Nolan's Call on a Third BATMAN - Aug 28, 2008 - 03:16pm
I'm with joey on this. Makes a good point. Nolan needs to start introducing more fantasy elements to the franchise. He has kept it real so far and introducing "some" elemnts like the Lazarus Pit, showing Batman amazed by shit he never thought could exist, maybe even having a passing mention of a flying man. Stuff to open it up for the rest of the DC universe.
I think the fantasy part can work even better when you established a "real world" because that still helps ground the fantasy element to a degree. Then again I'm just saying what I want, but if the idea is to use Bale for future DC projects why not hint at it.
Fey and Downey Jr. Voicing Stiller's MASTERMIND - Aug 28, 2008 - 02:58pm
This sounds pretty good. Love Stiller, RDJ and the deceivingly hot Fey.
monkeyfoot, you're right about that but so far RDJ seems to be choosing quality projects as opposed to SLJ, who says yes to any crap they offer him. SLJ has the exact opposite of artistic integrity or should I say that he just doesn't have any. Hey, money is money afterall, not hating on him just saying what's fact.
DVD and Blu-Ray Details for INCREDIBLE HULK - Aug 28, 2008 - 02:50pm
I'm with joey, I want a damn extended cut ala the LOTR films. Bit Lou did say that he wouldn't make an extended cut and that he stood by his final one. Of course the studio can probably do this on their own and I expect they will in a year or two.And that scene with him going to the Arctic he supposedly fights a killer whale, at least that was one of the rumors. Either way I'm buying it and all its green goodness and yeah I'll buy the extended cut as well. I have no shame.
And yeah, showing deleted scenes in trailers and commercials has become a pretty normal thing. Tropic Thunder is the latest culprit, I remember King Kong doing it and a few others. I think this practice should be outlawed. It's like false advertisement IMO.
Disney Releasing WALL E on DVD and Blu-Ray Nov. 18 - Aug 28, 2008 - 02:38pm
I thought Wall-E was ok but it wasn't nearly as good as I'd hoped. I don't know if I can see myself watching this movie more than once more, hence I may skip the dvd.
Rogue Moving Forward with STRANGERS Sequel - Aug 28, 2008 - 02:34pm
I enjoyed it, it wasn't great nor as scary as I though it could've been but I'm down for a sequel. Though, I can see a sequel losing the suspense and going the way of Friday the 13, a hack/slash action film.
New Set Videos Online for TRANSFORMERS 2 - Aug 28, 2008 - 02:30pm
It looks pretty good and let me say that I've rubbed my crotch all over one of her cousins. Yeah that's right, I used to ride a Buell, but that bitch stayed on the rag, always leaking oil so I had to kick her to the curb..
Alex Proyas Updates on Adapting Dracula's YEAR ZERO - Aug 28, 2008 - 02:27pm
OK, I'm starting to get sick and tired of this "realistic take" thing of late. I want my fictional characters to be fictional, I want the fantasy and everything that comes with it. I know TDK was a huge success but please, STOP IT!
Alex Proyas Updates on Adapting Dracula's YEAR ZERO - Aug 28, 2008 - 02:23pm
Fox is making a lot of enemies. It's starting to sound like NewLine except this time isn't money it's creative control.
hanso, I thought the rumor was Miller was been attached to Green Lantern. Though I wouldn't mind Proyas doing it.
fft, one report I read mentioned GL, WW, and Flash as being at different stages of development. For some reason it didn't list Capt.Marvel, I know that one supposedly had a script already or SuperMax.
Comicscape: Warner Bros. Takes DC to the Movies - Aug 27, 2008 - 08:48am
JVtrain, you're right about that. Superman specifically wasn't this powerful when he was created. Hell, he couldn't even fly. His strength was awesome but he wasn't moving planets. He lifted cars and stopped trains. As more heroes came on the scene they just kept piling on powers and strength on Superman. Hence the boring character we have today. Don't get me wrong, we still get some great stories from him but they are rare.
People get bent out of shape when they say dark and Superman in the same sentence. Well, like hanso and some others have said, dark doesn't necessarily mean TDK dark. The quote above says "to the extent that the character allows". So chill. I think this has a good chance of being a winner. Now let's see how they go about reaching their goal.
Lastly, ditto what Nightwing83 said on both posts.
Nolan's Call on a Third BATMAN - Aug 27, 2008 - 08:28am
lol, monkeyfootWhat a disturbing image that is. Winehouse can be one of the hyenas the Joker has in The Batman cartoon.Kate Beckingsale would be perfect if she wasn't such a prima donna.
joey, welcome back. I swear I was just about to ask where the hell you were.
More Info on the Fox vs. WB WATCHMEN Suit - Aug 27, 2008 - 07:58am
DarkXid, I hope it isn't delayed but one report from last week was quoting someone from Fox where they hinted that sometimes money can't repair damages done by violating other's rights. Pretty much saying in a round about way that they may try to stop the release altogether. I hope that was just a bluff to get WB to pony up some money, a lot lot of money.
Spielberg Still in Charge of First TINTIN - Aug 27, 2008 - 07:52am
I hope Cameron goes off and gets to work on Battle Angel after he's done with Avatar. Forget TinTin. Battle Angel is one of the very few animes that I actually like.
I thought the third was going to be one of them and not another director. Thought I read that somewhere. Either way I'm down for either. Can't wait to see a trailer for the first.
