almostunbiased, not sure about in the comics, but I've seen it established on Lois & Clark TV series that Clark shaves uses his heat vision reflected off a mirror.  Yes, a little lame, but it has been explained before.  It's a pretty minor complaint.

So many extreme opinions here, seems like people feel like they have to go all the way to one wall or the other. Ang Lee's Hulk had a lot of problems, but I see no need to "hate" it. And if "artsy" film directors can't do superhero movies, how do you explain Branagh's sucess with Thor?
And along the same lines I find it just  goofy to call Ben Affleck "The worst actor in the world". He's never gonna win an Oscar but he's good within his niche. He gave a great performance in Hollywoodland and anyone who's seen the directors cut of Daredevil knows the film, although again NEITHER the "best" or "worst" film of all time, is still better than it frequently gets credit for. Whether he's the right director for a JLA movie is a big question, but as been said who here would have thought of Favreau or Branagh, much much less thought of Robert Downey Jr. to play Iron Man? Anyway I think WB's jumping the gun hugely here. There's YEARS of groundwork that needs to be laid before a JLA movie will be successful, much less the juggernaut Avengers was.

Agree doublec. The guy has proven himself a good director and that's first and foremost after that it's almost always a gamble to a degree when you first tackle a new genre.

I don't think the Nolan comparisons apply. JLA is obviously full of fantasy and sci/fi so all that "reality" crap is out the window. Now that gritty and dark part can definitely work especially with Darkseid.

But if it was me I wouldn't use Darkseid, save him for Superman just to avoid the Avengers comparison. I say they go a for an earthly threat like OMACs, Atlantis rising up against terra firma or Dr Hugo creating Monster Men like he did in that mini series.

Wiseguy 8/9/2012 10:29:53 AM

I still think they should've went with my original thought if they didn't plan on solo films all around, a World's Finest film first and use that as a vehicle to intro WW and the rest.

WB needs to make sure not to rush this.

I would go with Moid: Master of Disguise as the villain for the first movie. Darkseid for the sequel.

According to blastr, this rumor is completely false.  Warner simply had a meeting with Affleck, nothing more.

shac2846 8/9/2012 12:10:36 PM

That's what I heard. It was only a meeting. But I think Affleck as a director for this is promising. He's a big comic fan also, how do you think he got involved with Kevin Smith?

zipahead 8/9/2012 2:44:32 PM

They should get Bruce Tim. he gets it.

Ben Affleck...Hmmmm... Yeah, I'm puzzled by this choice as well. If anything, this is just WB and DC trying their best to keep people's attention away from the release of The Avengers dvd in September... Yeah, like THAT could ever happen!

I agree that this movie will never see the light of day. This is one of those "I'll believe it when I'm sitting in my chair with my movie ticket and popcorn in hand." sort of things. 2015 might even be pushing it a bit...for a decent movie that is. DC should really reboot the Batman franchise BEFORE this movie gets filmed. It's sort of hard to kill off Batman (What?!? If you haven't seen it yet then you probably weren't going to anyway) and then bring him back to life to have him star in a team movie. Then again, this is DC and WB we're talking about here.

Darkseid is the obvious choice for a villain. I swear if Lex Luthor is the main villain I will slap Ben Affleck upside the head.

I have zero faith that the first produced Justice League movie will be any good (no matter how bad I want it to be awesome sauce).  Can't say I'm a fan of Affleck being the director for this, but I'm sure they could do a lot worse. (cough, cough, Shumaker, cough, cough)

Until there are official announcements and actual set photos, I won't absolutely believe that this film is actually going to be made.

I just hope that JL doesn't go up against Avengers 2 (or 3 or 4) in the same summer.  Who else is sick of the "Marvel rules" no, "DC rules" fanboy jibbah-jabbah.  (Shout out to Mr T!)  :)
