Mummy Joe, Babylon Butchered & Bloom Madness! - Apr 11, 2008 - 09:47am
Southland Tales is one of the worst movies I have even seen. And I loved Donnie Darko. Richard Kelly has the potential to be an amazing director... but ST lacked focus and was completely self-indulgent.

TERROR, INC #5 - Mar 06, 2008 - 08:18am
This was, by far, my favorite Marvel mini in a long time.

LOST: The Economist - Feb 16, 2008 - 09:33pm
Do the letter grades in these reviews ever actually mean anything? This is practically a rave review (and justifiably so), but then the episode gets a B?

Jane Ready to RUN for McTiernan - Feb 12, 2008 - 11:08am
Perhaps the title is a typo and it was meant to be "Runs." In which case, we might be in for 100 minutes of Thomas Jane speeding around the city in various vehicles looking for a public bathroom.

Jane Ready to RUN for McTiernan - Feb 10, 2008 - 02:15pm
Anybody else think it odd that a movie described as "a spectacular vehicle stunt-action chase movie" is called Run?

Talking Torchwood - Jan 30, 2008 - 09:56am
"Peter Pan, Harry Potter, Flash Gordon, among other things." I don't begin to understand this. Care to enlighten me? Are you reciting the top of your Netflix queue for me? I thought the finale was absolutely brilliant. I was not able to catch the episodes until they came out on DVD. I have to admit there are some extremely weak episodes such as the Dalek two-parter and the Lazarus episode. But the last half of the season is some of the best sci-fi put out in years.

Rise Up and Hear the Bells: The Return of Captain America - Jan 30, 2008 - 09:46am
What is the big deal about the gun? People do remember that Steve Rogers used to brandish a gun all the time, back in the day, right? Besides that, Steve and Bucky are different characters. Sure, Bucky is taking over the mantle of Captain America. But like Kurt said, I would find it particularly implausible and out-of-character for the Winter Soldier to give up firearms completely. People who refuse to read Brubaker because he is diverging from the Cap they grew up with are missing out on some great stories.

Talking Torchwood - Jan 30, 2008 - 09:16am
"the crash and burn that was the finale of Doctor Who series 3"??? That finale is among the best of modern Doctor Who episodes. What is not to like?

Y: THE LAST MAN Trilogy Coming? - Jan 30, 2008 - 09:08am
I am also curious as to where all this Shia hate is coming from. In every interview I have seen, he comes off as a nice and funny guy. Besides, even if is he is a prick, his performances have been fantastic... he pretty much carried Disturbia. Personally, I'd rather have Shia play Yorick than some super nice but terrible actor.

Raimi Moving Forward with WIZARD'S FIRST RULE - Jan 29, 2008 - 12:55pm
ryanwareham: What else have you read by Goodkind? I am only familiar with his SoT books. The good news is this is the best book in the series (except for maybe Faith of the Fallen). I used to love this series, but it dramatically declined in quality after the 6th book.

New TV Series Based on CRASH - Jan 29, 2008 - 12:49pm
I agree with almost everything you aid, rudewordsmith. But you forgot to mention the other response you get when you say you don't like this movie: You must be racist. I am convinced this is why Crash won the Oscar. The thing I don't like about this movie is how hamfisted and preachy it is. This movie has an agenda, and just hammers you over the head with it. Is it dealing with an important social issue? Yes, of course. Is it doing it in a subtle way? No. If you want to see a movie that communicates a message in a subtle and intelligent way, go see Babel.

New TV Series Based on CRASH - Jan 28, 2008 - 02:00pm
I have to agree that this was one of the most overrated movies ever... it's on a long list of movies that should never have won any awards. Like Million Dollar Baby.

Bond 22 Has a New 'Quantum' Title - Jan 24, 2008 - 07:55pm
da82kid: Seriously? You looked up those words on dictionary.com? Did your mom help you type in the URL?

Wolverine: Origins #21 - Jan 22, 2008 - 11:24am
I actually enjoyed this issue quite a bit. Deadpool is the only one engaging in any Looney Tunes behavior. Wolverine appropriately wonders whether Wade has finally gone completely off the deep end. Way and Dillon seem to still be pursuing realism here, which only highlights what a nutjob Deadpool is.

