Leave it to Namco Bandai Games to pick up another hot anime property to turn into a trailblazing action game. During its recent Gamers' Day event in San Francisco at the Supperclub, the company debuted a short but appetizing trailer for the forthcoming game based on the Afro Samurai anime property. The game should feature a heavy dose of sword action, along with plenty of hip-hop attitude. The five-part anime series, now available on DVD in a "director's cut" package, features the voice of Samuel L. Jackson as both the Samurai and his spirited partner, on a vengeful quest to seek out the man who murdered his father. Life isn't easy for the Samurai. Along with a mighty sword, he also wields the "Number 2" headband, making him the second toughest man in the land. This brings plenty of competitors eager to take the headband, leading to spectacular battles of all kinds. The game should have this same kind of spirit, from the brief snippets featured in the short but sweet trailer. Look for Afro to have lots of acrobatics and plenty of swordplay on hand when the game makes it debut in 2008. It may also feature numerous voice talents from the show (including Jackson and Ron Perlman), as well as a full-blown hip-hop soundtrack. Namco even had a rap group perform at the event, grooving along to a piece of animation from the Afro Samurai movie.