Nolan's Call on a Third BATMAN - Aug 27, 2008 - 07:45am
But Nolan killed off TwoFace so obviously he didn't have him in mind for part 3. And Joker's line about him and Batman going at it forever leads me to believe that he did have him in mind for the next one. I don't think he was thinking beyond part 3 when he gave him that line.
No way he'd insult the Joker with a cameo ala Scarecrow. That's an outright insult. But that's just me :)
I really think they have the Riddler in mind for the next one, only because Oldman said it. I think it was something he let slip out unintentionally. And maybe they'll add Catwoman to keep the tradition of 2 villains.
Nolan's Call on a Third BATMAN - Aug 27, 2008 - 06:56am
Nolan may have had a trilogy planned from the beginning but Ledger's death through a wrench at that plan. Since we can assume the Joker was going to be heavily involved and Nolan has said that he won't recast the role. So now they have to go back to the drawing board and come up with a new story. I know they're capable but is he willing is the question. I think he will once he recharges his battery.
And pretty please, no Cher as Catwoman. I know she looks decent for her age but she can't do sexy in my eyes.
More Info on the Fox vs. WB WATCHMEN Suit - Aug 27, 2008 - 06:48am
Watchmen may be my most anticipated film of 09 along with Avatar, Terminator and Wolverine. So I'll definitely be upset if the lawsuit gets in the way of its release.
But after reading that article it smells a bit fishy to me. WB already had to count in Paramount for foreign distribution in what appears to be a settlement since Paramount may have held some rights also. Yet it appears that they may have purposely avoided Fox, either Gordon or WB. I understand they don't want to keep sharing the pie but it seems to me that Fox was due a piece of the action. I can't blame Fox for this. WB and L.Gordon should've done their due diligence, of course there's always the chance that they know something we don't.
Character Returns from Dead in LOST - Aug 26, 2008 - 06:57am
I'm going to do my NotAFan interpretationWhat the fuck, that's why this show is a piece of shit. All the contradictions, the revisions, the playing by the ear style of story telling sucks. All these fuckers need to be frired. This shit is a big waste of time. You can bet your ass off that when it wraps up half the shit won't make any sense and you'll have wasted precious time of your fucking life following this garbage. FUCK YOU ABC Bitches :)
Woody Harrelson Takes on The Undead in ZOMBIELAND - Aug 26, 2008 - 06:45am
I too like Woody but have to wonder about this. I hope it turns out good but feel that zombies are being dragged down to the ground lately.
Cast Set for Spoof AWESOMEST MAXIMUS - Aug 26, 2008 - 06:42am
I hope Disaster Movie bombs big time. I hate these films with no talent hacks and the latest whore with a sex video on the internet. Please do what pony says and blow all these fuckers up.
These films work best when done sparingly. Now they seem to come out once every couple of months. The jokes you can see coming a mile away and the effort put into these films just makes you wonder why.
Wilderness Strikes Back in THE MOUNTAIN - Aug 26, 2008 - 06:35am
Sounds like it could be fun. Is it mother nature or the wild animals responsible? Either way it could work.
Director Mathieu Kassovitz Upset About BABYLON A.D - Aug 26, 2008 - 06:28am
Fox is making a lot of enemies lately and a lot of them are the fans.
They're messing this up, they screwed up the Fantastic Four, X-Men were questionable at best, Wolverine is up on the air but they were messing with that too.
Not to mention the suit for Watchmen. One piece said that they may be looking to prevent the film from being released altogether.
Maybe we should boycott everything Fox. Yeah, I know people won't do it. Too bad.
TRANSFORMERS Revisit Military Base - Aug 26, 2008 - 06:15am
Whiskey, I'm with you on Bay with the exception of Pearl Harbor.
Amish, you didn't manage to get any spy shots?
First Trailer for FAST AND FURIOUS Online - Aug 25, 2008 - 05:34pm
Jordana Brewster, mmmm mmm good.NotAFan, you just opened my eyes to MR. I never really thought about it, but now that you mention it, Yeah. I think you're right. She does come across like a lesbian, not that there's anything wrong with that. But she definitely comes across more believable playing a "guy role" (the tough kick ass part) than a feminine role. Always comes across as butch.
Vin Diesel: RIDDICK Sequels Still Possible - Aug 25, 2008 - 05:06pm
I'm all for more Riddick. I thought Chronicles was lacking a lot but the universe and Riddick's adventures I think have a lot of potential. A trip to the underverse might be cool. Just a lot of ways to go here. I hope they do the sequels. Hobbs, I don't think Babylon is going to do what they hope it would, at least if you go by the director's comments. I remember you said you read the book and may regret it for the let down in translation to film, you may have been right. Check it out if you wanthttp://blogs.amctv.com/scifi-scanner/2008/08/babylon-ad-mathieu-kassovitz.php
First Trailer for FAST AND FURIOUS Online - Aug 25, 2008 - 04:38pm
So does this mean that the crew opened up a gas station in the DR?
The trailer does what it's suppose to, get noticed. It looks pretty good if you ask me. I wasn't too big on the last 2 sequels maybe this one'll be better, it looks it.
Weekly Book Buzz: An Open Letter to the Mania Readership - Aug 25, 2008 - 02:34pm
Pat good luck to you. At least you were doing something that apparently you enjoyed nas well. It is too bad that film and tv have made so many of us too lazy to read a good book.