PRISON BREAK: Fire/Water - Sep 26, 2007 - 08:29am
Sure, Sucre runs into Linc. Why not? It is not like that is any less believable than Michael, Bellick, Mahone, and T-Bag all ending up in the same Panamanian prison. I am done with this show.

JOURNEYMAN: Pilot - Sep 26, 2007 - 08:26am
I could not disagree with the reviewer more. You give this, one of the better pilots I have seen so far this year, a D. And you give Prison Break, a show that stretches believability to the point of frustration, a B. As for the use of "emo music" you do realize that they were playing popular music from the time periods he was visiting, right?

Gugino is Jupiter in WATCHMEN - Aug 08, 2007 - 02:43pm
Not sure how well she fits the role, but I do love me some Carla Gugino.

Full Cast for Shyamalan's HAPPENING - Aug 05, 2007 - 12:04pm
I've got to agree that Unbreakable is his best film. I would love to see Shyamalan get the opportunity to make his planned trilogy of Unbreakable movies.

PUNISHER 2 Details from Lionsgate - Aug 01, 2007 - 08:29pm
Graver... Have you ever seen Rome? Stevenson is a fantastic actor. Anyone familiar with Titus Pullo would know that Stevenson should be able to pull off a very convincing Frank Castle.

A Fantastic Feud: Your Letters - Jun 27, 2007 - 02:58pm
While it would be cool for WWH and Annihilation to intersect, doesn't WWH end probably six months before Annihilation wraps up?

INVASION Trailer - Jun 11, 2007 - 08:38am
Um, am I the only one who is made more interested in the project because of the Wachowskis' reshoots?

Ramirez Joins HEROES - Jun 02, 2007 - 05:31am
With the casting of Hayden Panettiere, the producers were already able to lure in the fans of Ice Princess. Er, I mean, what is Ice Princess? Never heard of it...

GALACTICA Will End After Fourth Season - Jun 02, 2007 - 05:25am
You know how I know someone is not a troll? When they at some point have posted a comment that has something positive to say. Metalwater, until I read a positive post from you, your name will be penciled in the "troll" column. Merin, on the other hand, does seem to have the capacity to actually enjoy some things he reads/watches. As such, his opinion carries far more weight. I for one am very glad to hear that this next season of BSG is the last. How often does a great show have the opportunity to end on its own terms? Too many get canceled without much notice and have unresolved (Invasion) or extremely unsatisfying (Carnivale) endings.

Anderson Set to Helm SPY HUNTER - Jun 02, 2007 - 04:56am
metalwater: Annapolis? Are you serious? That has to be one of the WORST movies that came out last year. I'll grant that Better Luck Tomorrow was good, but even Tokyo Drift was barely watchable. I agree with you about Whedon, but Lin is starting to look like a one hit wonder. Thank God he has not made any progress on an Oldboy remake. scoxocs: hahaha... I haven't thought about Bubbles for a long time. Good times.

Taking the Good with the Bad: My Thoughts on Spider-Man 3 - May 10, 2007 - 09:28am
Gotta agree with you Ponyboy. The Harry plot WAS the best part of the movie. Which really surprised me. Who would have thought Franco could carry a movie?

More TERMINATORS in the Future - May 10, 2007 - 09:24am
Maybe I need to go back and watch the original again. I just remember that when I rewatched it before T3 came out, I was surprised how dated it felt.

More TERMINATORS in the Future - May 09, 2007 - 11:30pm
It's not just the special effects that don't hold up. It's really the story. Terminator was great when it came out. I honestly just think it isn't as compelling as the sequels. And we've been spoiled by many superior sci-fi movies in the intervening years.

Taking the Good with the Bad: My Thoughts on Spider-Man 3 - May 09, 2007 - 11:25pm
Merin... definitely check out Eternals. Really good stuff, especially if you like Gaiman's other stuff. And JRJr is at his best. Knew next to nothing about the characters going in, and still loved it. And I am going to have to agree that Simone is a good writer. And "Welcome to Tranquility" is her best work right now. Check it out if you haven't already. Just a fun book.

