Star Wars Director Update

Producer Frank Marshall speaks

By Robert T. Trate     November 13, 2012
Source: MTV News

MTV News caught up with producer Frank Marshall, who is married to Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, about what directors are in contention for the big chair. The interview also consisted of news on the next Indiana Jones installment. Sadly, that projected has been put behind the next Star Wars film. Fans of the Bourne franchise will also want to check out the interview too.

This doesn’t count Matthew Vaughn out in any capacity. Which is our first choice here at Mania. Chime in Maniacs, who do you want to see directing Episode VII

I think if they did a movie about the Star Wars underworld that Joss Whedon - because of Firefly - would be an awesome choice but with the Avengers I doubt he'll take such a monumental project like this. Another good one for an underworld story would be Nolan.

As for the regular universe I have no clue but might think of something later.

 Indy will be rebooted.

What was the Star Wars update?

I'd still go Brad Bird over Vaughn. Vaugh has two goog movies and one ok movie under his belt, while Bird has nothing but aces, and understands the scope and epic feel SW needs.

Second the notion for Brad Bird.  He was the first guy I thought of to direct Episode VII, especially since he's done a couple Pixar movies for Disney.

The other name that I bet Disney would look to is Gore Verbinski, since he had directed the first three Pirates of the Caribbean movies for the studio and made a sickening amount of money.

Brad Bird has directed exactly one movie that wasn't animated or written by him.

I think Vaughn would be great, but I'd really like to see someone like Alphonso Cuaron or Duncan Jones take a stab at it. Here's my list of who I think would be great:

1. Alphonso Cuaron

2. Joss Whedon

3. Duncan Jones

4. Matthew Vaughn

5. Steven Spielberg

Reboot Indiana Jones? When did they say that? I heard nothing about that. It would be a terrible development.

As for Star Wars I heard nothing significant at all. So this is non-news. I still say Brad Bird.

@MrJawbreakingEquilibrium - The supposed live action TV Star Wars show is going to be the one that is centered on the underworld of the galaxy.

Oh and Whedon is going to be busy with all things Avengers related as he is now making the SHEILD TV show and the nest movie. So he is out for sure unless he bails on the Avengers, which I doubt will happen.

I also really really doubt that the new Star Wars movies will not center around the next gen of Skywalkers.

The guy said Indy is in the back burner behind Star Wars.  What else you think is going to happen to that property?

axia777 11/13/2012 2:36:24 PM

I have no idea, but re-booting would be a dumb ass idea. I say have one more go round with Indy and have him die at the end. Indy as an explorer would never just 'stop' being what he is. I have always envisioned Indy dying alone in the middle of nowhere killed by some random trap or natives. Indy would not die old in his bed but in the field like a bad ass.
