AS ABOVE, SO BELOW - Trailer

The Descent, again?

Legendary Pictures and Universal Studios have released a new trailer for their psychological thriller AS ABOVE, SO BELOW. It reminds me a lot of The Descent. The claustrophobia horror of The Descent was almost too much to bare. Now add in ghosts, visions, and even damnation? It looks like good summer fun that will haunt you in your sleep. Check out the poster below as well.

Synopsis: Miles of twisting catacombs lie beneath the streets of Paris, the eternal home to countless souls.  When a team of explorers ventures into the uncharted maze of bones, they uncover the dark secret that lies within this city of the dead.  A journey into madness and terror, AS ABOVE, SO BELOW reaches deep into the human psyche to reveal the personal demons that come back to haunt us all.

AS ABOVE, SO BELOW features Perdita Weeks, Ben Feldman, Edwin Hodge and is directed by John Erick Dowdle.

AS ABOVE, SO BELOW arrives in theaters August 15, 2014.

Of course, the black guy dies first... They even show it in the trailer!

Is this a comedy or horror movie?

Interesting ideas, sadly I fear it will be formulaic with jump scares and overly rely on the shakey cam.

By that I mean, overly rely on the shakey cam to create the sense of unease in the audience (due to motion sickness), rather than putting effort into other areas that can help to build mood, tone, etc. Hard to get a sense of atmosphere from a trailer too, so easy to create trailers that in no way reflect the atmosphere and tone of the film itself.
