Will Smith, Jaden Smith and M. Night Shyamalan didn't show up at Comic-Con, but that didn't stop their new movie After Earth from making an appearance. The panel included producers and writers of the film talking about how the film came to fruition and a more in-depth description of the synopsis.
Here's the official synopsis for After Earth:
In After Earth, one thousand years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape from Earth, Nova Prime has become mankind’s new home. Legendary General Cypher Raige (played by Will Smith) returns from an extended tour of duty to his estranged family, ready to be a father to his 13-year-old son, Kitai (played by Jaden Smith). When an asteroid storm damages Cypher and Kitai’s craft, they crash-land on a now unfamiliar and dangerous Earth. As his father lies dying in the cockpit, Kitai must trek across the hostile terrain to recover their rescue beacon. His whole life, Kitai has wanted nothing more than to be a soldier like his father. Today, he gets his chance.
After Earth arrives in theaters June 7, 2013. Check out the teaser and Comic-Con clip below.
This is a very ambiguous viral teaser. The new Robocop just came out with one but after seeing the original I can put what it was telling me in perspective. This one...I don't know what they are trying to tell me. I do like the idea of this movie and am looking forward to seeing some actual footage in a trailer.
One thing I am hoping for is that they make the future society very different from our own. Afterall, it is supposed to be 1000 years from now. Human relations would naturally be the same but I don't want the far future to look like Bladerunner and people flying around in spaceships Star Wars style. Be innovative.
They're actually going to put children in a Shyamalan movie after Avatar? Clearly the man has a talented eye, but no soul. I can't believe that he still gets to direct movies with budgets big enough to overpay Will Smith. Plus, from the synopsis, it looks like it will be an 86 minute death scene for Smith to grimace his way through and at the end, he probably won't even die. Here's a tip, if you want to do something with your son, try playing catch, not subjecting moviegoers to your $150 million father/son bonding experience.
cool....an action star who may die waiting for his kid to save the day! I'm there....I love nearly all Smiths movies!
