After a few months in the prepping stages, Warner Bros. Pictures has given the go-ahead to movie forward with a live-action Akira film. Variety reports that TRON: Legacy star Garrett Hedlund seems to be the one who could be playing Kaneda in this latest adaptation of Katsuhiro Otomo's classic manga. Jaume Collet-Serra (Unknown) will be directing, based on a screenplay by Mark Fergus, Hawk Ostby, Gary Whitta and Steve Kloves. The production budget is set at around $90 million and could begin shooting by February.
Plot Concept: "Akira" is based on anime artist Katsuhiro Otomo's six-volume graphic novel masterwork. The film is said to take place in "New Manhattan," a metropolis that was rebuilt after being destroyed 31 years ago. The famous motorcycle will also definitely be a part of the film.

Bring it on, I have no special attachment to the manga or the anime so you won't be hearing any complaints from me.
Never really liked the anime - boring IMO. Might check out a live version on netflix though.
Dying to see a live action version. Hope they dont screw it up.... but it sounds like its in the wrong hands
I hope this is good...I wonder if there will be any asian folks cast or if they are going to completely Americanize it...I mean Garrett Hedlund starring as "Kaneda"??? That doesn't even sound right lol...
A white guy name Kaneda? Sweet jebus hollywood, just put some freakin asians in this movie the way it should be. GAWD.

Americanized version of Maga is just crap.
No doubt the bike will be given the hollywood Lawmaster treatment to save on the budget.
