“The drama is described as an action-packed buddy cop show set in the near future, when all LAPD officers are partnered with highly evolved humanlike androids. Ealy will play Dorian, the android partner of LAPD officer John Kennex who understands humanity more than his human counterpart”. The Hollywood Reporter

The series will be helmed by J.J. Abrams (Star Wars, Star Trek) and penned by J.H. Wyman (Fringe). The series will be produced by Bad Robot and Warner Brothers. The pilot to be directed by Brad Anderson (The Machinist).

The pilot nor the series have a release or production date.

Never even heard about this idea in development.

Of course we can immediately say this idea has been done several times before. Future Cop starring Ernest Borgnine partnered with an android from the late 70s is one. The other is Mann and Machine where actress Yancy Butler plays the beautiful android partner to a human man.

You can say this but you have to remind yourself of the most important factor of all: it's all in the execution. The way an idea is done will determine its quality. You could take GoT and do it on the cheap with mediocre actors and it wouldn't work but the execution is all the difference.

I'll see how this goes.

Agreed Monkey - This is a concept that is as old as the hills, but I have confidence that with JJ Abrams behind it, the execution of this show will be fantastic.

Looking forward to this...  the concept reminds me of the old Asimov Daneel Olivaw stories

Has potential. Hopefully it's more than a buddy-cop show with androids.

@Butchman Thats what I though of instantly when I read the title.  I loved the old Asimov books so i'll give this a whirl.  Hope its good.  Because as much as I enjoy reading the Asimov novels they will never make good movies.

It's I, Robot for the small screen!!

The Penny Arcade chaps flirted with a comic called "Automata" that sounds along these lines. Like peeps have said, Asimov inspires all automaton-based productions, so fingers-crossed this is done well.
