In a press release dated today, video game developer/distributor Activision announced that it has secured an agreement to make and release a game based on the SPIDER-MAN 3 movie, slated for release in May 2007. While that may be some distance away in the future, the move isn't too early for Activision to draw attention to its forthcoming game based on SPIDER-MAN 2, out next month.
Activision didn't say what game consoles its SPIDER-MAN 3 game would be for, which makes sense; in the video game business, technology moves quickly and more than likely there will be new consoles from Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo out before '07 arrives.
The company also said that it is in development on a new SPIDER-MAN game that is based on the Marvel Comics continuity instead of the movies. That leaves the door wide open for Spidey to face many more of his rogues gallery of villains, such as Venom, Mysterio, The Vulture, Kraven the Hunter and Carnage, in the new SPIDER-MAN game. The presently untitled new SPIDER-MAN game will be released sometime in 2005.