WB Decides to Reboot Darker SUPERMAN - Aug 25, 2008 - 02:22pm
Brown kryptonite makes him shit uncontrollably. How much darker than that can it be. Plus they'll have to give him a new "darker" uniform to hide the stains.
Shia Taking a Beating in TRANSFORMERS 2 - Aug 25, 2008 - 02:04pm
NotAFan, keep doing what you do. I don't know if it's on purpose or not,if you truly feel it or not, but your comments always crack me up when I look at your avatar and picture it coming from him.I don't know if his abs are painted on or not but he looks like he's trying to tighten up. Give him some credit. And hanso, nothing gay about that :)
Kristen Bell Lends Voice in ASTRO BOY - Aug 25, 2008 - 09:01am
chirop, my bad. Didn't mean to insult your girl. I take back the "ass" part. And at least her body is pretty smokin.
Keaton and Benson Make Famous Couple in TOY STORY 3 - Aug 25, 2008 - 07:47am
Hooray for Woody!Last word was that it was going to be 3D. Most studios seem to be pushing the format. As long as they take care of the story first (it's Pixar, so I know they will) and worry about things looking like they're coming at you last we'll be fine.
Love that 3D stuff myself.
Latest Trailer for TRANSPORTER 3 - Aug 25, 2008 - 07:42am
I'm with you Whiskey. Statham always delivers the "mindless action". I see that he seems to have eliminated most of his rules from part 1 and now just has 1 condition. That's good since he himself couldn't adhere to his own rules.
Kristen Bell Lends Voice in ASTRO BOY - Aug 25, 2008 - 07:34am
This is perfect for Bell. This ugly ass crosseyed ho doesn't belong in front of a camera. Stick to voice overs or radio, pretty please with sugar on top.
Shia Taking a Beating in TRANSFORMERS 2 - Aug 25, 2008 - 07:16am
See, that's what makes Bay a genius. Instead of delaying the film he's incorporating the aftermath of the accident into it. If you ask me he should've went to the hospital and added a scene there also. Michael Bay=GENIUSDazzler, what's up with all that hate? Don't you worry about karma?
Box Office Update: THUNDER Strikes Twice at B.O. - Aug 24, 2008 - 08:43pm
almost, they pretty much admitted to that in a round about way, plus we all here knew as much anyway. I don't have a problem with it either way. Like they said in their second statement, the extra time you wait now is subtracted from the time you'll have to wait for the next film. So when you take all the waiting time together nothing's changed. More for this one less for the next one.Fans don't really care much about this stuff (they should) but these companies are publicly traded commodities and they have to manage the bottom line for their fiscal year to satisfy their stock holders.
evil, come on now. Waterworld is the Road Warrior of the sea. You're too harsh on my boy KC
Box Office Update: THUNDER Strikes Twice at B.O. - Aug 24, 2008 - 06:59pm
I don't know why he'd want to live on a piece of rock like that in the first place. There's no way to make that place look good. And any little earthquake was going to topple it anyway.HB shows boobs? I thought that was pg13.Oh yeah, the detectives, the nazis and the italians are all white :)
Box Office Update: THUNDER Strikes Twice at B.O. - Aug 24, 2008 - 06:27pm
Glad to see TT repeat, best comedy of the year, ahead of Step Brothers.Saw Death Race, it was ok. The kind of stuff you expect from Statham, fun and action filled but really not much more. Also caught TDK for the 4th time yesterday, still not buying it. But obviously still enjoy it otherwise I would've caught House Bunny.Today I've been watching TNT and LOTR trilogy most of the day. Best trilogy ever, bar none. And really looking forward to The Hobbit films.
Box Office Update: THUNDER Strikes Twice at B.O. - Aug 24, 2008 - 06:15pm
Beverly Hills Chihuahua is going to own the rest of the year, SON!hanso, TDK 6 weeks out, HB 1st weekend out. That's how it beat it. TDK'll probably top it next week.I think there are plenty of possibly decent films coming out, just no big budget films outside of QoS and The Day the Earth Sood Still.Bagkok Danderous, Max Payne, Punisher, Valkyrie, Spirit, Bolt, Benjamin Button, Transporter, Miracle at St Anna, City of Ember and RockNRolla. Oh and what I'm predicting to be the biggest let down in relation to hype, Twilight.I see Jarrod wasn't around to write the b.o. report, that's probably why it's so abbreviated. Even J deserves a day off or two. Hope all is well.
DEATH RACE - Aug 23, 2008 - 01:57pm
akobus, don't let these guys get to you and hanso is a good guy. That's a running joke here about "know how I know you're gay", not to be offended by. And we have a prominent member on this site that is gay and who knows how many others, that's their choice and doesn't preclude them from participating. Like Seinfeld said, there's nothing wrong with that. Of course every now and then someone gets out of line, just fire back or ignore it. Saw the film, it was a decent B movie that deserves a B. Pretty much the kind of stuff we're used to getting from Statham. Fun and action filled but not much more.
