Accessory Mania

With the main holidays just around the corner, mainly the Mecca named Christmas, it seems the release of videogames has died for the next little while. It also seems worse than what happens during the summer, but that is just a personal observation. There are plenty of games out there to buy though, so look no further than the previous Countdowns for suggestions, and a local retail store. Enough stalling though, it is on with the show.

Brave: The Search for Spirit Dancer (PS2) – A slightly older game from Japan, released there last year, the game is based on the mythology of the Native Americans. You embark on an epic journey to save your tribe, after the evil Wendigo attack it. At least you are the greatest Shaman to have lived, so now you can dance your way to victory in a non DDR game.

Rapala Trophies (X-Box 360) – Who likes fishing games? Well... I personally do. There was something about them on the SNES that made them extra exciting, but now I hardly have time to play them. Indeed this game was released on the Wii a few weeks ago, and I would probably recommend it on that system just to play the game a little differently.

Bubble Bobble Evolution (PSP) – While it seemed to take forever to port, finally the Bubble Bobble series is on your PSP handheld. This one is quite different from the DS version since it sports proper 3D graphics. It looks interesting, and even makes me want to play it. It may just be the perfect game for people who remember the good old days of videogames.

Alexey's Dwice (PC) – A puzzle game forces you to break ice blocks to help prevent an avalanche from crushing the homes at the base of the mountain. Indeed it does sound like something you will found on NewGrounds, but there are plenty of levels to play. It is also from a creator of Tetris, so hopefully it is just as addicting.

PlayStation 2 GameFX Controller FPS keyboard (PS2) – While this has concept has been implemented a few times before, with a USB mouse being added to the PS2, this one seems to be fairly nice. At times I do prefer the mouse to controllers for some first person shooters, mainly so that I can zoom in just by using the wheel. Anyways, if you have found a few shooters that you enjoy on the PS2, this one should allow you to maximize the amount of fun that you will have.

PS2 Guitar Mania Amplifier (PS2) – Do you want to take your Guitar Hero experience to the next level? This will be the product to use, since it will allow you to hear the sound of the game through the box. Now you can put your foot up on the amplifier and be a true Rockstar.

Wii Controller Skins (Wii) – Also designed for those whom are having problems holding onto their Wii-Motes, you can now make your controllers look extra spiffy. I still recommend using the safety band that they include with the Wii-motes in the first place.

Wii Remote Extension Cable (Wii) – If the cord was not long enough all ready, well here is your chance to increase the length. Worry not, as it does not come in the form of a pill or cream. I have a slightly fear that the Wii-mote/chuck’s cord will hit the ground when the kids are playing boxing, since they are up and moving around. Oh well, there will always be an accessory to do something that the developers of the system did not think of.

Wii Remote Bar (Wii) - Finally someone was able to finish this, which seemed to be a little bit of an oversight by Nintendo. The remote bar included with the Wii uses a cord that borrows power from the system, though by using this product you will be able to place this bar anywhere. I am still a little shocked to find out that the bar was only used to allow the Wii-mote to pick up the screen. I was a little more shocked to find out you can get the same affect from lighting candles. Anyway, the bar should last upwards of 50 hours on a single battery, which is perfect for your wireless adventure. Now they only need to figure out a wireless power cord for the systems that is not a battery.

Alas there were not enough games to name a Game of the Week, though there were plenty of accessories. If I were to name an accessory of the week, I would give the node to the Wii remote bar. Moving on, recently in the news I read about a person who got drunk, murdered a homeless person, and then blamed the WWE videogames. I think it is pretty pathetic to blame videogames for people killing others, since we have a history of books that have described it. I also think that if you are going to blame videogames, you might as well blame music for murders as well. You have plenty of rap music that can have lyrics about killing people, you have the heartbreak songs that could depress people, and finally you have the Paris Hilton album that gives you all the motivation you need. All and all, this is Captain Gordon signing off.
