Update: DARK KNIGHT Grabs Third Record - Jul 21, 2008 - 06:07am
I think with the spirit and tone of these films, Black Mask would be perfect as a villain. His story lends itself to this movie series - anger over his deceitful parents, hatred for Bruce Wayne.
I don't really think we'll see any actual "comic book" villains like Clayface or Man-Bat. Even as great as TDK is, they changed the Joker so he wasn't a "comic book" villain. It's fine to do that, too, and (obviously) the result is great. I just don't see them bringing in something that so far off the charts like a Clayface.
One thing I think that could be lifted successfully from earlier films (no, not Arnie as Freeze) is the Batman/Catwoman relationship. Aside from the silly origin of Catwoman in "Batman Returns" (please, can SOMEONE read "Year One"?), the fact that the hero and villain are antagonistic while the alter egos start to get closer would translate well to Nolan's work.
All and all, TDK is pitch-perfect in delivery and by pretty much making it's budget back (worldwide) in the first weekend, it's a pretty safe bet there are higher powers than us discussing the same issues about #3....
Universal and Platt Planning WANTED 2 - Jul 15, 2008 - 06:39pm
Call me crazy, but why not consider doing something more like the Crow series? Same basic premise for each run, but different details, different players?
The Crow, BTW, could have been one of the most successful franchises if they'd stuck with the stories from the comics and, I don't know, had a budget.
Just a thought...
Something Viral Planned for DARK KNIGHT - Jul 07, 2008 - 05:58pm
For those who don't want to look it up, the two locales are:
a park in NYC across Lafeyette St from the Jacob Javits Federal Buiding (NY Home of the FBI, I believe)
and the other is a parking lot on the Chicago River in Chicago, next to a Potbelly's Sandwich Works on South Wacker Drive.
I don't know what they're doing, but I'll be glued to my monitor tomorrow night...