WB Decides to Reboot Darker SUPERMAN - Aug 23, 2008 - 01:42pm
I said it in a prior post and scy sort of echoed my sentiment, by dark I don't think it means TDK dark. Even the quote above says, ("We're going to try to go dark to the extent that the characters allow it," he says. That goes for the company's Superman franchise as well.)"To the extent that the character allows", you can bet we're not going to have a SuperBatman film. And if they didn't fuck it up with SR this wouldn't need to happen. Now I will concede that if Singer's plan was to kill off the kid, have Supes go through some real trauma and doubts about himself that may work. But Lex's character is still a mess and I'd like to see Pa Kent alive the way he is in the books now after they rebooted Superman a while back.
WB Decides to Reboot Darker SUPERMAN - Aug 22, 2008 - 01:37pm
hanso, The problem with Supermax is that it's jumping the gun. If you're doing origin flicks before JLA then Supermax should be way down the line. Once our heroes had the chance to incarcerate all these super villains.I think some guys are getting the idea that by "dark" it is somehow going to be like TDK. I think it's meant to be "darker" than what we're used to for said character and exploring any dark impulses or insecurities that may lead one to the wrong path. It doesn't have to be TDK dark to achieve that goal.
WB Decides to Reboot Darker SUPERMAN - Aug 22, 2008 - 01:17pm
See J, the guys at WB were checking out Mania and saw that most of us were clamoring for a reboot. Sorry, I know you liked SR but good sense prevails yet again :)I think I've made my opinions about SR pretty clear since I saw it. So I'm happy to hear this. Don't just explore Superman's dark side fix all his supporting characters, especially Lex. Give us a Brainiac or Bizarro story. These characters I think could best help explore any dark impulses he may have.
Jon Favreau Flies Ahead into IRON MAN 2 - Aug 22, 2008 - 12:53pm
The latest Mandarin incarnation has the rings fused to his spine. I could work with the stones on the rings somehow fusing with his body. That way he doesn't have to wear any bling bling. I trust Favreau to do it right when the time comes but I hope he isn't running away from the fantasy aspects ala Nolan.
The one problem IronMan has is that outside of the Mandarin most of his rogues aren't well known. I don't know if that's bad or good. At least it may give the writers the freedom to embelish them a bit for the screen.
If you used Ezekiel Stane then it looks like you're following in Spidey's footsteps, if you use another ironed villain (like Crimson Dynamo, Firepower or Titanium Man) then it looks like a retread and the Robocop/Transformer comparisons get bigger.
evilbeagle, yes, the rings are from alien technology more superior to ours. Mandarin is a genius so he was able to manipulate them and use the science behind them.
Bond's SOLACE Moves Back a Week - Aug 22, 2008 - 12:18pm
I'm all for this new Bond. As a kid I loved the older flicks but as time went on the gadgets just kept getting more and more ridiculous. It pretty much got to the point where a Bond film was just as much fantasy or sci/fi as action. And this isn't the first time the Brits get first dibs so I don't think anyone here will get spoiled unless you go out looking for spoilers or if pony decides to fuck it up for us, but he wouldn't do that, would he?
Nic Cage Joins Vaughn's KICK ASS - Aug 22, 2008 - 12:09pm
I know it isn't Jarrod's fault but these plot concepts the studio keeps putting out are slowly giving away the comic before it's done. I'm glad issue 4 drops next week and hopefully Millar will have the series completely out before the damn movie opens.
Nick Cage wouldn't work in Hollywood again if it were up to me.
What happened with the DeNiro rumor?
Jon Favreau Flies Ahead into IRON MAN 2 - Aug 22, 2008 - 12:04pm
I could swear I read somewhere that Tahir was signed for 3 films. So IF that's true then it means that the Mandarin won't be the top villain but I'd assume that he'd play a part and show him growing into that role and becoming more powerful in part 2 and ready to rock n roll for part three or the Avengers film.
Top Maniacal Rumors: Soft Punisher, Hard Chucky and Sharky Sequels - Aug 22, 2008 - 11:53am
The Punisher rumor now makes sense. Because Lexiu had hinted at the speak no evil, see no evil adage. So maybe the studio felt she was letting out too much. Really, really looking forward to the Punisher. That's my top film for the rest of this year.
Singer/WB/Superman = a fucking mess. I say reboot but if not make up your minds already and pick a direction.
Wolverine has me a bit worried with news like this. But word from Comicon was that the film was going to be real kick ass and I guess the clips they showed were extremely well done. Crossing my fingers.
So the people at Fox are trying to ruin my two most anticipated of 09, one on purpose and the other inadvertently, Watcmen and Wolverine respectively.
Jon Favreau Flies Ahead into IRON MAN 2 - Aug 21, 2008 - 05:33pm
I never had any doubts that Favreau would be back. I'm happy as hell that they're under way already. I'm assuming that Favreau has been signed to a new deal, I know there was a lot of speculation out there but don't remember it been official.
Comicscape: Robert Kirkman Calls You Out - Aug 21, 2008 - 03:13pm
It just rubbed me the wrong way the way he seems to want to pull all the big guys to Image with him. It seems self serving. I have no problem with anyone staking out their destiny and trying to branch out on their own. Hell our own Kurt is doing it with Dead Souls.
But let's be honest most of these guys if they go solo aren't going to make enough money to retire on, hope you're amongt the exception Kurt. There are a lot of published writers with books just sitting in shelves. Not many are going to hit it big with a Hellboy or something like it.
