do not recognize the name you will remember the vast body of work he brought to life. Scheimer help create (in one capacity or another) The New Adventures of Superman, Fantastic Voyage, Aquaman, The Batman Superman Hour, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Fat Albert, Star Trek: The Animated Series, Shazam, Space Academy, Tarzan and Flash Gordon, Ghostbusters, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, She-Ra Princess of Power and BraveStarr.

Scheimer also voiced numerous secondary characters including: Orko, King Randor, Trap Jaw, Dumb Donald, Tracy the Gorilla, and Bat-Mite.

Though Lou is no longer with us, his creations will entertain generations for years to come. Mania's prayers and thoughts go out to the Scheimer Family.

Honestly?...my favorite Filmation cartoon will always be Fat Albert...apparently he mainly only produced the holiday specials, but still bears mentioning.  I'm glad he helped make my childhood entertaining.

R.I.P. Mr. Scheimer. I will always remember your work.  You were one of the best.

He-Man and Superfriends, etc. were the foundations of my childhood entertainment.  For all the campiness or whatever people see today, I still love these old cartoons.

Thanks, Mr. Scheimer for all the fantastic memories.  You are greatly missed.  RIP
