Star Wars Underworld Happening?

SHIELD might pave the way

It seems that Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. may pave the way for the Star Wars TV series that has been in development hell for years. Disney’s new process is to keep projects viable between films. Hence we now Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. With a new Star Wars film on its way (2015) it looks as if the mouse may dust off those Star Wars TV scripts that have been sitting around for years. Initially the problem with producing the TV series was that George Lucas said it was too expensive (5 million an episode). Now that might not be as much of an issue with Disney Dollars funding the series. The site Blue Sky Disney had this to report:

“From what I hear behind-the-scenes, Bothans are telling me that this is a good possibility. Although, it might not be the dark brooding adventure that was described. There is talk going on, but nothing definite yet as to what a new series could entail.  In fact, it may not even happen in the time it was originally set.  Again, preliminary talks are still going on so many things could change but right now there's a debate as to whether or not a television show would take place in between the Prequel Trilogy and the Original Trilogy, or should they go forward with a series that's between the Original Trilogy and the Sequel Trilogy.  This way they could play on the new mythos this new trilogy is creating”.

Obviously, this is nothing official. It looks as if they are still trying to figure what era this series should take place in. With the new animated series “Rebels” arriving in the fall of 2014 taking place between Episodes III and IV, it us unlikely we would see another TV series take place then. What would be fascinating is to see a TV series that would deal with the events post Return of the Jedi. We have a thirty year gap between Episode VI and Episode VII

Perhaps it might just be better to let this TV series go and concentrate on the films for now.

Many Bothans died to get us this information......or was that Manny Both Hands, the mob snitch?

I would love a SW TV series if Disney has the time, talent (in front and behind cameras), and money to do it. I hope whatever time they set it in they have Jedis. For me, besides the great adventure, aliens, and FX the whole SW universe revolves in some way around the Force.

Getting deeper into the Jedi mythos would be awesome. Bring in some holocrons with ancients secrets on both Jedi and Sith maybe. There is so much that can be done... A group of Jedi trying to escape and survive the Sith Order 66 on a small, hidden world. I don't care. Just give it to me.

If it's set in between Episode III & IV you could definitely have Vader show up maybe towards the end of the series to take on the main character(s).

Right, but if Rebels is set between 3 and 4, it would be pointless to set this one during the same time period.

It would be cool to have a show about the past.  How the Jedi were formed etc...

The collapse of the Empire would be a great idea, something that VAST will take decades to dismantle, just because the Emporer is dead doesn't mean the Empire is...

Maybe we ARE going to get that Boba Fett TV series, but I doubt it...

The Empire is so huge, that the events of RotJ might just be another thing that happened in a small corner of a vast universe.

There are going to be entire sectors, let alone planets that will want to retain what is left of the Empire and will fight on...

I wouldnt mind if it just had some old school special effects..you dont need to blow millions on digital effects...as long as the storys are good. A couple  of Sabers..some blasters maybe a ship or two..and just good old fashioned green screen stunt work..and i'd be happy. I'm sure it can be done cheaply but with good quality at the same time.

The "Star Wars Dark Times" comic series from Dark Horse is set between Eps III & IV, and it's really cool - looking at the consolidation of the Empire, Vader growing into his new role, and the exploits of a small handful of Jedi trying to survive on the fringes of society - hiding out in a smuggler crew, settling on a small backwater, or even running a casino in the latest issues!

It's a great look at how the new Empire has changed things for the Jedi, hopefully Rebels will look at the political/military side of things, where there is more subversiveness and covert resistance prior to the full-blown rebellion we see in the original trilogy. I was also keen for a "Star Wars Underworld" type show, which focussed on the underbelly of Coruscant - the crime lords and bounty hunters, perhaps a Jedi or two hiding out - the profiteering and less noble rebellions taking place right under the Empire's nose - that would have been really cool.

I was actually hoping that the new animated series would be set between episodes VI and VII, and build on the new mythology for he future films, leaving the "Dark Times" clear for the long-promised live action series. Sadly it seems it was not to be, but what we get could be even better :)

I say stick with the original time

@ SmokingFrog77

I always like the idea of the 'deadwood in space', set in the backwoods of the empire...

Would love to see them take something like the X-Wing series of books and make a show out of that era taking down the Empire
