This weeks mini reviews – pt. 2
My mission: To save the world from buying and reading worthless comics.
My weapon: Mini reviews.
In order to review as many books as possible I’ll keep putting out these short reviews about the weeks latest books. You’ll read what I think, why I think it and a letter grade for each.
Now, onward and upward…
Incredible Hulk #108 – Marvel – F
Are you kidding me? What a steamer! After last month’s excellent behind the scenes look at World War Hulk this issue transitions to a worthless Rick Jones and Miek character shot, completely ruining the flow of the story. The dual thought dialog of Superman Batman is used here, and to worse effect, if that is possible. Total tripe. Avoid at all costs.
The Walking Dead #39 – Image – A-
Finally, finally something actually happens. If you’re a fan of the walking dead you’ll know that several plotlines have been building for a very long time. One of them gets some payoff this issue and a few others are moved along at a much brisker pace than the last few plodding installments. Here’s hoping this is the direction going forward.
Invincible – Image – A
Another Robert Kirkman written book, another big turn around. I have to be honest, my interest in Invincible has been failing as of late, but with this latest issue I’m back on the Kirkman band wagon and ready for more. The big baddies make their presence known again in a major way and set up huge doings for the near future. Kirkman is a big fan of numbers, so expect the payoffs to continue until #50 arrives early next year.
Countdown #40 – DC – D
Nothing happens… Again. This is going nowhere very quickly. I am earnestly hoping that we will see an opposite 52; a slow start with good ending.
Mighty Avengers #4 – Marvel – C
An F for story as, in a move that seems to be a running theme throughout the industry, nothing happens, but an A for the coolest fight scene I’ve seen in a long time. Ares just unloads on a fleet of Iron Man armor in ways that only a God of War could.