More TERMINATORS in the Future - May 09, 2007 - 10:42pm
I really liked the third movie. Of course it was not good as T2, but it really was probably superior to the first, which hasn't held up very well over time. How can you not like a movie with that BLEAK an ending? You have to respect the fact that Mostow did not cave into a studio executive demanding a happy ending.

Screen Gems Plans for ARMAGEDDAGAIN - May 09, 2007 - 08:23am
While I was definitely not a big fan the first time I saw it, Not Another Teen Movie gets better with every viewing. The Airplane movies are also excellent spoofs.

Screen Gems Plans for ARMAGEDDAGAIN - May 09, 2007 - 08:00am
I'm sorry, I must have seen a different movie than you. DATE MOVIE was funny? That may have been the worst two hours of my life.

SPIDER-MAN 3 - May 06, 2007 - 09:45am
...SPOILERS... so i finally got a chance to see this last night, and i have to say i am disappointed. I loved the first two (I think SP2 is behind only Batman Begins in quality), but this one seemed to somehow try and fit too much in and not have any substance. I think a lot of material ended up on the cutting room floor, or there was a previous iteration of the script that had more depth. The primary example of this is the Gwen Stacy plot line. Why have Brock and Gwen have a previous relationship, and not explore that once Brock becomes Venom? It seems obvious that Venom would have put Gwen in harms' way, especially after seeing Peter Parker chasing after his girl. That could have had a lot of potential, if they had developed the Parker/Stacy relationship a little more. They could even have had Spider-Man's failed attempt to save Gwen's life from the comics. And why cast a legitimate actor as Gwen's father, and then barely include him in the movie? A lot of people complain that there was not enough Venom in the movie... I think he was meant to have a greater presence, terrorizing the Stacy family. Anyway, my two cents...

Tyler Set as HULK Love Interest - May 04, 2007 - 06:53pm
Merin, I agree with you 100% about Liv Tyler being a downgrade from Jennifer (or, as my wife likes to call her, "the big boob girl") Connelly. But c'mon! What's up with the Keeping the Faith hate? That has to be one of the few bearable romantic comedies of the decade. And Norton was great in it. You want a bad Norton performance in a terrible movie: Death to Smoochie.

Mel Mulls Over MAVERICK Sequel - May 01, 2007 - 08:33pm
This is the only way Mel revitalizes his career: going back to acting in fun movies, and avoiding directing pretentious movies.

Universal Sets Ford as Fraser's son for M3 - May 01, 2007 - 08:29pm
jppintar326: gotta agree. can;t imagine this will be worth seeing without the lovely Weisz.

"Day Watch" Poster released - Apr 24, 2007 - 05:56pm
I'm with you ponyboy... even with the hype, I think Nightwatch was very underrated. Maybe it was the visuals that sucked me in... but I can't really think of another fantasy/horror that I have enjoyed more.

Edward Norton is the "Hulk" - Apr 16, 2007 - 10:51am
Nax: While people certainly do recognize "big" names like Ben Affleck and Nicholas Cage, I don't think anyone really thinks of them as good actors. Or sees a movie just because of those guys is in it. The difference here is that Norton is both well-known, and a great actor. This is perfect casting... he'll take the part seriously (unlike Cage) and I think we'll see more depth to Banner than the first time around. I liked the first Hulk quite a bit, but Norton is a huge upgrade over Bana. I have to agree that there is no need for a reboot... just do a sequel. And I'd be very happy to see Jennifer Connelly back again.

Michael Bay to direct "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" - Apr 14, 2007 - 10:56pm
Bay seems like a good directorial choice here. The Sands of Time movie needs to be visually stunning, something Bay can provide in spades. If they refocus the plot back to that of the game, I could see this being the best video game adaptation so far. Not like that means anything though...

"Fallen Son: The Death of Captain America" - Apr 14, 2007 - 10:47pm
Gotta agree about Runaways 25. Joss Whedon has really been knocking them out of the park, with Buffy and Runaways. If only Astonishing could keep a schedule. As for Fallen Son, I thought it was a decent read. Nothing spectacular, but the involvement of Daredevil and Strange made it worthwhile. And while I can see how someone might see this as a needless tie-in, I am glad that they are examining the reactions to the death of so prominent a character in the MU.