A better way to go IMHO is like Bendis and Millar for example. They both work or have worked for Marvel, made their mark and without cutting ties they still put out their own stuff. Bendis has Powers and Millar's always putting something out like Wanted, Kick Ass and the new one about soldiers.
The Manic Maniac: Superman vs. Everybody - Aug 21, 2008 - 08:46am
My problem with Superman in comics is that they made him too pwerful and just kept on making him more invincible as time went on. He can move planets, he runs as fast as the Flash, now he's even a genius himself and working to come up with cures for diseases and all in his Fortress. It is just too much, he wasn't like this at first, hell I don't think he was even able to fly at first. So for him to have an interesting adversary they have to be a genius or riduculously powerful. And yet I almost always say in a disinterested manner "meh".
The main problem in the movies is that they haven't introduced a worthy adversary with the exception of Superman 2. Then they went against canon by letting him have a kid. Krypton dna just isn't compatible with human dna hence no kid is possible, powers or not. And they made Lex into a buffoon interested in land only and not the evil genius he is.
Fix these problems and we can have a good or great Superman movie.
DEATH RACE - Aug 21, 2008 - 08:20am
I'll defintely be checking this out tomorrow.akobus, you're right, especially this year. Usually there is still some big budget films for Nov and Dec but it's slim pickings this year. KICK ASS Begins Production in Three Weeks - Aug 21, 2008 - 07:54am
Kick Ass needs to get its ass in gear. I want Millar to finish the book before the damn movie comes out. I love the first 3 issues, the 4th is coming next week and I'm really looking forward to it.NotaFan, you do sound like you haven't read any of it. Like Amish says this kid gets the shit beat out of him, gets run over, stabbed all good stuff. And even in his first succesful fight he still gets the shit kicked out of him.
I hope Vaughn stays faithful to the book as it appears he will. Don't cave in to pressure to soften it up, please.
Alex Proyas Adapting Heinlein's JONATHAN HOAG - Aug 20, 2008 - 09:14am
Sounds pretty cool. All I know about Knowing is that with Cage being the lead it already has one strike against it.
Writing Team Begins on THE HOBBIT Films - Aug 20, 2008 - 09:10am
I'm of the opinion that the film should begin after the end of RotK. Have Bilbo telling his tale to Frodo and some elves and flashback as the story begins to The Hobbitt. And definitely no Holm as Bilbo during the main tale.
Warner Bros. Responds to Upset POTTER Fandom - Aug 20, 2008 - 08:59am
Ditto what fft said except the been greedy part. The film will make make a ton of dough either way. It's just so the co.'s bottomline doesn't look as bad next year as it otherwise would.

Comicscape: Robert Kirkman Calls You Out - Aug 20, 2008 - 08:38am
Kurt,
enjoyed the first issue of Dead Souls a lot. The book was my introduction to E.Bathory. At the risk of sounding ignorant she is completely new to me. Of course I had to look her up on the net and all I can say is WOW. I'm amazed I didn't know about her. I'm really looking forward to see where this new venture Vlad is leading her on will end and what's the FBI's role in all of this. I hope you let us know when the next issue is ready for ordering. By the way the interview was a nice addition and will be looking forward to the next interview as well.
I have to say that I'm also enjoying Batman's RIP arc. But the story is really been told in the Batman and the Robin books, Detective and Nightwing books have barely any significance to the RIP story. But Detective's Hush storyline has me hooked as well. Batman continues to be DC's best written and most intriguing character.
Looking forward to the return of Barry Allen in Final Crisis. He's my favorite and the greatest Flash ever. And here I'm hoping that they take Wally's powers away so we can be done with him and his two brats.
Also Secret Invasion has been a treat. The main book, all three Avengers titles and Ms Marvel have been exceptionally good IMHO.
Comicscape: Robert Kirkman Calls You Out - Aug 20, 2008 - 07:54am
You know that's like saying nobody should work for any co. instead be a business owner. Guess what, it just isn't for everybody and the market just couldn't support it anyway. If someone wants to do their own thing I've no problem with it but the way this guy is going about it is like he wants to sabotage DC and Marvel. His idea about DC/Marvel targeting their books to teenagers and not adults is pompous. So only indies or creator/owned should target adults. That's bullshit. And I don't buy the argument that as we get older and maybe stop reading comics the industry is just going to die. Those teenagers his talking about will become adults and I'm sure some will pick up comic books and the adult stories they tell now a days. Trades are a great way for new people to jump in, movies and cartoons also open the doors for new readers. Who the hell says we have to get new readers when their kids, you can't be turned on to comics as a young adult or older even? I think you can.The fact is the industry has grown in dollars by a lot over the last decade. Sure trades have a lot to do with it. But that's a small price to pay to bring people on. Just STOP IT with all the "attract kids and teenagers to comics". They will come with time.Take all these writers and have them start their own books and I guaranty that most will fail. Some of us aren't that interested in new characters, we want to follow the guys we already love and want to see how they're doing and where they're heading.Making out DC/Marvel almost to be the bad guys just pisses me off. If not for them many writers would not be where they are today. And just because you were succesful with DC/Marvel doesn't in any way guaranty that you'll succed with your own creation. I don't follow F.Miller, A.Ross or N.Gaiman around. I don't care what they're writing. But when they do a stint with the big 2 I catch their work. Bottom line, to each their own. I don't think because you're going down one path everybody else should follow it just cause anybody says so.
