Doctor Who Season Finale Debate (Article) - 5/20/2013 2:29:03 PM

The Valeyard is not a character I ever expected to see show up in Doctor Who again.  The entire premise was poorly executed in the Classic Era, and was a set-up of what was probably the dumbest storyline of the entire series- Trial of a Timelord.

Ten Characters We Want to See in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Article) - 5/17/2013 8:31:19 PM

Yes Rizing, the rights to The Punisher reverted back to Marvel several years ago.  The only rights which are not currently held by Marvel Studios are the X-Men and their associated characters, the Fantastic Four and their associated characters and Spider-Man with his cast of characters.

Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. Promo (Article) - 5/17/2013 1:34:41 PM

From what I've read about this show in other articles, Disney already regrets greenlighting this series.  Unless there's a strongly positive response from the viewers, it won't get a second season.

What boggles my mind is that this thing got made, yet X-Men continues to linger in development hell.

Agents of SHIELD has a great potential as a spin-off machine.  Cloak & Dagger, Heroes for Hire, and Jessica Jones would all make excellent series which wouldn't require large budgets.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - Trailer (Article) - 5/15/2013 8:20:52 PM

Considering the weird advanced/alien tech shown to be on the arm of our would-be Luke Cage towards the end of the trailer, it doesn't seem likely it's him.  While it makes sense for other denizens of the Marvel Universe to encounter the Agents of SHIELD, for them to do so in the pilot isn't very likely.  The focus of the story needs to be introducing our cast, not distracting us with cameos.  They'll save that sort of thing for future episodes.

The Summer of '83: Blue Thunder (Article) - 5/13/2013 3:06:11 PM

I first saw Blue Thunder when it was on the now defunct premium cable channel View at my best friend's house.  He'd told me about it many times, but it never seemed to be on when his parents weren't at home so I could watch it.  After months of anticipation, the planets alligned and I got to see the awesomeness that was Blue Thunder.  It was everything I thought it would be and more.  Not only a cool helicopter with lots of action, but a hot naked chick as well.  Seeing that beautiful machine blown to bits on the railroad broke my heart.

I also loved the TV show when it came out, and was saddened when it was cancelled.  In the wake of Blue Thunder, the Big Three networks each came out with a helicopter based program.  NBC had Riptide, CBS had Airwolf and ABC had the real deal of Blue Thunder.  Between the three of them, I liked Blue Thunder the best, which of course meant that it was immediately cancelled.

Doctor Who fans should note that stock footage from the film was used in the 2005 episode Dalek in which the helicopter was refered to as Bad Wolf One.

Mania Casts Doctor Strange (Article) - 5/6/2013 2:39:38 PM

David Tennant is the guy I'm going to stick with as Doctor Strange.

Lack of name recognition doesn't seem to be a priority for Marvel Studios, or pose a problem at the box office.  Nobody knew who Chris Hemsworth was when they cast him as Thor.  They made up for his status as an unknown by surrounding him with big name actors like Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins.  The same would work for Tennant.  Give him an A-list actor to face-off against, and it's all good.

Doctor Who Preview: Nightmare in Silver (Article) - 5/5/2013 4:16:51 PM

At this point, I don't think Doctor Who is trying to differentiate between Mondas Cybermen, Tellos Cybermen and Cybus Industries Cybermen.  The history of the species has always been a convoluted mess that mostly gets glossed over or ignored.

Doctor Strange in 2016 (Article) - 5/5/2013 2:33:00 PM

Whoever ultimately gets the role of Doctor Strange isn't going to be an A-list celebrity.  Marvel Studios prefers to spend their money on the visual FX rather than actors.  This means that folks like Johnny Depp and Gary Oldman are just not going to happen.

David Tennant

He's got that quirky, otherworldly look that works for roles like Doctor Strange.  He's a great actor as well.  I do feel however that if he were to get the role of Sorcerer Supreme, they'd have to make the character British.  I've heard David try an American accent, and he just can't pull it off convincingly.  Besides, aren't all wizards supposed to have an english accent anyway?  From the perspective of Marvel Studios, they would also like Tennant because they can get him cheap.

As a side note, I discovered yesterday that Ghost Rider has been returned to Marvel Studios somehow.  All of Marvel's horror characters are now back in the stable.  With Doctor Strange leading the way, could the Midnight Sons be somewhere down the line?
