 I've heard good things about John Carter...may have to break down and rent it.  Never saw Zathura either, but one whose opinions on movies I trust implicitly said it was very good.  Didn't realize that was a Favreau movie.

I like the choice and I believe a director like JJA will result in a movie without annoying characters like Jar Jar Binks and a young Anakin Skywalker.

 Dude....you can go down in history as either an Epic Fail or as one of the greatest ever....don't screw up...I think it's good news still...

Wiseguy 1/25/2013 4:50:45 AM

I assume that this means a new director for any Star Trek sequels.

Iridan 1/25/2013 5:08:27 AM

Good. Give him SW and keep him away from ST.

Let's also get new writers for Star Trek....you know, people who actually knew what Star Trek was like and about, instead of this trio of idiots - including Jar Jar Abrams. Go screw up Star Wars JJ, I won't be following going to see it anyways. Star Wars needs to die out for a while anyways, it's far too saturated into the public consciousness.

Fuck yeah! This is awesome news. it was no secret Abrams was more of a Star Wars kid growing up than Star Trek. This is definitely good for him.

I'm more than happy on seeing this. I love the majority of stuff Bad Robot has done. Alias, Fringe, Lost, Person of Interest. Super 8, Cloverfield, Mission Impossible movies, etc...

And best of all. Loved the Star Trek reboot!

I've been reading up more on this and it looks like it was Mr Spielberg himself who convinced Kathy Kennedy on pursuing Abrams.

@wise

I was also hoping for Stanton, being a Disney alumni but I'm thinking Disney are going more for a bigger name to sell this. I liked Stanton's take on John Carter as well but if you have a tagline for the new Star Wars movie "from the man who directed John Carter" vs "from the man who brough you Star Trek 2.0, Lost, Aiias and Super 8" I think Abrams would sell more.

I did see Super 8 and enjoyed it.  It's never going to be in my top 10 films list, but I've seen far worse.  And it was original material so Abrams didn't have to worry about it being compared to prior incarnations so he could do what he liked.

Zillaman, if you don't know what I didn't like about Abrams' ST yet then I'm not going to educate you.  Just read my comments about it on just about any old article on the topic on this site and you'll know.

Wiseguy 1/25/2013 5:40:06 AM

True ElBaz but the fact is that SW doesn't need selling.