WB and DC Executives Talk Comic Properties - Aug 19, 2008 - 05:25pm
Marvel having financial problems in the past has nothing to do with the quality of their books. They almost always outsell DC and have a bigger share of the market. Maybe whoever is in charge of their finances isn't too good at math. And no one is claiming any of this stuff is real. But Marvel puts their characters in situations resembling what goes on in the world more than DC. Be it political or personal relationships. Their characters are flawed and aren't simple minded boy scouts. Although DC has been trying to follow in Marvel's footsteps.Civil War is one of the best stories told thyis decade. And has a lot of parables to what has been going on in the US since 9-11.Sony, we know you're all about DC so I won't hold it against you but CW was great. Now I do find myself agreeing with you more and more on TDK. Oooh, a tag team, how cute. And you can't take this to school, I'm the Professor
SUPERMAN Flying Circles in Development Hell - Aug 19, 2008 - 04:44pm
hanso, I love the idea for the Doomsday storyline with the JLA appearing and starting the crossover with the DC universe. They could even do the Doomsday storyline in the JLA film since in the book he fucked up the entire JLA before Supes got in there and finished it.
Re booting is the only way to go to get Lex correct. He can't go from a land grabber to Lex Corp. founder and genius.
WB and DC Executives Talk Comic Properties - Aug 19, 2008 - 04:37pm
My bad, I was real big on Identity Crisis, sorry.
I agree with Action has been pretty good but still down on the Superman book.
GL and GLC are among my must reads.
Let's just hope they both keep putting good stuff out and in some cases better stuff.
WB and DC Executives Talk Comic Properties - Aug 19, 2008 - 02:45pm
gauley, I'm enjoying Final Crisis as well, but brilliant? They already have continuity problems with Orion, DC killed him off two times (major gaffe) and the way they did away with Martian Manhunter was so disrespectful for a major player in the DC universe to just be taken so easily and done away with. Though I am happy as hell that they're bringing back the greatest Flash ever, Barry Allen. I hate Wally, dislike Wally and what they have done with him and his kids. DC just keeps making missteps. Hopefully Barry Allen will save the Flash trademark. The Superman books haven't been that good for quite a while. Every now and then we get a good arc. The Brainiac storyline going on now is pretty good so far on Action but the Superman book is weak and again with a kid superman, that's like "jumping the shark"You want some good, terrific reading. Secret Invasion has been totally kick Ass.Look, I too like both brands but there's no argument as to which co. does the better overall job IMHO. Daredevil, Moon Knight, Ms Marvel, FF, both IronMan titles, Captain America, Thor, The Thunderbolts, both Punisher titles, all the Avengers titles along with S.I. all are great reads. I just can't understand how anyone can think that DC is churning out better stories. Even the sale numbers have Marvel on top on a regular basis. And of course no one is saying that any of these books are real. But which universe gives you the feeling of the real world and all its faults? Marvel of course. Star Trek and Star Wars are both fantasy but I think we can all agree that Star Trek comes off as more realistic.
Collins Suggests More TOS Surprises in TREK - Aug 19, 2008 - 02:12pm
I don't care for Shatner and/or if he makes an appearance. In fact I'd rather he didn't. He brings too much an element of goofyness that I'd rather they do without. Either way I doubt it'll make a huge difference if the movie is as good as some of the execs. over there seem to think it is. joey, like hanso said you're all over the spot today. Nothing to do? I've got some laundry I need taken care of.
Maybe they're bringing back G.Roddenberry to intro the film. You know, his voice.
Tyrese Gibson Edging Past Cube for A-TEAM? - Aug 19, 2008 - 02:03pm
I just saw an interview with Ice Cube while doing promo for The Longshots where he seemed to indicate that he was still up for the part. Funny
I'd rather see Gibson get it. I hate Ice Cube when he tries to come up as a tough guy. That shit hasn't worked for him since his NWA days. Let him stick to kiddie films with his bubbly baby fat ass.
SUPERMAN Flying Circles in Development Hell - Aug 19, 2008 - 01:57pm
Just like my man hanso I've never stopped voicing my displeasure with Singer's SR. The kid, Lex as the real estate aficionado, Bosworth as the irresponsible mother L.Lane, the retreaded storyline, etc, etc
Glad The WB apparently has taken notice of the fans' displeasure and acting accordingly.
Would Singer stick around if he had to do away with what he created? I doubt it.
Maybe they can use Routh for the JLA film if they plan on recasting the SM franchise. Or the hell with it just get rid of everybody so we don't have any reminders in the future and let's change the title to "What If" like Marvel and pretend it never really happened.
DVD Shopping Bag: Looking Ahead to The DVD Horizon - Aug 19, 2008 - 09:47am
Rob Zombie is a hack who only knows gore, violence, nudity and vulgar language. Which usually isn't a bad thing if you know how to construct a proper story and direct it. But he hasn't learned those aspect of the game yet.
I'll be sure to pick up this new version of Halloween. I love when they incorporate the scenes into the film ala LOTR. Makes it seem almost like a new film.
Fishburne Officially Joining C.S.I - Aug 19, 2008 - 09:39am
Don't really follow the show though every now and then I'll catch a rerun on Spike. But this seems like a step down for Fishburne. He's a great actor. But I guess a regular paycheck is better than waiting around for the next great part to fall into your lap.