"24: 10:00 PM – 11:00 PM" - Apr 12, 2007 - 10:34am
I have to admit that while 24 has been so-so most of the season, this last episode was great. One question: Why the picture of Tony Almeida with this story?

David Goyer writes "Super Max" - Apr 09, 2007 - 04:09pm
Merin, this concept is "original" in the sense that they would be breaking from the perception that you have to start a superhero franchise with an origin story. That in itself makes me want to support the movie. It might encourage studios to stop throwing out garbage like the first FF movie... That said, I have nothing against a good origin story (Batman Begins). I just think screenwriters need to be more creative with superhero stories before interest falters and the bottom falls out.

David Goyer writes "Super Max" - Apr 09, 2007 - 12:42pm
gotta say i completely agree with godsonfilm here. This actually seems like a pretty good way to tell a green arrow story. He's not superpowered, so you don't have to have lengthy exposition establishing the origin of said powers. Instead, you can throw him in a very dangerous situation, and examine how he uses his marksmanship to survive. I love superhero movies, and I applaud the attempt to move away from the formulaic origin story. My only reservation is that a very similar story was just told in Daredevil. And I'd much rather see Brubaker's first DD arc on the big screen.

Sin City on TV? - Apr 06, 2007 - 09:01am
I could be wrong, but I would imagine that given the green-screen nature of the filming of the movies, they actually must have relatively low budgets. And I could see that continuing on TV, given smart casting.

"24: 9:00 PM – 10:00 PM" - Apr 05, 2007 - 11:53am
I think Chloe is one of the better characters on TV. Sure she can be annoying, but she has so many socially-inappropriate but funny moments. Like when she walked up to Morris, kissed him, he asked "what was that for?" and she answers "I was just testing your breath for alcohol."

Halle Berry says No to "Storm" spin-off - Apr 05, 2007 - 10:29am
While this is great news for fans (I don't think ANYONE was clamoring for a Berry-starring Storm movie), isn't this a dumb move for her? I mean, other than playing Storm, she hasn't had a lot of success as an actress. Yes, she won an Oscar... but so did Marisa Tomei.

Rhythm & Hues Studio named FX Studio for "The Incredible Hulk" - Apr 05, 2007 - 10:13am
I agree that the CGI in Narnia was underwhelming. Or maybe it was the makeup... I thought Mr. Tumnus looked ridiculous. As for this new Hulk movie, is anyone scared to see "from a script by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Zak Penn?" Since Kirby is dead, I hope this just means that Penn is respecting the source material.... and not that Stan Lee has creative input here. While Lee was great in his day, his more recent work is in the "so bad it's almost good" category. I also thought that the Ang Lee's Hulk movie was unappreciated, and is actually one of the better Marvel movies that has been made. Probably only the Spider-Man and X-Men movies have been better.

"24: 9:00 PM – 10:00 PM" - Apr 05, 2007 - 10:03am
I've loved 24 in the past (i thought the first two season were incredible), but I am starting to sour on the show. It really feels like we haven't had a new plot line in a few years now, and other than Jack and Chloe, I could care less about the rest of the cast. The show hasn't been the same since they killed off Tony and Michelle.

Grant Morrison to write "Area 51" - Apr 04, 2007 - 12:19pm
Without Grant Morrison, I would not have any hopes for this project. With him, I think we may be looking at an adaptation of a video game that might be worth watching.

Mark Bagley drawing "Mighty Avengers" - Apr 03, 2007 - 05:26pm
Bagley is fantastic, and it is my understanding that Cho will be back after Bagley's run.

Luke Goss joins "Hellboy 2" - Apr 01, 2007 - 10:32am
I didn't mind the idea of KJ's take. Just the execution. It seemed he felt the need to ALWAYS give his take, so you'd have a lot of worthless takes like: Don't know too much about _____. Could be good.

