Affleck to Direct Justice League?

The one time blind superhero has been approached

Warner Bros. is apparently moving fast after Marvel and Disney’s announcement that Joss Whedon will be helming The Avengers sequel. According to Variety, Warner Bros. has approached actor/director Ben Affleck to discuss whether or not he would be willing to direct the Justice League movie.
This isn’t the first time that the actor/director has been approached to direct a superhero film, having been an earlier candidate to direct the upcoming Superman reboot, Man of Steel, before Warner Bros. decided to hire Zack Snyder. Following the success of Affleck’s The Town, another film under the Warner Bros. umbrella (which ironically starred The Avengers’ Jeremy Renner), the director has proven himself both in front and behind the camera as being able to deliver a commercially viable and critically acclaimed film. Affleck is apparently the only individual who has been sent Will Beall’s script for the Justice League, and according to sources of Variety’s Jeff Sneider and Justin Kroll, the studio is preparing to meet with the director in within a few days.
Variety also hints at reports that the director may also end up starring in the film, possibly donning a superhero suit yet again after starring in 2003′s Daredevil. If you really want to count his superhero roles, you could even include his performance in Hollywoodland as George Reeves, the actor who portrayed Superman in the 1950s television series.
Much like the development of The Avengers, fans around the world will be paying very close attention to this project over the course of 2012. The film is essentially DC’s response to Marvel’s The Avengers, bringing together a team of DC Comics’ most popular superheroes, including Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and The Flash.

At the rate that the production is currently going, it’s unlikely that we’ll be seeing this characters together on the big screen before 2015. However, all goes as planned, Warner Bros. may have a Justice League film ready by the time Marvel wraps up it’s second phase of storytelling in their cinematic universe.

Thanks to bobjohnson221 for the submission.

Okay, on one hand, I think Affleck is a much better director than he is an actor.  His films almost have a Clint Eastwood-directed quality to them - borderline artsy.  However, 1.) I think this project is WAY too big for him, and 2.) Ang Lee's "Hulk" showed us what can happen when an artsy film maker takes on superheroes.  Yeah, I'm a hater of Lee's "Hulk".  I make no apologies.

 Interesting! I like Ben Affleck!

they should have the justice league fight darkside in the movie.

If the JLA movie uses Darkseid, I make these two predictions:

1.) Marvel fans would scream rip-off because the Marvel movies are obviously setting up to use Thanos

2.) Your average movie goer will be saying, "Cool! The guy from the end of The Avengers!"

JLA vs. Darkseid would be awesome if done right though, no doubt about it.

SmokingFrog77 8/8/2012 10:59:27 PM

Yeah, Darkseid is the natural villain for any JLA movie. But yes, Marvel beat DC to the punch by already bringing their own rip-off version of him into the Avengers franchise. Yes, Thanos was originally more inspired by Metron, but was later modelled more on Darkseid after the artist was told "If you're going to rip off the New Gods, at least rip off the coolest one!"

Would be awesome if done right. Affleck is a complete WTF choice and I have no idea if it's a good or bad one. If he were to star in it I would suggest he play Booster Gold.

Ya wtf is right. This is pretty left field, but Ben would be a fool to turn this down. I could see him as the Green Lantern actually. As I always said Ryan Reynolds should have been saved to play the Flash damnit.

Btw Where is WISH at?? Wheres my latest Deadpool update bro?? Haha

See, we have a director (sort of ), that's progress, right ?  Now all we need is actors and a script then Marvel studios will already have dominated the box office.

return comment: "what are you, a marvel employee or something" ?

The truth hurts doesn't it ?

Well, I see that Warner Bros is going with the "used to be an actor but better as a director" choice, just like Marvel did with Favreau and Brannagh. I like Affleck and he is a good director. It might work.

If i ran WB, i would go: Man of Steele (2013) , green lantern 2 and wonder woman (2014) , flash (2015). Bring them all together and introduce The new Batman in Justice Leaugue (2016). The JL movie can also serve as the jumping off point for the new Batman films

@Kennynine Nice!