Raimi and Cruise Team to Adapt SLEEPER - Aug 19, 2008 - 08:35am
If Tom Cruise takes the lead then I'm sure it'll be good and have some good action or a very interesting story. He doesn't "star" in anything that isn't quality in at least one aspect.
WB and DC Executives Talk Comic Properties - Aug 19, 2008 - 07:45am
DC has always seemed more fantasy based. Their characters lacked (past tense cause they've changed) that grit and realism that Marvel delivered with their flawed characters, personal relationships and similarities to whatever was going on in the world ala the nuclear age, racial issues and so on. Add geography to that and I think the majority of us view DC as more fantsy laden. DC obviously has been playing catch up and has done a decent job with it but Marvel still seems to have the more reality, gritty characters. And I'm not knocking DC by any means. I love alot of their characters. But when you take it as a whole I don't think there's any disputing which of the two universes comes across "more real".gauley, we all have different taste. What may be garbage to you may be gold to me. IMHO, DC pales in comparison to Marvel, BIG TIME. The only character that consistently has good stories is Batman. Marvel has many more intriguing, conflicted, and interesting titles than DC by a mile. And I read most of DC's major titles. I like JLA, JSA, TT but when you compare them in general to Marvel, it's a no contest. Now DC does put out some great stuff through their Vertigo line but I'm just talking DC and their Universe the way we know it. That doesn't include Watchmen which isn't a part of that Universe.
Let me add Green Lantern also. I'm just a huge fan of Hal. And it has been pretty great IMO through its entire run.
WATCHMEN Lawsuit Approved for Fox - Aug 19, 2008 - 07:35am
hanso, lol. Between you and joey I'm guaranteed at least one good laugh a day.
needaname, of course I noticed. Just the other day I was wondering if you were still on your honeymoon or if you were the victim of some foul play for the insurance money. Glad it wasn't the latter.
WATCHMEN Lawsuit Approved for Fox - Aug 19, 2008 - 02:42am
Give Fox credit for being smart. Apparently they let the license to make the film and held on to the rights to distribute. Obviously making the film is where the big gamble is while the distribution deal is practically risk free, unless the movie totally bombs.
If Fox wins the suit I don't think WB has anything to worry about. It's just like Marvel, they make the films and distribute through other companies. The problem may be if there are any other copyright violations, that would make it more complicated.
Box Office: TROPIC THUNDER Knocks Down the Batman - Aug 18, 2008 - 02:37pm
fft, lol
By the way I did say that we do care about foreign b.o. just that we don't talk about it when referring to records and such was my point.
Paul W.S. Anderson Out of SPY HUNTER - Aug 18, 2008 - 07:55am
Whiskey, I'm with you. I think Matrix Reloaded was the film to beat when it came to car scenes. Whenever that shit is on I tune it on just for that. Great fucking scene.
He may be tooting his own horn but I was already amped to see this and now more so. My only complaint has been that the races are in a controlled setting and there aren't any civilians to run over and score points. Still hopefully the action'll make that a non-factor.
VOLTRON Becomes Cost Efficient for New Regency - Aug 18, 2008 - 07:47am
I have a nagging suspicion that you are right, bluetiger. It already sounds and smells like shit like Muenster pointed out.
Never was a fan so if it is shit I won't care and if it isn't, well I'll have 2 hours of entertainment.
WB and DC Executives Talk Comic Properties - Aug 18, 2008 - 07:16am
Thanks for the props hanso. Should've forwarded the link to J
Also agree with your take on the JL. They can either branch them out into their own properties or even continue with a JL trilogy. They can rotate the JL line-up. There are plenty of options. Of the big seven the one that's not widely known is Martian Manhunter.
DK2280, you make a good point in that DC's character are more fantasy laden than Marvel's. But DC has a lot of great great characters. But like you said the problem will be adapting them to film in a way that keeps everybody interested. I think they can do it. Just make sure you hire good creative people the way Marvel has done so far.
Box Office: TROPIC THUNDER Knocks Down the Batman - Aug 18, 2008 - 06:44am
To the guy who keeps saying Indy won, Dude when people talk box office it means domestically unless otherwise noted. IM is beating Indy domestically. When we talk Titanic, TDK or whatever we are always referring to what it made in N.America. We rarely mention worldwide gross because frankly we don't give a fuck what the rest of the world thinks. Ok maybe we do give a fuck but we rarely mention it.
myklspader, I've no idea what you're talking about. TT was funny through out the entire film. And to compare TT to TDK is just , well I'll let you finish that sentence.
Iron Man Disses The DARK KNIGHT - Aug 17, 2008 - 05:49pm
Mudfeld,WHAT?What about Wayne's groupies? How are they any better? The journalist whore never gave up her principles, she used Starks the same way he did her. Just a one night affair. Wayne's whores aren't any deeper than a piece of paper. And Dawes? She isn't much different than Pepper, a feminist with a soft spot for Bruce. And how lame is Lucius? He's always building stuff for Batman to go out and beat up criminals and when it's time to use his new invention he turns all liberal about it. What's worse is that he still does it then acts indignant about it and says he quits until unless Wayne gets rid of it.The ending, how difficult is it to explain that D.A. was disfigured, probably tortured a bit and had to listen to his fiancee die. Then goes temporarily insane and takes the law into his own hands. Killing several people that were guilty and corrupt. Yet they find it more feasible to lie to the public, cover it up and make Batman the bad guy. PleaseThis is the stuff of poets who muddy their shallow waters to make them appear deeper than they are.TDK was good, just overrated.