Kwik-E-Marts for Real? - Apr 01, 2007 - 10:29am
" The series declined a bit this season but the last few episodes have been top notch." I used to look forward to Prison Break, back when I thought the show actually had direction. But when the escape involved them using a wire that already led directly to the wall, the show stretched the bounds of credulity. But the plausibility of events on the show has gotten even worse. "let's have all the cast randomly meet in panama!" I was also MUCH more interested in this show when the creators said they had a two-season story to tell, and that would be it. The show is nor dead to me after they announced a third season.

"Civil War: The Confession" - Mar 25, 2007 - 08:55pm
Lister, I do agree that Tony has appeared to undergo some personality changes lately, but I see them as relatively natural in response to external pressures. As he said in this issue, he felt that he HAD to step up, because if not him, then who else? He did not want to turn his back on friends, but he felt it was necessary for the greater good. And when I said that I thought his breakdown was believable, I was speaking from personal experience. When you lose someone close to you, you breakdown. And when you do lose someone, rationality goes out the window. Apparently even with Extremis.

"Lost: The Man From Tallahassee" - Mar 24, 2007 - 09:40pm
I also called the two big "surprises" before they happened. But I was still surprised by the shocking brutality of Locke's injury. This show has been awesome since coming back from hiatus (the first part of this season was shaky). This episode and Desmond's have been among the best the show has to offer. Personally, I still think "walkabout" from season 1 is the best. nrollins: nice call with the sawyer/locke's dad connection. That hadn't occurred to me but makes perfect sense.

"Civil War: The Confession" - Mar 24, 2007 - 09:30pm
I also got to agree with Kurt on this one. This issue was probably the best thing to come out of Civil War so far. Stark comes off as human... finally... and we understand why he was able to turn his back on his friends for what he thought was the greater good. When confronted with the death of his partner and friend of countless years, the reality of his betrayal hits him hard. I see his breakdown as completely in character and believable. The structure of the story was fantastic too... first we see Tony's grief as he confesses he made a mistake over Steve Roger's body. Then we are witness to their final conversation. Tony is a complete ass as victor; Rogers is self-righteous and brutally honest. As anyone who has lost someone they loved knows, the worst part may be the words you can never take back, the wrongs you can never make right. Tony's guilt is eating him alive... and Bendis made him a sympathetic character again, and not just a quasi-supervillain. Other than Ultimate Spider-Man, I've never really liked Bendis' mainstream stuff very much. But I think he's been knocking them out of the park with his post-CW stuff.

"Smallville: Combat" - Mar 24, 2007 - 09:02pm
I hate it when shows add in wrestling stars as a stunt to attract new viewers. They can't act people!

"The Lookout" - Mar 24, 2007 - 09:00pm
I'm looking forward to this now. Dead Again and Out of Sight are both very underrated movies.

"Doctor Who" gets Fourth Season - Mar 24, 2007 - 08:57pm
Is Sci-Fi going to air Torchwood at some point? I'm dying to see that show.

Final "Spider-Man 3" Trailer Online - Mar 24, 2007 - 08:53pm
Venom looks awesome. Raimi has never disappointed. Not sure why people aren't giving him the benefit of the doubt. There's not another movie his summer I am anticipating more than this one...

Jonah Nolan to write Spielberg's "Interstellar" - Mar 24, 2007 - 08:47pm
I do have to say that my interest for this has skyrocketed with Nolan writing the screenplay.

Jon Favereau talks "Iron Man" - Mar 22, 2007 - 09:04am
I'd actually like to hear what Favereau thinks of the recent developments in Stark's life in the MU, and how it affects perceptions of the movie and his direction.

Tom Cruise joins Bryan Singer's WWII thriller - Mar 21, 2007 - 05:03pm
Who knows... maybe Cruise really will try and jumpstart his image by starring in an ensemble piece like he did in Magnolia.

Richard Dean Anderson signs on for "Stargate: Continuum" - Mar 21, 2007 - 05:00pm
The only new Stargate movie I would be interested in would star Kurt Russell and James Spader. SG-1 and Atlantis are terrible. That ought to rile someone up.

