Jubilee joined the X-Men as something of a '90s equivalent of Kitty Pryde: some new blood needed to be injected into the team and it arrived in the form of the plasma-creating mutant teenager known as Jubilation Lee, also known as Jubilee.
Created by Chris Claremont and Marc Silvestri, Jubilee made her debut in Uncanny X-Men #244 (1989). The free-spirited Jubilee was a teenage runaway who lived at a Beverly Hills mall until she met up with some members of the X-Men and snuck through a portal back to their headquarters, eventually joining the team. She battled evil both with the X-Men and Generation X, a team of young mutants who were being trained in the use of their powers at Professor X's school for gifted youngsters, until M-Day when she and several million other mutants lost their powers.
Jubilation Lee spent most of her teenage life rollerblading at the mall until she ran into trouble with mall security. Facing juvenile detention, her powers manifested as she panicked and she managed to get away. When her parents were murdered by hitmen, she ran away and lived in the mall until joining the X-Men.
Jubilee served with the X-Men during the time the team was presumed dead and operating out of a secret Australian headquarters. When the team resurfaced and reunited with old members to form a much larger version of the X-Men, Jubilee became a founding member of Generation X, the next generation of students at Professor X's school. Under the Professor's guidance, she further learned to control her powers.
When Generation X disbanded, Jubilee joined Banshee's paramilitary-style X-Corps until that team split up as well. She eventually re-joined the X-Men and worked at the school as a student counselor.
Jubilee was among the millions of mutants who lost their powers during the event known as M-Day, when the Scarlet Witch used her reality-manipulating abilities to strip mutantkind of their gifts. She got a job working at a halfway house for depowered mutants and eventually ended up as a member of the latest incarnation of the New Warriors, utilizing high-tech weaponry that granted her superhuman strength, flight, and limited invulnerability. The team eventually disbanded but Jubilee retained her power suit should the need ever arise for her to use it.
Prior to being depowered, Jubilee had the ability to create multi-colored globules of plasma which could be used to simply sparkle and light up a room or as a destructive force. She could also absorb energy back into herself.
While operating as a member of the New Warriors, Jubilee utilized a power suit that granted her above-average strength and limited invulnerability as well as flight.