Box Office: TROPIC THUNDER Knocks Down the Batman - Aug 17, 2008 - 02:50pm
Kudos and congrats to TDK. Now #2 all time domestically. Even at #2 for the weekend it had a very respectable showing and a nice average.Saw Tropic Thunder wednesday and again saturday and I laughed just as much the second time around. Loved the entire film and IMO is the best comedy of the year by far.Mirrors was just ok. Some of the eye candy is nice but was hoping for more. And Kiefer is Jack Bauer to me so it's hard to accept him in anything else. That's the risk of doing a character that long. The last couple of weeks has IM puttting more distance between it and Indy. So since HP is off this years schedule it looks like it may be TDK #1 and IM #2. I'll settle for that, I mean nobody expected that from IM to begin with.
Iron Man Disses The DARK KNIGHT - Aug 17, 2008 - 02:36pm
lol, sounds like my brother in law. He also likes to feed the fishes, that's what I call it since he never catches anything yet all the bait gets eaten.
Iron Man Disses The DARK KNIGHT - Aug 17, 2008 - 02:33pm
Predator, catch anything? Fishing wise I'm talking not v.d.'s
And hanso, I'm with you on the JL sentiment. I don't want to wait ten years for them to run a trilogy on all the members before uniting them.
Iron Man Disses The DARK KNIGHT - Aug 17, 2008 - 02:03pm
WOW, I didn't realize how big an asshole TLC is. No one disagree with this guy or else you're a dumb ass I guess its his point.IM baby, IRON MAN.Oh, and Nicholson, baby, NICHOLSON
Top Maniacal Rumors: Miller's Lantern, Mignola Hell and Super Paris - Aug 17, 2008 - 01:14pm
lol, almost. You sound like a big Magneto fan. I'll give you that he's definitely one of the top dogs but Dr. Doom, baby, that's the top dawg in the Marvel Universe when it comes to villains. He'e so hetero that he even travels back in time on a regular basis to get some poontang (along with some dark magic secrets).
Iron Man Disses The DARK KNIGHT - Aug 17, 2008 - 01:06pm
smegforbrain, I concur. But here is an article from Variety that seems to indicate that WB/DC have learned their lessonhttp://www.variety.com/article/VR1117990659.html?categoryid=13&cs=1Of course the prove has to be in the pudding.
Iron Man Disses The DARK KNIGHT - Aug 17, 2008 - 10:08am
Bottom line is that hopefully WB/DC will get their shit together. They have great, great characters and yet they seem to be paralyzed when it comes to branching them out on film and exploiting them. Hopefully TDK's succes will get them moving.
Marvel's characters are still my favorite overall and they have more to loose than WB. Their pockets just aren't as deep. So one disaster of a film could spell doom for their plans. That's a big reason of why I'm pulling for them so hard.
Top Maniacal Rumors: Miller's Lantern, Mignola Hell and Super Paris - Aug 17, 2008 - 09:58am
hanso, what you do is make it the Guy Gardner/GL. He's never been shown to be gay but he's been shown to be promiscuous enough and ready to try anything.almost, I guess you haven't heard. But when Erik was in a concentration camp he used to get "love" from all his homies :) He only took a wife to propagate the species.
TROPIC THUNDER - Aug 16, 2008 - 02:45pm
SPOILERS AHEAD SPOILERS AHEADWrenage, that's actually a pretty common thing with movies. Commercials often times have clips of deleted scenes. I especially remember that from King Kong. Also, you see Stiller realize the situation once he's taken out of the pond where he's being dipped, all the time calling for the director to cut. Then taken to the boss where he asks if there have been re-writes and finally when he's recognized as Simple Jack.
Iron Man Disses The DARK KNIGHT - Aug 16, 2008 - 02:37pm
Boy, I don't feel as lonely now as I used to with my opinion about IM and TDK.
No one can take away TDK's records and the HUGELY IMPRESSIVE performance at the b.o. But IM's suit works like a chastity belt that even Batman can't pop. So no rape there. Also, the competition factor was more in favor of TDK than IM.
By the way IM was just as well reviewed, well almost anyway. The tomatometer has them 94% and 93%. And Favreau didn't have anyone killed for sympathy.
I've made my feelings known about all the hype about Oscar and TDK. Take away one tragic death and it's a whole different story. I won't begrudge TDK if it does get an Oscar because worse films IMO have been nominated and/or won in the past. But the conversation is only due to Ledger's death.
Top Maniacal Rumors: Miller's Lantern, Mignola Hell and Super Paris - Aug 16, 2008 - 02:12pm
hanso, I'm disappointed in you. You have to use your imagination. You pu GL in the middle, Magneto behind him and Paris in front of GL and VOILA
I think I just made myself puke with that thought.
Iron Man Disses The DARK KNIGHT - Aug 15, 2008 - 08:22pm
That's some funny stuff. I love RDJ even more now.
You know he's just having fun. But he is right.
IronMan was better than TDK by a mile.
In a real fight between Batman and IronMan, Batman would get his ass kicked.
Put them out of costume and Wayne would kick Starks' ass.