New Line acquires rights to "Gears of War" - Mar 21, 2007 - 04:54pm
Merin: we agree on a lot of things, but X3 is not one of them. While is was inferior to Singer's X-films, it's still WAY better than a lot of other superhero movies (FF, ghost rider, catwoman, etc.). As for Gears of War... great game, but not much of a story there. And there really aren't any good characters to speak of. I don't see this making a good movie at all. I did like Collateral though... maybe I'll be surprised.

Emile Hirsch joins "Speed Racer" - Mar 21, 2007 - 04:49pm
Whiskeymovie: want a good car chase scene? Check out the Corruptor. And I'd list the Bourne Supremecy as having one of the worst car chase scenes. Greengrass sure does love to shake a camera around.

Tom Cruise joins Bryan Singer's WWII thriller - Mar 21, 2007 - 04:27pm
I think Tom Cruise is passable as an actor, but has an incredibly strong screen presence. He's also been on an roll recently, with amazing films like WOTW, Collateral, TLS, Vanilla Sky, and the supremely underrated Minority Report. He's a whackjob in real life though, and should not be allowed near a microphone unless it's a boom mike. Mad: Interview with a Vamp was a disaster, and Tom's performance was the lowest common denominator.

Spock has a love interest in "Star Trek"? - Mar 21, 2007 - 04:19pm
Argh... I had the perfect Star Trek/Smurfs show comparison, but COLLECTOR shot me down before I got started. Ed Norton as Dreamy Smurf? Anyone?

"Superman Returns" sequel on schedule - Mar 19, 2007 - 10:47pm
Am I the only person who is WAY more excited about Singer's WWII movie than a sequel to Superman Returns? Don't get me wrong, I actually loved SR (and I completely agree with Merin's analysis). But I couldn't be more excited about Singer directing a Christopher McQuarrie script again.

"Buffy" comic gets second printing - Mar 19, 2007 - 06:28pm
Can you link the review? I'm not sure why, but I can't find it.

Warner Bros adapting "Sherlock Holmes" - Mar 19, 2007 - 06:25pm
Nice call on Zero Effect. I haven't thought about that movie in ages. One of the few films I can stand Bill Pullman in.

Warner Bros adapting "Sherlock Holmes" - Mar 18, 2007 - 10:19am
almostunbiased: why would you hate to say that? YSH was a great movie.

Controversial South Korean comic pulled - Mar 18, 2007 - 10:16am
Good lord... does anybody actually read michaelxaviermaelstrom's rants?

"Buffy" comic gets second printing - Mar 17, 2007 - 10:46am
I actually thought the art, aside from a few noteworthy pages (i.e. the Dawn two-pager) was mediocre at best. Most of the time, the characters looked little like their real-life counter-parts, and were not very consistent from panel-to-panel. Other than that minor complaint, the issue was a fantastic read. This first issue also has to have the most enjoyable retcons ever... one that makes an already enjoyable episode from season five of Angel reach new levels of hilarity. Best single issue I have read in recent memory.

"Civil War: The Initiative" - Mar 17, 2007 - 10:40am
Personally, I thought Silvestri's art was fantastic. I wish he was able to draw more books than he does. Hunter-Killer hasn't been the same since he stopped drawing it. Of course, it's also been mysteriously shipping on schedule. Go figure.

Comicscape Double Feature: Captain America and 300 - Mar 14, 2007 - 08:16pm
My main problem with Panther and Storm is that is that it was both too convenient (hey, they are both from Africa! Why don't we hook them up!) and came out of left field. They acted like these two had a long standing connection, but to my knowledge, this was forced. I can't believe how differently we read these comics. I see the writing in Black Panther (particularly the dialogue) as inane tripe. I know Marvel banished thought balloons ages ago, but I thought Bendis deftly used them to help recapture some of the fun lister misses in the MU. And don't categorize me as a Bendis-lover. I thought the past few years of Avengers comics have been shaky at best. But the (new) New Avengers and the Mighty Avengers have me cautiously excited about the direction of the MU.

