Activision announced today that it has acquired the rights to develop and market videogames based on Steven Spielberg's new sci-fi film, MINORITY REPORT.
Starring Tom Cruise, MINORITY REPORT is a futuristic sci-fic thriller based on a short story by Phillip K. Dick. Dick is better known for his stories that inspired the movies BLADE RUNNER and TOTAL RECALL.
Activision's deal allows the company to release PLAYSTATION 2, GAMECUBE, XBOX, GAME BOY ADVANCE and PC titles based on the game for the next five years. The games will be very similar to the movie in both events and characters portrayed.
"MINORITY REPORT lends itself well to a wide variety of gameplay elements with intense futuristic storylines and gripping action-packed sequences," says Ron Doornink, president and COO, Activision, Inc. "We are very excited to work with Steven Spielberg, Fox Interactive, and DreamWorks Pictures on what is expected to be one of the most anticipated films of 2002."
MINORITY REPORT will hit theaters in summer of 2002, no release date was announced for the games.
