HOUSTON, April 14, 2005—ADV Films, the number one producer-distributor of anime in North America, has acquired the rights to Yugo the Negotiator, a critically-acclaimed anime series. ADV will be releasing the home video DVD in four volumes beginning July 2005, as well as broadcasting the series via the Anime NetworkTM.
Yugo the Negotiator is an anime tour of the world’s hot spots, where terrorism is hatched and kidnappings are commonplace. Our hero is not a dashing spy or unstoppable soldier, but a globe-trotting negotiator whose mastery of multiple languages, psychology, and iron will set him apart from all others in his trade. Yugo the Negotiator strives for a degree of realism rare in anime.
“Yugo the Negotiator demonstrates just how rich and diverse anime truly is,” said ADV Founder and CEO John Ledford. “Some may think anime is nothing but giant robots and sexy schoolgirls, but anime can grapple with real world issues as ably as any other medium.”
Ledford continued, “Yugo is an ambitious project, artistically as well as thematically, and we’re very proud to be associated with it.”
About Yugo the Negotiator
Based upon the original manga by Shinji Makari and Shuu Akana, Yugo the Negotiator breaks into a fresh new genre of anime by featuring a highly realistic storyline and setting. Sometimes, a strong wit and a sharp tongue are the deadliest weapons a soldier can wield.
A hostage has been taken in Pakistan; the chances of his survival are slim to none. With keen intellect, quick wits and indomitable willpower, Yugo Beppu has earned a reputation as the world’s leading private negotiator. When the negotiations in Pakistan break down, Yugo is called to the scene by the hostage’s beautiful daughter to deal with a fierce anti-government faction. Walking a dangerous line between the powerful military and ruthless guerrillas, it will take more than words for Yugo to survive in the blazing desert.