Comicscape Double Feature: Captain America and 300 - Mar 14, 2007 - 04:15pm
The only way that black panther and storm are well suited for each other is their skin color. black panther has taken one of the MU's strong female characters out of the X-books where she belongs and turned her into a subservient housewife. and the writing is just terrible. hudlin has no clue how to write authentic-sounding dialog. it's a shame, too, as both storm and panther have potential. maybe that potential will be realized by mcduffie in FF. the conversation between ms marvel and spider-woman was in civil war: the initiative. quesada has since said that what ms marvel said was not true. now i don't know whether carol was lying or misinformed. as for mighty avengers, i loved the banter between stark and ms marvel. it conveyed a sense of familiarity and also revealed a tension between them as a result of CW. and how can an issue that features frank cho drawing mole men monsters, wasp, ms marvel, and the black widow NOT be fun?

Comicscape Double Feature: Captain America and 300 - Mar 14, 2007 - 03:42pm
nax37: good one. i'll be laughing about that for a while. lister: did you not read above that ms. marvel's report on rogers was a lie? and i have to completely disagree with you about the mighty avengers. that issue was as much fun as BKV at his very best. and please, let's not use the words "black panther" and "good" in the same sentence. unless the sentence also includes the words "not very" or "for wiping my ass."

Captain America, dead. - Mar 08, 2007 - 08:44pm
I'm not sure why no one is paying attention to cornfedredbone's comment... "Civil War: The Initiative" indicates that Steve Rogers is not dead, but wounded. The media report claiming Captain America was DOA was intended to protect him from future attacks. At least that is what Ms. Marvel tells Jessica Drew. EDIT: I just read a report where Quesada claims that all is not what it seems in The Initiative, and that Cap is really dead.

Captain America, dead. - Mar 08, 2007 - 12:31pm
Seriously... you want to see how a comic news site can cover Captain America's death and not spoil it in the *&#$ headline? Check out newsarama. As you can see, I'm still upset.

Captain America, dead. - Mar 08, 2007 - 10:08am
I know that a variety of news outlets reported this story before most people had a chance to read the issue. I understand, because this is quickly turning into a pretty big story. I am really disappointed with Mania, though... I had heard there were news stories about who the "fallen son" was, so I was actually avoiding the news so as not to spoil the story. I figured the people who ran this website would be decent enough not to spoil the outcome for all the comic readers who regularly visit this site. Guess not. Would it REALLY have been too much to ask that instead of the headline "Captain America Dead" you ran one that said "Captain America #25. SPOILERS." Still was a good read, even if I did know what was going to happen. And I don't think they can say this was staged (by someone like Nick Fury), as the Red Skull was behind the whole thing.

Civil War and the Road Ahead - Mar 02, 2007 - 05:14pm
Toning down the joke section is the last thing this column needs. If you want a list of new comics this week, and that is it, there are plenty of other sites for that.

Handmade Films making "Planet One" - Mar 01, 2007 - 03:10pm
I really do recommend watching Hoodwinked, if only for this scene: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4828422972731350613

"Live Free or Die hard" Poster - Mar 01, 2007 - 01:08pm
KJSucks, with all due respect, and remember I'm sayin' it with all due respect, your posts ain't worth a velvet painting of a whale and a dolphin gettin' it on.

Handmade Films making "Planet One" - Mar 01, 2007 - 01:06pm
Am I the only person who like Hoodwinked? I didn't think it was one the level of the Pixar movies, or anything, but I thought it had a few laugh out loud moments.

Top Ten Xbox Games - Feb 27, 2007 - 12:39pm
After giving this some thought, I'd definitely have to put Beyond Good & Evil, The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay (highly underrated game), and (as Merin suggested) Buffy on that list (in that order). Probably at the expense of Forza, Mercinaries, and Doom 3 (in that order).

Top Ten Xbox Games - Feb 27, 2007 - 08:35am
No love for "Beyond Good and Evil?"

WB plans "Justice League" - Feb 24, 2007 - 05:15pm
I'm really not sure why everyone is so down on a team superhero movie. The first 2 X-Men movies are evidence enough that team movies can work. Heck, even movies and like Ocean's Eleven and LOTR show you can successfully balance a large number of characters in one film. And given that there would already be recent Batman and Superman movies, Warner wouldn't feel the need to focus most of the attention on the heavy hitters (something the X-Men franchise has been criticized for with Wolverine).

"Ghost Rider" makes $15.9m opening day! - Feb 18, 2007 - 09:27am
Consider me enlightened. Thanks for the info.

"Ghost Rider" makes $15.9m opening day! - Feb 18, 2007 - 08:56am
jamesdalton... can you back that sliding scale statement up? I have always heard the same thing mopeymatt said. That theaters hope to recoup the cost of the reels through ticket sales, and make the vast majority of their money through concessions. And my (albeit limited) google search found nothing to back you up. Every time you read about box office earnings, the critical factor is ALWAYS whether the receipts exceed the budget, thus making the movie profitable. And don't you think that when the story is about how much the movie has grossed for the studio, they would have already subtracted the theaters' percentage of profits?

"Lost: Flashes Before Your Eyes" - Feb 17, 2007 - 10:37am
Speaking of questions about space and time, check out what happens when you view last week's brain-washing scene backwards: http://youtube.com/watch?v=Z7swZaOWO3c

Kevin Smith to direct "Reaper" Pilot - Feb 17, 2007 - 10:14am
I enjoyed this show this first time I saw saw it, when it was called "Dead Like Me."

Famke Janssen joins "100 Feet" - Feb 17, 2007 - 10:07am
Famke and Jamie Lee are different people.

Zack Snyder updates "Watchmen" - Feb 12, 2007 - 04:56pm
Oops... that quote came from a different site, but the same interview: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/news/comments/?entryid=400511

Zack Snyder updates "Watchmen" - Feb 12, 2007 - 02:38pm
Honestly, I don't believe that WAS sarcasm, as he went on to explain that he didn't have the budget to shoot in Antarctica.

Zack Snyder updates "Watchmen" - Feb 12, 2007 - 02:03pm
I'm not too sure about Zack Snyder after I read this in the linked interview: "The idea with 'Watchmen' is not to do a CG movie, but to do it when it's necessary. When Dr. Manhattan goes to Mars, there's an issue there. We've got to figure that out. We can't go to Mars. I know there's a lot of people who are going to be disappointed by that but I just don't have the money." Um... how dumb is he if he thinks people are going to be disappointed that he isn't filming on Mars? Were the makers of Watchmen going man the the first human expedition to Mars? One small step for man, one giant leap for Zack Snyder? Seriously, this is the guy we want adapting one of the most intelligent graphic novels out there?

Shyamalan and "The Green Effect" Update - Feb 01, 2007 - 01:37pm
I think most people did not get what they were expecting out of Lady in the Water. And a good deal of that disappointment probably arises from the way the movie was advertized. It was a modern, adult fairy tale... not a supernatural thriller. In that sense, people did not "get" the movie.

Shyamalan and "The Green Effect" Update - Feb 01, 2007 - 12:08pm
Would you all be excited if Chris Nolan was asked to rewrite TDK because of some idiot producer? Were you all excited when Raimi reportedly had to do reshoots for Spider-Man 3 because of test audience reactions? M Night has a pretty unique vision and style... I hate to think this will be compromised because some people didn't get Lady in the Water.

Russell Crowe and Universal to make "Nottingham" - Feb 01, 2007 - 11:56am
This sounds like a great concept (even if it has been done before: Wicked, Mists of Avalvon, etc.)

Dino de Laurentiis wans more Hannibal? - Feb 01, 2007 - 11:52am
Enough already. Silence and Red Dragon were both excellent (let's just pretend Hannibal never happened). But do we really need more Lecter movies? Especially ones that don't have Hopkins in them? Hannibal Rising = Dumb and Dumberer.

HBO Acquires "A Song of Ice and Fire" - Jan 28, 2007 - 11:51am
Peter Dinklage is a great actor, but he's not really the right body type for Tyrion. In my mind, Devito has cloe to the perfect body type for the role, but laks the acting chops. I think they should consider the LOTR route and use camera tricks and digital shrinkage to get Tyrion's size right.

Harvey Keitel joins "The Ministers" - Jan 26, 2007 - 01:16am
wow. that last post makes my brain hurt. looks like i picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.
